Welcome to Paldea

It was around eight o' clock the next morning when the plane that Lincoln was on arrived in the Paldea Region. He slowly stirred for a while before waking up.

"W-Where am I?" asked Lincoln before he suddenly remembered what happened the previous day. How his family kicked him out of the house because of Lynn Jr's superstitious belief, wandering through downtown Royal Woods until he reached the mall where he entered that raffle to win a scholarship to an academy that taught students about mysterious creatures called Pokemon, and being the one to win it.

"Morning, Lincoln." said Travis in the seat next to Lincoln, getting his attention.

"Oh; good morning, Travis." said Lincoln. Just then, they hear an announcement from the pilot, over the plane's PA system.

"Attention, passengers; we will be arriving at our destination shortly. Please make sure your seatbelts are buckled, and that your seats are in their full, upright positions." said the pilot.

"We're almost there, Lincoln." said Travis as he buckles his seatbelt, prompting Lincoln to do the same. Five minutes later, the airplane lands on a runway, and soon comes to a stop. A stair truck puts a stairway in front of the airplane's door. People soon started exiting through it and walking down the stairs; Lincoln and Travis soon do so and step out onto the runway.

"So, this is the Paldea Region, huh?" asked Lincoln as he looked at the area around the runway.

"That it is, Lincoln." said Travis. He then leads Lincoln towards an orange van that had a white symbol that looked like a sliced orange on the side of it. As they got close, Lincoln hears some rustling coming from some nearby tall grass near a tree.

"What's that?" asked Lincoln. He then starts walking towards it.

"Lincoln, be careful." said Travis. When Lincoln got close enough, he sees a small Pokemon with orange fur, cream-colored feet and tail, yellow circles on its cheeks, and a tuft of fur on top of its head. He sees that it was trapped under a fallen tree branch.

"Hey, little guy. Do you need help?" said Lincoln, getting the Pokemon's attention. It looks at Lincoln with sad eyes before nodding. Lincoln then walks over and lifts the branch off of the Pokemon, allowing it to get free.

"That was nice of you, Lincoln." said Travis.

"I couldn't just leave it like that." said Lincoln. The Pokemon looks at Lincoln before running over to him, and leaping onto his shoulders, where it begins to nuzzle his cheek with a smile on its face.

"I think it's thanking you for helping it." said Travis.

"I guess so." said Lincoln with a smile. He suddenly hears a light growling from nearby, and soon discovers it was the Pokemon's stomach.

"Poor little guy must be hungry." said Travis. "I wonder how long it's been under that branch." Lincoln looks around and sees some blue berries (Oran Berries) near the bottom of the tree. He grabs a handful and holds them up to the Pokemon.

"Do you like these kinds of berries?" asked Lincoln. The Pokemon sniffs them for a second before eating them quickly. "I guess so."

"Okay, Lincoln. Let's get you to Mesagoza." said Travis.

"Mesagoza?" asked Lincoln.

"It's the largest city in the Paldea Region." replied Travis. "It's also where Naranja Academy is."

"Oh, okay." said Lincoln before taking the Pokemon off his shoulder, and gently setting it down on the ground. He and Travis walk to the van while Travis uses a small remote on a keychain to unlock the doors. Lincoln and Travis climb inside and shut the doors.

While Travis was putting the key in the ignition, unbeknownst to him and Lincoln, the Pokemon Lincoln helped jumped up onto the top of the van. Once Travis started the van, he started driving down a road.

As they headed towards Mesagoza, Lincoln looked outside the window, looking at the area they were passing. He saw different kinds of Pokmeon. He saw a couple of light brown, puppy like Pokmeon (Rockruff), a brown, squirrel like Pokemon (Skwovet) climbing down from a tree, a pink, deerlike Pokemon (Deerling) sniffing flowers, and a white and blue, squirrel like Pokemon (Pachirisu). He also sees two boys about his age, one with a flamingo-like Pokemon (Flamigo), and the other with a brown mongoose-like Pokemon with a yellow stripe down its back (Yungoos) facing each other. Lincoln assumes they were having a Pokemon battle. He sees a little girl running happily across a field with a white, dog-like Pokemon that looked like it had bread buns for ears (Fidough) following her.

