After a few weeks of Arizona smiling at her phone from texting, and subtle eye flirting. Carina finally texted her about the date. She said she'd pick her up at 8 and take her to Serafina on Eastlake Avenue. She texted her to wear something fancy.
"What does wear something fancy mean," Arizona asked looking at herself in the mirror picking out all her flaws.
"I think it means to wear something fancy," Lexie answer back with a bit of sarcasm.
"I know but what I have nothing fancy I have a suit one suit and it doesn't even fit anymore," Arizona complained.
"Ok well we can walk to my house and you can try something of mine on," Lexie offered.
"Alright, I guess," Arizona said with a bit of irritation in her voice.
"We don't have to if you don't want to," Lexie said singing the irritation.
"No it's ok I'm just a little stressed," Arizona told her.
Lexie just gave her an understanding nod and they left. When they arrived at the brightest house on the block lexie knocked on the door which slightly confused Arizona.
"I forgot my keys at home," Lexie explained.
someone finally answered. A tall man who was slightly balding came to the door.
"you didn't tell me we would have company over,' the man said.
"it was a spur of the moment type thing dad," lexie told him.
"well when you have another please notify me," he said
"ok dad," Lexie said kinda annoyed.
the man who she presumed to be lexies dad moved to of the way letting them in.
"That's just my dad he's a bit weird sometimes," Lexie explained.
she walled it a room towards the end of the hallway.
"oh you can take your shoes off right here," Lexie told her.
lexie started to walk to her room when she finally realized she had a guest again she let Arizona know. "oh you can follow me," Lexie said.
they walk past what Arizona assumed was the living room past the kitchen and dining room down a hallway to lexies room. When she opened the door it look like a rainbow just threw up in there it was so bright. Arizona had a look on her face and Lexi could tell.
"yup that's the same way my mom reacted when she saw my room all she could say was yep that's something," lexie said with a laugh. "at least you didn't say what mer said she told me it looked like a unicorn ejaculated all over my room and no one needs that visual," lexie said with a chuckled.
well, that made me feel better Arizona thought to herself.
"the closets right there," Lexie said pointing as she sat on her bed. "you can just go right in," lexie told.
but Arizona was new to the whole friend thing and she was too scared to even sit down. Lexie noticed this and got up and opened the closet she started to look through her stuff. Arizona took a few steps back and sat on the bed.
"So did you ever ask about Callie and Mark," Arizona asked?
"Yeah it did and you were right," Lexie said walking over to the bed with a few dresses.
"I knew it," Arizona said a bit too excited.
"mark also asked me on a date," lexie snuck that little fact in there as she dropped the dresses on the bed.
Arizona grabbed lexies hand shaking her as she sat up on her knees. This side from Arizona was new to lexie so she was kinda frighted yet intrigued.
"OMG seriously tell me all about it," Arizona said.
"well Derek, mer, mark, and I were hanging out at the park and I just randomly asked and he was like what do you wanna know that for little grey," Lexie said giving her best Mark impression. "And then I said something about you asking and he said did I make up some elaborate story because I liked him and I don't now know what happened I guess I blushed and he just asked me out on a date," Lexie said really fast having to catch her breath when she ended.
"OMG I'm so happy for you," Arizona said.
"I know he's not the best person but," lexie explained before Arizona cut her off.
"look you don't have to explain your decision to me," Arizona told her.
"I just don't want you to judge me," lexie confessed.
"I would never you're the first real friend I made In this hell hole," Arizona told her.
"Hey Seattle's not that bad," Lexie said.
"It rains every two seconds," Arizona teased.
"here try this on," Lexie said as she threw a short blue dress to her " bathroom is that door," she said pointing to the door with Harry styles lyrics a sunflower on it.
Arizona threw her clothes off to the ground. She was never really too fond of her own body and the large mirror in lexies bathroom wasn't helping. She tried her best not to pick at her thighs. she tried her best to shake off the insecurities as she put on the royal blue mini dress. It was long on her but it had drawstrings in the side. Arizona has been in there for at least 10 minutes.
"Arizona you ok in there," Lexie asked?
"Yeah I'm ok," Arizona said coming out of her daze
"Ok you gonna come out," Lexie asked?
"Yeah I am," Arizona said removing herself from her spot in front of the mirror.
She walked out of the bathroom. And much to her surprise, Lexie stared.
"Do I have it in wrong," Arizona asked?
"No it just has never looked this good on me," Lexie said finally shutting her mouth.
The complement made Arizona smile a bit.
"What time is it," Arizona said playing with her hair.
"Around 7 jeez really," Lexie said looking at her phone.
"I guess time flies when you're doing stuff that needs to get done," Arizona says with a chuckle.
"Ok let's get your makeup and accessories on," Lexie said.
"What about shoes," Arizona asked.
"Just wear some converse just in case your too fancy," Lexie told her getting her makeup supplies out. She patted the seat next to her vanity.
Arizona sat.
"Close your eyes," Lexie said before applying eyeshadow.
