"Please, if you don't mind," said Asuna as she confirmed the information. "Yes, that's correct. No, that's it. Thank you so much."
With a sigh, she ended the call and pocketed her cell phone. Leaning against the desk in the teacher's lounge, she nibbled at her thumb nail a moment as she thought. Life was so different now that she didn't have her quirk. She was still trying to get used to not reflexively using it. Even if she tried, there was no use. The quirk was erased. Without thought, she lightly traced over right shoulder, her fingers lightly touching the fabric of her blouse.
"Oh!" A voice caught her attention, and her head quickly turned in the direction of its owner. "Sorry, I didn't realize you were here." He spoke softly as he walked past her towards the direction of the table. Her hazel orbs followed his stride, but they quickly averted their attention when she caught him locking eyes with her.
It's fine. I was just leaving anyways," she whispered as she gathered her folders. "I've got to get these down to the office. I'll see you later."
Asuna sighed again after entering the hallway. She mostly did so to herself, as she always felt timid around him. However, she wanted to get to know him better. He was never mean or rude; he just seemed disinterested. But he always appeared that way. Perhaps it was his personality, but the man looked like he could sleep for days.
The prior relationship she had left last year still lingered on her like a second skin. She was still working through the trauma she believed was 'love.'
"Got any plans this weekend?" her best friend asked as Asuna entered the office.
Smiling softly, knowing they both knew the answer, Asuna still only shook her head, her crimson hair dancing around her face.
"Me?" Asuna asked as she began filing away the folders.
"Worth asking," her best friend shrugged. "Besides, you're always at the apartment. If you weren't there, I'd think something was wrong," she laughed.
Asuna just shook her head again, reaching for her purse from the bottom cubby of the desk. "I'll see you when you get back home, Kim," Asuna said as she grabbed her tan long coat from the coat rack.
After getting wrapped in her coat, Asuna headed out the door and to the train station. She worked on more filing and sorting on the ride to her stop by her apartment. When she finally arrived home she immediately started to shed the coat and her shoes. She tossed her keys by the table near the door and laid herself across the couch. She thought back to the phone call she received while still at work and frowned. Not only was her divorce completely finalized, she found out that her ex husband was out on the streets again. Because of his release, she was informed especially due to the violence he had inflicted on her the last time they were in a room together.
She shook her head free of the thoughts. It was then she started to play with the ends of her hair. Again she felt her heart sink. It used to be so long and so beautiful. She felt butchered and empty. Sure, her hair could grow back and was a necessary sacrifice to be sure she survived. However, losing her quirk too felt like another blow. Not only was she different on the outside, the new her felt like she was missing a huge piece of who she was. A vital piece of who she was.
Groaning, she sat herself up and reached over to the coffee table. She found herself flipping through the channels til she decided to settle on a news network on scene at another press conference over the raid.
"Stay out of the spot light," she mumbled to herself as she walked to the kitchen. Cursing to herself, she slammed a cabinet door closed. All of her ramen packets were gone. She didn't feel like cooking a big meal. After all, she didn't need the extra energy from it all anyways. Shaking away the thought, she slipped her shoes back on after snatching up her wallet and keys. After locking the apartment door, she walked to the small corner store.
The bell announcing her entrance into the store lobby, she gave a small wave to the man working the counter. She wondered around a moment before finally deciding to head to the aisle that held the ramen packets. Looking through, she randomly grabbed a few different ones before heading up to the counter.
"Oh, hi Aizawa," she smiled softly looking at him, "Didn't think I would see you around here."
He looked at her raising his eyebrow. He always frequented this store. So why was he just now running into her?
"This is my go to place. It's closest to my apartment," he told her quietly.
Looking at him curiously, Asuna started to put the pieces together.
"The Summit apartments," she asked, motioning in the direction of her apartments.
He only nodded, realizing that they in fact lived in the same complex.
"Yep. Didn't realize we were neighbors," he smirked as he walked up to the counter to check out.
After finishing her transaction she caught up to him by the exit doors. "Sorry about earlier... Dai is out," she mumbled walking aside her coworker. However, when he quickly stopped and looked at her that she noticed how his expression changed to anger.
"What do you mean he is out," he asked through gritted teeth.
Seeing his reaction Asuna took a step back. "I don't know... they just informed me that he was on release. I didn't get a lot of information about it all..." she trailed off as she resumed her stride.
"That's bullshit, and you know it," he told her firmly as he adjusted his hold on his grocery bag.
All Asuna could do was nod. She knew it was. But there wasn't much she could do. She had the restraining order and she had the phone call to be given the heads up about his whereabouts. Silently she walked with Aizawa on the way back to the apartments. He entered the elevator and went to press the button for his floor, only to realize she had already pressed it.
"Seriously," she asked, curiosity getting the better of her.
Shrugging, Aizawa faced forward. Asuna felt her heart racing as she stood there, begging her mind to think of anything to talk to him about.
"Well, paths cross for a reason I suppose," she mumbled, adjusting her own grocery bag, watching the numbers climb as the elevator kept going higher.
He simply nodded. What she didn't know, was that while she wasn't watching him, he was watching her. Seeing how she was doing. He knew that raid took not only a physical toll on her body, but it took a huge toll on her mentally. She tried so hard to put up this facade that she was fine and everything was going good. But he saw her struggling when she thought no one was seeing her give herself a break. She felt her body tense as she turned some to see Aizawa staring straight ahead of them at the doors. It was a ding that signaled they were finally on their floor.
Once the doors open, she quickly exited the small compartment. Embarrassing herself was something she never wants to do but seemed to have succeeded in. "I'll see you at work," she shouted heading to her door and unlocking it quickly. Once inside, she leaned her back against the door and sighed. She wished her heart would settle that it would stop beating so rapidly.
"It wasn't even a real conversation," she muttered to herself as she headed to the kitchen.
