Hello loves,

I know it's a long time ago that I updated my other story. And I still have so many ideas that are spinning around in my head. And a lot of them are already typed down but need the last finishing touches. Sometimes it's just hard to find the right words. I think you know what I mean. Especially if your not writing in your mother tongue.

But that being said, this is another story, that I kept in my files for a long time. I tend to go over my stories a multiple amount of times. So much it's getting ridiculous.

So I take a leap of faith and upload this One-shot and hope that you can enjoy this just as much as my other story.

They thought of everything. No one knows. No one even suspects a thing. Everyone at work is blissfully unaware of their new status.

But what they haven't thought off was their families. They never thought that they could intervene. Who would've thought that their families would try and play matchmaker? And by planning a family camping weekend? Are they talking about the same people?

Bradford and Claire Meade decided that it was time to spend some time together with the Suarez Family. Because they really want to get to know each other and say 'Thank you' for all they've done for them. And Hilda couldn't be happier about it. Well, to Betty it all sounds suspicious. She knew that they were up to something. They can say whatever they want. Betty won't believe a single word they say.

So when she finds herself at a campground with the Meades and Suarez's buzzing around and putting together the tents, she gets increasingly paranoid. And watches their families work hand in hand in anticipation.

'Hey, you ok, mami?', Hilda comes over to her, Bobby following her on the heel.

'What? Oh, uhm, sure. I'm fine. I'm just surprised how smooth everything goes. And that no one has complained so far. Especially you'

'Ai, it maybe wasn't my idea. Okay. But I like it. I can be the forest queen for a weekend. You know, like in Snow White. Who is the prettiest of them all? It's you majesty', Hilda says dramatically, clutching her hands to her heart and fakes fainting. Bobby standing behind her shakes his head and pretends to catch her. They are a match made in heaven.

'I am pretty sure it goes 'Who is the fairest of them all...'. And you do realize that the mirror says 'It's you majesty, but...'. The princess is the fairest of them all in the end. Not the Queen', Betty says slow, shakes her head and smiles mischievously.

'Pff, I don't care. Kill the princess', Hilda huffs out, while taking her backpack and starts to walk over to one tent.

'Spoken like a true Queen', Betty takes a quick bow and keeps observing the rest of their group. This weekend is going to be interesting. For sure.

Don't get her wrong, of course one day in the very near future they would've told their families. And they would've hoped that they will be happy for them and get along great. Cause that's what she wants, what Daniel wants. A combined, huge family, where everyone gets along and enjoys spending time with each other. Because this is it. This is not just another relationship. No, this is important and significant. It's the beginning of the end. Well, the most beautiful end if you ask her. But still. This feels..., how can she put it, ...weird.

'It's nice, isn't it?', Bradford all of a sudden stands next to her. My goodness, where do they all come from? He takes in the view around him. The busy campground, the edge of the forest on one side and the view over the lake on the other. His smile is peaceful, almost light. It's the most genuine smile she ever saw on him.

'What exactly?', maybe playing dumb is the best way to tackle this weekend. Daniel and her still weren't able to talk in private about a strategy. Til that she will lay low.

'Everything. The view is one thing, but being here with our families. It's nice to spend this weekend together. Get to know each other better. You and your family did a lot for mine. I won't be able to ever repay you. But I would like to try', his wistful smile is directed at Betty. Shines with an underlaying mischief.

'You don't have to repay us, Mr. Meade', the blush creeps up her cheeks. She feels almost bare in front of him. As if he can read her mind and see into her soul. As if he knows more then he admits.

'I know, and I have a feeling I won't ever be able too', he throws a last little smile in her direction, nods one time and is off to help his wife move their things into their tent.

Two years ago, when he stood in front of the altar with Wilhelmina, he realized what a huge mistake he was making. And ever since that, he is a changed man. He took an 180 degree turn and moved into the other direction. He build up a faithful and loving relationship with his wife. Who's beyond happy to have her Brad back. He actually managed to mend the fences with Daniel. They are closer then ever. Though it's still hard for Daniel sometimes. Believing that his father really did change. Sometimes he wakes up in the middle of the night, thinking that everything was a dream and his father would be back to his cold-hearted ruthless ways. But he's not. He accepted Alexis for who she is and is a somewhat father figure for Tyler. When DJ turned up on their porch, he opened his arms wide and welcomed him into his house. Literally. After finding out that DJ was Alexis son, they lived at the Meade Mansion. Getting to know each other. It was great and Betty couldn't be happier for Daniel. She always wished for him to have a healthy and normal family. And he finally has.

'Hey, earth to Betty. Are you still with us?', Hilda is flicking her hand in front of her face.

'Sorry, I was just thinking', she softly shakes her head and sorts through her thoughts. Stores them away for later.

'We just talked about the sleeping arrangements. We made a mistake. We haven't really thought about it. But there is a teeny tiny problem. Well, if you and Daniel don't agree to our suggestion'

'What is it?'

'We don't have enough tents. Well, we do have enough tents, but first we put every couple down for their own tent. But that will only leave two more tents for you, Justin, Daniel, DJ and Austin. Who's going to catch up to us tomorrow morning', oh she's good. Hilda is really trying to sell this. And she does. If Betty wasn't suspicious, she wouldn't think a single thing by her suggestion. But they are messing with the wrong people. She will take charge. If they think that they will make it easy for them, then they are sorely mistaken.

'Oh, it's ok. Justin, Austin and I can share a tent. I'm sure Austin wouldn't mind. And I don't think that Daniel minds sharing one with DJ. They barely see each other. I know that they won't mind, like at all', and with that she throws a brilliant smile in the very quite and very disappointed round and silently celebrates her triumph over their matchmaking skills.

They all got accustomed. Stowed away their backpacks and made their beds for the next few nights. Putting the camping chairs around the fireplace, Ignacio already got out pots and pans. Is ready to start preparing for dinner.

'Who wants to go and collect some firewood? At least enough for today. Tomorrow we can go and collect some more', Ignacio chops up some peppers and tomatoes. He really wants to do this the old fashioned way and is already busy.

'Daniel and I are happy to go. You guys did all the building up'

'I did the building up as well', how oblivious can a person be?

'Yes, you did. Hooray. I'm proud of you. But now your picking up firewood with me. Or do you expect your dad to go?', she whispers hoarsely and throws a meaningful look in Daniel's direction. Motions with a small nod in the direction of the forest. And now he understands immediately.

'Oh, uh, yeah, she's right. You all should rest. So, uhm, yeah, let's go. We won't take long, promise'

'Wow, subtle Daniel', Betty whispers under her breath next to him while they both walk slowly backwards, smiling a reassuring smile at their families and soon are gone.

Somewhere in the forest, Daniel already has the arms full with wood, but Betty keeps going further into it. Keeps picking up branch after branch.

'I think we're safe here. They shouldn't be able to see or hear us', he puts the wood down on the ground, dusts away the dirt from his shirt and looking up, sees her standing there.

Leaning against a tree, her head cocked to one side, she softly smiles at him. Admires how his jeans and shirt accentuate all of his best features. And when he walks up to her, she follows his every move with her eyes.

'Hey', his arms slowly encircle her waist and pull her into his body. 'I missed you'

'It's been what? Ten hours since we were together?', she bites her lower lip, tries to keep herself from smiling like a lunatic. Her hands softly glide over his arms and shoulders.

'Yeah, pathetic I know', he buries his nose in her hair. Takes in her fruity-coconut scent that always manages to calm him down. Knowing she's close and in his arms. Warm and soft and oh so willingly reciprocating.

'I was thinking cute, but alright. And if missing me makes you pathetic, then we both are. Cause I missed you too, terribly. I'm glad you're here. I would've gone crazy. A whole weekend without you. And I don't even have my phone. Papi took it from me the second I arrived in Queens', she places a wet kiss on his neck, buries her nose there for a second, before moving up and placing a row of featherlight kisses along his jaw.

'God, we should tell them. I'm not sure if I can spend the weekend with you, without being this close to you', his hand cups the back of her head, slowly moves her face up.

'I have a strange feeling that we might be the main reason for this camping trip anyway'

'Mmmh, me too'

'Let's see what they come up with. I would love to see how they're going to play matchmaker', standing up on tiptoes she bumps her nose into his.

'So we lay low? Sneak away now and then for a few minutes? Is that really what you're suggesting here?', his lopsided grin an almost constant feature whenever they're together.

'Tell me that you wouldn't enjoy sneaking around with me like this?', her playful smile too cute. She crunches up her nose. Circles their tips against each others.