They soon arrive at a bridge going over a river that's surrounding a large, walled-off city.

"Here we are, Lincoln; Mesagoza." said Travis. He and Lincoln exit the van and walk into the city. While they do so, the Pokemon that Lincoln helped, jumps off the van, and follows after them. As Lincoln and Travis walk towards their destination, Lincoln takes in all the sights he saw, including all the different kinds of Pokemon that were there. He also noticed that people were giving him weird looks. Lincoln thought at first that it was because of his white hair, but then he figured they were wondering why he was out walking around in his pajamas.

'Man, I can't wait to get some clean clothes to wear.' Lincoln thought to himself as he was feeling uncomfortable from the looks, he was getting. Travis notices Lincoln's discomfort, and soon notices the way people were looking at him. Seeing Lincoln's current attire, he figured out what the problem was.

"Don't worry, Lincoln." said Travis as he puts a hand on Lincoln's shoulder. "We'll be at the academy soon." They walk until they reach a very long flight of stairs, and start climbing up them, while taking a break after getting halfway up them. They soon reached the top of the stairs. Lincoln saw a gate that had the same insignia as the one on the side of Travis's van on the sides of it, that lead to what appeared to be a palace. "Welcome to Naranja Academy, Lincoln."

"This is an academy? It looks like a palace!" said Lincoln.

"It does, doesn't it." replied Travis. He leads Lincoln through the gate. As they walked to the front entrance of the academy, Lincoln notices several students wearing the same outfit, most likely the school uniform. He notices them looking at him, making him uncomfortable. They soon entered the academy. Lincoln was astounded when he saw all the tall bookshelves around the entrance area, they were in.

"Whoa." Lincoln said in awe. Travis led Lincoln down a hallway until they reached an office door and knocks on it.

"Who is it?" a male voice asked from the other side of the door.

"It's me, Travis. I'm back from America." replied Travis.

"Oh, come in." said the man. Travis opens the office door and leads Lincoln inside. Sitting behind a desk in the office was an elderly man with gray hair, a small beard, wearing an orange jacket over a black dress shirt, white dress pants and shoes. "Hello, Travis, how was your trip?"

"It was fine." said Travis. He then motions at Lincoln. "This is our newest student, Lincoln Loud; Lincoln, this is Mr. Clavell, the director of Naranja Academy."

"Pleased to meet you, sir." Lincoln said to the man, now identified as Mr. Clavell.

"Likewise." replied Mr. Clavell. He then notices Lincoln's current outfit. "Pardon me for asking, but why are you in your pajamas, and why are you so dirty?" Lincoln looks down with sadness on his face.

"Actually, sir; Lincoln was homeless back in Royal Woods." said Travis.

"You were homeless? What happened to your family to make you like that?" asked Mr. Clavell. Lincoln then starts telling him about how he ended up kicked out of his house. When he finished his story, it was safe to say that Mr. Clavell, and Travis were not happy with what they just heard.

"Your own family kicked you out onto the streets over a silly superstition?!" asked Travis.

"Travis! You should've called the police about what his family, and I'm using that word very loosely, did to him!" said Mr. Clavell.

"I didn't know, sir!" said Travis. "If I did, I would've called the police immediately!"

"I'm sorry I didn't mention that." said Lincoln. "I just didn't like thinking about how I was treated." After a minute, Mr. Clavell and Travis both calmed down.

"Perhaps destiny found it necessary that you won the scholarship in order to give you a chance at a better life here." said Mr. Clavell. "Thank you, Travis. I'll take things from here."

"Yes, Mr. Clavell." said Travis. "I hope you enjoy your time here, Lincoln."

"Thank you, Travis." said Lincoln. Travis then exits the office, leaving Mr. Clavell and Lincoln alone together.

"Now then, Lincoln." Mr. Clavell. "Let's get you cleaned up."

