Summary: Brittany and Santana decide to do a duet together after all but on Santana's terms with the song "Teenage Dream." Their performance doesn't go the way Santana expects. Set during Glee 2x04 Duets.
A/N: Short story based on this prompt from tumblr: "Can you write about how the scene in Glee would have went down if Brittana were to sing Teenage Dream (in any season you want), please?"
I've always wanted to write about Brittana and this song because the lyrics remind me so much of their relationship and it fits their voice types well, imo.

"I think we should do a duet together." Brittany mumbled in her sweet voice and Santana was pleased at how out of breath and dazed she sounded. They were tangled up together under the blonde's familiar pink and blue sheets in her childhood bedroom, still in a state of bliss after what they had been doing for the last hour.
"Hey, there's a lot of talking going on here when I just want to get my mack on," Santana chuckled in between pressing kisses to the pale, warm skin of Brittany's neck. She was so light-headed herself, lying on top of the girl, and the last thing she wanted to do was think about Glee club when she enjoying the feeling of Brittany's bare skin against hers. "If you're still able to think or even talk after what we just did, then I must be doing something wrong."
Brittany just giggled but was undeterred, piping up again a few minutes later in a whisper.
"What song should we do for our duet?"
Santana sighed and thought for a moment, realizing Brittany wasn't going to stop asking about this and it was apparently so important to her.
"We're doing Katy Perry's Teenage Dream. We'll make it really sexy and all the loser boys in that pathetic club will be drooling all over us. All the girls will be envious of us and wish they thought of this idea first."
Brittany just nodded with a smile, giving Santana this loving gaze with dreamy blue eyes that made the dark-haired girl anxious. "That's such a romantic song. It's my favourite. You really chose that for me?"
Santana sat up at that, her heart racing fast as she went into full panic mode. Brittany was getting the wrong idea completely and Santana needed to do some damage control fast. It was suspicious enough that she was always sleeping with Brittany but if they sang a romantic duet… that would definitely be undeniably gay.
"Whoa, whoa hold up. Who said anything about romantic? First of all, Santana Lopez does not do romance. This performance is all about sex because sex sells and we're clearly the hottest girls in that club so why not flaunt it? Secondly, Britt, I'm not singing this song with you because I'm in love and want to totally lez out and make ladybabies with you so just don't get any ideas."
Somewhere in the back of her mind Santana belatedly realized with embarrassment that Brittany hadn't said anything at all ever about being in love and making babies. She was beyond embarrassed that those thoughts had come to her head and she had said them out loud in the heat of the moment but she tried to hide it, covering it up by pretending to be callous.
"Okay…" Brittany sighed sadly after a long moment of awkward silence and put her hand on Santana's shoulder, pushing her off of her. Santana felt bad about seeing the completely dejected look on the other girl's face but neither of them said anything more. Santana pressed a kiss to the girl's lips, hoping to distract her, frustrated when Brittany tilted her face away and her lips landed on her cheek instead.
"Don't be like this, Brittany." Santana whined. Brittany was acting like she was being so unreasonable.
Brittany said nothing in response, still ignoring her, which only aggravated Santana more. She felt so guilty that she tried to spent the rest their time together pleasing Brittany in bed, relieved when the blonde didn't reject her advances this time.
Santana was feeling cocky as she strutted into the choir room for Glee practice that day, Brittany following behind her. They had choreographed this several times and she was certain their rendition of Teenage Dream would be a surefire hit.
"Okay! Who would like to go first?" Schue asked, clasping his hands together as he usually did and surveying each of the students to see who wanted a turn. Some students looked nervous while others were grinning confidently. His eyes landed on Santana when she shouted, putting her hand up.
"Britt and I would be more than happy to go first. We need to show you peasants how it's done, after all and we have a song prepared that's totally gonna rock your worlds."
There was a collective hum of annoyance and outrage from all groups but no one argued as Santana got up, grabbing Brittany's hand and pulling her towards the front of the class. Several of the guys wolf-whistled at both of them wearing tight jeans and revealing shirts, Mr. Schue giving them a stern, fatherly look that said he didn't approve of these types of inappropriate clothes for them at school.
She locked eyes with Brittany, sharing a smile with her and thought to herself that this would be a breeze. No one would expect this type of performance and she'd get a free trip to Breadstix with Brittany out of it. Easy as cake. Katy Perry songs were just right for both her and Brittany's voices.
The band started to play the opening notes and Santana was already posing, she and Britt standing on opposite sides. The Latina cast a sultry gaze, making sure to act the part of the sexy vixen although it was all fake because she didn't really care what the disgusting boys in their class thought. The class looked on in interest as they had never heard Brittany sing before. The blonde girl started the opening verse of the song in her clear, soft and gentle voice that was perfect for this type of pop music.
