As soon as Eri woke up she realized that something was wrong. Her head was aching, and her throat was scratchy. She also felt extremely tired and sweaty.
Whatever it was cauing her misery, made her feel like she had in the hospital when she had first woke up after being rescued.
The thought about the last time she felt like this made her freeze. When she had woken up in the hospital she had been scared. She had been so unsure of what was happening or if she was truly safe.
It didn't take long for the unfamiliar nurses to send in someone familiar from the raid- later it was explained to her that he was the pro hero Eraserhead and would be taking care of her from then on.
In that moment though all he told her was that she was safe and that he was one of Deku's teachers. It hadn't taken long for her to start crying in relief that her being resucued wasn't just a dream.
Deku and the other heros did come back for her and they did succeed in rescuing her like they promised.
Still as she sat there for the first several weeks she couldn't help but hear Overhauls voice telling her over and over again that they didn't care for her.
It was something that the actual Overhaul- not just the voice of him in her head had told her once they had gotten back from her attempt to runaway. In fact it was something he kept repeating to her over and over again and even made her say.
"They don't care about you Eri."
"But-"
*slap*
"Eri, repeat after me. They don't care about you."
"T-they d-dd-don't care about mm-me."
"That's right Eri, they don't care about you. They don't care about you. They won't ever care about you. They will never rescue you. They will never see you again. Do you know why Eri?"
"C-c-cause th-they d-d-d-on't care about m-me..."
"Good girl. Remember that. They don't care about you."
While Eri originally struggled with the idea of having so many people care about her she eventually realized it was the truth. Knowing the truth didn't cause her not to still doubt it on bad days though.
When she had bad days the words she was forced to say would echo in her head but time and time again people like Deku, Lemillion, and Aizawa proved to her that they did care for her.
It seemed like today would be another bad day- but this time for more than her head getting stuck in her past with Overhaul.
Though something about the unpleasant way she was feeling did bring back those memories and made her feel incredibly small. A big part of her wanted to crawl under her bed and hide there until the pain went away.
Another part of her remembered how it felt to be cared for by Aizawa and the others. She thought about the gentle hands that would brush through her hair and wrap around her in a warm hug.
Making up her mind Eri struggled out of bed and pushed herself out towards the living room. She was dissapointed but not surprised to find the room lacking in people.
She vaugley recalled having made plans the previous day for Aizawa to take her, Deku, Lemillion, and a couple of their friends out for the day. Due to that he told her that he'd be going over some lesson plans with the other teachers in the common room when she woke up.
At the time she had been eager to agree but now she wished she didn't have to make her way all the way down the stairs.
"Hey Eri, me and Deku over here were talking about heading off campus tomorrow to maybe show you around to some of our favorite places!" An overly excited Lemillion shouted.
"Yeah, Eri! We were asking Aizawa-sensei about it and he said that it was fine. He'd even join us, along with a few of our other friends. Does that sound fun to you?"
"Yeah! You can take me to all the best places you've been talking about! That would be so much fun!" Eri said letting her excitement take control.
She bounced over to her caretaker and started jumping up and down, feeling a wide smile spread across her face, "Can we please, do it!"
"Alright... We'll leave after breakfast. I'll have to get up early and talk to the other teachers about some lesson plans we have scheduled so I won't be in the apartment when you wake up. You'll have to find your own way down for breakfast."
"Yay! Alright, I will!" Eri shouted as she bounced back over to her two favorite heroes.
She really was beginning to regret agreeing so easily to making her way downstairs by herself as she left the cozy apartment.
Still she really wanted the comfort of her caretaker so besides her absolutley miserable state she pushed herself down the stairs.
Usually she'd rush down the stairs but even the thought of moving that made her nauseous so she took her time to slowly inch down.
When she eventually reached the common room she was met with the sight of the teachers gathered around on the couches, talking with papers in between them.
Besides feeling slightly bad for interupting Eri continued foward to where she knew Aizawa would be sitting in his favorite chair.
As she drew closer the other teachers started to notice her and address her in concern.
She felt happy that they cared but chose to ignore them in order to get towards the only one she really wanted. By the time she reached the chair Aizawa had already pushed himself to the edge and had his attention fully on her.
Eri met his eyes and lifted her hands signalling that she wanted up. He didn't hesitate to grab her and pull her up to his lap, something that Eri let happen without complaint.
"Are you all right, Eri? You don't look too good." Aizawa said as he stroked her hair.
Eri snuggled into his chest, closing her eyes as a few coughs forced themselves from her throat.
