It was the night after the whole date night fiasco and Arizona still felt shitty and her mom was still pissed. Her mom gave her weird looks as she ate her pancakes.
"Come on Barbara lighten up she made a dumb mistake clearly she takes after me," Daniel said trying the throw in some self-deprecating humor to help his daughter out but he couldn't save her. He drank the rest of his coffee in silence.
"Um mom i know you're mad but can I hang out with friends," Arizona asked muster all the courage she had.
"yes," Barbara said way too calmly for Arizonas liking. It was creepy especially since she had a knife in her hand.
"Are you sure because I know you're mad at me and stuff-," Arizona rambled.
"I said yes go before I change my mind," Barbara said chopping vegetables.
Arizona scarfed down the rest of her pancakes and forced her Nikes on and raced to Lexie's house.
"Dude what's wrong with you," Lexie asked opening the door to a disheveled Arizona.
she put her finger up so she could continue to catch her breath.
"I pissed my mom off last night and I totally expect her to say no when I asked her could I hang out with friends but she said yes and then yes before she changed her mind so I basically ran to your house," Arizona explained in almost one breathe.
"Well come in I'm almost ready," Lexie said.
If Arizona wasn't I such a frenzy she would have noticed the other car in the driveway.
When she walked into Lexie's room she was fully expected to be hit with the rainbow on acid look but she was hit with Callie and Mark waiting in the room. Callie by the vanity playing with Lexie's trinkets. And Mark sitting on the bed scrolling on some mind-numbing app.
"Oh hey Arizona," Callie said dropping the trinket in her hand like she'd been caught red-handed.
"Hey zona," Mark said looking up for a split second taking the pick out his mouth.
"um we just waiting till Ellis leaves to go to Meredith's," Lexie explained kinda pushing past Arizona to sit on her bed.
"Woah how many chapters did I miss," Arizona asked?
"I thought you guys just went on a date," Arizona said.
"I'm sorry but we've been dating for a bit," Lexie said genuinely with a chuckle.
"I'm sorry she lied but it was only to protect our relationship," Mark explained.
"No it's fine I understand I'm the new girl you don't have to tell me everything. But since you told me you might as well elaborate," Arizona asked so she would be caught up on the tea.
"Well, Derek sees Lexie as a little sister, because Me, Derek, and Addie grew up together from pre-k to 4th grade."
Arizona held back her urge to correct him
"Then all of our parents moved to Seattle," Mark continued. "I honestly don't know why don't care because in the fifth grade we meet Callie, Cristina, and Meredith. Meredith became like a sister to him contrary to popular belief Addison was a total tomboy she needed no protecting. Meredith didn't really either she had Cristina but Cristina couldn't do it all. Callie and I became best friends. And we all just accepted Cristina. It's not like we don't like her but she's a packaged deal and we're ok with that," Mark explained.
" Ok get on with the story," Arizona said rushing mark.
"I will if you don't interrupt me," Mark said like he was truly hurt.
"Anyway fast forward about 5 years, it's like 9th grade Lexie moves to town. We find out Meredith is Lexie's sister from her dad's new marriage," Mark said.
"at first she was furious but she slowly accepted her. And Derek got really attached to her he had a new sister. Derek will protect all of us with his life but especially Lexie. Not to make him sound like some macho sexist but it's true. And I don't exactly have the reputation of being the best boyfriend. So we kept it a secret so that Derek won't find out. Which he still can not but Lexie convinced me to let other people know," Mark said finishing the story.
"oh, not as interesting as I thought it would be," Arizona joked as she plopped down on the bed.
lexie punched her in the arm.
"ow," Arizona said as she rubbed her arm.
"that's what you get for being a douche," Lexie said joining but the worst hurt Arizona a bit because they were kind of true.
They all laugh. Until Callie's phone started to ring.
"hedwigs theme didn't see that one coming, "Arizona tease.
As Callie picked up the phone Arizona could see Callie tense.
"Hey babe," Arizona's heart broke into a thousand pieces.
"um I'm hanging out with friends," Callie said as she put her AirPods in to make her conversation private.
"yes mark is here," Callie said rolling her eyes.
"you shouldn't be jealous or worried," Callie said.
the conversation must've gotten heated because Callie looked like she might cry. To save herself from further embarrassment she left the room.
"who is that," Arizona asked mark trying to hide her hurt.
"Erica is Callie's toxic and borderline abusive on and off girlfriend," Mark explained to Arizona.
"i hate that girl," Lexie said.
"don't we all," Mark said.
"when i told you she was single she was. she must've just gotten back with her," Lexie told her.
"is ok," Arizona lied.
a few moments later Callie came back in with a red face like she'd just been crying.
"um, guys I'm going to have to take a raincheck on the hangout something just popped up," Callie was a horrible liar.
"Ok see you later then," Mark said already knowing the drill.
"It's cool we can take my car," lexie said with a sad look on her face getting off the bed to hug Callie.
"See you at the game tomorrow cheerleader," Callie asked after lexie let her go.
"Um yeah," Arizona gave her a hesitant answer.
"Alright bye," Callie said with a hint of sadness in her voice that she didn't hide well before she picked up her bag and left the room.
Arizona only stayed a few moments after Callie left.
"uh i think I'm going leave," Arizona said as mark and lexie got cozier on the bed.
"don't leave," Lexie said.
"you guys are getting cozy and i don't want to be the third-wheel," Arizona told them
"Alright," Mark said which earned him a punch in the arm from lexie.
"no stay we can do something else," lexie offered.
"no I'm good and it looks like mark is good too," Arizona joked before leaving.
As soon as Arizona got home her mother asked.
"what's wrong why are you home so early you've only been gone an hour?"
"nothing mom it was just boring so I'm gonna go read," Arizona lied as she walked up the stairs to her room.
As soon as she locked her door she began to cry. It wasn't a regular cry it was one of those silent sobs. Where your body goes weak and all you can do is cry. The ones when you cry so much you feel like you have to vomit. Arizona cried so much it made her sick. She wanted to break everything in her eyesight. Yet she didn't know what she felt this way or she didn't want to admit it just yet.
Once she calmed down she pulled up her coach's number and called it. It rang three times before she heard a voice.
"hello coach Herman speaking," the woman on the other end spoke
"um this Arizona and I'm pretty sick so I don't think ill be able to cheer tomorrow," Arizona half lied.
"alright ill make note of this but you're going to have to clean the cheer locker room because you don't sound very sick to me but ill take your word for it," coach Herman tells her.
"thank you coach ill be ready next game," Arizona says.
"alright rest up because we have another game in a week," the coach said.
"I will," Arizona said before she heard a clicking noise on the other end signifying the other person hung up.
She put her phone on her nightstand and climbed into bed. Wanting to slip away from this world.
A/N: ik the end sounds kinda sew*rslidal but its not I promise. also, I'm trying out a thing where I make song titles the name of the chapter how'd I do.
