Lotus
Saiki
~Other People~
"Alright let's get this thing started shall we? Hello, my name is Lotus Yamaguchi just your average high school sophomore. What may I look like you may be thinking well not to worry I'll give you a quick rundown. My hair is peach pink and it reaches my lower back. My skin is ivory but I tan like a crab so I make sure to wear plenty of sunscreen when I go out. My smile can light up even the darkest of rooms, haha, well, at least that's what my sister says anyway. My favorite feature is my eyes. Pink, but a different shade of my hair. They're magenta."
"Now how tall may I be? Well, I'm 5'3" with a slim yet muscular build. Now something that does bother me, and other girls is those big things stuck to my chest. Not that I don't appreciate being a woman and all the magnificent glories that come with it but I'm tired of the hassle that comes with them. Often described as 'above average' for my age brings unnecessary and unwanted attention. That's right I'm looking at you 'men who can't say no and use public transportation to act so grossly'. Anyway, let me stop before I start on a rant. To make things short. I'm just your average ordinary teen with normal hobbies, well at least I thought I was. Things took a shape turn when I met him. Who is he? Well, I'll tell you, it all started on my first day at my new school P.K. Academy..."
An Unusual First Day - Or The Beginning of Lotus's Very Not So Ordinary Life
It was early morning, the day for most people was just beginning. Adults were off to work and students were off to school, and that's where one Lotus Yamaguchi was heading off to. She stepped out of her home, school bag slung over her shoulder. She was antsy, yet excited for the day to begin. A new school, a new adventure.
"Okay, Lotus let's make this a good first day."
With a small self pep talk, Lotus exited the gate that encircled her new home making her way down the street towards her new school. With a pep in her step and the latest pop song blaring on repeat in her head, her walk to school was rather enjoyable. She took in the fresh air and appreciated the scenery. She'd made it several blocks down when she turned a corner only to run face-first into a wall.
"Ooof!"
Lotus grunted tumbling back onto the street landing on her butt in a rather ungraceful manner. Her bag slipped off her shoulder landing by her side.
"A wall? Did I hit a dead end?"
"Hey sorry bout that." Somone apolgozied, there voice a bit gruff.
"Oh, not a wall its a person. I ran into a person." Lotus looked up to return with her own apology. "GAH!"
She jolted in her spot scrambling back a bit. Before her was a tall...man? He had a, dare she say it, butt-shaped chin, a scar over his eye, and one of the strangest haircuts she'd ever seen. But he was in a school uniform, so that meant he was a high schooler, right? Or did he steal it trying to fool people?
The high schooler–that's still up for debate–let out a laugh rubbing the back of his head.
"Sorry for running into to you. I was looking for my buddy and didn't see you." He held out Lotus's bag. "Here's your bag."
"Uh..."
Aprreacitng the kind gesture Lotus took the bag back.
"Okay, Lotus remember what Dad always said don't judge a book by its cover. I mean he said sorry and gave me my bag back instead of running off with it."
After securing her bag Lotus stood up dusting off any residual dirt that had attempted to cling to her skirt. She gave the much taller guy a polite smile.
"I'm sorry too. Thank you for getting my bag."
"Haha, no problem! Hey, that's my school uniform! I've never seen you before."
"Oh, I'm new!" Lotus gave a bow, "I'm Lotus Yamaguchi, feel free to call me Lotus."
"Nice to meetcha I'm Nendou!" He grinned so wide and bright Lotus couldn't help but feel bad about the previous negative thoughts she had about him.
"Well, it wasn't the ideal meeting, but nice to meet you as well Nendou."
"Hey since your here let's walk to school together. My best buddy should be around here somewhere, we can all walk together!" Nendo said
"Oh, well thank-"
Lotus couldn't finish her sentence as Nendou had already slung his arm over the girl's shoulder, already guiding her down the street.
"Let's go!"
"Well...Could be worst."
