The weight on her belly was the first thing Nami noticed when she woke up. She wanted to know what the object was that was lying on top of her, but she was having trouble pulling herself away from sleep and her eyelids wouldn't open. Whatever was on top of her wasn't so heavy that it caused her pain, instead it was a soothing weight that she only knew from weighted blankets.
Nami had almost disappeared back into the land of dreams when the weight shifted on top of her.
She slowly opened her eyes and the first thing she saw was the old straw hat covering Luffy's face.
The young captain slept soundly and the fact that he was using his navigator as a pillow didn't seem to bother him. He had thrown his legs over Usopp, who in turn had chosen Sanji's butt as a pillow. The cook, on the other hand, was cuddling with one of Zoro's legs, who shared the only pillow with Nami. Cards and seashells lay scattered around the center of the circle they had formed.
Nami rubbed her eyes as she tried to recall the events of last night. She looked around the room, noticing two things. 1) They were in the kitchen. The dining table was moved to one corner and the chairs to the other so that the group could sit on the floor in the middle. 2) They somehow managed to put in the tangerine trees. They took up quite a lot of space and partially blocked one of the doors.
Why did they bring the trees in?
Oh yeah.
The storm.
Luffy had noticed a strong storm approaching them yesterday afternoon and everyone helped prepare the ship for a turbulent journey. This meant either tying up all loose items or bringing them under deck. To lower the sails and bring Nami's beloved tangerine to safety. Afterward, everyone gathered in the kitchen.
Sanji had prepared some snacks and drinks and Usopp had found a brand new deck of cards.
Just playing like that was too boring for everyone, but they didn't have any money for the game and Sanji refused to use food as a wager. Someone had then brought out mussels from somewhere. Most likely Luffy. Definitely Luffy.
Nami knew that Luffy was in a bad mood when woken up, so she had to wake the young captain indirectly and shift the blame onto someone else. To do this, she just had to wake up the swordsman and wait for the chain reaction to follow.
The navigator pulled a feather sticking out of the pillow and tickled Zoro's nose with it. She had to twist her arm quite a bit to avoid accidentally waking Luffy with her movement.
At first, he just wrinkled his nose before trying to slam the feather away, which resulted in him accidentally hitting himself in the face. Luckily, this was enough to drag the swordsman out of the dreamland.
Nami pretended to sleep while Zoro slowly came to consciousness and became aware of the situation.
He stared at the sleeping chef for a moment before attempting to jerk his leg away.
Sanji didn't wake up immediately, but simply gave an annoyed grunt and continued to cuddle Zoro's leg. Zoro tried to pull away once more, but Sanji's grip was too strong. But fortunately, this finally woke the chef up.
Sanji, who was still half asleep, looked up to see Zoro looking down at him expressionlessly. The wheels in Sanji's head began to turn and he let go of his leg like he had accidentally touched a hot stove.
The hasty movement threw Usopp off Sanji's ass and he landed roughly on the wooden floor, ultimately waking him up.
The sniper threw Luffy's legs away without really knowing what he was doing, and Nami was 100% sure that this hasty movement would be enough to wake the sleeping captain, but he just made a small noise of annoyance and continued to sleep happily.
However, Nami still had a small glimmer of hope and continued to pretend to be asleep.
She could hear Sanji and Zoro arguing as usual, as well as cupboards being opened and closed and pots and pans being put down. Apparently, Sanji felt that he could make breakfast and insult the swordsman at the same time.
Usopp continued to sit on the floor and rubbed his eyes in annoyance before looking at the rest of the (supposedly sleeping) crew.
He placed a hand on Luffy's knee and gave it a firm shake. Now he had to wake up!
Luffy groaned in annoyance, rolled over onto his stomach, wrapped his arms around Nami, and hid his face in her stomach. Not only did her plan completely backfire, but now she didn't even really have the desire to push him away anymore. The way he cuddled up to her like she was a giant stuffed animal, was just too adorable. Maybe she could stay like that for a while.
Nami must have fallen asleep again because when she regained consciousness she had Luffy's straw hat over her face and a blanket had been placed over her. She sat up and pushed the straw hat back so that she was wearing it on her head.
"Look who's finally awake!"
The navigator looked in the direction the voice came from and saw Zoro sitting at the counter. He was holding a half-empty beer mug and on the table next to him was a plate of sandwiches and a tangerine.
"What time is it?" Nami asked before yawning loudly.
"You overslept breakfast, but it's still too early for lunch," Zoro explained and took a sip of his beer. "I was tasked with protecting your food from Luffy."
Nami stood up and folded the blanket. "Since when have you been taking orders from Sanji?"
"I don't," Zoro took another sip. "You have one of the most important positions on this ship. You need your energy."
Nami sat down next to the swordsman and started devouring her sandwiches.
The two of them were sitting together in a comfortable silence in the kitchen with Zoro having refilled his mug once more and Nami starting to peel her tangerine when Usopp suddenly burst in.
"Guys! You have to see this!"
As quickly as he appeared, he was gone, leaving the two pirates both surprised and confused. But curiosity took over and the two followed the excited sniper.
On the deck, they saw Luffy hanging over the ship's railing with Sanji holding him by the waist so he didn't fall overboard. Usopp stood nearby and watched Luffy try to fish something out of the water.
"What's going on here?" Nami asked.
"Apparently we weren't the only ones who sailed through the storm, but unfortunately they weren't as lucky as us," explained Sanji, who now had to support himself with one leg on the railing to avoid falling over with his captain.
"There are dozens of things floating around here! Most of it is pretty useless, but there's a box floating around that looks like it could have something good," Usopp added without taking his eyes off the water.
"I got it!" Luffy exclaimed and retracted his rubber arms. In his hands, he held a square chest.
Sanji let go of his waist and patted him on the shoulders and laughed. Usopp took the box from him and took it to one of the tables they had put out again.
"Good job, Captain," Nami praised and handed Luffy the peeled tangerine that she still held in her hand.
"Thanks!"
The Straw Hat Pirates all gathered around the table and stared at the chest together.
"What do you think will be in it?" Usopp asked.
"I'm hoping for jewelry!" Nami exclaimed.
"Hopefully money with which we can buy provisions since someone raided our storage room again!" As Sanji spoke, he looked directly at Luffy, who was innocently nibbling on his tangerine.
"I've seen a box like that before! This is almost the same as the one the Gum-Gum fruit was in!"
Everyone looked at Luffy.
"How much is a devil fruit worth?"
"They are quite rare and therefore should be worth a lot."
"Shanks wasn't too thrilled when I ate his."
"Guys!"
"What do devil fruits even taste like?"
"Guys!"
"Horribly! It's like eating a bad plum."
"Guys!"
"And you still ate the whole thing?"
"Why not?"
"GUYS!"
Everyone looked over at Usopp, who had secretly opened the chest while the team was talking. No one could see what was inside because the sniper was blocking the view. He took something out but kept his back to the others.
"Now show us, Usopp! Don't make it so exciting!" Sanji shouted.
Usopp turned around and in his hands, he held a teddy bear.
A light brown teddy bear with a huge pink bow tied around its neck and a pink heart sewn onto its chest.
"The treasure is a teddy bear!"