"Yeah, I really could use a shower." said Lincoln.

"I'll show you where your dorm room is." said Mr. Clavell. "It has its own bathroom that has a shower in it you can use." Lincoln's eyes widen with joy.

"My...own...bathroom." said Lincoln.

"Something wrong?" asked Mr. Clavell.

"No. It's just that in a large family, living in a house with only one bathroom, using it is really hard." said Lincoln.

"I can only imagine." said Mr. Clavell. He and Lincoln leave the office and Mr. Clavell leads Lincoln towards his dorm room. As they walk through the halls, Lincoln sees more students giving him looks, making him uncomfortable again. Noticing this, Mr. Clavell gives the students a stern glare, making them look away. They soon arrive at Lincoln's dorm room where Mr. Clavell takes a keycard out of his pocket and puts it into the slot on the door, unlocking it. They walked into the room. Lincoln examines the dorm room with awe on his face. He sees a small kitchen area that had a microwave, a small fridge, and a hot plate. A small part of the room had a bed with a metal bedframe with an orange blanket with the Naranja Academy symbol on it, along with white bedsheets and pillow. Behind the bed was an armoire for his future uniforms. There was also a desk with a computer, along with school supplies on it, shelves above it, and a swivel chair that had a black backpack hanging from the back of it.

"Whoa. This is way bigger than my old room back in Royal Woods." said Lincoln. Mr. Clavell then opens a door that was in the room, revealing a bathroom behind it. Inside the bathroom was a toilet, a sink with a cup containing an orange toothbrush, toothpaste, and comb; and a shower stall with a towel rack with an orange towel with the Naranja Academy insignia on it next to it. Lincoln gawks at it as if he was staring at the gates of Heaven.

"I'll let you get cleaned up." said Mr. Clavell. "I'll just need your clothing sizes, so I know what size uniforms to get you." Lincoln tells him, then walks into the bathroom while Mr. Clavell exits the dorm room. Lincoln looks into the shower stall and saw there was a bar of soap, a bottle of shampoo, and to his delight, an orange loofah. He takes off his clothing, enters the shower, then starts getting cleaned up. Ten minutes later, a now clean Lincoln, walks out of the bathroom with a towel wrapped around his waist.

"Much better." said Lincoln. After he exits the bathroom, he sees a stack of uniforms, black shoes, and orange, two-piece, long-sleeved pajamas that had the academy insignia on the shirt, on his bed, along with a keycard for his dorm room. Minutes later, Lincoln was looking at himself in a mirror, now wearing one of his new uniforms, which consisted of a white, short sleeved dress shirt with an academy crest on one of the sleeves, orange necktie, orange pants with yellow pinstripes, and white socks under black shoes, along with the keycard hanging around his neck and tucked under his shirt. He hangs the other uniforms up in his armoire, and opens the door of his dorm room, to see Mr. Clavell standing outside it.

"How was your shower, Lincoln?" asked Mr. Clavell.

"It was great. Thanks, Mr. Clavell." said Lincoln as he steps out of his dorm room and closes the door. Mr. Clavell holds up three, ball-like devices. "What are those?"

"These are pokeballs. They're what trainers use to keep their Pokemon in." said Mr. Clavell. "To release Pokemon from them, you just toss the pokeball, like so." He then tosses them up, releasing the three Pokemon that were on the pamphlet that Travis gave him back in Royal Woods.

"Whoa! A Fuecoco, Quaxly, and Sprigatito!" said Lincoln.

"You know what they are?" asked Mr. Clavell.

"Yeah, they were on the pamphlet Travis showed me back in Royal Woods." said Lincoln.

"I see." replied Mr. Clavell. He then motions to the three Pokemon. "We give all new students one of these three Pokemon. You may pick one for yourself, Lincoln." Lincoln smiles in response and looks at the three Pokemon. He looks at each Pokemon until his eyes stop at Sprigatito. Lincoln walks up to it.

"I pick Sprigatito, Mr. Clavell." said Lincoln. Sprigatito jumps up onto Lincoln's shoulder. It looks at Lincoln for a few seconds before licking his cheek, making him smile.