'Oh I would. I just thought it's the perfect opportunity to tell them. We have everyone in one place', his thumb draws gentle circles on her cheek, tracing her soft rosé blush.

'We have the whole weekend. We fool them the majority of the time. And come Monday and everyone packs up, disappointed that there matchmaking didn't work, we tell them the great news and that they should've never bothered. Just imagine their shocked faces. It's going to be pure bliss and so satisfying. And I kind of really do like to spend this weekend with everyone', she's almost pleading with him. Though she doesn't need to. He would do anything for her. As long as it makes her happy. And fooling around with her, sneaking away for a quick make out session here and there? Well, he's already signed up.

'Alright, we'll have it your way, but come Monday we will tell them the truth?'

'Promise', and snaking her arms around his neck, she closes the last remaining inch between them. Takes his lips in a hot and searching kiss.

And Daniel's lost. God, he loves her so much. Since they started dating and took that final step in their relationship, he is like a puppet on a string. Where she goes, he follows.

'I knew something was up', Betty pushes Daniel away from her as quick as possible.

'Hmpf', the air softly leaves his lungs when he bumps against a tree.

'Justin..., what are you doing back here? Aren't you supposed to stay with the group?', Betty wipes her sweaty hands along her pants.

'Spill or I'm gonna go back to the group and tell everyone what I just stumbled over', Justin hisses out, hands on his hips.

'What? I have no idea what you're talking about'

'1..., 2... , 3... ,Mo...', Betty claps her hand over his mouth. Nearly strangles him to make him shut up.

'Ok, ok. So maybe we're already together', she releases Justin, who stumbles forward. And rubbing over his mouth he looks shocked at the both of them.

'We usually are', Daniel says darkly, before turning around to Betty and giving her a mock-scolding look. 'By the way, thanks babe. Loved how you pushed me as far away from you as possible'

'Sorry, I didn't mean too. I was just so surprised that I didn't know how to properly react', she smiles softly at him, biting her lower lip.

'Excuse me, my offer to expose you still stands. I want details'

'What kind of details. We're together. What more could you possibly want to know?'

'How long are you together? Why don't we know anything about it? And if that's true, then why the hell are we camping?'

'Woah, ok, you have questions. I get it. So, we didn't want to tell anyone as long as we were still in the maybe-amazing-relationship-maybe -just-great-friendship-phase. It's not easy to take a friendship to the next level, okay? We didn't want to ruin everything by taking this to fast. So we took our time and didn't say anything'

'AB, how long?'

'Eight weeks', she says reluctantly and looks down on her boots. Her crunched up nose way too cute.

'EIGHT WEEKS?!'

'Ssssshhhhh', Betty claps her hand over Justin's mouth again and looks around if anyone heard them. Listens for any kind of sounds that could signal that someone is coming their way. 'Could you keep it down, please?'

'Eight weeks, AB? You are joking right? You want to tell me that you weren't sure if this works for two months? The way you two were wrapped around each other tells me a totally different story', he whispers accusingly.

'No, maybe the first three to four weeks were like a little finding-and-figuring-out-phase, ok? But after that we were pretty sure'

'Then why?'

'Because it was peaceful. I know the second I tell you guys what's going on, Hilda asks me all kinds of weird and suggestive questions. And will drop one raunchy comment after the other. Everyone will have their eyes and ears on us. We didn't want that. At least not in the beginning. We needed to figure everything out on our own, ok?'

'And the Meades? Why haven't you told them? They can keep a secret, can't they?'

'Are you joking? My mom will shout it from the rooftops. She's already constantly asking about Betty. Believe me, she would creep around my office, always asking if I blew it. And threaten to disinherit me If I do. It would be so annoying'

'That Queen slays', Justin mumbles under his breath. Watches Daniel slinging his arm around Betty's shoulders. She melts into his side, looks adoringly up at him. They're smiles full of love. And he has to admit that they look great together. A perfect match.

'We just enjoyed spending our time together. We know that we have to tell everyone. Sooner than later. And if we would've known that they plan a whole weekend to play matchmaker...? Come on, you know I would've tried to prevent it, right?'

'I guess, and I will keep you're secret and play along, but you need to tell them at the end of this weekend. Everyone will be happy for you. We were just worried that you both don't see what's in front of you. That's all'

'We do, Justin. I promise we do', Betty smiles lovingly at Daniel. Who bends down to her and Betty softly cups his neck and anticipates the slow kiss.

'Ugh, I should've known that you two would be just as bad as Bobby and mom. At least you don't play the ten tenors and share a plate of spaghetti'

'Sorry...?', if only Daniel would know what Justin is talking about half the time.

'Forget it, UD'

'And don't worry we plan to tell them at the end of this weekend. But we wanted to fool them for a little while. They kind of deserve it'

'Well, I'm in. I will help you, but...'

'Yes, come Monday, we come clean with everything'

'Ok'

'Hey, by the way, why are you back here anyway?'

'Grandpa sends me. We're waiting for the firewood', Justin states sassily. His arched eyebrows sitting so high on his forehead. The look he's giving them full of annoyance.

'Oh, shoot. How long were we gone? Come on, pick up the wood and get back. I guess, they're suspicious?', Betty picks up a small pile and starts walking into the direction of the campground. When she all of a sudden stumbles over an overgrown root and falls forward.

Daniel realizes too late what is happening and can't catch her in the last possible second. Laying in a heap on the ground, her small whimper sounds awfully painful.

'Hng, son of a bitch. That hurts', she cusses loud. And Daniel, who was already bending down, stops in his tracks and stands back up. Shocked and delighted.

'You did not just say that?'

'Yes, I did', when she tries to stand up, she sinks back down on the ground. Clenched teeth's and a deep groan on her lips. Daniel rushes to her side and helps her up. Slings his arm around her waist to hold her steady.

'Justin, are you okay with taking the wood?'

'Sure, I would love if this outfit gets ruined. Gives me a reason to dumb it after this weekend', he throws one look at his polyester-reeking camping-outfit his mother got for him, before picking up the wood. Watches how they slowly move forward. 'Don't take this the wrong way, but are you two good? I would like to go ahead and bring the wood back to the campground. Then grandpa can start on dinner. And I can tell them what just happened. Now you at least have a cover story. Good thinking, AB', seeing Daniels little nod, he moves ahead and throws one last look in their direction before moving around the next corner. The last thing he sees is his aunts annoyed eye roll.

'Sometimes I hate my clumsiness, you know?', her hand clutches his shoulder, holds on for dear life.

'I love your clumsiness. It's cute on a normal daily basis. But not when you hurt yourself. I give you that', he's literally hunched over. Their height difference being too big. He can't possibly walk comfortably.

'Hey, are you ok? This can't be comfortable for you. I can try to hop my way back on my own'

'Are you nuts? I'm not gonna leave you now'

'You won't have to leave me, you only need to let go of me. I'm just saying. I feel bad. I don't want you to suffer, too'

'Alright', and laying his arm in the hollow of her knees, he swiftly takes her up into his arms. Makes her yelp out in shock and throw her arms around his neck.

'Daniel, let me down. You can't carry me'

'Yes, I can. This is way more comfortable. For both of us. And it does give me an excuse to have you as close to me as possible'

'You are incorrigible', her cute snicker pleasantly light. 'You know, this could be awfully romantic'

'Could..., not is?'

'If I didn't hurt my foot and we wouldn't walk towards our blissfully unaware families', thinking for a second, she all of a sudden smiles mischievously. Lets her hand glide over his neck and shoulders and places a soft kiss under his ear. 'Now, if we were alone? And maybe not in a forest, but say..., at your or my apartment? I'd say this would be very romantic. And would definitely get appreciated. In the most pleasurable way I know to'

He stops in his tracks and looks down at her. Sees the glint in her eyes. She's playing with him. Knowing well enough, that he will imagine in excruciating detail how pleasurable it could be. Well, after she said that? Definitely how it will be, once their back into town and at one of their apartments. Damn her. She looks and acts so innocent. But she's anything but. It's one of his favourite things about her. She's the picture perfect woman when they have company. Lovely, funny, kind, absolutely beautiful, tasteful and has impeccable manners. But once their alone? She leaves him speech- and breathless more often than anybody would think.

'Thank you, now we have a problem'

'What do you mean?', her hand slowly pushes into his collar and softly glides over his back. His skin is so hot under her fingertips.

'Don't play innocent. You know exactly what I'm talking about. I can't walk back to the campground sporting a hard on. What would they think?', he walks over to a fallen tree and plops down. Places Betty safely down next to him.

