(Spoiler Warning if you haven't read the manga or seen the return of bleach 2023)

'To think that 3000 years would end like this...' an old man with a missing arm thought to himself.

He is standing unflinchingly in the rain and amongst ruins of the soul society, and as if he were a statue made from chiseled stone showing no emotion to the foe before him. He wouldn't give him the satisfaction.

Yamamoto Genryuusai, the head captain of the Gotei 13, leader of the first division for a majority of his life for non other had a zanpaktou as strong as his, the man who ended the tyranny of Yhwach son of the soul king once before finds himself without his bankai and at the mercy of the merciless Yhwach.

No words were exchanged between them; the fight was over, and everything had been said and done over a millennium ago. Anything said at this point would be superfluous or mocking.

No words were exchanged even as Yhwach swung his sword at Yamamoto for the last time. The act bisecting him from shoulder to waist. Even through this Yamamoto had but a single thought.

I've truly gone soft to allow a fool like him to defeat me.

The single thought triggered a cascade of follow up ones as though the floodgates to his mind were released. He also thought of the consequences of his death. His students would mourn and the soul society would fall into chaos, but he had trained them well and even if they somehow didn't rise to stop Yhwach he knew Kisuke had something up his sleeve, and should all else fail he will place his faith on that orange haired trouble maker. Not like he has much of a choice.

As the top half of his body hit the ground the last thoughts he had were, ' 3000 years and I must leave these youngsters to deal with my regrets... how shameful... how damning...'

His vision grew dark in but a single second, even if that second felt like centuries. Vision was the second thing he lost after becoming unable to feel the rough ground beneath him.

He heard footsteps approaching towards him at an agonizingly slow pace. The sound of the rain seemed to be slowing down making less and less noise and almost coming to a complete stop. He strained his ears and listened until he could hear no more for in the time it took for him to listen to the next drop fall, Yamamoto Genryusai was no more.

The rain continues and feels almost harsher than before, it feels as though the afterlife itself is mourning and shedding tears for the loss of titan from a time long gone.

In the howling wind amidst the chaos and battles in the soul society, a quiet wish made at death's door is carried far into the sky.

'...How I wish I had taught them more.'

[Do you want to live?]

[Yes/No]

'... What or whose cruel machinations is this' thought the soul of Yamamoto, who should very much be dead, as he stared at a bright blue box in a pitch black void.

'I know I died. I felt the strength leave my soul and nobody could have defeated or even stalled Yhwach and at the same time rescue me considering the state that I was in.' He reasoned to himself for a while and came to a grim conclusion.

'This means that either this odd blue box is the afterlife to the afterlife I governed or more likely Yhwach found a way to mess with the sanctity of death in the afterlife.' The thought of the latter being real and the most likely made Yamamoto feel his very being heat up in an unfamiliar and uncharacteristic rage.

Yamamoto for once in many millennia tried to scream out in rage, in frustration at the reality that Yhwach had decimated everything he had fought to create, to protect, to raise.

No sound was made, no matter how much he tried to lash out, to scream, to do anything, he was trapped as a formless soul.

Time passed. Yamamoto didn't know how long; it was kind of hard to tell time when you were incorporeal and stuck in a void. Enough time had passed for him to regain his wits, at least.

With resolute resolve Yamamoto decided there is only one path forward,

'Even if I must play whatever sick games you have planned for me I will make sure you regret making me unable to pass on Yhwach, mark my words!' He thought into the void as he focused back on the blue screen and focused mentally on selecting [Yes] .

[Welcome to the Teaching System!]

[The system has analyzed your cause of death as being weak!]

Yamamoto stared, "The audacity to call me we-"

[Now you may think something along the lines of "me weak?" and unfortunately that's the reality of being a big fish in a small pond!]

Yamamoto wanted to snarl, at the screen for calling him weak when in 3,000 years no shinigami stronger than him had been born and at Yhwach for whatever twisted enjoyment he was probably getting out of this

[You at the peak of your strength were rated 3-B, while that certainly is powerful you were nowhere near the level of being able to take a swing at Yhwach who is rated as a peak strength of 2-C]

'How pointless, I already know he was stronger than me and yet he feels the need to rub it in with some arbitrary numbering system' Thought Yamamoto as he read through the text.

Tier 1: Extra Dimensional

Once again Yamamoto stared, as he absorbed the information. He found it odd that Yhwach didn't rate himself as the highest tier as he thought that man would certainly be arrogant enough to place himself at the top. As he became absorbed in his thoughts the box once again showed new text.

