Chapter 1:

A/N: I well aware that I only had one person show an active interest in this fanfic which happens to be my first one for Corrie. However, I've had so much fun creating a story with an OC that I've decided to publish the first chapter! I'm hoping that by publishing the first actual instalment I will be able attract some interest. Some may see where this is going whilst others may not. I would really appreciate at least two reviews as I'm pretty unsure of my writing skills and I don't publish my work unless I am completely satisfied. Please read and review or even PM to let me know what you think of this first chapter! It's great appreciated!

The young girl sat on a bench outside what appeared to be a hair salon called 'Audrey's'. She was about the age of eight and wore clothes that were more like rags, her hair was matted and her face was covered in muck. However the girl was indeed a beautiful child underneath the dirt and grime. When freshly washed, her hair was a light blonde and her eyes were a piercing blue.

The girl was just sat thinking about where she was going to lay her head down for the night as this cobbled street, which happened to be called Coronation Street, seemed too busy and as if everyone knew who's who. She couldn't risk drawing attention to herself. No, she would stick out like a sore thumb which would more than likely end up with her being caught and that couldn't happen.

She wasn't going back there.

The child was brought out of her thoughts when she heard two women nattering away from behind her and her ears perked up when she heard what one of them had just said.

"But, Carla, a whole week? Is that really necessary?" An olive skinned woman whined out.

Her raven haired companion sighed, "Maria, you'll be fine trust me. Any trouble with Frank you just call me and I'll be on the next train back from London."

'Result!' The young girl thought to herself. All she had to do was find out where this woman lived. She just hoped she lived alone. The woman, Carla, didn't seem the motherly type and the girl turned subtly to take a peak at the glamorous woman's hand. There wasn't a wedding ring in sight but that didn't mean that this Carla didn't have a boyfriend living with her. The young blonde mentally shrugged as she turned her focus back on the hair salon in front of her so it seemed like she was minding her own business.

"Come on. My train doesn't leave until eight. How about a drink in the Rovers before I have to go back to mine and get my bag?" Carla suggested.

There was silence as Maria thought about her reply until she heaved a huge sigh. "Yeah, ok but a quick one. I need to get back for Liam." And with that the two women walked off.

It was two hours later when the girl caught sight of this Carla woman again. She had moved from the bench outside the salon and was now sat opposite the pub. The weather had gotten chilly so she had her hands stuffed in her hoodie pocket and the hood was draped over her head.

A black cab pulled up just outside the pub and the girl listened intently as the dark haired woman gave the driver her address. "Drapers Mill Apartments, please."

The girl waited until the cab had pulled away before going over to the near by bus stop and breathed a sigh of relief when she saw a map of the nearby area. She guessed it would take about fifteen minutes to walk to the lady's residence so she set off in the right direction.

When she finally got to the apartment building the black cab from before was waiting outside and after a few minutes, it's intended passenger came out of the building carrying designer luggage. The girl smirked to herself, a feeling of delight coursing through her. This Carla lady clearly liked her luxuries so the girl was sure she was about to experience heaven if she was able to accomplish what she had planned.

Once the cab was once again out of sight, the child walked up to the building and checked the names on the buzzers, her eyes landed on C Connor. She pressed the button above the one for apartment four and waited patiently until someone answered. Apartment four was the only one belonging to someone with the first name starting with 'C'

"Hello?"

"Hi, my name is Rachel. I've come to see my Aunt CC at number four? I've tried buzzing but she must be out. She said to buzz one of the neighbours and I would be let in. I only have the key to her door for emergencies." Rachel tried to make herself sound as innocent as possible as she came up with the lie.

There was a couple seconds of silence until the voice replied. "You sound awfully young to be out alone."

Rachel rolled her eyes in exasperation. "My mum dropped me here. Can you please just buzz me up. It's freezing out here." She crossed her fingers and closed her eyes as if she were praying, letting out a sigh when she heard a buzzing sound and the security door clicking open. "Thank you!" She called out as she stepped into the foyer of the apartment building.

She found the door to number four and before kneeling down, Rachel looked in both directions to ensure the coast was clear. When there were no signs of any other life, she got to work on picking the lock. Being a street kid, she had picked up a thing or two even for her young age. She was a smart cookie learned quickly.

Her mouth fell open in shock when she stepped into the pristine flat. It was virtually untouched as if no one actually lived there and apart from a couple of framed photographs, there were no other personal touches. No kids toys, no books lying around. Just a few chic ornaments and the aforementioned pictures.

Rachel's eyes lit up when she saw the huge sixty five inch tv attached to the wall and she almost did a fist bump when she saw the Sky box it was attached to. She just knew that this week would be the best out of all of her eight years.

Going over to the kitchenette area of the living space, the little girl opened up the fridge. Her nose scrunched up when she saw that it was bare apart from a two pint bottle of milk, some eggs and some fruit in the draw. Shrugging, Rachel grabbed two apples and picked up the milk before going to the sofa. As any child did when they were in front of an unused TV, she grabbed the remote and laughed with glee as she turned on the television. She was ecstatic to find that this Carla woman had virtually every channel known to man. She was quick to locate the Disney channel and then proceeded to kick off her battered trainers, lifting her feet up and onto the coffee table so she was in a more comfortable position.

'I could get used to this.' She thought to herself as she giggled at something one of the characters had said on the programme she was watching.