Lotus had been guided all the way to school by her newest "pal" Nendou. He never did find his so-called 'best buddy', so it had just been the two of them the entire way. They parted ways once they entered school, Nendou making a big spectacle as he said goodbye and invited Lotus to sit with him and his friends during lunch.
"He doesn't seem so bad. A bit talkative. Kind of reminds me of a Great Dane. Large, a bit intimidating at first glance, but goofy.
Lotus received her class information from the clearly worn-out school reactionist. She'd be in Class 3. Now knowing where she'd be going Lotus ventured off to her class. Upon arriving she was met with the homeroom teacher. A middle-aged woman, with brown hair, and a gentle smile.
"There you are, Yamaguchi-san, correct?"
"Yup, that's me."
"Well come on in, the class is rather excited to have a new student."
The teacher opened the door and stepped inside, with Lotus on her heels. The class, which had been full of the lively chatter of adolescent prattle, grew silent.
"Good Morning everyone. I'm sure you've all heard, but we do indeed have a new student joining us. Go ahead and introduce yourself."
Lotus took a spot at the front of the class, right by the teacher's desk. She smiled giving a bow.
"Hello, I'm Lotus Yamaguchi. My family moves around a lot but we finally settled so I hope to be able to stay at P.K. Feel free to call me Lotus."
The room remained silent for only a moment longer before it erupted in the not-so-quiet whispers of the other students.
"She's so cute! Look at her!"
"I see! I see!"
"How do you think she got her hair so long?"
"~Oh wow!~"
Lotus just kept her smile, ignoring the lesser savory comments.
"Lotus," The Teacher addressed the teen, "There's a free seat right over there."
"Thank you."
She took her seat and looked at her new seating buddy. An apathetic-looking boy, with pink hair.
Lotus sighed as the first break came. Class was just what she expected it to be, luckily her parents provided her with excellent homeschooling, so far it didn't seem like she wasn't going to be behind.
"Hey, gal pal!"
"GAAAH!"
Lotus screamed as a hand dropped on her shoulder. Whipping around she came face to face with Nendou. Shocked, she nearly fell out of her seat.
"What the?! How did he just appear like that!? You can't just pop up like that without warning!"
"Haha looks like my new gal pal is in class with me. This is great!" Nendo said
"Can you stop saying gal pal, it sounds weird."
"Haha, I can't wait for you to meet..."
Lotus just allowed Nendo to prattle on nodding every once in a while. "There's no point in stopping him. Guys like that don't stop talking even if you tape their mouths shut. I wonder if everyone is as strange as Nendo? Nah this guy is in a league of his own."
"Hey, Kaidou come meet my new friend!"
"Kaidou?"
Nendo seemed to be a friendly yet forceful guy because he proceed to snag a silver-haired boy by the back of his uniform, dragging him over to Lotus's desk.
"You idiot! Why did you pull me like tha-?!"
Kaidou, who was ready to give Nendou a verbal lashing, stopped short when he saw Lotus.
"Meet my new pal, Lotus! This runt here is Kaidou," Nendou said.
"Stop calling me runt! And there's no way this girl is your friend!" Kaidou yelled pointing at Lotus.
"Of course she is," Nendo replied with a goofy smile.
"No way! I can't believe it! She's way too cute!" Kaidou yelled
"Uhm thanks?" Lotus said
"Such a backhanded compliment, I kinda feel bad for Nendo."
"I'm Lotus. Nice to meet you." Lotus greeted interrupting Kaidou.
Kaidou straightened up, rigid like a soldier spotting his superior officer. His cheeks went pink, bright like cherries. He coughed into his fist trying to collect himself.
"Let me introduce myself." Kaidou held up his right arm. "I am the great defender Kaidou!"
"Wait...is he serious?"
"Also known as The Jet Black Wings!"
"He seriously can't be serious?"
"I fight to protect the world from the mysterious organization known as Dark Reunion. Who is trying to use my power to take over the world!"
"Oh my, he's seriously serious about this."
