Eris let out a cry of frustration as she went through the mail. She threw the pile onto the kitchen table and slammed her hands down on the wooden surface as she leaned heavily against it.
"The catalog book for the bookshop still hasn't arrived yet?" Clark asked as his large hands came to rest against her hips, and his thumbs ran gentle circles over the soft flesh between her shirt and leggings.
"No. It was supposed to arrive days ago. How am I going to be able to open the bookstore if I can't even choose the decor? I've got all of the books in storage just waiting to be put on display." She lowered her chin to her chest and heaved a heavy sigh.
"I want this bookstore to be more than just a bookstore. I want it to be a place people can go to read as well. A mix between a bookstore and a library. Only, the books can't be checked out, and if they damage the books, they have to buy them. I want people to be able to read a bit of the books comfortably. And maybe, just maybe they like the book enough to buy it." She rambled.
Clark smiled softly and tried his best to comfort his frustrated wife.
Clark gazed around the room, noticing that they still had a lot of boxes to unpack. The move had been simple. Unpacking had not been as simple.
"Mom? Dad?"
Eris turned and spotted Jon peeking at them from the door leading to the living room.
"Yeah, baby?" She straightened up and went to her son, carding her fingers through his hair, and he leaned into her touch.
He drew his hand, which she realized had been hidden behind his back and thrust a piece of paper into her chest.
She chuckled and unruffled the sheet so she could look at it. Her eyes skimmed the paper, and she looked up and shot wide eyes over towards Clark.
She handed the paper over when he came to a rest at her side.
Clark read the paper and shot wide eyes down at their son.
"You want to join soccer?" Clark asked, slightly shocked.
Jon nodded with excitement. "I wanted to join football like you did, dad, but I'm not old enough. The teacher said I couldn't join that until I'm a freshman." His smile was so wide it made Eris smile right back at him.
"Soccer sounds like fun!" Clark grinned and swept Jon up into his arms and swung him in a circle.
Jon squealed out and burst into a giggling mess of a boy.
"I never played it myself, but I bet you will love it!"
As the giggles settled down, Jon frowned and looked down at his feet. He kicked at the floor with his bare foot.
"Jon?" Clark asked cautiously, the sudden mood change worrying him.
"Did we move here because of us? Did Jordan and I do something wrong?" He asked quietly.
Eris knelt before Jon and gently took his hands in hers. "Jon... I thought you wanted this?"
Jon's head shot up, and he frantically nodded his head. "I do! But you and dad had to quit everything! Work, and, and the store!"
Clark sighed softly and knelt right beside his wife. He forgot they hadn't told them he had been fired. At a time, they still needed an excuse for his sudden absence at times.
"Jon. We came here so that your father and I would be around more often. So, we would have more time as a family." Eris reassured Jon and pulled the boy into her arms, who snuggled in close and wrapped his tiny arms around her midriff.
"We also moved here to feel closer to your grandparents and so I could teach your brother how to control his powers easier." Clark added. He gently ran his hand up and down Jon's back.
"You like the school here better, right?" Eris asked and smiled as she felt him nod against her. "Then this was the right thing for us to do."
Eris stumbled forward as a small body collided with her torso.
She let out a laugh as Jordan tried to meld himself to her. She attacked him with tickles to his sides, the boy bursting into hysterics as he squirmed and tried to get away.
She took her hands away and smiled widely as Jordan looked up into her eyes, face bright and happy.
"Where's Dad? I wanted to ask him why my eyes keep hurting." Jordan asked shyly as he gazed up into his mother's face.
Eris frowned in concern and cupped her boy's chin in one hand and tilted his head back and forth as she examined his eyes.
"He's out in the barn, getting the tractor ready for the fields." She pulled back when she couldn't see anything wrong. "Shall we go visit him?"
He nodded shyly and clung to her side.
She huffed out a fond chuckle and guided the boy out of the house and towards where she knew Clark was working.
They paused by the barn doors as they gazed at the scene in front of them. Clark had the tractor up in the air with one arm while he worked on something underneath it with the other.
Jordan approached his father cautiously, prying himself from his mother's side. Eris smiled and turned to leave as she heard Jordan ask Clark a question quietly.
"Clark? Are you alright?" Eris asked one night a few weeks after they had officially moved in. He was sitting in their bed, staring at the far wall with a faraway look in his eyes.
"You've really been swimming around in that head of yours lately, haven't you?" She raised a hand and ran her fingers lightly over his stubbled chin. He closed his eyes and turned to her slightly as he leaned into her touch.
His glasses were off and set on the bedside table. He wore only his boxers, looking completely comfortable and ready for bed.
Eris smiled. "There you are." She whispered softly. "That stranger in the war armor really got to you, didn't he?"
Without opening his eyes, Clark leaned forward and placed his head against her bare shoulder. The only thing covering her was her spaghetti strap nightgown.
"He seemed to know a lot about Superman. What if he knows about us, the boys, where we live?" He sounded scared. Scared that this strange man was going to ruin everything the two of them have spent so much time building.
Eris closed her eyes and held Clark close as they rearranged themselves, so they were laying down with Clark laying half on top of her.
"Dad is working on it, alright? In the meantime. We should focus on what we came here for. Us. The boys. Our family." She murmured into his hair before pressing a kiss to the top of his head.
Clark stood on the porch as he watched his family put on their shoes as they left the house. Jon had his backpack on his back, hands clinging onto the straps as he bounced in place.
"You have the uniform and cleats in there?" He asked and ruffled the boy's hair as he passed. Soccer practice started today and the boy was an absolute ball of energy.
"Yup! I'm excited. Sucks, I have to wait till after school." Jon pouted. Clark smiled fondly. He was glad that Jon was handling not having powers like his brother did. At least not yet. Maybe once he got older, but for now, he was more focused on school and soccer.