Mr. Clavell then gives Lincoln Sprigatito's pokeball; he reaches into his jacket pocket and pulls out a small, red device that resembled a smartphone.

"What's that?" asked Lincoln.

"This, Lincoln, is called a Rotom Phone." said Mr. Clavell. "It has many uses; but one of the mostly used features of it is that it's also a pokedex."

"What's that?" asked Lincoln.

"Allow me to demonstrate." said Mr. Clavell. He points the Rotom Phone at Sprigatito.

"Sprigatito, the Grass Cat Pokemon. Its fluffy fur is similar in composition to plants. This Pokémon frequently washes its face to keep it from drying out." said the Rotom Phone.

"Cool!" said Lincoln. Mr. Clavell then shows Lincoln the Rotom Phone.

"This also gives the information of the Pokemon it scans." said Mr. Clavell. "This says your Sprigatito's a boy, he knows Scratch, Tail Whip, and Leafage; he has an ability called Overgrow, which increases his grass type attacks when he gets exhausted."

"Sounds like I have a lot to learn about Pokmeon." said Lincoln.

"I'm sure if you studied hard, you'll understand them a lot better." said Mr. Clavell.

"I will." said Lincoln. Mr. Clavell then gives Lincoln the Rotom Phone. An alarm goes off on Mr. Clavell's watch.

"Oh my. I almost forgot I have a meeting with someone." said Mr. Clavell. "I really wanted to give you a tour of the academy." He looks around and sees a girl with black hair with a green streak, tied in a ponytail, wearing a school uniform, but with shorts instead of pants, along with black leggings, red and white sneakers, and a black and red glove, walking down the hall. "Oh, Nemona."

"Yes, Mr. Clavell?" replied the girl, now identified as Nemona, walking to Mr. Clavell.

"This is our newest student, Lincoln Loud." said Mr. Clavell, motioning to Lincoln.

"Hello, Lincoln." greeted Nemona as she holds out a hand.

"Hi." replied Lincoln as he shakes Nemona's hand.

"I have a meeting to go to; so, would you mind giving Lincoln a tour of the academy?" asked Mr. Clavell.

"Sure thing, Mr. Clavell." replied Nemona.

"Thank you. I'll see you later, Lincoln." said Mr. Clavell. He then returns Quaxly and Fuecoco to their pokeballs, and walks away, leaving Lincoln and Nemona alone.

"Well, now I know how to return Pokemon to their pokeballs." said Lincoln.

"Ready to look around, Lincoln?" asked Nemona.

"Sure." replied Lincoln. Nemona then leads Lincoln around the academy, while Sprigatito was riding on his shoulder, and shows him where all the classrooms are and what's learned in each one, such as the Cafeteria, the School Store, the Biology Lab, and many others. They soon reach an open area with a large racetrack, surrounding two small arenas, along with some playground equipment, and several gardens.

"And this is the Schoolyard, Lincoln." said Nemona. "Students come here to chill out and unwind." As Lincoln looks at the arenas, he sees two students on one of them, staring each other down.

"What's going on there?" asked Lincoln.

"Looks like a Pokemon battle is about to start." said Nemona. Seeing an opportunity to learn more about them, Lincoln walks over to get a better look, with Nemona following after him.

One trainer, a young male with brown hair, throws a pokeball, releasing a large, brown, bearlike Pokemon, with a cream-colored ring on its torso.

"What's that?" asked Lincoln as he pulls out his Rotom Phone and points it at the Pokemon.

"Ursaring, the Hibernator Pokemon, and the evolved form of Teddiursa. It usually wears a hardened expression, but when it's licking up honey, the joy it feels will cause it to break into a wide grin." said the Rotom Phone.

The other student, a young girl with long black hair, throws her pokeball, releasing a brown, buck like Pokemon that had pink flowers on its antlers. Lincoln then points the Rotom Phone towards it.