"What was that term again used for guys like this? I think it started with a C?" Lotus mumbled under her breath,
"It's Chuunibyou."
Lotus snapped her fingers. "Yeah, that's right. Thank you."
"Thanks for what?" Nendou questioned.
"For telling me-"
"Wait, that wasn't Nendou nor Kaidou. Then who answered?"
Glancing around Lotus found the only other person within range of their conversation, her new seat buddy. She hadn't really taken the time to study him, but now that she did she could see his rather unique look. Green lensed glasses and bobbled hair clips that look very much like antennae. What drew Lotus in though was his hair.
"Pink hair!" Lotus thought excitedly. "Out of all the crazy and outrageous hairstyles I've seen I've yet to meet anyone else with pink hair. As strange as it is, I've always wanted a friend with pink hair like me."
"Buddy!"
Nendo appeared before the boy blocking Lotus's view of the pink-haired boy.
"Oh look Nendo found a new victim."
"Great and my morning was so peaceful."
The annoyance Lotus heard was very apparent.
"Come and meet my new gal pal!" Nendou insisted.
"If there's anyone who shouldn't use that term it's you."
This time it was Lotus being grabbed, pulled over to the other boys' desk.
"Lotus this is my best buddy in the whole world Saiki! Saiki this is the new girl and my newest buddy Lotus."
To Lotus, it looked like Saiki could care less.
"I would like to make friends and I've always wanted to make a friend who shared the same hair color as me so this is my chance."
Lotus smiled, giving Saiki a bow. "Nice to meet you, Saiki. I'm Lotus. I hope we can become good friends."
"Yeah not gonna happen."
"Eh!? So blunt!"
"Being friends with a cute girl like her would draw too much attention."
While Lotus had been taken aback by Saiki's bluntness, it wasn't too much of a shock. He looked like he didn't want to be bothered, and some people were just blunt by nature. But what was really throwing her off was the fact that he was talking without moving his lips.
"EEEH?! H-How the heck-he's talking but his lips aren't moving! Whaaaaat?!"
Lotus was trying her best to keep a straight face, her smile more forced with a tick on the corners, as she trembled in her spot. Keeping her composure was hard because she was freaking out on the inside. What made matters worse no one else seemed to notice.
"I can't wait for my buds to become buds. After school, we can all get ramen." Nendo said
"Why do you always have to drag me into everything you do?"
"Why is no one else freaking out about this!"
Lotus had a hard time for the rest of class. She tried her best to pay attention, she really did, but how could her mind focus on the Pythagorean Theorem when there was some kind of anomaly sitting just one seat over. tried her best to pay attention in class but it was hard. Her mind racked over dozens of scenarios that could put some sore of logic behind what she had just witnessed.
Lotus's eyes were practically glued to Saiki the whole time, something that didn't go unnoticed by the pink-haired boy.
"Why does she keep staring at me?"
"GAAH! There it goes again!"
"It's bad enough she sits next to me, guys are already scheming how to switch seats with me to sit next to her. Yare yare daze..."
"Ahhhhhhh! What's happening?! Am I going insane!? Is this like a party trick?! Is Saiki some kind of expert ventriloquist!? Wait no that's just a dumb thought. Am I like reading his mind or something?! Am I psychic?! No that's not possible?!"
This went on for the rest of the class period.
The next break had finally rolled around. Students dispersed from their desks, grouping up and joining their friends to talk, most students anyway. Lotus was glued to her seat still trying to process Saiki.
"I'm getting so worked up over this. I think my head's gonna explode. I know! I'll just act like Mom and be straightforward. After school, I'll just directly ask Saiki himself. It's not the usual route I'd go but this isn't a usual case."
With that plan set in mind, Lotus seemed to calm down just a bit. Tucking that in the back of her mind Lotus looked forward to the rest of her day being quite normal.
"Did you hear a deadly snake escaped from the zoo?"
Or not.
"There's a poisonous snake on the loose?"
