Chapter 3: A Childhood Lost

Samuel sat on his knees as the pack surrounded him. He remembered the argument his parents had the night before this.

His mother argued that he was just a child.

His father argued that it was his destiny and they wouldn't fight it.

Sam didn't know what to do.

He wanted to admit he was scared

But his father said warriors show no fear.

Sam tried not to be afraid but he couldn't help it. He was surrounded by huge wolves. They were growling and snapping at each other.

Sam was in a circle a fire in front of him.

He was naked and tried to cover himself but it was no use.

The wolves stopped their pacing as they began to howl. All of them bowed their heads as a black wolf with glowing yellow eyes came out of the forest. He was huge with long scars across his muzzle.

The wolf crept toward him as drums played in the distance.

Sam trembled. He just wanted to go home. He didn't want this. He didn't want to be here.

The wolf stopped in front of him. Four legs turned into two and then he was faced with the half-naked form of his father. A simple loincloth hung between his legs.

"Da-"

"Silence!" his father roared.

It was then everything and everyone around them went silent. The drums stopped and the wolves bowed their heads.

Sam trembled before him.

"Samuel Uley. Born into the Uley clan. Blood of my blood, the seed of my seed. Today I call forth your wolf. Tonight I call forth your destiny."

Sam swallowed hard. He didn't want this. Not now.

He wanted to cry and beg. But before he could, he heard a feminine voice scream.

"Joshua no! please! Don't do this! He's too young!"

Samuel looked up and gasped. It was his mother. She was crying. Begging on his behalf.

"SILENCE!" his father roared as he ignored his mother. But she didn't listen.

"Please, Joshua! He's only seven! He's too young! He won't be able to handle it!"

His father motioned toward his mother and someone dragged her away as she screamed.

Sam almost peed himself as his father's eyes glowed.

"BRING OUT THE COLD ONE!" he ordered.

Sam trembled as red eyes and white skin appeared out of the darkness. it looked human but something about this human terrified him.

As they brought this person closer, Samuel stood and backed away. But strong arms forced him back into place. A horrified scream left his lips as the creature growled.

"This my child, is the reason for our wolves. This creature here is an abomination. This creature feeds off the life force of others. It harms all humans and there is no compromise. It is a vampire pup and it is evil. All of them are evil! Your destiny! Your purpose is to destroy them!" his father explained.

Sam looked at the vampire just a few feet from him. He didn't understand. There were so many things he didn't understand. Just yesterday he was playing with his friends and now he was faced with this… this thing…?

"let it go." His father ordered.

Samuel froze.

He was going to let it go? As in let it attack him?

"son. This is your destiny. You are the next alpha of the pack. if you don't survive this. It was never meant to be. Corner them!" his father ordered.

No, no, no, no. This couldn't be happening! this couldn't be happening! That thing, that vampire was going to get him!

Samuel turned to beg his father to stop, to not let him die but he didn't get time to think. His father gave the order.

"let the cold one go!"

Samuel screamed. The thing, the vampire… it was coming towards him! Its fangs were exposed. In the blink of an eye. The vampire was in front of him, its hands wrapped around his throat.

"you will be the first to die child!" it hissed. It was then something happened. His nose began to smell something disgusting. Something like fire was crawling up his spine. His bones were breaking.

The pain! The heat! It hurt!

And then Samuel felt himself explode. His teeth biting something gross.

And then everything was black.

….

"oh, oww." Samuel groaned when he finally opened his eyes.

He was in his room. his body hurt. His head hurt. He could hear whispering.

"I hate you Joshua Uley. I hate you! I will never forgive you for what you did to my baby."

It was his mother. She sounded sad.

A rough voice laughed. It belonged to his father.

"he's not a baby, Alison. He is now the alpha of the future pack. he has to start his training. It's going to start tomorrow. You can't baby him, Alisson."

"Baby him! Baby him! He's seven years old!"

"and he's going to be a strong warrior who will lead our people. He will be the alpha and the chief of this tribe!"

Samuel tuned out the argument as he called for his mother.

"Mommy?" he groaned.

He heard footsteps and a heartbeat, and his mother tear tear-filled eyes came into view.

"my precious Sam, I am so sorry."

"Mommy, my body hurts." He groaned.

"I know baby. Are you thirsty?"

"yes please."

It was then, that his father appeared at the door.

Sam felt fear fill him.

His father chuckled.

"enjoy the fear now boy, 'cause when im done with you, Fear will fear you."

And with that said, his father walked out of the room and out of the house.

His mother cried.

Samuel could do nothing but cave into exhaustion.