"Sawsbuck, the Season Pokemon, and the evolved form of Deerling. It seems that a Sawsbuck with many flowers on its antlers will grow at a slightly slower pace because the flowers absorb the Pokémon's nutrients." said the Rotom Phone.

"What does the Rotom Phone mean when it says, 'evolved form'?" asked Lincoln.

"Some Pokemon, when they become strong enough, change into different, stronger versions of themselves." explained Nemona.

"I really do have lots to learn about Pokemon." said Lincoln. Back at the arena, the two Pokemon were ready to battle.

"Ursaring, Fury Swipes!" said Ursaring's trainer. Ursaring charges at Sawsbuck while letting out a roar and repeatedly swipes its claws at Sawsbuck, hitting it several times, making it take a few steps back.

"Sawsbuck, Horn Leech!" said Sawsbuck's trainer. Sawsbuck's antlers become surrounded by orange energy; it charges at Ursaring and rams it, knocking it back while Sawsbuck's wounds healed.

"Hey. Sawsbuck looks better." said Lincoln.

"That's because Horn Leech drains energy from the Pokemon it hits and restores some of the energy of the Pokemon that uses it." replied Nemona.

"Ursaring, Slash!" said Ursaring's trainer. Ursaring charges at Sawsbuck and slashes it with its claws, damaging it.

"Zen Headbutt!" said Sawsbuck's trainer. Sawsbuck's antlers glowed blue, and it charges at Ursaring, ramming it. Ursaring skids back and it flinches. "Energy Ball, Sawsbuck!" Sawsbuck opens its mouth and forms a green ball of energy in front of it. Sawsbuck launches the Energy Ball at Ursaring, hitting it. Ursaring falls to the ground with swirly eyes.

"Ursaring!" exclaimed Ursaring's trainer.

"Great work, Sawsbuck!" said Sawsbuck's trainer. Sawsbuck nods in response. Ursaring's trainer drops to his knees and returns Ursaring to its pokeball. He gets up and walks to the girl.

"Good battle." said Ursaring's trainer.

"Thanks." replied Sawsbuck's trainer. Lincoln looks with awe.

"That...was...awesome!" said Lincoln. Ursaring's trainer then takes out a large wad of cash from his pocket and gives half of it to Sawsbuck's trainer.

"Why's that boy giving that girl money?" Lincoln asked Nemona.

"You see, Lincoln; after a battle between two trainers, the losing trainer has to give the winning trainer half the money they have on them." replied Nemona, making Lincoln's eyes widen.

"I better make sure I get some experience battling with my Pokemon before I go around, challenging other trainers." said Lincoln. He and Nemona leave the Schoolyard and finish the tour of the academy.

"So, what do you think of Naranja Academy, Lincoln?" Nemona asked Lincoln after exiting the main building.

"It's so awesome!" said Lincoln.

"I'm glad to hear that." Mr. Clavell says from closeby. They turn to see him with a slender young woman with dirty blonde hair, wearing a white lab coat with a pink fur collar, over an orange, two-piece crop top and shorts, orange furry stockings, brown sandals, two hair pieces, necklack with matching belly chain, and orange nail polish. Lincoln blushes at the sight of her.

"Hi, Professor Sada." Nemona says to the woman.

"Hello, Nemona." said the woman, now known as Professor Sada. Mr. Clavell decides to formally introduce Lincoln to her.

"Lincoln, this is Professor Sada, a researcher here in Paldea." said Mr. Clavell.

"Who is this?" asked Professor Sada.

"This is Lincoln Loud; our newest student." said Mr. Clavell.

"Well, it's very nice to meet you, Lincoln." Professor Sada says to Lincoln with a smile.

"Bah...Bah...Bah." said Lincoln, before shaking his head to regain his senses.

"Are you okay?" asked Mr. Clavell.

"Yeah, I'm fine." said Lincoln.

"If you say so, Lincoln." said Mr. Clavell. "Anyway, tomorrow's the weekend, so there's no classes until Monday."

"I can use that time to study Pokemon in the library if that's okay." said Lincoln. "I don't want to be too far behind everyone else."

