Aliya looked around, feeling drowsy from all the medications that she had been given. The girl felt sick to her stomach. The next thing that she was aware of was the oxygen mask on her face, slowly reaching to take it off.
"Hey, how do you feel?" Helena asks, reaching over with her good hand, placing it on the kid's leg.
"My head hurts a little and I feel sick," she says, weakly looking over at the older woman.
"That's normal. Madison said that you'll feel that way for a little bit,"
Aliya nodded as Leon entered the room with some clothes for her to wear home.
"Hey kiddo how're you feeling?" he asks, setting the clothes down on the counter and sitting in the chair beside her, helping to take the oxygen mask off her face completely.
"Still sick but better than I've felt all week."
Leon nodded, "well, I spoke with Madison, and she says that you can go home in the morning."
"Oh, that's good," she says, sitting up and pulling her knees up to her chest.
"You alright?"
"Yeah, it's just…can I speak to Leon alone?" she asks, looking over at Helena.
"Oh, sure. I'll be right outside," Helena says, standing up and nodding at the two of them before she left.
"Oh no, what did I do now?" he asks half-jokingly, earning a half-hearted laugh from her.
"You didn't do anything. I just wanted to tell you that I didn't call you tonight because I felt sick. I called you tonight because I felt uncomfortable."
"At the party?"
Aliya looked away, "yeah it was a bunch of high schoolers and there was alcohol there,"
"Hey, look at me," he says, forcing her to look at him, "why were you at a high school party?"
"It was Trevor's cousin. Trevor was invited so he invited me," she says, avoiding his gaze, seeing him nod from her peripheral vision which urged her to continue, "there was a boy there that just kept touching me even after I told him to stop."
Leon's look darkened, "did he do anything because_" he says, starting to get up from his seat.
"No. No he didn't," Aliya says, holding her hand out to stop him, forcing him to sit again, "I mean he would have if I didn't bite him."
"You bit him?" He asks, knowing that he would have to report that to Hunnigan and then tell Helena.
"Yeah, is that bad?"
"No, I'm glad you told me." He says, not wanting her to worry.
"I shouldn't have gone to that party. I had a bad feeling about it the whole day."
"Hey, look at me." Leon says, gently grabbing her face and forcing her to look at him, "I don't want you to think for one minute that it's your fault. He should not be touching anyone that way without them consenting to it, and he especially should not have been touching someone so much younger than himself."
"Am I in trouble?"
"Nah I think almost dying is punishment enough."
"Yeah, I guess. It's just…I hate her, whoever she is that did this to me. I'm a freak of nature."
"You're not a freak," he says, moving to sit next to her on the bed, "you're just unique."
Aliya rolled her eyes, "you have to say that."
Leon shrugged, "no. I could be an asshole about it."
Aliya laughed, "can we not mention this to Helena yet? Like maybe not until I'm in bed and can't hear you guys?"
"You got a deal, kid," he says, ruffling her multicolored hair, "tell you what. All day on Sunday, you, me, and Helena can do whatever you want. Then on Monday, just you and me. I'll take the day off work and then we can do whatever."
Aliya perked up, "can we go to the zoo?"
Leon chuckled, "sure. Whatever you want."
"And on Sunday can we build a blanket fort and watch Disney movies?"
"Yes, we can."
Aliya smiled and looked up when Helena came in with Madison.
"Hey Aliya, my name is Madison, how are you feeling?"
"Much better than I have been lately. Thanks." she says with a shrug, looking up at the doctor.
"Well, I'm glad to hear it. I'm just going to take your vitals and draw some blood for tests and then if that comes up all clear, you will be good to go."
Aliya watched Madison in curiosity as she took her pulse and blood pressure and was completely fine until Madison took out a needle and some vials and she immediately started to try and back away.
"Hey it's alright. Madison isn't going to hurt you." Leon says, putting an arm around her to help comfort her. Aliya immediately relaxed again, allowing Madison to gently take her arm and find the vein.
"Alright, you're going to feel a pinch," she warns, sliding the needle into the vein.
Aliya didn't even flinch as the needle went in and she watched the vial fill with her blood. She was constantly being poked and prodded in the lab so the needle being poked into her hardly phased her but seeing them still made her nervous. She mostly got nervous because the scientists at C.A.T. Co had to hold her down and they weren't gentle about it.
"There. I should have the results in a few hours, and I'll be back to let you know how she's doing."
"Thanks, Maddie."
Leon ran his hand over his face in exhaustion as Helena sat back down in her seat on the other side of the bed. Aliya was thoroughly exhausted and fought against trying to sleep.
"God, I hate hospitals," she muttered, her eyes fluttering with exhaustion.
"Well technically this isn't a hospital," Helena says, supporting her head with her good arm.
"Uh hello? If it does everything a hospital can do, then it's a hospital."
Helena and Leon looked at each other, unable to argue with that logic as they looked back at Aliya, who had fallen asleep again. Helena brushed more hair out of her face, glad to see that Aliya didn't look nearly as pale as she had earlier in the evening, her cheeks having a rosier appearance now. Leon reached his hand over and put it over Helena's.
"She's going to be fine."
Helena nodded, "I know."