"Hmm... don't feel good... wanted you..."
Eri ignored the movement that was going on around her as she got cozy against her caretaker. It wasn't until a few minutes later that she finally acknowledged those around her when she was addressed once again.
"Eri, I need you to open your mouth."
She obeyed and cracked opened her mouth as something slid inside, settling under her tounge.
"Perfect, just like that. Now hold still."
Once again she listened and waited until the obeject was removed to peak open one of her eyes just enough to see what was in front of her.
She noted that she was still in Aizawa's arms and that Recovery Girl had joined the group at some point and seemed to be checking in on how she was doing.
Deciding that she didn't need to be apart in whatever the grown ups were doing she closed her eyes again and pushed further into the warmth of her caretaker, letting herself fall into a gentle sleep.
The next time Eri woke up she didn't know what was happening. She woke up feeling worse than before and was scared. The first thing she thought to do was push out of the bed she found herself in and hide, only to find herself stopped by hands grabbing her shoulders pushing her back.
In her dazed state she started to freak out and did her best to fight the hands. She knew she wasn't being fully rational but she was scared- had Overhaul somehow found her?
With that thought in mind she felt her horn ache and felt power flow through her. The hands that had been trying to force her to stay down ripped away at her power.
She used her new freedom to weakly push herself off the bed. She fell down the side with a tumble and could hear someone shouting at her as she struggled to get to the far corner under her bed.
The unleashed power from her quirk was only making her feel weaker as the seconds passed. Then suddenly the overwhelming power stopped and her quirk felt empty- it was a familiar feeling, a feeling that only came from Aizawa's quirk.
Eri looked up in a dazed gasp and made contact with dark colored eyes conected to a face that was poking out of the bed sheets that were slipping down from the top of her bed. Before she knew it Eri found herself pushing out of the corner into his arms.
She sobbed into his chest as he lifted her up and then crawled into bed with her, holding her close. Exhaustion overtook her as she did her best to apologize for freaking out. Aizawa just continued to rub her back as he pulled up blankets around her.
Eventually someone answered her but the voice didn't come from Aizawa like she was expecting, it came from the other end of the room-
"Sorry, Eri. You started thrashing around and we were worried you were going to hurt yourself so we tried to stop you while we called Aizawa-sensei back to the room incase your quirk went off. Sorry, it scared you so bad Eri."
Eri looked over her shoulder at where Deku and Lemillion were standing a good distance away. She looked them over afraid that she hurt them with her quirk in her panic. Once she noticed that they both relatively looked how they should she relaxed.
"S-s-ssowwy..." She managed to mumble out passed her tears.
"No, Eri don't worry about it! Really we're both fine!" Deku shouted scooting slightly closer until he was at the end of her bed.
"Yeah! Look at us as good as can be! Are you alright, Eri?" Lemillion said joining Deku.
She nodded her head before thinking it over and shaking it.
"H-h-h-hurts..."
This time Aizawa was the one to answer, "I know Eri. You're sick right now. Remember we talked about how that could happen. You'll be alright, you just need to get lots of rest and take some medicine to make you feel better.
Hmm... that made sense. Eri remembered learning about how people could get sick after Deku had to miss hanging out with her because he had a cold.
"W-wait so other people get sick too?"
"Yes, Eri. It's a normal thing that happens. Everybody gets colds and other diseases at some point in their life." Aizawa said with a sigh.
"S-so it's not just me? H-h-he always said I felt like that because I was a c-curse and that if I hung out with other people when I felt like that I'd spread my curse."
"He was wrong. It's not from you and you're not cursed Eri. Though sickness does spread but not because of you being cursed- it's why you can't go see Deku. Not only does he not feel well but the sickness he has could spread to you."
"O-o-oh... I'll make Deku a card so he can feel better!"
"Sounds good, Eri."
For the rest of the time that Eri was sick Aizawa, along with Deku, Lemillion, and everyone else took care of her. Deku along with his classmates even made her a get well soon card like she had for Deku. Meanwhile Eri made sure to listen to their advice about getting lots of rest and take her medicine when she was told to.
By the end of the week Eri was feeling much better and was finally allowed to go off campus with the others and complete the plans they originally made when she had gotten sick.
While being sick was not fun, it did remind Eri about how much the others cared for and that she'd always be loved. So it really wasn't much of a surprise when the following week when Aizawa got sick that Eri did her best to take care of him like he had for her.
Eri smiled knowing that she was loved by her family and that she would get to show them her love like they did for her.
