Fall Writing Prompt #6: Sara catches a cold...I shouldn't have to explain the rest XD.
Sara thought this was going to be a regular morning. But she was wrong.
Normally Sara would wake up, and get ready for the day then head to the castle kitchen to see if Nia and Arundelle needed help, but if they didn't, she'd head to the library and spend the whole day there with Janner, and maybe even Artham. Normally the teenager (Sara was 17) would follow this routine every day all year, until winter came.
Not today though.
Today Sara woke up with a cold.
She sat up in bed, and sneezed. She looked out the window and saw the sun starting to rise in the horizon.
Great, just the day to be sick, she thought. Today the royal family had to make an appearance as the king of Skree and the Keeper of the Hollows would be coming for a gathering of the world leaders. The royal families were supposed to get to know each other in order that the relationships between the countries would be strong and on good terms. Being sort of adopted into the royal family, Sara was also supposed to go.
Not today, though.
Sara coughed, and laid back down. She felt horrible. Which was not good, because if she couldn't get up, someone else would have to take care of her.
Right at that second, someone knocked on her door.
"Come in." Sara managed to mumble, suddenly going into a coughing fit.
Janner peeked his head inside. "Hey-oh, you look sick. You have a cold?"
Sara nodded, still coughing, as Janner came in and sat on the edge of her bed.
"I'm guessing you're not going to come to the appearance then, huh?"
"Nope, I can't get everyone sick. Especially you, Leeli, or Kal." She sneezed.
Janner chuckled. "Well, this gives me a good excuse."
"Excuse?"
Janner laughed. "To stay behind! You think I wanted to go to that meeting, with a bunch of snobby royals?"
Sara managed a weak smile. "Good point. But how's this a good excuse?"
Janner shrugged. "You're not feeling well. You need someone to take care of you."
Sara just stared at him. "You can't be serious."
Janner nodded, while grinning. "I am. I reaaaaally don't want to go, especially with Kal who's going to probably pull some pranks. Uncle Artham handles him better than I do."
Sara shook her head. "I get not wanting to go, but I don't need anyone to take care of me, and you, you're a Jewel of Anniera! You need to be there!"
Janner shook his head. "We're only going as Annieran royals, not as the Jewels. Uncle Artham is a Throne Warden, like I said, he can take my place."
Sara sighed. "No. You're going. That's the end of it."
Janner dramatically sighed, and laid on her bed, on his back, facing her. "Please? I'll be good!"
Sara tried to hide her laughter. She knew that the only time Janner ever acted like a little kid was when he wanted something.
And his little trick only ever worked on her.
"Fiiine, since you're practically begging to stay," Sara gave in.
Janner grinned. "I have no shame in begging."
"Yeah yeah, go let everyone else know you're staying."
Janner grinned again and kissed her cheek.
"You're probably gonna get sick now." Sara laughed.
Janner shrugged. "Hey, I don't mind."
The Wingfeather family had been gone for about an hour, when Sara started to feel tired. Janner had shown no signs of getting sick, or if he had, he was hiding them very well.
Their whole day had mostly consisted of them having reading competitions ("I finished the 11th chapter." "Ha! I'm on the 15th chapter!"), or just talking to each other about totally random things ("Remember when Kal's pants fell off in the middle of the meeting?").
Sara coughed, and Janner quickly handed her a cup of water.
"What?" Sara asked, once her coughing fit finished.
"Whenever I was sick, and coughed, Ma would give me water and it always helped." Janner replied.
Sara took the cup and drank some water. Almost instantly she noticed her throat wasn't bothering her anymore.
"Thanks." She mumbled, laying down, suddenly feeling tired.
Janner chuckled, and pulled her blanket up on her. "Anytime."
Not really realizing what she was doing, she cuddled up next to Janner and immediately fell asleep.
Janner smiled down at his girlfriend, glad that she was actually getting some rest, then fell asleep too.
"Oh my gosh they look so cute together!"
"Kal! Stop gagging! You're going to wake them up!"
"I wonder if they know we're back yet."
Janner started to wake up, and could dimly register other voices in his room.
Wait, this wasn't his room.
Memories from the previous day flooded back to him, and he immediately sat up, waking Sara up with him.
"Ah, you're awake now." Artham said, grinning.
Janner rubbed his eyes, as Sara glared at everyone.
"Yes, lets have a family reunion in my room." She muttered sarcastically.
"We got back from the meeting and found you two like this. Have a nice nap?" Leeli laughed.
"How long were we out for?" Janner asked.
"Oh, we found you two asleep when we got back, so Nia said to leave you two alone, and you guys slept all night." Artham said nonchalantly.
"Wait-ALL NIGHT?!" Janner was now wide awake.
Everyone else laughed.
"We've been asleep almost all day yesterday, and then all night?" Sara asked, uncertainty.
Kal nodded, choking laughter.
Janner coughed, making everyone back away from the bed.
"Uh-oh. She got you sick." Kal chuckled.
Janner ignored him and sneezed.
Artham waved everyone out. "We should let them rest, but I'll tell Nia and Arundelle and have them make you two some soup."
"Thanks." Sara mumbled, yawning.
Artham chuckled at them both, then walked out.
"Great, so this is how it feels to be sick." Janner said, sadly.
Sara laughed. "I told you that you'd get sick!"
Janner laughed too. "Hey, since I'm also sick, at least I can do this." He leaned over and kissed her.
She pulled away after a few moments, laughing.
The End.