"An excellent idea." said Mr. Clavell.

"I can help you out with that, Lincoln." said Nemona.

"Thanks, Nemona." said Lincoln.

"By the way, Lincoln; Do you have American currency on you by any chance?" asked Mr. Clavell. Lincoln reaches into his pants pocket and pulls out the nineteen dollars.

"Just nineteen dollars, sir." said Lincoln.

"If you want, I can exchange your American currency for pokedollars, Lincoln." said Mr. Clavell.

"That would be great, Mr. Clavell." replied Lincoln and he gives Mr. Clavell the nineteen dollars.

"Allow me to take the time to officially welcome you to Naranja Academy, Lincoln." said Mr. Clavell. Just then, they hear some commotion coming from the front gate.

"Oh, what a cute little Pawmi." said a female student. They all look to see the Pokemon that Lincoln helped, sniffing on the front walk. When it looks around and sees Lincoln, it smiles and runs over to him. When Lincoln looks down at it, he suddenly remembers what happened near the airport.

"Hey; you're that same Pokemon from the airport." said Lincoln as he pulls out his Rotom Phone and points it at the Pokemon.

"Pawmi, the Mouse Pokemon. It has underdeveloped electric sacs on its cheeks. These sacs can produce electricity only if Pawmi rubs them furiously with the pads on its forepaws." said the Rotom Phone.

"Lincoln; do you know this Pawmi?" asked Mr. Clavell. Lincoln then tells him about how he helped the Pawmi when it was trapped under a branch.

"That was so sweet of you to do that." said Nemona with a smile. The Pawmi suddenly jumps up on the shoulder that Sprigatito wasn't on and starts nuzzling his cheek.

"It seems this Pawmi has become attached to you." said Mr. Clavell. Having an idea, Nemona pulls out a white pokeball with a red line around the middle of it out of her pocket.

"You should try to catch it." said Nemona as she hands the pokeball to Lincoln.

"Why does this pokeball look different from Sprigatito's pokeball?" asked Lincoln.

"That's a Premier Ball." explained Nemona. "If you buy at least ten pokeballs at a store, you'll get a Premier Ball for free."

"I'll remember that." said Lincoln. Just then, the Pawmi climbs down Lincoln's arm to the Premier Ball, and pokes it with its nose, making it expand; then pokes it another time, causing it to open up, and suck Pawmi in. Lincoln watches as the Premier Ball wiggles in the palm of his hand a few times before clicking. Mr. Clavell and Nemona were stunned by this.

"It seems you've caught your first Pokemon, Lincoln." said Mr. Clavell. Lincoln was surprised by this.

"Really?" asked replied Lincoln.

"Normally, a trainer has to battle a Pokemon to wear it out, making it easier to catch." said Nemona. Lincoln gets a notification on his Rotom Phone, making him look at it.

"This says my new Pawmi's a girl, she knows Scratch, Growl, and Thunder Shock; and she has the Static ability." said Lincoln.

"The Static ability has a chance to inflict any Pokemon that hits Pawmi with a physical attack with paralysis." explained Nemona.

"Looks like I'll be plenty busy studying this weekened." said Lincoln. He then tosses Pawmi's Premier Ball, releasing her from it. The Pawmi looks up at Lincoln with a smile, making Lincoln kneel down, and scratches behind her ears. Sprigatito hops off Lincoln's shoulder and sniffs at Pawmi, who sniffs him back. The two then laugh and start running around, making Lincoln, Mr. Clavell, Professor Sada, and Nemona, laugh at their antics.

"Looks like they're already friends." said Nemona.

"I think I'm going to like being a Pokemon trainer." said Lincoln.

Later that night, in Lincoln's dorm room, Lincoln was lying on his bed under the covers with his arms around Sprigatito and Pawmi, who were both asleep. "Well, tonight's my first night of my new life in Paldea; I don't know what it'll be like for me here, but I'm sure I can handle it." He soon fell asleep. His new life as a Pokemon trainer/Naranja Academy student is about to begin.