[Now the point for all this is that with the system you will become strong, stronger than you could have ever imagined]

Stranger and stranger, the more he read the less he understood. He was sure Yhwach was behind this, but if so why offer this illusion of power, why waste his time on him when he could be doing whatever it is madmen do once they win, why does his gut tell him there's more going on?

[This system was designed to be simple and based on your wish at death's door]

He was shocked. How could Yhwach have known that?! He never voiced it aloud and furthermore he wa-

[In order to get stronger you will be thrown into random realities and pick or have a student assigned to you. You will be given skills to teach students and can gain more via quests or loot. The rewards of teaching a student are that you will simply get conceptually stronger instead of having arbitrary numbers representative of your stats and having to manage them]

Once again he got cut off in the middle of his musings, if he didn't know better he would say the box was doing that on purpose.

He supposed he would enjoy the simplicity of the system, even if it felt like an insult for some reason

[Now knowing all this, would you like to live again]

[Yes/No]

Yamamoto sighed and closed his eyes. Truly he didn't know what to think. It could still be Yhwach messing with him in some way, but that felt less and less likely. Was this really another chance? Did he even deserve it after failing the soul society in such a catastrophic manner?

No. He can't hesitate. If it is Yhwach then he will tear his way out whatever world or illusion he finds himself in and if it isn't he will strengthen himself to never let another Yhwach exist.

With his resolve once again sharpened Yamamoto selects [Yes]

[...loading world]

[Randomizing selection]

[World Selected!]

[Transferring to: ...Remnant!]

Light filled the void and in a flash Yamamoto was gone.

[Welcome to Remnant!]

Blinking the spots out of his vision the first thing Yamamoto saw was endless brown and green ...and blue but the annoying box didn't count.

He was in a forest of some sort. Trees everywhere as far as the eye could see. More importantly he had his body back! Everything from the cane to his clothes was on him.

Yamamoto examined his scarred arm, he certainly felt alive, but he could not trust only his 5 senses and so he mediated and reached into his soul looking for a response, and response he did receive.

Ryujin Jakka was for lack of a better word in discord. How could he not be, a zanpaktou is the representation of the soul of a shinigami as they manifest they lend their power to their wielder. Except that Ryujin Jakka had part of him stolen and let Yamamoto die.

The zanpaktou didn't feel incomplete only in disarray so he could assume whatever brought him here managed to somehow restore him. Even if his sword spirit was a bit distressed Yamamoto felt great relief as having his soul manifestation be with him on this new journey.

Yamamoto was brought out of his musings when the blue box suddenly invaded his field of view again.

[Attention!]

[For this world automatic student has been selected: Jaune Arc]

[You may pick up your own students, but to complete the world quest and leave this world behind you must forge him into someone who can change their own fate]

'Hmm...'

The fact that he wouldn't get to choose his student this time rankled him a bit, but in the end it did not matter whoever he got as a student they would either get stronger or break. If they broke he would reforge them into something stronger.

[You have been assigned skills to help you in this endeavor! Please say 'Skills' to bring up the skill menu]

"You don't actually expect me to say this out loud every time I need access to this menu, right?" I spoke aloud in the direction of the blue box

'I have a theory that there's something behind the box communicating to me but I have no real way to find out. For my curiosity though I was rewarded... with absolutely nothing except the sounds of the forest'

*sigh*

"Skills" He said in an almost defeated tone

[Skills]

[Teaching: 45/100]

[Transference: 1/100]

[No pain, No gain: 55/100]

looking over his 3 skills Yamamoto didn't know what to think, what did they do? did they-

[By the way you can access your [Skills] menus and other options by thinking about them with the intent to open]

Yamamoto knew what to think, he thought the blue box was a little bastard.

With an annoyed sigh he waved his hand through the screen and tried to dismiss it.

It wasn't working. How does he close this damned bo-

[In order to locate the target please say "Objective" to see an arrow pointing in the target's direction, once the target is within sight they will be highlighted]

Ceasing his increasingly futile attempt to rid himself of the blue annoyance in his sight Yamamoto decided to just comply

"Objective" he spoke and as he did a blue arrow pointing to his left popped up.

With nothing better to do Yamamoto started his journey in the direction of his new student. Lucky them they were going to get his exclusive teaching.

(AN: Hey so give me reviews and actually constructive criticism, and better yet if you're a good writer take this story off my hands. I want to read not write, but nobody does the trope of throwing someone insanely power into a universe and having them change the canon forever, like at best they just have them solve the problem directly, and I mean like I guess that's fine, but c'mon that's boring and we don't see their impact on the world. ANYWAYS I'm talking a lotta shit for someone with amateur writing skills, c ya)