"Oh greeeeat. Just what I needed to hear. Well, at least snakes aren't too bad. Typically if you leave them alone they'll leave you alone. But still, no one wants to risk getting bitten by a poisonous reptile."
"Are you boys sure it escaped?"
"Oh no..."
Kaidou strolled up to the group of students who'd been discussing the snake's grand escape. He had his arms crossed, with an overconfident aura that anyone with low self-esteem would appreciate to have.
"An animal attack is just the kind of plan they'd come up with," Kaidou said.
"Please. Stop talking while you still can."
"Fear not for I the Jet Black Wings can never be fooled by their deception. Someone must have set that snake free on purpose." Kaidou declared.
If this had been an anime, surely a cool backdrop would appear with awesome music going off as Kaidou ranted.
"If you stop talking now you can still save some face."
Another classmate stood up looking at Kaidou. "Wait you know the guy who did this Kaidou!?"
"Some wannabe supervillain called the Jet Black Wing?" Another boy questioned.
"Just walk away Kaidou."
"No, I'm the Jet Black Wings, the hero. The villains are a secret organization called Dark Reunion. Releasing the snake is the first step in their evil plot to enslave mankind."
"Dark Reunion?... Who?... Never heard of them."
The hype Kaidou had built died fast. Everyone was done with Kaidou's little fantasy but he was not giving up that easy. He set his sights on a new target.
"Once again the fate of the world has fallen into our superpower laps ey Saiki."
"Superpower? Is Saiki a Chuunibyou too. I find that so hard to believe I can't even imagine it."
Lotus attempted to conjure up the image of Saiki dressed in a similar fashion as Kaiodu going off in a flight of fancy, but the whole thing just seemed very wrong.
"Oh boy. He doesn't realize I actually do have superpowers."
"Wait what?!"
Lotus heard Saiki loud and clear even if no one else did.
"Does he really have powers?! Is that why I can hear his thoughts. Even if he did have powers me being able to hear his thoughts doesn't make any sense!"
"I don't like this one bit. The snake which I have named Murder-Dragoram-Snake is likely no ordinary snake." Kaidou said
"That's quite the dramatic name."
"Couldn't agree more."
"It's also likely Dark Reunion genetically engineered Murder-Dragoram-Snake to specifically kill people," Kaidou said
"He's fond of saying likely."
"That he is...great, now I'm having an inner conversation sparked by Saiki's thoughts."
"We're running out of time here Saiki. The world is counting on us to stop that snake-!"
The classroom door flew open as a guy rushed in. "Hey, good news they caught the snake!"
"Oh, that's relief where'd they find it?" A girl asked
"In front of the school. It was kind of lying on the ground half dead."
Kaidou was the only one who took this news hard. A shock so stunning that it cause his jaw to drop so far it almost his chest.
"Okay, why was it half-dead?" Someone asked
"Some first graders had been whipping it around."
"That's one weak ass murder snake."
"Sounds like we beat Dark Reunion this time." A guy mocked
"Be careful what you say they're an all-powerful society."
"Who knows what they'll do to you when they enslave mankind."
"HAHAHAHAHAH!"
From her seat Lotus watch as Kaidou's shoulders began to shake, a clear sign that his classmates' mockery had hit a soft spot. To others, it might look like he was angry but...
"Hehe go ahead and laugh." Kaidou scoffed and headed for the doors. "This is the calm before the storm. Dark Reunion is coming. I-I tried to warn you all I swear."
He almost ended on a high note, if his last sentence didn't come out with a quivering whimper.
"He's going to the bathroom to cry."
Now it was Lotus's turn to be shocked. "N-No way! Saiki and I had the same exact thought. What the heck is going on?!"
Was Lotus about to start freaking out again? Yes. Yes, she was, but before the countdown for her meltdown could start something hit her, not physically but mentally. Like a warning sign had gone off in her head. It reminded her of a character from a comic she enjoyed reading. Her Arachnid Senses were tingling.