"How do you know if you really like someone," Arizona randomly asked?
"I know when I like someone because they start to give me butterflies," Lexie said.
Arizona opened her eyes giving her a look. That let Lexie know she needed to elaborate.
"Like when they compliment me or touch me. Or do things for me," Lexie explained.
"Oh," Arizona said sitting in the chair as Lexie moved on to the next eye.
Arizona stayed quiet for the remainder of the time it took for Lexie to finish her makeup. By the time she was finished, it was 7:30. Arizona got her clothes and belongings and left. When she got back home her parents greeted her. They knew about the date but she was so scared of how her parents would react.
"Woah I think I might have to stick your mom on the girl, you know so she doesn't get any ideas," Daniel said in a dad joking way.
"Haha very funny," Arizona said sarcastically setting her blue Jean jacket on the chair in the kitchen.
"I'm serious you're my baby girl and I can't scare the girl but your mom sure can," Daniel said.
"yeah yeah," Arizona said.
Arizona scrolled through her phone to kill time. she saw a picture Callie posted. and it made Arizona's stomach feel weird. are these butterflies Arizona thought to herself. but she didn't get the chance to dip deeper into that feeling as she heard a honk.
a few seconds she heard a knock on the door she almost full-on talked her dad to get to the door before him thankful she was wearing sneakers. she smoothed her dress and opened the door.
"hi," carina said with a little wave.
" hey," said with the same awkward tone carina had.
Arizona's parents stood behind her like two dimwits. daniel took the moment of silence to stretch out his hand to greet carina.
"hi my name is the colonel," he said with a smile only had joke barbara tapped him on the arm lightly
"well then hi the colonel," carina said.
barbara spoke up next.
"I'm Arizona's mom," she said.
" well Mrs robbins I think we should get going or we will be late for our reservation," carina said. "And don't worry ill have her back before ten."
"all alright well see you soon," Mrs. Robbins said handing Arizona her purse.
Arizona got in the nice black car.
"this yours," Arizona asked as she put her seatbelt on.
"yep," carina said as she started the car.
Arizona thought it would be a quiet car ride but every ten seconds carina would try to painfully bring up topics to talk about. It was like torture. By the time they arrived at the restaurant Arizona had used all her fake nice up.
Carina opened the door to Arizona's side of the car and helped her out they crossed the street and Carina tossed the keys to the valet and said something in Italian. She had to admit it was really hot. Once they got seated a waiter came to get our order and Arizona got the cheapest thing ravioli with pesto sauce. A few minutes into them waiting Arizona saw Callie walking up to the table.
"Fancy seeing you here," Callie joked.
"I'm on a date," Arizona said slightly annoyed at the fact.
"Oh," Callie said.
"Carina, Callie, Callie, Carina," Arizona said introducing them.
"Nice to meet you, Carina," Callie said.
" Well, I should let you guys get back to dinner."
As soon as the awkward ordeal ended. Carina started talking about her childhood in Italy. Arizona can't remember how the topic of conversation came about. She was too busy looking at the back of Callie's head.
"So Arizona tell where did you grow up," carina asked Arizona with an angelic look on her face. Arizona was too consumed by the thought of Callie to recognize the heavenly body right in front of her.
"Umm everywhere," Arizona answered finally, breaking out of her trance, taking a break from looking at Callie. She looked down at her phone instead.
Carina could feel something was weird about those too but she liked Arizona so she just ignored it.
"I know but like were?" carina asked again further elaborating her question.
"Literally everywhere," Arizona replied finally looking up looking at carinas beautiful face. She thought to herself is she wasn't so consumed by Callie she would have just melted for Carina right then and there.
"I know but geographically speaking like countries," Carina asked again further poking and prodding at the question Arizona clearly didn't want to answer.
Before Arizona could explain the food came out.
"Here you are ma'am," the waiter said setting Arizonas plate down in from of her. " Ravioli with pesto."
Come to think of it Arizona didn't even know what kind of ravioli it was but it was too late if she asked she asked she would feel too awkward. The waiter moved on to carina she had something with lobster the rest of it the said in Italian. I didn't even know lobster was Italian but I'm still not sure it is.
Arizona took time while carina was distracted from talking and slightly flirting with the waiter, any other time things like that would make her jealous but this just didn't, to text her mom the secret code which is an olive emoji. She only texted her mom the code if she was in danger or needed to escape a scary situation.
The waiter finally left and carina continued the game of 20 questions while simultaneously stuffing her mouth gracefully.
"Back to my last question wat countries," Carina said after her mouth was empty.
"Umm," Arizona said before her phone vibrated.
"Oh shit I gotta call my mom she just texted me saying she checked my room and that I won't be able to date till I'm sixty if I don't come home," Arizona says reading the text her mom just sent her.
"Well I can take you home," Carina offered kinda worried.
"Don't worry about it I'll call my mom and get this straightened out," I say getting up to walk towards the women's restroom.
I bump into Callie in the bathroom quite literally. "Damn you'd make an amazing football player," she joked.
