Logan POV
I was sitting there reading the paper when there was a knock on my dorm door. I got up and went to answer it. Rory. My Ace. "Well this is a surprise."
"Can I come in?" Rory asks.
I nod. "Sure." She walks in and I shut the door. "You want to sit down?" I ask.
"Nope. Got to stay vertical." She says. Vertical? I stare at here for a minute. "What?" She asks.
"You have, like, an octagon imprinted on your face." I say.
"I can't do this anymore Logan." She says.
Been sittin' here tippin' back Crown straight
Workin' up the nerve and the words to say
To turn those eyes and that smile my way
No time to waste
'Cause you showed up and all eyes on you
Shinin' like a diamond in a neon room
Every guy here wants to make a move
I better make a move
What? What can't she do anymore? "Do what?" I ask.
"This casual dating thing. I don't like it. It's not who I am and I don't want to make it who I am." She said.
Where was this coming from? I thought everything was going fine. Okay…maybe things haven't been perfect. "Whoa, hold on here. Where's this coming from?" I asked her.
"It's coming from me. The ravishing creature standing in front of you." She said. Ravishing was right. She was dressed simple but she looked amazing.
"We talked about this." I said. What was going on? I didn't want to stop seeing her.
"I know."
"I didn't make you do this." I said. I was starting to get a little mad. Was she blaming this on me? She was the one that initiated everything. I was perfectly fine with the way things were going, with us just being friends. Okay…that was a lie. For weeks I had been dreaming about what it would be like to kiss her.
"I know. I'm not accusing you of anything. This isn't your fault." She said.
Then she'd kissed me at her grandparents wedding and said that she just had to know what it would be like. Then stupid Robert had to ask her to Finn's birthday. Why hadn't I just asked her instead of asking Whitney. Then I had to be an ass that night. "I don't understand. I thought everything was going so well." I said.
Somebody else will if I don't
Walk up and ask you your name right now
Offer to buy you a drink
Sit down and tell you your looks could kill
Somebody else will if I don't
Take a chance on your lips
Lean in slowly stealin' your kiss like this
Makin' your world stand still
Somebody else will
Somebody else will
She looked at me confused. "What are you talking about? I haven't heard from you in a week?" She asked.
Okay, that was fair but I'd been busy. "I was busy. I had some friends in town." I told her.
She shook her head. "You know what? It doesn't matter. You're not my boyfriend, you don't owe me any explanations. I just don't want to be one of the many anymore." She said. I couldn't believe this!
"Oh, Rory, come on!" I said. I had to find a way to fix this somehow. I really didn't want to lose her.
Lanny walked out of his room. "Hey Logan, Cassandra's on the phone." Lanny said.
"Take a message." I said, never taking my eyes off of her.
"She's got a great accent. Where's she from?" Lanny asked. Not helping!
"Lanny! Message!" I was starting to get pissed off.
"Fine. Relax, man. Geez." Lanny said going back into his room and shutting the door, leaving me and Rory alone again.
"Go call Cassandra back. We're done here." She said.
Maybe you're a little bit west coast
Maybe you're a little bit down home
Either way girl I just gotta know
I just gotta know
"How are we done here?" I asked. I was losing her.
"I said everything I have to say." She said.
"Which is what?"
"I'm a girlfriend girl, Logan. I have boyfriends, not escorts." She said. So that's what this was about.
"Ah." I said and I started pacing.
"I thought I could be different, but I can't. I'm sorry. Maybe we can just go back to being friends again." She said.
So that's what this was really about? She was giving me an ultimatum about being her boyfriend. Could I do it though? "Or maybe we can become boyfriend and girlfriend, right?" I asked her mad.
"What?"
"I get it. I get what you're doing." I said. I'd never had a girlfriend before. It just wasn't something that I did. I knew that my life after Yale was planned out for me so I was planning on living my freedom the best that I could until graduation. Or at least that had been the plan. Then I met her. She'd been changing everything for me since I'd met her at the beginning of the school year and she didn't even know it.