"This is weird. Why do I suddenly feel worried?"
As she pondered upon her this odd sensation, Saiki abruptly rose from his seat and power walked his way out of the room right after Kaidou.
"I better go with him."
"Oh? Is he going to comfort Kaidou? I know I've only known the guy for a few hours and have only said about two sentences to him but even I can figure out he's not really the comforting other people type. What is he doing?"
"I can't believe he thinks he's a superhero. It's like he's in elementary school."
The fun didn't end when Kaidou left, some students still trying to take a jab at the teen.
"Man these guys are harsh."
"One time he said there was a monster in his arm."
One of the boys having a go at Kaidous' expense, grabbed at his arm pulling it into his shirt to allow the sleeve to dangle.
"You guys it's starting to take over my whole body. Watch out."
The sleeve wiggled around as if it had a mind of its own, and in some way it did.
A girl screamed hopping up from her seat. "There's something in there!"
"Huh?"
The boy shook his sleeve and out fell-
"A Snake!"
"Ahhhhh!"
The famed escaped snake. Guess there was more than one that had gotten loose, that zoo needed better security.
Panic ensued, the students screaming, a few crying. They ran around without any real purpose. It was like watching a mouse being dropped into a box, confused and chaotic. A few tried to head for the door only to have the snake slither itself into their path.
"It's blocking the door!"
Seeing no other option everyone sought safety by crawling onto their desk. The screaming not dying down in the slightest. Lotus just pulled her legs up and sat crisscrossed in her chair.
"I guess that's karma for picking on Kaidou. But how did that guy not know there was a snake in his jacket?"
"I saw that snake coming."
"Great. Saiki's out of the room and yet I can still hear him, even over the loud cries of my classmates."
"I could help them, but then I'd be outing myself. So I'll just stay here until things calm down. Speaking of calming down Kaidou should stay in here for a while too."
To conjure up the image of Kaidou alone and locked in one of the bathroom stalls as he openly wept into his hands wasn't a hard feat to do. Meanwhile, the classroom was still in disarray, some students were following 'there's safety in numbers' rule and grouped their desks together in one clump.
"Did anyone see where it went!?"
"Somebody run out and get a teacher!"
"And risk being bitten! No way!"
"Don't they know the more they freak out the more agitated it's gonna get leading it to be more likely it's gonna bite someone?"
Peeking over her desk, Lotus spotted the snake. It coiled back and dropped its jaw letting out an aggravated hiss.
"Yeah, it's really pissed now."
"What a bunch of dorks."
Cool as a cucumber was none other than Nendou. He sat in his chair, for some reason no deks insight, leaning back with his arms crossed.
"When did you get in here!?"
"Are your guy's balls still attached?" Nendou joked
"Worry about yours!" A guy yelled
"Mine feel weird," Nendo said
"Well, obviously they do!"
Lotus deadpanned not sure if she was on some kind of prank show at this point. The snake most certainly wasn't in the playing mood as it reeled back and attacked...latching itself onto Nendo's crotch.
"The snakes on your crotch!" A guy squeaked out.
3...2...1
"Geh..." And Nendou was out like a light, amazingly still able to remain on his feet.
"Nendou!"
The class was in an uproar as Nendou foamed at the mouth, blue in the face.
"Snakes have strong jaws but I don't think it's strong enough to bite through pants."
"It didn't bite through the fabric."
"Well, Saiki confirmed it."
The snake, no longer interested, let go of Nendo and slithered its way towards the students.
"It's coming towards us!"
See as it was getting closer, and it had some pretty impressive jump powers for a creature that had no legs, Lotus decided it was time to join her fellow classmates and get on her desk. As if sensing her moment the snake changed course, making its way in Lotus's direction.
"Ahhh! Now it's going after the cute new girl!" A boy yelled pointing over at Lotus.
"Someone save her!"
"I'll sacrifice myself!"
"We need a human shield!"