Arizona had this nervous look on her face. Callie noticed it.
"What's wrong," Callie asked.
"I'm about to bail on my date and I lied to her," I say telling the truth.
"You serious," Callie said.
"Yep I told them my mom said to come home," I say slightly disappointed in myself.
"Yeah when I walk past your table I sensed it wasn't exactly a good date I tried to come up with something to save you from it but I have no good lies," Callie said.
"Could you take me home though I can't survive a 20-minute drive of awkward silence," Arizona begs. Before Callie could answer carina walked in.
"Just came to check is everything ok," Carina asks a bit worried.
"Yea it is my mom's just pissed but it's ok Callie's gonna take me home," Arizona explained.
"Are you sure," Carina asked confused?
"Yeah, I'd rather get yelled at by my mom in front of my friend rather than my date and my house is right up the street from hers," Arizona quickly come up with an excuse.
"Ok I'll pay the bill I hope you have a good night," Carina said before hugging Arizona.
Arizona quickly tried to slip a 20 in Carina's hand.
"What's this for," Carina asked?
"the bill so you don't pay for it all," Arizona explained.
"oh no you keep it I was prepared to pay for this date," carina politely declined the offer trying to slip the money back into Arizona's hands but Arizona was stronger.
"then just used it for the tip," Arizona said completely forgetting she had only been here for a few months.
"what a tip?" carina asked.
"umm, it's a monetary token of appreciation to your waiter," Arizona tried her best to explain while Callie stood in the corner of the bathroom watching the scene play out.
"but the waiter's service was terrible," carina replied still severely confused.
"Yeah it's just to help the waiter," Callie answered calmly clearly used to explaining these types of things.
" Why would the waiter need help?" Carina asked now directing her questions towards Callie.
Arizona was starting to get pissed at all the questions
"Most waiters aren't paid livable wages so the tip goes to their paycheck," Callie tried her best to explain sliding her hands into her tight leather jeans.
"Why aren't they paid livable wages," Carina asked with a big lost puppy look on her face?
before Callie could answer Arizona said," Because some people are assholes."
She was embarrassed right after she said it.
"I'm sorry but we have to get going or my mom will kill me," Arizona explained like it would make u for her shitty behavior tonight. She knew it wouldn't fix it but she knew it would help her sleep night at least.
"oh ok," Carina said before going into one of the stalls.
Once they left the bathroom Arizona walked with Callie over to one of the most expensive seats in the restaurant.
"Hey daddy I'm gonna take Arizona home then go home myself," Callie told her father.
"Alright, We shouldn't be too far behind," Callie's father said referring to him and the women next to him who Arizona presumed to be Callie's mum or his wife.
"Alright see you later," Callie said before leaving the table.
We went to the coat racket before we left Arizona got her Jean jacket and Callie got her leather jacket out.
They put the on and Callie walked to her car back and her keys. once they got in the car Arizona said.
"Thanks for helping."
"What are friends for," Callie answer back Arizona physically cringed at the usage of the word friend.
"You ok," Callie asked.
"Yea I'm good," Arizona answered back. The rest of the car ride to Arizona was silent but a comfortable one.
They were just a block away before Arizona had realized what she did. She probably worried her mom half to death. She only uses the code in dire situations.
"Damn," was as Arizona could sigh as she tried her best to shrink herself into Callie's all leather seat in her car.
"You ok," Callie asked with our looking at her.
Before Arizona could respond she saw her mom standing on the porch of her house. It made her feel ten times worst than she already did. She tried to make up a new lie but she was all out of lies for the night. She took off her seatbelt and prepared for the worst.
"Arizona are you ok," Barbara asked stepping down the steps picking up Arizona as she did when she was a child?
"Yes ma'am," Arizona mutter as her mom squished her.
Arizona didn't know it but Callie also got out of the car to introduce herself but the show was even better. Barbara only put Arizona down when she heard Callie's chuckles.
She cleared her throat," My Callie Arizona friend."
There's that f- word again.
"I thought Lexie was her only friend," Barbara said slightly embarrassing Arizona.
"Yeah we meet through her," Callie said.
"well it's great that she has friends like you," Barbara said while extending her hand.
Callie took it and shook it.
"Well I should get going before my dad starts to blow up her phone," Callie said turning on her heels and heading back to her car.
Arizona went into the house. Barbara poked and prodded to get an answer but she got nowhere so she left it alone. Until Arizona came downstairs and told her everything. Daniel laugh as she retold the story much to Barbara's dismay.
"Daniel do not encourage her behavior imagine how that poor girl felt," Barbara said only making Arizona's shame grow by ten.
By the time she finished the story, her mom didn't even have anything to say. Which she hated. There was nothing she could do. So she went upstairs and prepared for bed. Right before she went to sleep she got a goodnight text from Callie.
"Good night dimples," the text read.
To which Arizona replied," Goodnight football star.
Even though Arizona's night was shit, mostly her fault, she went to sleep happy.