"I'm not doing anything." She said.
"Hey, if that's what you want then just come out and say it. But you coming in here and issuing an ultimatum -" I trailed off because she interrupted.
"I am not issuing an ultimatum!" She said.
"That's not what I heard." Great now I was picking a fight with her.
"I said lets be friends." She said.
"That's not what you meant!" I said. I heard her mumble something about a taco. Was she hungover? I liked Rory… a lot. It wasn't just about the sex, even though that was great. She was pretty, smart. She fit in with my friends. She could hold her own in a debate. I walked across the room and stood in front of her. "All right, fine. I'll do it." I said. What?
"Do what?" She asked confused. Maybe she was hungover. She was a little slow today.
"I'll be your boyfriend." I said.
'Cause somebody else will if I don't
Walk up and ask you your name right now
Offer to buy you a drink
Sit down and tell you your looks could kill
Somebody else will if I don't
Take a chance on your lips
Lean in slowly stealin' your kiss like this
Makin' your world stand still
Somebody else is gonna hold you
Somebody gonna get to know you
If I don't get there and sweep you off your feet
Girl somebody else will
Ohh somebody else will
She gasped. "You can't be my boyfriend." She said when she recovered.
"Why not?" I asked. Did she not want me at all? Was it not just about the casual dating?
"Because you told me that you can't be my boyfriend." She said.
She had a point. I had told her that at her grandparents wedding. But all of that had changed. If I had to try being her boyfriend to keep from losing her, I would. I wasn't sure how great I would be at it, but it was worth a try. "If I say I can, then I can." I said.
I watched for her reaction. "You have a hundred girls on speed dial. You keep a second bathrobe in your closet for overnight guests." She pointed out. She wasn't wrong.
It didn't matter. "That's all beside the point. You came in here to say that you were unhappy with the situation, right?" I asked her.
She nodded. "Right."
"Fine. I've rectified the situation. Problem solved." I said. I hoped that it was true.
"No problem not solved." She said, shaking her head.
I should've known it wouldn't be that easy. "Hey. If I say I can do this, I can do this!" I said. There was a knock at the door and I went to open it. The was a girl standing there. She said something about me buying her lunch. Rory told her that we were almost done. I closed the door back, with the girl waiting on the other side. This was not my day.
"So, the Swedish flight attendants should be here any minute." Rory said sarcastically.
"I swear this situation has never happened to me before in my life." I said. I was about to lose her. I could feel it. She was about to walk out of my life.
"Logan…"
Somebody else will if I don't
Walk up and ask you your name right now
Offer to buy you a drink
Sit down and tell you your looks could kill
Somebody else will if I don't
Take a chance on your lips
Lean in slowly stealin' your kiss like this
Makin' your world stand still
Somebody else will baby
Ohh somebody else will
Yeah somebody else will
Somebody else will
"Rory. Do you really want to stop seeing me?" I asked her. I had to do… something.
"No, but I can't -"
I interrupted her. "'Cause I really don't want to stop seeing you." I said, stepping closer to her, slowly decreasing the space that was between us.
"Okay, but -"
I interrupted her again. "So, then just accept what I'm saying. I like trying new things. It's new, it's different, but I can do it." I said.
Her face softened as I closed the remaining distance between us. "Are you sure?" She asked. I cupped her face with both hands and pulled her in for a kiss. "Well, I know you can do that, but -" I pulled her in for another kiss. "I really want to believe you."
"Then believe me. We're starting fresh right now, new beginning. So, you want to go grab some lunch? We'll hammer out the details." I said, she was almost there.
"I should probably change first." She said.
"Go home, change. I'll pick you up in half an hour." I said.
"Okay." She said. I got her. She was mine.
I kissed her again. And we both laughed. "See how good this is going so far? I think I'm going to be an excellent boyfriend." I said.
She nodded. "I agree. Now do you want to go tell her, or should I?" She asked, reminding me of the girl in the hallway.
"Oh crap. I'll be right back."
