Tris pov

Beep, beep, beep beep-

I slammed my hand into my alarm clock to stop the infuriating beeping. I groaned. 7 o'clock already? I pulled myself out of bed and jumped in the shower. The warm water should wake me up, I thought. `After my shower, I got dressed and walked downstairs. My parents are out of town for the week so it's just my brother Caleb at the table.

"Morning Tris." He says.

"Morning," I reply

"I'm leaving for school early today, a few other Erudites and I are working on a project." He tells me.

"Caleb, we both have cars now, you don't have to tell me EVERYTHING you're doing," I tell him, a little annoyed.

"Ok, sorry, just thought you would want to know."

"I'm sorry it's fine, just don't worry about it," I say sighing. "Bye Caleb."

"See ya, Tris" I arrive at school 20 minutes later and start off for my first class, math. I sit down at my desk next to my best friend, Christina.

"Hey." She greets me.

"Hi,"

"Are you ok Tris, you seem kinda off?" Christina questions.

"Oh yeah, I'm ok, just tired," I replied.

"Ok," She says. Just then a new kid walks in. He is tall with broad shoulders, short hair that curls at the ends, and deep striking blue eyes. I stare as he sits down in an empty desk. Christina whistles beside me. Her boyfriend, Will shoots her a look. She giggles and says,

"I'm just acknowledging good looks. You're still cuter."

"Ok, thanks," Will says, smiling again.

"Alright class, settle down, today we are taking timed tests." Mrs. Blake announces "There will be 20 questions, but they are pretty simple." "We just want to know how well you have this material down." "The person with the fastest time in the school will get a homework pass." "In case you are not sure what that means, it will grant you 100 percent on any assignment that's not a test." "When you are finished raise your hand and I will write down your time."

This causes quite a bit of murmuring from the students. Everyone wants that pass.

"Alright let's get started," Mrs. Blake says. She passes out the tests and on the count of 3 starts the timer. I start writing furiously. The questions are easy, but they take a while to solve. I bite my lip hoping I won't be the last to finish. I don't care about the pass, I just want to finish in time. I glance at the clock, 4 minutes have passed. I happen to glance back and notice that the new kid is done. Done. 20 questions in four minutes. I stare at him until he meets my gaze. He just smiles a small smile. Just then I remember that I'm being timed and turn back to my work. Four minutes, I think to myself, That's insane. And I thought I was good at math. I finished up the last question and raised my hand. Mrs. Blake motioned to me that I could put my hand down. I checked the timer. 10:22, not too bad, I think. After math class is over I tell Christina I'm gonna use the bathroom.

"Ok meet you at lunch!" (We only have math and science together.) I show her a thumbs up. I wait until she has rounded the corner and start looking for the new kid. I find him at what looks to be his locker. I wipe my hands on my jeans, they are wet with nervous sweat. I take a deep breath and walk over to him.

"Hi, that was amazing in math class, 4 minutes, I mean…" I trail off, unsure what else to say.

"Thanks." He says smiling at me. I notice that his head is tilted slightly.

"My name is Tris," I say. He nods. He almost looks like he knew that already. But, that can't be right.

"You can call me Four." He says.

"Ok, Four do you wanna sit with me and my friends at lunch?" I ask him.

"Sure." He smiles again.

"Great see you then."

"Yeah."

I walk away trying to figure out how he knew my name. At lunch, I find Four and lead him to our table.

"Four this is Christina, and Will, they are dating, and this is Uriah and Zeke are brothers. There was a chorus of "heys" from the table. Four lifts his hand in greeting and sits down next to me. He keeps quiet most of the time, smiling and nodding here and there. I keep quiet as well watching Four.

"Did you even hear what I said?" Christina says, shaking me.

"What sorry no, what did you say." She rolls her eyes at me. And whispers

"you're staring at him". I quickly look away.

"Anyway, what did you say?" I ask her, in an attempt to change the subject.

" I said there is a party at my house tonight at 10." "And you better come." She tells me.

"You know I wouldn't miss it!" "Can I invite Four?" I ask.

"Sure." She says smiling. I smile back. Later in history, My partner is Four. We are supposed to be working on a project, but we spend the whole time getting to know each other. I learn that he doesn't like heights and enjoys a wide range of movies. I tell him that I love going to parties and being in the rain. Then I invite him to Christina's party.

"So Four, Christina is having a party tonight at 10, would you like to come with me?" I ask afraid that he will say no. He shifts back and forth uncomfortably.

"Yeah, sure I'll go, just promise to stay with me, I don't know you're friends that well."

"Oh yeah, of course," I promise him. He looks away for a minute and I take the opportunity to text Christaina and tell her that Four agreed to come.

Four said he would go to ur party with me!

Yayayyayayyayaayya.

Ikr, I'm so excited.

I put my phone away when the bell rings, signaling the end of the day. I work out the details with Four about pickup for the party (We're going to meet at a park and I'll drive him from there. ) I walk out of the school building and toward my Electric SUV. I pull out my phone and start humming.
