Lonesome Street Chap 11a
Moving forward together
NEXT MORNING
Clark speeds to Nell's house at 08:00 to pick Lana up. They walk hand in hand until they are out of sight and then Lana hops on his back and he speeds them to the familiar yellow farm house. They enter the kitchen and see a beaming Martha Kent. "It's so nice to see you two together at last!" she beams. "We just have to put the cherry on top of this relationship, don't we, kids?"
Lana blushes.
"Easy mom, don't get ahead of us," Clark protests. "We need to tell you and dad about our next steps. Where is he anyway?"
"He ate early and is out doing chores. You can tell me, then help him finish up later. Lana dear, I'm going to do some baking this morning; would you like to help?"
"Absolutely, any time I get to watch and learn from you I will take it. Thanks."
"So, what news do you have for me?" Martha inquires with a raised eyebrow.
Lana speaks first. "This goes back to our talk last summer. You remember when we baked together?"
"Yes, I remember."
"Well, when Clark shared everything with me it just made me more certain than ever that he needs friends, close friends who can support him. When my magic ability manifested itself, it became clear to both of us that I am to be one of those people."
Clark stepped in. "We both agree on that, and we expressed our LOVE for one another. So, we have agreed on two things: 1) I will help her research magic. The goal is to help Lana discover what powers she has and how to use them. I shared with her that one of my weaknesses is magic; she can help protect me from that when she becomes more capable."
"That will be a great comfort for your father and I," expresses his mom.
Lana takes over for the next point, "Clark and I had both been thinking about living arrangements next year, since we both will be at Met U. We had decided to live separately in a dorm until Christmas break, then revisit the situation. However, with the manifestation of my magic, we decided jointly to speed up the process and look for an apartment together at this time."
"Move in together?" Martha appears a little distressed.
"Yes mom. With her and my powers meshing so nicely, and with the joint admissions of love, we feel there is no need to wait. I . . . we hope you and dad will understand and support us."
"But what about . . . ah . . ."
"Sex?" Clark blurts out.
Jonathon walks in the back door just then, he heard that last word. "WHAT DID I JUST HEAR? SEX?"
"Simmer down Jonathon, sit down and let the kids explain." Martha directs him to the kitchen table.
"This better be good!" He huffs out.
Lana looks like she would rather be somewhere else. Clark takes her hand and gives it a gentle squeeze of support.
Clark, Lana and Martha pitch in and explain to Jonathon what they had told mom earlier. He asks questions and grudgingly acquiesces to their point of view. He isn't happy, but he won't cause any trouble. The kids realize that this is the best they can get at this time.
"We should get to Metropolis and start, right babe?" Clark surmises. "We'll be home for supper mom," she nods.
"Yes, let's go," Lana hugs Martha and smiles at Jonathon. They make sure they have their wallets, keys & cell phones; grab their jackets and with her on the CK express thy are off.
MET U LIBRARY
The librarian shows them how to search the holdings for magic literature; many of them very old and not on the Internet. They gather some promising looking books and sit at a table.
"Look at this," Lana exclaims. "It's an old book explaining the different kinds of magic, different spells, how to invoke them and more! There even is a chapter on how to discover what kind of magic powers you have."
" I have another book doing much the same. Why don't we check these two out and study them, then compare notes?"
"Good idea. Just leave the rest here on the table. The staff will re-shelve them."
"Are you sure?"
"Yup. That's their job. You don't have much experience in a real library do you, lover boy?"
"No, why would I?"
"Dewey decimal system," Lana whispers in his ear.
"What?"
"Never mind," she smirks. "Can you grab the newspaper I saw up front? We need to look at real estate, apartments."
1 hour later they find an attractive loft apartment near campus. They rally like it, they can afford it, they put down a deposit with an August 15 move in date.
Their loft is on Lovely Lane.