"Wait!" Eris called as Jordan bound out the door and down the steps, wearing snow pants, snow boots, gloves and a heavy winter coat. She chased after him and slipped a knitted hat over his shoulder length dark hair, pushing the curls back and away from his face. The boy had gotten his father's dark color and her curls. It truly was a lovely feature he had received from them both.
"Why do I need to wear my winter stuff?" He asked, looking up at his father in confusion.
Clark grinned in excitement. "Because I am taking you to the fortress today before mom starts school for the day to run some scans. It just so happens to be located in the Arctic."
Jordan's mouth dropped open. "What!? That's so cool!"
Eris giggled. "And in case you can't handle the cold like your father can, you have to bundle up."
Eris gave Jordan a hug before she began guiding Jon towards the truck. "We'll see you both later. Have fun and be safe." She pressed a kiss to Clark's cheek as she passed, straightened out the collar of his jean jacket before following Jon to the truck.
Eris stood with a large smile as she gazed around her newly furnished and ready to open bookstore. Set up exactly like a library, with bookshelves after bookshelves, separated by categories lining all four walls and venturing into rows on either side and in the back. In the center was the checkout counter. A large, squared oak counter with a small, hinged gate to get into the center, a checkout register on each side, four in total. There were couches with small coffee tables in the far-right back corner where people could sit to read and four tables with chairs in the back left corner.
Tomorrow she could open, and she was so excited about it.
She made her way to the left side where a small room that served as her office was. Connecting to the office was a room for their warehouse. Much larger and still filled to the brim with books.
She spotted a large vase filled with snapdragons and she melted. She approached her desk and leaned forward to smell the flowers.
She closed her eyes for a moment to bask in the beautiful aroma before pulling back to text Clark a quick thank you.
She bit her lip as she locked the glass door to the store. She gazed at the window where the name was written out in white, fancy letters, followed by some simple artwork of her favorite flower.
The Snapdragon.
Eris hummed softly to herself as she swayed back and forth in her room. She had a few hours before she had to pick Jon up from soccer practice and Jordan was in his room studying for the upcoming spelling test she would be giving him tomorrow.
Warm arms wrapped around her waist and spun her around. Lips met hers and a tongue swiped at her lips begging for entrance.
She let out a pleased hum and parted her lips to welcome the nice surprise.
She pulled back for air, legs going weak at the look in Clark's eyes.
"I take it everything went well today with Jordan?" She smiled as he pressed another deep kiss to her lips, and she sank into it.
Clark had been out in the fields since he and Jordan had gotten home. She hadn't had a chance to ask. Jordan had seemed excited though.
"I told Jordan everything. About Krypton, about all the powers I have, and he could potentially receive as well. I told him everything I could. I showed him that scene Jor El showed us all those years ago when he explained it for you." The smile never left his face. He was finally connecting more to Jordan. Jordan who had always been closer to Eris than he was to Clark.
"I told you! I knew you'd be able to connect to him more if you had just told them before. We'll have to tell Jon what you told Jordan. He deserves to know as well." Eris ran her hands up Clark's chest and gripped Clark by his shoulders.
"Oh! And before I forget, Lana invited us to a cookout at their place tomorrow afternoon after school lets out." She leaned up as Clark bent down to meet her halfway, pressing kisses to her lips and traveling down her neck.
Clark froze, pulled back and cocked his head to the side. A small frown made his lips downturn and Eris sighed.
"What's wrong?" She asked softly.
"It's your sister. She's walking up the front steps."
Eris broke away from Clark and bolted down the stairs and threw the front door open before Lois could even knock.
She threw herself at her sister and Lois stumbled back with a laugh.
"It's good to see you too, Eris. I'm so sorry I couldn't come to the funeral." Lois spoke as she pulled back with a sad smile.
Eris just shook her head and smiled. "You couldn't get out of work. We understood."
Lois smiled and glanced down at a suitcase she had resting by her side. "Mind if I stay for a while? Until I can find a place of my own?"
Eris frowned in concern. "What?"
Lois smiled shyly. "I quit the Daily planet."
Clark appeared in the open door. "What?!" He and Eris exclaimed at the same time.
Eris shook her head. "Of course, you can stay with us. But Lois, what is going on? You're gonna move to Smallville?"
Lois gave a nod. "Yes. Morgan Edge ruined the Planet. I couldn't work there anymore. I'm actually here to investigate him more. There's a paper here in town, The Gazette. I'm going to try and get hired there."
Lois began playing her hands, wringing her fingers nervously. "But I am moving here officially because I want to be closer to my family."
Eris smiled wide and pulled Lois back into a hug. "Oh, Lois. We would never turn you away."
Lois wiped at her eyes, trying not to cry. "I know. I love you guys." She whispered out.
Clark's head cocked once more, and the two girls turned to watch as he listened to something off in the distance.
"If you're here to nail Morgan edge, there is a City Council meeting at the town hall soon about the Edge Proposal. Might be a good place to start." He brought up, knowing Lois would definitely want to go.
Lois grinned. "Can I borrow a car?"
Eris giggled and shifted Clark to the side as she reached in the door to the key hoods. She paused for a moment before grabbing the key for the Camaro. A gift from Bruce.
She tossed the keys to Lois, and she frowned down at the key in confusion.
"You guys have a Chevy? I thought you preferred Ford, Clark?" Her head tilted to the side in confusion.
Clark grinned. "Oh, no. That Car is all Eris and Bruce. It's in the garage."
Eris grinned and crossed her arms as she followed Clark as he led Lois to the back garage that he had built for her behind the house. He threw the garage door up smoothly and easily and the couple watched as Lois's eyes widened and her jaw dropped.
"Holy shit!"