You think I'm pretty without any makeup on
You think I'm funny when I tell the punch line wrong
I know you get me, so I let my walls come down, down
As Brittany sang, Santana shivered, getting distracted from her act. There was a level of total vulnerability that slipped into her voice and Santana, knowing her so well, detected it instantly. This was Brittany sending her a message. Was this how Brittany really felt about Santana?
Brittany was looking directly into Santana's eyes as she sang the lyrics like she was singing it directly to her. She was swaying her hips, acting seductive just as Santana had directed her to when they practiced this performance but Santana wasn't expecting that she herself was going to be so affected by watching Brittany more than anyone else in the room. By the time Brittany got to the part about going all the way tonight, Santana was almost tongue-tied.
They sang the first chorus together and Santana couldn't help but notice how perfect her own hazy, soulful rasp sounded blending with Brittany's lighter, angelic tone. Wait a minute…angelic? That definitely sounded gay of her to think that.
She was supposed to be looking at the audience but her eyes and body kept turning back toward Brittany. Santana felt herself becoming increasingly emotional, her voice breaking several times and becoming embarrassingly vulnerable as she sang her own parts of the song.
Brittany continued to catch her eye constantly. She forced herself to look away from the girl and sing her parts to the class, even though she wasn't thinking about them at all - only about the girl next to her. It was like they were the only two people in the world and no one else mattered. Why did this song remind her so much of their relationship?
This was totally not how Santana envisioned this going and she was completely freaking out, sure that the others could see the redness in her face and hear the way she stuttered through some of the notes. She swallowed nervously, feeling completely self-conscious rather than her usual arrogant self and feeling like everyone around her could see through her.
Brittany on the other hand was confident and alluring the entire time, singing her lines smoothly.
Finally, Brittany began to sing the bridge and the words she was singing, combined with the way she was dancing so seductively made Santana feel breathless.
I'ma get your heart racing in my skin-tight jeans
Be your teenage dream tonight
Let you put your hands on me in my skin-tight jeans
Be your teenage dream tonight
Brittany was right up in Santana's personal space by the end of it and Santana couldn't think about anything other than how much she wanted to do the things Brittany was telling her to do through that song. They ended the song on a bang with that as the final lyric, standing just inches in front of each other breathless.
There was an awkward, confused hum among the students as the song ended and Santana realized several seconds too late that it was weird how closely she and Brittany were standing to each other, with this tension between them that could be cut with a knife. She forced herself to move away, putting space between them.
Finally there were a few random, polite claps but nothing like the resounding applause Santana imagined they would get. Santana felt like she would die of embarrassment and it was like she was totally exposed, all of her deepest, repressed feelings for Brittany exposed to all of these people. Mr. Schue was the first one to say something, breaking the silence.
"Wow, Santana and Brittany! That was…really something. While I commend your efforts, that song was a little inappropriate for Glee club and it felt like we were intruding on a private moment there… while it was very romantic for the two of you, next time you should sing to the audience instead of to each other."
"We weren't… we weren't singing to each other!" Santana lied, her heart beating out of her chest. Mr. Schue and the class gave her skeptical, confused looks. Santana couldn't take this anymore and completely flipped out, turning and running out of the choir room.
"Santana!" Brittany called after her. Santana ignored the girl, feeling tears come to her eyes. By the time Brittany found her somehow, Santana was sitting on the floor in an empty classroom, wiping tears of embarrassment and frustration from her eyes. She had just made a complete fool out of herself in front of the whole class. There was no way she could live this down especially after how she had run away like a loser.
"Santana, it's okay." Brittany tried to put an arm around her shoulders but Santana shrank away from her.
"No… go away, Brittany. I can't…" She began to completely break down and sob, desperate for air. She couldn't feel this way for Brittany. "I can't…I just can't like you okay…and now everyone knows about us…"
Brittany bit her lip, just watching her quietly but not running away regardless of how much Santana tried to push her away.
"Santana, I-"
"I said don't!" Santana responded firmly and it came out as an angry growl, her dark eyes flashing in warning. Brittany averted her eyes sadly, her lower lip trembling as Santana cut her off.
It looked like Brittany was about to leave her alone after this rejection and something snapped inside of Santana at the sad, yearning but resigned look in those baby blue eyes. She grabbed her pale wrist, pulling her close.
Santana grabbed her face and kissed her, tangling her hand into her light hair and hearing Brittany whimper into it, not expecting it. She kissed Brittany passionately, all of the feelings she kept buried for the girl rising to the surface. Brittany grabbed her shoulders, tilting her head and parting her lips to deepen the kiss. Santana continued to press her lips against hers fiercely, pushing the girl up against the nearest wall, completely giving in to her passion and lust.
She couldn't be this attracted to Brittany but she couldn't stop wanting her no matter how hard she tried and their performance of Teenage Dream had brought all of these feelings to the surface. It was so wrong, so forbidden… and yet this girl completely held Santana's heart in her hands without even realizing it.