'Is your jeans not loose enough? Do you really think they will notice?', she's on him again, throws her legs over his. If he thinks he can get rid of her, he's mistaken. Big time. This is their alone time. She will make the most of it.

'I don't know. Do you usually notice?', his arms sling around her on autopilot. As much as he wants to stay rational. He can't. Not when it comes to her. So when his lips sought out her neck and suck on her skin, it's completely out of his control.

'That depends', her breathy voice sounds so delicious. How much he would love to stay with her like this.

'On what?', her hands escape under the hem of his shirt. Sensually circles his belly button with one finger.

'How loose or tight your pants are, duh?', her hands ghost over the hem of his jeans. His muscles constrict at the thought alone and breathing turns incredible hard.

But this is torture. He knows that they can't do anything. So he needs to gain his control back. As much as he would love to stay here, with her in his arms. He simply can't. So he detaches his lips from her incredible soft skin and takes in her fruity scent one last time. Burying his nose in her hair, he pulls her as close to him as possible. Her hands get efficiently trapped between them. She has no choice. She can't move.

'Let me calm down a bit and then we have to go back. Otherwise we won't be able to keep it a secret', running a hand over her spine, he feels her shiver in his arms.

'I know', she takes a deep breath in and pushes forcefully back. 'Okay, give me some space or I'll go crazy'

They sit for a few short minutes on the tree, before they get up again and start walking back to the campground. And when he walks around the next curve, the forest opens up and the campground moves into view.

'Betty, what happened', Claire immediately jogs up to them. Touches her shoulder softly.

'My clumsiness stroke again. It's bad in a normal environment, but here? With all the roots and branches? I'm lucky it didn't happen earlier'

'You should bring her to the ER, Daniel. Just to make sure', Bradford suggests.

'What? ER? Don't be ridiculous. I just stumbled over a root. I'm sure if I just let it rest for a while, everything will be fine'

'I don't know, Mija. You remember six years ago?'

'Dad, six years ago I fell on concrete and broke my arm. I'm not going to have a broken foot from falling into grass'

'I don't know, AB. Daniel said that at first, your foot really got stuck', Justin quips in from the side. Flicking some transparent lint from his polyester trousers.

'I'm not going to the ER. I will sit down, hold it up and let it rest', Betty stubbornly says. There was no arguing with her when she's like that. Daniel knows that out of first hand experience.

'I will look at your foot, Betty. Maybe I can see if there is something wrong. It could be just a sprained ankle. Most times it hurts worse then a broken foot', Elena already has her first aid kit at hand. Pops out two Tylenols for her to take and is ready to examine her foot.

'Thank you, Daniel, I think you can let me down now', he softly adjusts her in his arms and puts her down on one of the chairs. Hilda immediately got a second chair for her to put her right foot up. 'Thank you, Hilda, Elena'

'You're welcome, let's see what I can do', Elena carefully takes off her boot and sock, examines her foot and moves it in any direction. It hurts. Like really bad. She sucks in a deep breath and bites down on her teeth. And it's not just that, no, it already looks like a pen exploded on her. It's green and blue and begins to colour her skin in a deep purple. 'Betty, I'm not sure. I fear that it might be broken'

'What? No, no, no. It's nothing. It doesn't even hurt that bad', she shakes her head violently, doesn't want to cut their time short.

'Yeah, no one believes you. I'm a nurse, Betty. A good one. And you are in pain. And I do believe it's not just a sprained ankle'

'Ok, can't you just put a wrap around it?'

'Sure, I can do that, but if it's broken, a doctor has to examine your foot and see if it needs to get adjusted. And you will need to have a cast, Betty'

'If it's even broken. Come on, Elena. You could do the wrap for now. And if it gets worse this weekend I promise I will say something and we can go to the ER', and with that it's settled. Betty is stubborn. They all know that. There is no arguing with her. So they do what she says and hope for the best.

Betty took the pain meds Elena gave her and sat still the rest of the evening. The wrap Elena put on really helps too. It's steadying her ankle. And she really hopes it's nothing. Because she can feel the pain getting worse. The medication doesn't even take the edge off. But as long as she can take it, she won't go back into the city. She wants to spend the time with their families.

Cause this is great. Everyone has such a lovely time. It feels like they all sort of found their match. Alexis, Hilda and Amanda are discussing this years In'N'Outs with Justin. While Philippe, Alexis French boyfriend, talks to Tyler, Daniel and Bobby about basketball. Mr. and Mrs. Meade are in deep conversation with her Papi and Elena. DJ is already down in his tent. The time difference was too much for him. And Betty? She just takes it all in. Enjoys the peacefulness off the soft humming sound of the conversations flowing around her.

'That was awfully heroic and romantic, mami. The way Daniel carried you out of the woods and onto the campground. He literally saved your life. I mean, damn, that man is strong. Did you see his arms? They're made out of pure muscles, mami. I tell you, if I was you? I would thank him properly. Over and over again', Hilda sensually whispers directly into her ear. Makes her jump up in her chair, before settling down again, with a soft sigh on her lips.

'Whoa, you scared me, Hilda. Don't sneak up on me like that'

'Did you even listen to what I said?', Hilda grabs the chair next to her and drags it closer. Plops down into it, while throwing her hair over her shoulder.

'Yes, I did. And I believe that you will tell me in excruciating detail, how you think I should say thank you?'

'Mmmh, I'd love to, mami. At first you should sneak away with him. Maybe back into the forest. Where no one sees or hears you...'

'I can't really sneak around right now', Betty interrupts.

'...then you should play innocent and coy. You know, that really works for you. The guys are crazy about it...'

'You mean the non-existent guys I have lined up for an imaginary date?'

'...then tell him how much you appreciate what he's done for you. How much you would like to pay him back. In any kind of way. Make it sound suggestive. And look up through your eyelashes. That's a really effective way to flirt with a guy. You could maybe bite down on your lower lip...'

'You mean the lip I bruised during the fall?'

'...and when he flirts back, you slowly move in on him. Let your hands glide over his muscular frame and arms. And when he doesn't expect it, you jump his bones...'

'With the same injured foot I can't even stand on?'

'...kiss him like there's no tomorrow. Just get it on. Believe me, he won't know what'll hit him...'

'Probably me, being my clumsy old self'

'...and you know. I don't have to tell you how to have sex, right? That one you know?'

'Oh, please freshen up my memory. It's such a long time ago', Hilda doesn't even notice Betty's sarcastic tone. She simply takes a deep breath and keeps painting this ridiculous scenario. Like that would ever happen.

'...run your hands under his shirt and slowly take it off. And start kissing him all over. If he doesn't like that, just nibble on his neck, while he's working on your awful sweater...'

'Ai...'

'...and then it just depends. Do you want to get rid of everything? Or are you good with getting rid of enough clothes and simply rearrange a few to get it on?'

'Hilda?!', Betty's outburst puts a damper on the other conversations. Looking at her weird and curious. 'Sorry'

'What? Both can be very hot. Though that would be your first time together. What would you prefer for a first time?', Hilda says low under her breath so that no one hears.

'Definitely a different environment. Not that we would ever do that in the first place. Do you really think I would ever do all you just said?', her eyebrows are high on her forehead, the expectant look reeking of disappointment.

'Yeah, you're right. You would never do that. It's a shame though. Because I do think that he would be up for it. And he certainly is a ride you don't want to miss out on. If the tabloids are right about him, that is', Hilda has this faraway look on her face. As if she is imagining him in said scenario. And the clap of Betty's hand against her sisters arm comes out of nowhere. She simply doesn't like her sister imagining having sex with her boyfriend. She's a married woman for crying out loud. 'Hey, what was that for'

'Oh my god, you know exactly what it was for and this conversation is over. I'm not gonna talk to you about this. Because guess what, this is insane', though she will definitely keep it in mind for later. Well, much later, because she does have the strange feeling that she won't be able to do any jumping for a few weeks. But other than that it is a nice visual. Though like she said, maybe not in this environment.

'You're such a prude, mami. It's just sex we're talking about. It's nothing weird like letting him lick your boots or wearing your underwear'

'Really? That's what your going for when your talking about weird? I can't believe your my sister'

'Ditto', they look challenging at each other for a few seconds before softening up and sling their arms around each others shoulders. 'All I'm trying to say is, that I have the feeling that he likes you, mami. Like more then a friend does. And I do believe that you like him too. And I don't want you to wake up one day and be miserable because you didn't take action'

'Thank you, Hilda. But I don't think there's anything to worry about'

'You mean..., you two already...?', Hilda's huge eyes shine with anticipation and unhinged joy.

