This story is set at the time of The Ruins of Gorlan, and Jenny is working with Master Chubb.

Master Chubb walked around the kitchen's, watching the apprentices, occasionally hitting one on the head with his ladle before giving them some advice on how to make their dish better or to correct them.

Baron Arald's beautiful wife, Sandra's, birthday was coming up and the Baron had taken up the responsibility of throwing a festival and a dance to celebrate her forty-fifth birthday.

Of course, the responsibility of the food would naturally go to Chubb and his other chefs and apprentices. Who else was it going to go to? Chubb had decided that a good way to test how far his apprentices had come was to give them a small competition. It was pretty simple really. The task was to make some desserts after all the main meals had been eaten. Chubb and two of his other most trusted chefs would decide who was the best and that apprentice would have the privilege of making the dessert for the Baron and his wife.

Not that there was much competition, Chubb thought, it was already pretty clear who's the best dish was. There was a very specific girl in his kitchens, that could brighten up anyone's day with her pretty, dazzling smile, her sparkling personality, and her just her beautiful appearance in general. To add on top of all that, her cooking and baking skills were incredible. Chubb was sure she was going to grow up to do great things.

That girl's name was Jenny.

Although Chubb would never admit it, Jenny was definitely his favourite. He was already really impressed and proud of her progress and even he couldn't help but feel happier when he was around her.

He walked over to where she was baking and looked closely at what she was making. While most of the apprentices were making one singular pie of one flavour, Jenny was mixing it up. As he watched he saw her making tarts made of apricot, berry and cherry. She also made some miniature pies of the same fruits and some mini pastries which looked delicious.

Though it was a simple dish, it was effective. Bite sized pastries like the ones Jenny was making here were very appealing to people he knew. And the different varieties of flavours would give people more choice and would give a bigger group of people a chance to enjoy it. Again, it was simple, but simple was the best most of the time, and no one else had thought of it. Yes, he thought, very good indeed.

Jenny felt someone behind her and looked up to see Master Chubb behind her, eyeing her creations.

'Oh, hello Sir. I didn't see you there,' she said smiling up at him.

'Don't mind me,' Chubb said while still studying her work, 'Just checking what you're doing is all. You get back to your work.'

Jenny nodded and went back to rolling some more pastry with flour, and kneading it with her hands. Chubb was about to turn away and continue his inspections but he just needed to ask her something.

'What made you do miniature pastries instead? They are harder after all'

Jenny shrugged. 'I don't know what Baron Arald and Lady Sandra like so I thought it would be a good idea to make a few of each. I figured if they had an assorted dessert platter it would give them freedom and choice and they would be more eager. People always like choosing their own things after all.'

Chubb was nodding as she said this. 'It's true,' he said, 'People do like choices. What you're doing here is a good idea and unique to what everyone else is doing. You're doing good Jenny. Now keep working.'

Jenny smiled at the praise. Master Chubb was her hero and getting compliments from him was all she ever wanted. The smile lit up her face and Chubb had to turn away to resist smiling back at her.

Jenny watched Chubb walk among the rest of the apprentices, wincing as his ladle smacked onto some poor kid's head, and then went back to her pastries.

Two days later

Jenny was cleaning up her countertop as Master Chubb walked up to her and asked her to come talk to him privately. It was very crowded at that time of the day so the most private area they could find at the moment was the storage cupboard but that would do, as Chubb said.

Jenny looked at Chubb expectantly, curious as to why he wanted to talk to her in private. She was worried she might have done something wrong and that she was in trouble, but she marked that off as unlikely. She hadn't done anything wrong that she could remember and Chubb didn't look angry anyway. Eventually he cleared his throat and began talking.

'Well done Jenny. Your desert was definitely the best dish we had to test and my companions and I have decided that you have the privilege of serving to the Baron and his wife. You should be very proud of yourself.'

Jenny couldn't believe it. She knew she was very talented when it came to food, but so were some of the other apprentices. As is the case most of the time, she doubted her abilities, thinking that she wasn't as good as she actually was. But now she had just received the news that she would be baking for the two highest nobles in Redmont!

'Oh thank you so much Sir! You have no idea how much of a privilege this and how much I wanted this! I won't let you down, I promise!'

Chubb regarded her, almost smiling as he replied, 'I know you won't Jenny.'

Later that day

'That's great news Jenny! Well done! I'm so happy and proud of you!' Jenny's friend Alyss said while hugging her.

That afternoon was one of the rare times when they both had breaks and could spend a little time with each other. Even if it was only an hour. Jenny had taken that opportunity to tell one of her closest friends her great news and she had been greeted with a very enthusiastic, happy and excited response.

'Thanks Alyss,' Jenny smiled at her, 'though the thought of making food for the Baron and his wife is a pretty terrifying one, I'll admit that.'

Alyss smiled at her reassuringly, 'Don't worry Jen, you'll do great. I know your skills. Baron Arald and Lady Sandra will love it, trust me.' She then looked up at the sun to check the time and notice that it was getting to be around the seventeenth hour. 'Sorry, I have to go, but hopefully I'll see you soon.'

'Yeah hopefully,' Jenny agreed, grinning, and they hugged each other warmly, kissing each other lightly on the cheeks. Then they broke apart, said one last goodbye and then walked off in opposite directions.

Two weeks later. At Lady Sandra's birthday feast.

Jenny watched from behind the kitchen door as her desert got brought out to the two high nobles at the end of the table. She was so nervous and worried that something had gone wrong with the dish. What if she forgot to add something this time? What if they didn't like it? What if they were allergic to some of the ingredients and she didn't know? What if? What if? What if?

It was too late now she realised as the Baron and Lady Sandra picked up a miniature pastry and put them in their mouths, chewing on the well made treats. Jenny held her breath, expecting the couple to spit them out at any seconds. But they didn't. Instead, as everyone else other than Jenny expected, they picked up another one and started some around to all their friends.

Jenny breathed a sigh of relief as she realised that her dish wasn't to be a total fail, as to be expected.

She felt someone's hands come around her waist, pulling her into a hug and she looked up to see Alyss smiling down at her.

'Told you, you were worried about nothing. They love it.' Alyss whispered into her ear.

Jenny didn't say anything, just watched the knights, ladies and nobles enjoy her treat. She wished more than anything in the world that her mother was here right now, and could see what her beautiful daughter had achieved. Then both Alyss and Jenny looked up and smiled as they heard Baron Arald exclaim:

'Compliments to the chef!'

Alright so this was my first ever thing I have ever written and posted and I honestly just want 100% honest feedback. I just generally want to know what I need to work on and what is good about the story.

Jenny is honestly one of my favourite characters, I just love her so much. All I want to do is just hug her. She just seems so huggable!

Anyways, I'm going to try and update on these one-shots as much as I can, hopefully everyday and I'm gonna try to include characters that we don't hear that much from.

See y'all later.