Lotus sweatdropped, "Geez...A bit much don't you think? Hmmm...Maybe I can find a ruler or bool to smack it with, too bad I left my baseball bat at home."
"Fear not fair maiden!"
"Huh, where'd he come from?"
Kaidou appeared out of nowhere standing before Lotus acting as a shield that protected her from the slithering reptile.
"Kaidou! What are you doing?!"
"All right Murder-Dragoram-Snake!"
"He's seriously sticking with that name. It's such a mouthful."
"It's time you face me!" Kaidou raised his arm getting in a martial arts pose, most likely one he'd seen out of a manga or on TV. "The Jet Black Wings!"
"That's a real pose!"
"Let's get out of here while we still can!"
"Fake superhero vs. real snake!"
"This is getting out of hand."
"Kaidou may look confident but he has no clue what he's doing."
All the noise only served to further irritate the snake. The scaled creature coiled up and hissed. It sprung forward, lunging right for Kaidou. Even with the snake coming forth–jaw dropped and brandishing its fangs–aiming right for his face, Kaidou stood his ground.
"Alright snake take this! Judgment Knights On!"
"Sorry, Kaidou but I'll be taking care of this."
There was a crackle and bang as lighting fell from the vast void of nothingness striking the snake. A flash of bright light briefly illuminated the room as the snake was fried to a crisp. It dropped to the floor nothing a burnt smoky husk. Everyone–including those who had mocked Kaidou just moments ago–was stunned, no, awestruck. The stupor melted giving way to a round of cheers all for Kaidou, the hero.
"W-Was that lighting? Did Saiki seriously do that?" Lotus twitched starring at the back of one stunned Kaidou. "And here I was starting to think Kaidou was just a childish idiot but he's actually a brave guy."
"I was wrong."
It only took the short amount of time between the next class for all of this to go to Kaidou's head. Smug only began to describe how swelled Kaidou's head had gotten. After not paying attention and being called out by the teacher, Kaidou sat brazenly as he addressed the man before him.
"I don't care for this new attitude of yours Kaidou," Sensei said
Kaidou remained lax in his seat crossing his arms, smirking with such arrogance it overshadowed the brave act he'd just done. "You better watch what you say Sensei. It's not a pleasant thing to be blasted by the Judgement Knights."
"Alright go to the principal's office!"
"He's gotten even more immature. I take back everything I said."
"Me too Saiki, me too."
Finally, the day came to an end, but it wasn't over yet, no, far from it. Lotus had a plan, a goal, and it was time to enact it. She'd hoped to catch Saiki right as class ended, but the boy was fast and one of the first people to leave. Lucky for her she was able to catch him at his shoe locker. He was kneeling placing his outdoor shoes on.
"The sooner I switch out my shoes the sooner I can get home."
Saiki was completely oblivious to the pink-haired girl rushing his way. He'd just slipped finished tying his shows when a hand fell upon his shoulder, actually startling the psychic.
"What? When did she get here?"
"Saiki there's something really urgent that I need to talk to you about."
"Can't I just go home?"
"Come with me right now!"
While Saiki couldn't catch a break, there was a sliver of luck. As Lotus grabbed his arm, dragging him off, no one had seen them so that meant that at least Saiki wouldn't have to deal with any annoying rumors. Lotus was stronger than Saiki would've given her credit for as she easily pulled him to a remote spot behind the school.
Saiki sighed, somehow still without moving his mouth. "I could just teleport away but then that'll just look suspicious. Guess I have to hear what she has to say. Yare yare daze, is this some kind of confession? You haven't even been here for a day."
Lotus huffed, cheek's puffing a bit. "You think highly of yourself. No, this is not a confession."
Quickly looking left then right–even looking up to check for any open windows–Lotus checked to make the coast was clear and that there would not be any prying eyes. Deeming it safe Lotus leaned a bit towards Saiki.
"Saiki, there's something important I have to tell you." Lotus got a serious look on her face. "I know you've got psychic powers."
". . . .What...did she just say?"