'No, I mean we're really good friends. And we're happy about the way it is', Betty's sweet smile destroys Hilda's hope. She can't take it. They are so oblivious.

'You absolutely suck sometimes but I'm off', she gets up and places the chair back. But before turning around and walking back towards Bobby, she gives Betty something to think about. 'Don't be stupid, Betty. Don't self-sabotage yourself like you always do'

And with that she leaves Betty not only behind, but also speechless. She really does care. It's not about being noisy and playing matchmaker for the fun of it. She simply cares about her sisters happiness. Not that it surprises Betty. They may have they're ups and downs, but they always stick up for each other when it matters most. They're always there for each other. So she swallows her annoyance over her meddling and simply smiles soft at her retreating figure.

'What was that all bout?', Daniel leans over, probably heard some bits of their conversation.

'That was Hilda trying to sell you to me', Betty still smiles at Hilda, sees the little nod in Daniel's direction and can't help but chuckle at her ridiculous behaviour.

'I have no idea what your talking about. But okay. So, how's your foot?', Daniel examines her tense features. She's in pain. He can see that. But he also knows, that she would never admit it. Not voluntary. He also knows that she plays it down. She doesn't want anyone to worry about her. And he guesses that a part of her really wants this weekend with their families. Cause this sort of feels like a test. If this goes well, then it's a no-brainer to tell them about their relationship. Because they know that everyone will get along. They will be so much more at ease, knowing their families actually like spending time together.

'I'm good, don't worry', her soft smile is almost too much to take. How much he would love to kiss her right now. Not only does she look absolutely amazing in the firelight. But he would also love nothing more then to hold her throughout the pain.

'You don't have to put on a brave face, Betty. If your in pain, and I know you are, then we can go back into the city and get you checked out. We could come back here afterwards', his worried look is endearing and she only loves him more for suggesting this. But she will be fine.

'It's alright. It's nothing to worry about, promise'

'I knew you would say that', she laughs light under her breath. 'Just keep it in mind. We can go, no matter what time. Just say the word, okay?'

'I know and I will', she goes back to observing everyone. Takes it all in again. And her mind drifts back to her sisters words. Don't be stupid, Betty. Don't self-sabotage yourself like you always do. Does she really do that? She doesn't think so.

Walter was Someone her sister convinced her was right for her. Hilda tried to imprint in her that she could be happy with him and have a good life. While Betty felt trapped. Like there was something so much better waiting ahead for her. She doesn't consider that self-sabotage. But then came Henry. And there was absolutely nothing she could've done. Their time was limited. Even if he wouldn't have moved after Charlie gave birth, he would've had his hands full. They wouldn't have been able to spend time together. But why did she stay with him? Easy, because she loved him. Even though knowing it would never last, was it worth it? The pain and misery she's been through? Four years ago she would've said 'Yes' in a heartbeat. But today she would say 'No'. Because there is something so much better waiting for her. Maybe she could've saved herself a lot of heartache.

Then Matt. With him it was so different. And kind of messed up. Because all of a sudden there was Henry back in town and she didn't know what to do. And Matt couldn't make up his mind about Amanda or her. And even though he played both of them, she took him back in the end. Why did she do that? Just because she loved him? Just because she felt bad for hurting him first? Did she feel obligated? She should've had more self-esteem than that. No man is worth the pain if he only plays with you and your feelings. And how could she ever consider him as a serious boyfriend? She hates his family. Especially his mother. Victoria is a bitch with a capital B.

Okay, so maybe with Henry and Matt she can sort of see some self-sabotaging. But would she change anything about it? Would she do everything the same way again? Probably. Because it all led her to Daniel.

All the heartache she's been through. The ups and downs. He's the one that was always there for her. The one that stood by her side no matter what. He believed in her when nobody else did, not even Betty herself. And he's the one that means the world to her. Who she loves dearly and can't imagine her life without. He's her endgame.

So maybe, is not telling everyone her way of self-sabotaging this? No, it can't be. They both agreed that... . Did he only agree because she said so? Does he secretly want to tell everyone? Is he getting fed up with her uncertainty? But she isn't uncertain. Not when it comes to him. She wants to be with him. She couldn't be more sure of anything else in her life. And she doesn't care about anyone else or what they're thinking. Contemplating all this, makes her realize that it is in fact the truth. She couldn't care less. Because she loves him.

Strongly. Whole-heartedly. Unconditionally.

The world needs to know. First their families on Monday. And then the next step after that is to get a statement out. Declare to the world that Betty Suarez is hopelessly in love with Daniel Meade. And that anyone who has a problem with that can go to hell.

He's hers and she's his.

'This is impossible', Justin storms out of their tent and onto the already bustling campground. Everyone is awake and on their tasks for the day. Ignacio and Claire prepare the breakfast and make coffee, while the others are gathering firewood and get everything else ready. Bradford silently sits at the lake, looks up behind his newspaper.

'What's the big deal? When you were younger, we did it all the time', Betty limps after him, stumbles over her own feet. Daniel catches her last minute and steadies her body against his side. A mumbled 'Thank you' and together their off to go after Justin again. Daniel curiously watching the scene in front of him.

'Keyword being 'younger'. I'm not a cuddle buddy, AB', Justin calls out.

'Sorry?', Betty smirks, she can't help it. The situation is too funny to her. And that's exactly when Austin decides to join them. Happy bright smile on his face, he waves over and calls out a joyful 'Hello'.

'Thank god you're here. And AB, this is not funny. You smothered me and I almost suffocated in your cobra-like grip around me', Austin stops in his tracks and looks back and forth between the two.

'You look fine to me?', Betty tries to lighten the mood. Her hand on Daniel's shoulder softens, when they seem to come to a halt. Balancing her weight almost completely on her left foot.

'What the hell is going on', Hilda comes over, towel still wrapped around her head.

'She nearly cuddled me to death, mom. I am so happy, that Austin is here. I was contemplating of letting her stay with us, but after last night? Fat chance. You have to find yourself a new tent buddy, AB'

'Why are you being like this? Come on, it wasn't that bad. If I remember correctly, you even cuddled me back', Betty argues with Justin. He simply throws his arms in the air and huffs out a deep breath.

'That was before you kept calling me names. If you have to cuddle me, I at least appreciate it, If you would call me by my own name', Justin calls out desperately.

'You did not just say that', Betty's absolutely shocked. How could he? He said he's keeping their secret. Plays along with them.

'I'm sorry, AB. But it's not working out. I have to call it quits. I want you out of my tent', and turning around Justin takes Austin's hand and walks back to his tent.

'What the hell did just happen?', Betty's amused and shocked at the same time. She saw the little glint in Justin's eyes. It was just a show. He put this on. For what exactly, she has absolute no idea. She plops down in the nearest chair and huffs out a deep sigh.

'What the hell dis just happen?', Daniel repeats her question in lack of words and sits down next to her. His concerned look examine her. She softly shakes her head. Tells him, that she too, has absolutely no freaking idea.

'Hey Betty-licious, I could sleep on top of Tyler. That way we could all fit in our tent', Amanda says suggestive.

'Thanks Amanda, that's really nice of you, but I think I'll have to pass', Betty's thankful, really. But that won't do. And on top of that, she doubts that Daniel would enjoy that arrangement as well.

'I don't think it's a good idea to put Betty in one of the couples tents. That way three of us would be uncomfortable. But maybe DJ could move in with the two boys and you and Daniel could share a tent? Would that be ok with everybody?', and Ignacio saves the day. That could work. If the boys will agree. Looking to DJ, he was sitting in the grass, playing on his portable console, not even listening.

'DJ? Would it be ok if you switch tents with Betty?', Alexis softly touches his shoulder to get his attention.

'Oui, oui, that will be fine. Daniel's having fever dreams in his sleep anyway. He was saying weird things', DJ's not even looking up. Daniel on the other hand remarkably tense and feverishly red.

'JUSTIN?!', Hilda calls out.

'Yeah, yeah, DJ can sleep in our tent'

'Alright it's settled then. Well, you two are ok sharing a tent right?', Claire looks almost innocent. Almost. If Bradford wouldn't throw a weird look in her direction, before throwing a scrutinizing one in Daniels and Betty's direction.

'Sure, wouldn't be the first time we sleep together', Betty says mindlessly, signals for Daniel to help her up and over to her tent. But when no one says anything she turns her head around to find them all looking at her in shock. 'In a very platonic and very tired way. What were you guys thinking? Wait, in hindsight, I don't want to know. Come on, Daniel. We bring my things over to your tent and gather up DJs'

And getting her stuff, she packs them away in Daniel's tent and starts to get ready for the day.

