002: Mystery
"Gilan was a mystery. Although many would consider the tall ranger outgoing, sarcastic and funny, those who knew him had stopped trying to unravel and delve into the complex enigma that was Gilan Davidson. They had gotten used to his strange habits and tendency to broach weird topic conversations. They missed his sunny nature and his wide grin when he wasn't around. I have had the pleasure of meeting, knowing and loving Gil. From the second we met I knew that I could decipher him. That I would be the one to cherish him for all his random quirks and his goofy personality. That's if he would have me. And for a while I didn't think he felt the same way but by some miracle, he became mine. He was devoted to his work, to his family but he made sure I knew that I was always first, that I would always come first. And I loved him for it, dearly and there's some part of me that will never stop loving him."
Jenny looked up from her place at the pedestal into the crowd of tear stained faces, finding comfort in the people situated at the front of the crowd. Will, who gave her a watery smile. Horace, Cassandra and Maddie, who had taken time off ruling the kingdom and a rangers duties to ride down to Redmont to be here. Jenny could almost feel the presence of those long lost as she breathed in deeply, her best friend, Alyss, she could imagine her now, head on Will's shoulder. Halt and Pauline, arms wrapped around each other as they grieved for the boy they knew and loved. Crowley who was standing silently, saluting his grave, a tear falling from his cheek. She looked further into the distance, momentarily forgetting about her speech, if one could even call it that, 'speech' sounded too hopeful. But there was no hope here, he was truly and utterly dead. She caught at the corner of her eye various figures clocked in green and grey, coming to mourn their commandment.
"Some would say he was complicated, a puzzle even. But to me I could read him like a book, I knew him almost better than I know myself. Ironically to the busy and chaotic life he lived as a ranger commandment, he died in his sleep, peacefully. I want you to remember this, although he has breathed his final breaths he lives on, his memories live on, in here." she touched her heart. "So you can cry but also smile, smile for the happiness he brought into our lives, smile for the jokes he told because we all know he told many, and smile for the complex mystery that was and forever will be Gilan Davidson."
