Divergent fanfiction, takes place during Insurgent. Eric x OC. Been sitting on this idea for awhile and nobody's written it so here I am! :)
SUMMARY:
Alissa is a Candor transfer from Erudite. However, when she runs into one of Dauntless' most ruthless leaders, will her smart mouth get her in trouble, or will she find that her bravery turns her life upside down?
Chapter 1:
I woke up around 5 in the evening, as I usually did. I was never a morning person, so I was more than happy to accept a job as a night receptionist in the main hall of Candor. It was usually pretty dead. The only other people around were the Candor security guards, who had about 3 months of rudimentary training from Dauntless, and the occasional drunk resident who got locked out of their room.
I leisurely finished my bowl of oatmeal while watching the evening news. Dauntless' and Erudite's hunt for divergents was still ongoing. I couldn't help the wave of relief that I had transferred out of my home faction of Erudite. Sure, it had always been cold and unfriendly, but the threat of imminent death was a whole different level of ruthless. I had tested as Divergent several years ago, in my aptitude test. I remember nervously looking around me as both I and Edwin, a nerdy blonde boy, also from Erudite, were called. Edwin walked in with a haughty confidence typical of a member of Erudite. I, unfortunately, could not say the same. After the test was over, the petite Abnegation woman had calmly told me that I was mainly Candor and Erudite with just a little bit of Dauntless. She advised me not to pick Erudite or Candor as my result, but I ignored her and went with Candor anyway.
Thankfully, my divergence had never been much of an issue at Candor. The faction generally respected its members' honesty in admitting their divergence and didn't punish them for it. Of course, there were still some inherent biases against divergents, so many divergents were unable to climb the ranks of leadership in Candor. That was fine with me, since I still had a comfortable enough position.
If there was one thing we Candor loved to do, it was gossip. Rumor had it that many of the divergents, who were being led by some escaped Dauntless, were hiding out in Amity. I knew this, however, Dauntless and Erudite clearly did not. I'm not a liar, but I'm not exactly in the habit of volunteering information either, so I was perfectly amused to watch them pursue their directionless witchhunt.
However, I couldn't help the feeling of my blood running cold from what I heard next from my electronic monitor: "Recent reports have spotted the Dauntless and Erudite leadership heading in the direction of Candor in their quest for divergents. City residents are encouraged to report any known divergents to Lisa Williams at 800-432-7382. Now for the weather, John, back to you." Oh. Shit. Lisa Williams was Jeanine's personal assistant and right-hand woman. She was also a raging bitch. I wasn't concerned about Lisa, now, however. I was much more concerned about the parade of Dauntless soldiers that would heading right to Candor's door. While Candor remained neutral in the divergent standoff, we also are a faction of honesty, and I knew that no one would hesitate in providing my name if directly asked about divergents living here. Shit. Shit. Shit. I was so royally fucked right now.
Nevertheless, it was now 5:30pm, and I needed to get to work. Slowly, tremblingly, I pulled on my white blouse, black dress pants and cardigan, and black flats and tied my hair in the signature Candor high ponytail (I suppose that should have been another sign of my future faction; even in Erudite I had always stood out, preferring to wear my hair in a high ponytail rather than a short bob). I didn't have time to dwell on my fashion choices, now though. Tonight I had to leave for my shift, and I had a feeling this would be the most eventful shift I've had in a while.