Other then the commotion with Justin this morning, Saturday was fairly slow. With Betty's foot they changed the plans. Stayed at the campground and played a few games there. Her foot swollen up over night. So much that the wrap is getting increasingly uncomfortable. And the only way to cool her foot down a bit is to hold it into the lake. So that is where she is right now. At the edge of the lake watching their families from afar for a few seconds.

Turning around she breathes out deep and thorough. The pain still gets worse. The cold water doing nothing to help. And Elenas pain meds are useless. Why does something like this always happen to her?

'How are you feeling, Betty?', Bradford Meade softly plops down next to her. Examines her tense features. Can see right through her.

'I'm good, thank you', her smile very unconvincing, looks more mechanic and forced.

'I don't believe that', his small lopsided smile reminds her of Daniel. And she is stuck on that. For the first time she sees a visible resemblance between those two. And she doesn't know what to say. 'That was a very interesting morning. I have to give you that'

'Yeah, that's Justin. He's a real life drama queen', her soft chuckle tints her cheeks a lovely shade of pink.

'It was quite entertaining. I'm very much enjoying this weekend'

'Yes, me too'

They sit in silence. Not knowing what to say. All they've been these past four years are big boss and his sons assistant turned best friend. They never had a personal conversation. Well, except for the one about his reasoning of hiring her. But apart from that? No, not a real one. And they sure never were alone for long. It was always the pleasant office small talk. Him passing by her desk on his way into Daniel's office. And the last year they only saw each other occasionally after a pitch meeting. So yeah. This is a little weird and off. Now, if it were Mrs. Meade? That would be a totally different thing. They get along so well.

'Betty, I think it's about time we talk. I can see how much you mean to my son. And when my wife talks about you, it all sounds... - good. And you and your family did so much for mine. I would really like to get to know you', he's fidgeting with his watch. Looks nervously back and forth between his hands and the lake. A fleeting look to Betty and back on his hands. It's endearing and very much like Daniel.

'I guess, you could say that it's a little bit weird that we never really talked, right? In four years? Well, except for that one time', Betty leans forward, rubs her sweaty hands over her grey yoga pants. And looking up at him, she sees his slight discomfort. He is no way near ready to start this conversation. But someone has to make a start. And better sooner then later. 'So, how's Mrs. Meade? And Tyler? It looks like everyone is getting along great'

'Yeah, they are all great. I'm not gonna lie, finding out about Tyler was something else entirely. But I have only myself to blame. And as different as we may seem, he fits in perfectly', he throws a fleeting look over his shoulder. Watches his three kids and wife talking animatedly with the Suarez's. It's all so very domestic. He lived for that in a very distant past. Before the success fogged up his brain and he lost sight off what's really important. And he finally lives for it in the present and future again.

'Yeah, I remember how much Daniel struggled. It's not easy. But so worth it in the end. The more the merrier, right?'

'Right', he looks at her wistfully before adding, 'When Alexis brought Philippe home the first time, well let's call it a meet and greet. I thought I had to give him a hard time. But he's a genuinely nice man. And his parents are lovely. With Amanda, well we both know how she is. She's sweet, honest and very naive. Her parents are delightful and it may be bad of me. But I happen to think it's a blessing that her real mother is not with us anymore. Not that Fey would've ever acknowledged her. Alexis already has DJ and with Tyler and Amanda you just never know. I'm just worried about Daniel. After Molly, he didn't really put himself out there. And he never talks about her or his romantic life in general'

'I can't tell you much, because I promised him not to. And I plan on keeping that promise. But I also know that I'm your only source, when it comes to him. So I'm gonna tell you this much. Loosing her was hard for him. He loved her so much. Loves her so much. Because he still does and always will. And I think he just needed time to grieve the missed opportunities. But he's in a good place now. And ready to move on'

Nodding, he falls silent. Thinks about everything. What they've been through, how they were able to build a friendship over the last four years. And seeing them together, how comfortable they are with each other. How they seem to always circle around each other. Like magnets. 'Betty, if this question is too personal, please say so. I'll understand. But I need to know something. Do you and my son..., are you..., you know?'

'Well, there are a lot of possible turns your question could take', it's her turn to fidget with her hands. If he's asking what she thinks he does, then she can't lie to him. She could never.

'Are you together, Betty?', her head whips around and his eyes bore into hers. Sees the deep crimson blush colouring her cheeks, while she's chewing on her lower lip and her hands fidget with the hem of her sweatshirt.

'Yes', hanging her head low, she waits for the lecture. But it's not coming. Instead she hears his soft chuckle.

'I should've known Claire was right. She usually is when it comes to this. Always said that she hopes he realizes what's in front of him before it's too late. I thought it's a fever dream of hers. Said that you would never do that. That you have higher moral standards. Guess I was wrong'

It's not a lecture. Not at all. But it comes very close to it. At least for Bettys understanding. And she can't help but feel stupid. No, that's not right. She feels like, he thinks she is stupid. Which is even worse. Because she knows that she isn't. In fact, she always gets underestimated. And she's so done with that. If being with Daniel feels so right, how in the world could it be wrong? Yes, what they are doing is against company policy. But it's not as if they are waltzing around the office and abandon their responsibilities.

'What you have to understand is, when it comes down to it, Daniel is my best friend first and then my boss. It has nothing to do with higher moral standards. I didn't fall in love with my boss. Yes, I was his assistant for three years. Helping him out in ways, no one will ever fully understand. For the only reason that I wanted to learn as much from him as I possibly could. At least that was my reasoning in the beginning. But then our dynamic changed. We became friends, best friends. We even became codependent. And all of a sudden I found myself invested in an unlikely friendship. And people were constantly mocking and judging us. Do you have any idea how many weird rumours went around about us? Just because we are friends? It's insane how invested people can be. But I swallowed it. Because his friendship alone means more to me then anything else. And secretly, I loved him for standing up for me. While giving him the riot act for threatening other people. He helped me grow, with his never ending belief in me and what I'm capable of. His ever so sudden wise advice when I needed it the most, made me see right from wrong. It gave me a direction to follow, when I didn't no which turn to take. I am who I am partly because of him. And you have to agree, that we do make a great team. We work well together. I can speak 'Daniel' fluent by now. And I think you know yourself, that he isn't the greatest communicator. He even once said, that I'm definitely the talker in our relationship', her soft chuckle flies through the air. And the next breeze takes it and let it fade away over the lake. Her dark chocolate brown eyes are glistening with something Bradford doesn't immediately recognize.

'We've been through so much together. And he was there for me, when no one else was. He is brutally honest and incredibly compassionate. He's the funniest and smartest guy I know. The goofball who always knows how to make me silly with laughter and cheer me up when I'm down. He cares so much, that he knows me better then I know myself. So tell me that it's wrong to fall in love with my best friend. Tell me how I should've prevent it', she softly closes her statement. Doesn't dare to look up. But Bradford doesn't need to see her eyes. He can see it through her words. And he can finally name it. It's love. Pure and unconditional love. With a deep underlining admiration. And it's endearing. God, how much he likes the picture she's painting of his middle son.

'How long is this going on, Betty?', his voice is soft and small. Barely more then a whisper.

'Eight weeks', she admits.

'That's what I thought. The way you speak about my son. It couldn't be new'

'Well, we have four years of friendship to build up on. But yeah. It may not be fresh out of the press, but it's not completely yesterdays news as well', his ringing laughter surprises her. What did she say?

'You are something else entirely, Betty'

'Is that a good thing or...'

'A very good thing', he wipes the tears away from the corners of his eyes. It's a long time ago that he laughed like that. It's certainly fun to have her around.

'Thank you. You know, you all sort of surprised us with this whole family-and-friends-getting-to-know-each-other-camping-trip. We wanted to tell you all soon. Really. We just needed time to figure everything out. But being here, and realizing that you all seem to think that we're stupid and oblivious. We thought we keep it down and see what you all come up with. You thought that we wouldn't realize what you're up to?', she looks at him. Challenges him with her raised eyebrows and disappointed look. Though internally, she pushes down the fear of disapproval. He didn't really say what he thinks about them being together.

'Betty, this was my wife's idea. I told her if you two really have something going on, than we should stay out of it. That by meddling, we could mess this up for you. And that it's none of our business. So you see, you don't have to worry. And I'm certainly not one to pass judgement. Yes, what you're doing is against company policy. You know that and I know that. But I've done many mistakes in my life. I've broken my own rules, only god knows how often. And who am I to tell you, that you shouldn't fall in love with my son? I think he's a lucky guy for having you. And hope that he doesn't take you for granted'

'No, when we're together he's just wonderful'

'Betty, you don't need our approval. But believe me, my wife will be over the moon. She's constantly talking about you and how much she wishes for Daniel to get his head out of his butt and finally ask you out. And I couldn't be happier for my son. He has a wonderful, smart, young woman at his side who thinks the world of him. What more could we possibly want for him?'

