September 26, 1966: Ozwell has renovated the house in South Dakota that belonged to his parents, equipping it with a small laboratory useful for our research. Brandon and I will move there in the next few days, so we can calmly dedicate ourselves to studying the flower we found in Africa.
September 29th: we arrived in the town. A quiet residential area, with a pub a few meters away and a few shops. In short, the right place to not be noticed! Ozwell informed me that our representative - Malcolm - will bring us samples of the liquefied material disguised as a milk deliveryman.
October 24: I'm losing patience. It seems clear to me that the legend Dr. Travis spoke about was nothing more than - indeed - a legend! The material obtained from the flower does not appear to have any properties, toxic or otherwise. So far all I've noticed is a slight inebriation in the animals I've given it to, including "Tom," a stray cat found on the street, and "Jerry," a mouse hanging around the lab. Ozwell told us to monitor their behavior over the next few days as well. What I find myself monitoring, for now, is to prevent damage on our equipment or anything else. If I had to take care of cats and mice I would have studied veterinary medicine, not chemistry and biology!
October 29: Today I found Tom up and about. On two legs. He walked almost as if he were a person. I don't know if I had a hallucination from too much work. I need rest, I think I'll take a day off tomorrow.
November 6: The cat and the mouse began to interact in a way that, although naturally conflictual, I would define as "human". I find this very interesting. I have installed CCTV cameras in the house to monitor their behavior while I continue to dose them with the product.
November 12: Malcolm came down only with a bottle of milk! And the material? He has no idea! He justified himself by saying that perhaps he dropped it on the street, he can't explain it. I hope Ozwell gets rid of this incompetent asap. We can't work today, I think I'll go out for a trip and then have a nice drink.
November 13: what happened was exceptional. Yesterday a piece of history was written! It seems clear to me now WHO stole the material. Tom, in an attempt to poison the mouse, mixed it with some chemicals, releasing some type of unstable but very powerful toxin! I managed to isolate some drops of the chemical compound that fell to the ground. I have already prepared all the materials to send to Ozwell and Edward.
November 15th: we are literally invaded by flies. I don't know where these insect came from but it seems like someone controls them. They seriously contaminated our research and we were only able to save a small part of it. Regarding the cat and mouse, it seems to me that their intellectual faculties are regressing, and I find them more and more aggressive since they have drunk the mixture. Brandon almost got bitten on the hand this morning, I think I'll have to put them down.
November 17: Brandon is missing! Where did that damn bastard go? I taught him everything I know, and as thanks he... leaves! I proceeded to contact Ozwell and Edward to evaluate what to do. We cannot allow "certain things" to be known around.
November 18: I sealed the secret laboratory and on Ozwell's orders I burned the house. It must have looked like a domestic accident, so I left the gas on and went out. I took the samples of the compound with me and proceeded to euthanize the guinea pigs. The behavior of the flies, however, seemed interesting to me, so I proceeded to let them continue to wander around the laboratory. I'll be back in a few weeks.
December 15:
EXPERIMENT REPORT OF NOVEMBER 12
Jerry: first accidental compound administration. Quantity 20%. The subject, who died immediately, came back to life, developing strength and aggression in an anomalous way. Mutated state duration: 45 seconds. Second voluntary administration. Quantity 25%. After death, the subject came back to life again, with greater strength and aggression than the previous one. Mutated state duration, 30 seconds;
Tom: voluntary compound administration. Quantity 85% (overdose). The subject developed an immediate first mutation without dying, doubling in his size in a very short time. Duration 5 seconds. A second mutation, immediately afterwards, caused an extreme losing of his muscle's strength, and a decreasing in size 'till he became littler than before. Each time the subject was hit he underwent a further mutation, until he reached the size of an insect, almost as if it were a ploy of his body to hide more easily. Was the toxin defending him? Interesting phenomenon that will need to be explored further. After about two minutes he regained his normal appearance.
REPORT PART II
The videos of the CCTV cameras that I had installed in the house captured one of the flies coming into contact with the mixture prepared by the cat. After dying, the fly came back to life and flew away, without apparent changes. Could it explain the flies invasion, and the fact that one fly seemed to dominate the others? I will return to the laboratory and proceeded to capture the surviving insects. If I can make it...
December 18: I managed to extract the DNA of one of the insects and injected it into a toad, causing it to grow in strength and size. The mutation appears permanent and not temporary. The properties of this toxin are amazing, and on invertebrates and reptiles it doesn't even seem that unstable. Ozwell told me that he consulted his architect to complete that villa he has in the Arklay Mountains, and equip it with a laboratory in order to better study the virus we have renamed "Progenitor". I can't wait to get to work! I hope, one day, to find out what effect this substance has on human beingsā¦