'Thank you, Mr. Meade', shyly looking down on her hands she sees Daniel out of the corner of her eyes. He's observing them. Probably fears the worst.

'By the way you talk about my son, it sounds very serious. Don't you think it's about time you call my wife and me by our first names, Betty? I know Claire already tells you this for months', his mischievous smirk makes her blush even worse.

'Oh, uhm...', she stumbles over her words. Sees Daniel getting increasingly nervous.

'Don't worry, Betty. I don't expect you to get it right right away. And I will keep your secret to myself. For now. But I'm counting on you to tell everybody on Monday'

'We will, definitely. I promise you that. And thank you, for being so understanding, Bradford', her small snicker too cute. Tinting her cheeks an almost deep crimson shade again. He chuckles along with her. Is delighted in the light mood they can share. 'Yup, it's going to take a while to get accustomed to that. I guess I could put that down on the list as another reason why I'm looking for a new job'

'Excuse me?'

'Oh, the high moral standards you were talking about? Yeah, I do have them. I can't date my boss. Not ever. That just feels wrong. So after we established that it does work out, I started looking for a new job. I have a few interviews lined up for the next two weeks'

'You are an astonishing woman, Betty. And thank you for the talk. It was very nice. Though I think I should leave you be now. Daniel's slowly but surely closing in on us. Pacing around like a maniac. He probably wants to talk with you. Give him my blessings', and with that he stands up, winks one last time at Betty and goes back over to their group.

'What was that all about?', Daniel's immediately at her side. Plops down and watches her intently.

'He knows'

'What?', his eyes huge, nearly bugging out, mouth hanging wide open.

'It's ok. He's keeping it to himself for now. But he asks of us to tell everybody on Monday. I promised him that', she embraces her left leg and lays her chin on her knee. Softly smiles into the distance.

'What?', there must be something he missed. Because he can't remember ever being this dense.

'He said, he knows that we don't need anyone's approval. But he's happy for us and gives his blessing', she tilts her head to the right and looks at him. Soft smile shines with love and admiration.

'How does he know?'

'Because he asked me and I told him. I'm not gonna lie, Daniel. Especially not to our parents. If they're asking, they're gonna get an honest answer from me. Look, I realized one thing while we're here. I love you. So much. I want to be with you. And I don't care what anyone thinks, because I'm so proud of being with you. We put this off for to long. It's time to tell everyone', the sunlight shines in his eyes. Makes them sparkle like the ocean. And in them lays so much love and pride. Their full to the brim with it. Her smile stretching on its own accord.

'God, babe, I love you too. So much. You know that, right?', her violent nod makes him chuckle. 'And I'm so ready to tell everyone, really. I'm so proud to be with you as well. I feel so blessed that you actually love me back', his words are beyond sweet and she feels exactly the same way about him.

When he sees her watery smile and the tears that are slowly falling down her cheeks, he gets a little panicked. 'Uuuuh, what are those? Are those happy tears?'

'Hmmm, I promise'

'Please don't cry, baby. It makes me want to hug you so bad'

'Then hug me. Best friends hug, right?', Betty's hopeful eyes look into his. And she hears his little sigh, before he scoots closer and engulfs her in a bone-crushing hug.

'I wish, we could stay like this forever'

'I know, me too', her arms tighten around his waist in a steel-like-grip. Nuzzling her nose in the crook of his neck, she inhales his scent. Feels the calming effect it has on her. 'Mmmh, see? When we're this close, I'm fine'

'Hmmm?'

'Whenever I'm with you, I'm so happy, Daniel. I can't think about anything else, but the fact how great it feels to be this close to you. Something just always felt off. Something was always missing, you know? And I feel like, that it's not missing anymore'

'I know what you mean', leaning back, he softly draws little figures with the pad of his thumb over her cheeks. Wipes the tears away and traces her delicate blush. 'How's your foot by the way? You look like your in pain'

'Eh, it could be better. I don't know how much the cold water really helps. It doesn't seem to have a huge effect. And the pain meds suck. They definitely don't have an effect. I feel like it's getting worse by the hour'

'Maybe we should really go to the ER. Get you checked out and most importantly get you good painkillers'

'Nooo, now your father knows. And I promised him that we would tell the others on Monday. If I go to the ER, we don't know what they will do. They could keep me there for a night. And I really want to spend this weekend with everybody'

'You suck, you're rather sitting here, not being able to do anything and being in excruciating pain, then to get the help you need'

'That sounds about right', her mischievous little smirk is the worst. Because it bores it's way right into his heart and makes him whine. He can't stay mad at her when she's like this.

'Ok, I'm sure my dad would understand, but just remember what I told you. We can go, no matter when. Just say the word'

'I know. Can you help me up and over to one of the chairs? My foot feels so pruny. I need to get it dry', standing up, he takes her hands and helps her up, limping over with her to the chairs.

He sees his father. The way he looks at them. Sees the little joyful glint in his eyes and the happy smile on his face. And Daniel's glad that he knows. He really is.

Settling in their tent for the night, Betty already lays down on her futon, while Daniel's still trying to climb over her, without accidentally kicking her right foot. Slipping under his blanket he turns off their lantern.

'Hey, you know, Hilda said one thing to me that sort of got me thinking...', she turns around on her side and scoots a bit closer to him.

'What's that?', his arms wrap around her on autopilot, one hand softly gliding up and down her back.

'Well, yesterday she said that I shouldn't be stupid. That I shouldn't self-sabotage myself like I always do. And at first I thought nothing of it. Because I don't do that. I don't self-sabotage, right? But she got me thinking. And I realized, maybe I tend to do that. In small ways. And it always had the same result. So, I have to break the pattern. To keep myself from doing that. And I just started wondering, if keeping this down, is me sabotaging us. How can I say that I want to be with you, if I deny you in public? I love you. No matter what. And I don't care what anyone else thinks of us', combing through his soft hazelnut hair she looks at his almost shocked face.

'What are you saying, babe?'

'I'm saying that maybe I want to tell everyone to back the hell off'

'So you want to claim ownership?', what a mind twisting way of putting it. And boy if that doesn't sound great, than she doesn't know what does. Owning Daniel Meade. She could enjoy that... - very much. And looking up into his eyes, she sees a storm of emotions behind them.

'What if I do?', biting down on her lower lip, she lets her hand softly glide up his arm and over his shoulder til it nestles in his neck.

'I'd say I'm yours', pulling him down to her, their noses softly bump against each other. 'And that I love nothing more than to claim you as mine'

His hand slips under her shirt and ghosts over her spine. Feels the goosebump spreading out over her entire back. And with the other he angles her head upwards and claims her lips in a slow burning kiss.

'You're so possessive', her soft whisper is barely audible. Sounds so sensual. His half-hooded eyes glide over her face. The soft rosé blush on her cheeks and her bright eyes, that seem to hold the world in them. They glide over her kiss-swollen lips. How deliciously red they are now. How plump and full.

'You're mine. And don't you ever forget it', her breath catches in her throat.

'Uh huh', she bites her lower lip, nodding like a maniac. And slowly pulls him back down and kisses him hard on the lips. His arm pulls her flush against him. His hand on her spine softly moves up and down under her sweatshirt. Her skin is so soft and hot under his fingers. And the sensual moan in the back of her throat bubbles out of her. It's not in her might to keep it down. She already is at the point of no return. So she throws her leg around his waist and manages to bring them even closer.

'Babe, we can't...', his heavy breathing does nothing to calm down her rapidly beating heart.

'I know, I just missed having you so close. Give me a few minutes and I got my desperately-needed-daily-dose-of-Daniel filled up again', touching her forehead to his, she takes in his intoxicating but calming scent. It's an amazing effect it has on her. She's so much calmer smelling him around her. Knowing he's near. And his scent is slowly lulling her into a quite peacefulness. Her breaths become longer and deeper and her heart settles for an excited, happy and content beat. Her mind fogs up and she basks in the familiar feeling of Daniel being wrapped around her. As long as they are together, everything is right in the world.

That feeling lasted for two hours. Then she was back to laying awake in the tent and being in excruciating pain. And Daniel's words are constantly running through her mind. And she is really contemplating of taking him up on that offer.

And while she can hear the soft snoring of her Papi somewhere in the distant, she decides that she can't take it anymore. She wants the good painkillers. So she sits up and rummages around for her sweater.

'Hey, you okay?', Daniel's tired mumble is too cute.

'No, not really. My foot hurts even worse then a few hours ago. I was wondering if your offer still stands? Because I would like to take you up on it. Maybe I should get it checked out. And I really want the good painkillers. I can barely take it anymore', combing through his soft hazelnut hair, she sees the little nod before he even says anything.

'Come on, let's go', he sits up and throws a sweater on. Climbs easily out of the tent.

She struggles to climb out of their tent. Literally hopping over the ground on her butt. It's a good thing everyone is asleep. She would be mortified if anyone would see her like this. But then she feels two strong hands grabbing her thighs and softly pull her out of it. She can only sigh of relief. Stretching her hands up, he takes them in his own and pulls her up.

'Silly girl, I knew you were overplaying it. It was written all over your face', it's only love that speaks through the scolding tone. Betty knows that. And she also knows that this was dumb. He's right, they should've went right away. But she really thought it might be nothing and would eventually go away.

'I'm sorry'

'Don't apologize. You don't need too. I just want you to get checked out and the good pain meds, because this is awful. Come on, hop on. We're faster if I carry you', his whisper is raspy and she can feel the goosebump spreading out over her entire back. And slinging her arms around his neck, he grabs her legs and carry's her over to the car. A big SUV. His fathers car, for sure. And softly putting her down on the passenger seat he jogs around the car and jumps in himself.

Arriving back at the campground, everyone was up and bustling. Opening the door she can smell the coffee in the air and the Mexican breakfast burritos. One of her Papis specialties. And has no time to get out on her own. Daniel's already at her side, taking her in his arms and carrying her over to a chair. And right now she's very thankful. Because she's droopy and lightheaded. The pain meds really kicked in.

'Where were you? We thought you left us behind', Hilda says accusingly. Towel still wrapped around her head.

'Sorry, but we went to the ER. The pain was worse then she wanted to admit and she couldn't take it anymore. Her ankle is broken. It's an uncomplicated fracture. She only needs a cast and crutches for about six to eight weeks. And the really good pain meds are just kicking in', Daniel explains for her. Her silly smile is too cute. She slumps down in the chair and lays her head back. Closing her eyes, she softly starts to hum a weird little tune.

'Wow, she's high like a kite', Alexis and Hilda are softly looming over her, watching her relaxed demeanour.

'Oh mio dio, Mija, how are you feeling?', Ignacio cups her cheek and makes her open her eyes for a fleeting second.

'Light. Like I'm floating on a cloud and cozy. I've never felt better', her eyes are closed again while her smile is comically wide. And Daniel can't keep his amused chuckle in. Places her crutches down on the ground next to her chair.

'Oh my, maybe we should call it a day and go back into the city. Go back home. We can always repeat this when Betty feels better', Claire softly sits down next to her and brushes Betty's hair out of her forehead.

'I don't know what you're talking about, Claire. I'm fine, I swear', her sweet giggle adorable. And Claire adores her even more. Hears Bradford laughing along with her.

'Betty, be reasonable', he tries to console her.

'Leave it, dad. I tried the whole way back and wasn't able to talk her into staying home', Daniel plops down in the other chair next to her. Feels the lack of sleep finally catching up with him. A big sigh escaping his lungs when he slumps down. His eyes closed in an instant.

'I'm sorry, babe', she takes his hand in hers and softly draws little circles with her thumb.

'Don't worry. I know what I got myself into. Just promise me to at least take it slow after this weekend', he takes her hand up to his lips and places a soft kiss.

'I promise', they both let their heads fall back and close their eyes. Unaware of the confused looks around them.

'Babe?', Hilda whispers to the rest of their group.

'Why don't you two get some sleep. We can talk later when you're rested', Claire suggests. Softly shakes her head at the rest. Tells them silently to leave it be. It's better to get their answers when their well rested and have a clear mind.

'Sounds good', Daniel sighs, before standing up and holding out his hands to Betty. 'Come on, you should lay down. Your foot was already swollen when they put the cast on'

'Mmmh hmmm...', she takes his hands and lets herself being pulled up into his side. With Daniel holding most of her weight, they slowly walk over to their tent.

Crawling in she immediately snuggles down into his pillow and basks in his scent. He plops down next to her and turns around on his side. His arm moving around her waist on autopilot, pulling her further back into his body.

'Love you, babe', he softly mumbles into her hair.

'Love you too', she takes his hand in hers and pushes it up under her chin. Clutching his arm to her chest.

Waking up, she feels the familiar heavy weight of someone being wrapped around her. Basks in the comfortable warmth of his body heat. Pushing back, she snuggles further into his body and feels his grasp around her waist tightening even more.

How she missed this the last two nights. How much she missed him. Only he can make her feel as comfortable as humanly possible. He's like the coziest blanket and the softest pillow. Though she would never tell him that. He would be offended, questioning why exactly he spends so much time in the gym. Silly guy.

And then she is awake. Her eyes pop open in an instant. Oh shoot, they slipped up. They know. Everyone knows. This is not how they were suppose to find out. But they were so tired that they couldn't care less. And she was high on the pain meds. Well, they can't change it. At least now they're families know. And maybe it is for the better. So she should relax and enjoy this little moment they can steal for themselves. Before they have to go out and answer probably a tone of questions.

So turning around on her side, she sees that Daniel's still asleep. And he looks so peaceful. Softly combing with her fingers through his hair, she takes him in. Sees the slight up-curved shape off his lips, the relaxed eyelids and smooth forehead. No worries. He looks content and happy. And she's brimming with pride that maybe a small part of it is because of their relationship.

'Stop staring at me'

'So you are already awake. I wasn't sure'

'Who can sleep with those loud noises outside?'

'Huh? Oh yeah, I haven't really noticed. I was to occupied ogling you', her wide playful smile is absolutely glorious. The little glint in her eyes brilliant.

'You look happy'

'I am very happy', her smile turns more loving, and looking him straight in his cerulean eyes, he feels almost bare in front of her. But that's ok, because if she can't see all his shady little bits and pieces, then nobody can. And she knows about all of them and is still here. She still loves him and wants to be with him. So yeah, it's ok. More then ok.

'Are you ready? I'm sure they have a lot of questions', he cups her chin and gently moves her face upwards. Kisses her along her cheek and jaw. Slowly making his way over to her mouth.

'I'm so ready. I just wish I paid more attention. I would've loved to see their faces when they realized that they underestimated us', a little sensual moan escapes her throat, his kisses feel so soft and light against her skin. They tease her in the best way possible. And she loves nothing more then to make out with him like this. Because he always does that. Tease her mercilessly with light ghosting kisses, before crushing her to him and kissing her hard and passionate.

She's already breathless. Waits for him to finally kiss her for real. But he keeps placing soft kisses along her hairline and temple, before drawing little figures on her cheek with the tip of his nose. It's all very sensual and gets her blood boiling. What would she give to be at her apartment right now. God, how much fun they could have.

And that's it. She can't take it anymore. Grunting out, she cups the back of his neck and pulls him down to her. Kisses him hot and searching, pushes herself further into his body and embrace.

Slowly but surely Daniel helps her up. And she realizes with the pain meds and the cast, that she is actually able to put a little weight on her foot without it hurting too much. So limping her way out of the tent behind Daniel, they finally face their families. Who turns uncharacteristically quite.

Everyone is watching them. Sees the way Betty shyly limps up next to Daniel. How they seem to stick together like glue all of a sudden and move in tandem. It's quite a view. Is one of them moving the other follows. Probably without thinking about it or even noticing. And Claire absolutely adores it.

'You both look better', Claire says smooth, mischievous glint in her eyes, while she takes two cups and pours coffee for the both of them. Handing it over she expectantly looks at them. 'Coffee?'

'Thank you', Betty shyly combs through her hair and secures it behind her ear, before taking the cup from her.

'You're welcome. Why don't you two sit down. I think we have a lot to talk about', Claire was never one to beat around the bush. She prefers honesty and the truth over everything else. And seeing these two in so much discomfort is a little pleasing. They hid this from them for who knows how long. Though Bradford knows something. That much is clear. But confronting him about it, did absolutely nothing. Sadly. His lips are sealed. He wouldn't say anything. Said it's their secret to share. Not his. So, if you ask Claire, she thinks they deserve a little discomfort. They could've at least told their families. Don't they have a right to know? Well, she certainly thinks so.

Sitting down on the bench, Betty feels like she's back in high school. The expectant looks on Alexis and Hilda's faces? The way they tap with their heavy hiking boots against the ground? Yeah, they're somewhat mad. 'I feel like I've been called into the principals office'

Daniel's oppressed laugh into his mug makes her snicker. But then she sees her Papis serious face and remembers everything again. Yeah, they really should've told them earlier.

Betty gulps down the sip of coffee in her mouth and takes a look at Bradford. He's relaxed, a small smile on his face. 'Did you...?'

'No, I promised not to say anything. And it's not my place to share your secret, Betty', nodding at him, she looks at Daniel and takes his hand in hers.

'Guess you already put the puzzle pieces together, haven't you? It's true, we're together'

'How long, Mija?', her fathers still serious. Is probably more offended then mad. At least that's what Betty hopes.

'Eight weeks', Daniel looks down into his mug. Rather watches the coffee run in circles then the disappointment written all over her fathers face.

'Eight weeks?', Ignacio is shocked. He doesn't recognize his own daughter. 'Betty, why didn't you say something?'

'I'm sorry, Papi..., we're sorry. Really. But we didn't want anyone to know. Not when we weren't sure if this works out or not'

'But eight weeks? That's a long time not being sure', Ignacio can't believe it. Eight weeks they've been hiding their relationship. He doesn't have a problem with them dating. No, not at all. It's quite the opposite. Daniel is a good man who will take good care of his daughter. And most importantly seem to love her unconditionally. But the whole hiding thing makes it seem wrong. And that he simply can't understand.

'Papi, this is not just some relationship I'm in. Daniel's not some guy I just met. He's my best friend. What if it wouldn't have worked out? But we already told everyone? Then what? It would've been devastating to take a step backwards without you guys even knowing. But have you guys watch every move we make? It would've been ten times worse. So, we wanted the possibility to go backwards without anyone knowing and making weird comments about it. Yes, we hid the fact that we're dating. Didn't let anyone in on it, because we wanted to figure out what this is. Without being watched and judged. Because let's face it, with Daniel's name being attached to this relationship, everyone would observe and come to their own conclusions', Daniel softly smiles at her. Picks a strand of her hair and pins it behind her ear.

'It was never about keeping it a secret from you all. It was only about figuring everything out and getting accustomed. We at least deserved that, didn't we?', his voice is so soft. Betty melt right into his side. The dreamy little smile on her face giving away, just how serious this is.

'I just don't like that you hid it. It makes it seem wrong. Which it isn't. And I don't like the feeling, that I would be still out of the blue if we didn't plan this', Ignacio is adamant about this. He doesn't like it.

'Look, Papi, we already wanted to tell you guys. Camping or not. We would've come clean this weekend. And talking about this thing you guys just planned? What were you thinking? Planning this whole trip? We're not stupid. We knew from the beginning what you were doing. And it was creepy. And your matchmaking skills..., I mean, boy..., you weren't subtle at all. Hilda was practically trying to sell Daniel to me...'

'I was not. I just pointed out the obvious. You know: rich, handsome and a good kisser'

'How do you know about Daniel's kissing skills, babe?', Bobby turns around to her. Watches her every move. Sees her fidgeting hands in her lap.

'That's not important right now. Look, Betty lied to us. For two months'

'That's not even what you said to me', Betty bursts out. 'You said look at that arms, mami. They're made entirely off muscles. You said I should jump him as a thank you. And back in the forest of all places. Said that's a ride you don't want to miss out on', Betty says, making a mock-impression of her beloved sister.

'Hilda?!', Ignacio is shocked. How could his oldest daughter suggest something like that?

'Oh, like you're any better, daddy dearest. Who suggested that they share a tent in the first place? I believe that was you', and Hilda gets dragged away a few feet. Bobby demanding all her attention.

'Yeah, what the hell, Papi? You were willingly and almost literally throwing me at him. I'm used to Hilda's non-boundary, delusional crazy talk. But what the hell happened to my conservative father?'

'Oh mio dios, I don't know okay? I just didn't want to leave empty handed, so to speak. I thought if we're really doing this, than I at least wanted for it to work out', he snaps, waving his hands in the air. Mostly being disappointed and mad at himself.

'I felt a little bit like I'm at a farmers market. You may not have a bidder yet, but on Monday I for sure had to leave for a new farm'

'Oh, now you're being overly dramatic, mami. We wouldn't have thrown you out like some cheap sheep. And besides, we knew that the grass on the other side would've definitely be greener', Hilda's back into the discussion, after explaining to Bobby how exactly she found out about Daniels great kissing skills. But not greater then him though. Nooo, of course not.

'Oh, and Justin. What was your little play all about? You know, yesterday? Why did you do that?'

'Leave me out of this, AB. I only wanted for you two to share a tent. I thought you would actually prefer it. And just because I said I'm on your side and keep your secret, doesn't mean I'm not gonna help them as well. That would've been very suspicious', he's sitting in one chair, delighted in the drama enfolding around him. Brushing away some invisible dirt, he looks at her unimpressed.

'Wait a second. Why aren't you as surprised as the rest of us?', Hilda stands in front of her son, finger raised high, accusingly pointing in his direction.

'Because I actually do pay attention. I knew something was up. AB was too happy and lighthearted the last few weeks. Didn't you notice how she always kind of sighed happily and was in her own little bright coloured bubble? Yeah, something was off. And the way they looked at each other on Friday? Let's just say, I knew that there was definitely something going on. So I sneaked up on them and ta-da caught them in flagrante', Justin looks so proud of himself. It's almost cute. If it wouldn't be so...

'Creepy...', Betty whispers under her breath and shudders for a second.

'Why haven't you said anything?', Hilda is even more insulted then before. Her own son kept her out of the blue.

'Because I agree with them. Their not dumb. They only needed time alone. And you all did deserve a little torture for trying to play matchmaker', his case is closed. He has nothing more to say.

The Meades watch this whole scene. Delighted in the way this family is able to heatedly argue without losing sight of what's important. Family. Because at the end that's what it comes down to. Being a family. There's certainly a lot they can learn from them. And he's excited knowing that one day, he can maybe call them his family too.

'And Claire, while we're at it. Your not the innocent woman you tried to portray this weekend. The more you went with the flow and didn't speak up I knew something was off. 'You two are okay sharing a tent right?' Since when do you ask? And you didn't think I noticed the little looks you threw in my direction?', Betty turns around to her now. Damn it, and she thought she would be safe with the way her family was getting at it.

'Well, I certainly had no idea you can be so observant', Claire mumbles under her breath, while Bradford softly lays a hand over her thigh. His soft chuckle lightens the mood effectively.

'You know what I still don't get? You suck at keeping secrets', Alexis looks still so dumbfounded, sitting next to DJ, who's munching on scrambled eggs and bacon. The left overs from their breakfast.

'From each other, yes. But we're an amazing team. We can keep a secret from anyone else like a pro', Daniel's arm snakes around her shoulders and pulls her into his side. Their adoring smiles showing a happiness, Claire always hoped they would feel being together.

'I'm very happy for you. Both of you. Though I have to admit, that I still don't understand why you haven't said a word earlier. You can't tell me that you weren't sure for eight weeks? Come on, it was comfortable, wasn't it? Keeping it to yourselves', Claire sees the little kiss Daniel places on Betty's forehead. How his arm tightens further around her shoulders. The little sigh escaping Betty not loud enough to be heard. But definitely seen. In the way she melts into his body and intertwines their fingers.

'Oh please, what's not to understand Mrs. M? These two are together for eight weeks. Haven't said a single word to anyone to get accustomed to that new side of their relationship. And now, you all thought you have to play matchmaker. Which by the way, I told you not to. But anyway. Two days ago, they immediately knew what was going on. And your lucky, they told you now. They could've tortured you a bit longer and wait til the last moment possible', hands on his hips, Justin throws a scolding look at Claire, Ignacio and Hilda. 'You're just shocked that they actually got you this time'

'It's okay, Justin. We're sorry. That we kept you out of the blue. You are right, Claire. We could've said something earlier. But it was indeed comfortable to keep it to ourselves. And Justin has a point as well. You did deserve this. Daniel doesn't care, but I do. I don't like being played. Because it's a sign of underestimation. And I don't like being underestimated, Claire'

'I'm sorry. I didn't mean to offend you in any...', Claire all of a sudden realizes what just happened. She called her Claire. A second time already. She totally missed it earlier. Looking up at Betty she sees happiness, love and forgiveness. It's all combined in one beautiful warm smile. 'You called me 'Claire'. I thought you said that...'

'It's about time, don't you think?'

'Yes, it's about time'

I hope you like it
