Mex's Dimensional Adventures
Arc 1, Chapter 1: Supernatural
I slowly open my eyes to a beam of sunlight bearing down on my eyes, it's morning, time to leave. I jump out of bed and get ready, Ghost hovers beside me.
"Good morning Mex, today is the day we activate that new drive for the first time, nervous?" He said in an accusatory tone.
"Ahh pffft! Nah; The Traveller wouldn't give us a faulty ship, besides you downloaded the schematics weeks ago," I say, as I push open my bedroom door.
"There are folks out there that could use a guardian's help, and that's us Ghost, partner," I said, hoof bumping Ghost as he extended part of his shell to bump my hoof.
"Yeah, I know, I just mean, there's no way to directly influence where the drive targets, how are we supposed to be prepared for what we fly into?" Ghost said.
"That's part of the fun buddy!" I said, winking at Ghost and skipping downstairs right into the hooves of Applejack.
"Whoa, there young'un! I know it's your first-day fer, uh, doin your space hoppin, but y'all still need breakfast," Applejack said with her classic country tongue.
"Mornin Applejack! Yeah I know, it smells fantastic as always!" I say with a smile and head nod.
"And how bout you Ghost? Do you eat?" Applejack said.
"Nope, as artificial intelligence, I do not require physical sustenance, I draw my power of life from Mex, and he draws more power from me in an endless loop of concatenation of events," Ghost said.
"Uhh, come again?" Applejack said, with a look of clear confusion.
"He don't eat food," I said with a nod.
"Hey, how come that topic didn't come up once in the 2 months since Ghost arrived?" I said with raised eyebrows.
"I suppose it just didn't come up till now," Applejack said.
"Good mornin fillies and gentlecolts! How are our heroes this mornin?" Granny Smith said as she rounded the corner of the stairs.
"Mornin Granny!" We all said together.
"Mornin Granny! Sorry a'hm late t' the table!" Apple Bloom said, as she hurriedly entered the dining room.
"Apple Bloom! What's with all the rushin' plum pop?" Applejack said.
"A'hm sorry Applejack, I was makin' Mex a good luck charm fer his trip!" Apple Bloom said, holding out a charm made from a chunk of apple wood strung with a chain.
I accept it and grip it in my magic and put it over my neck and hug Apple Bloom.
"Hey thanks, sis, I'll keep it close," I say and then pull out of the hug.
"I just wanted to make you something so you never forget us, even while you're out there," Apple Bloom said, gesturing her hooves to the sky.
"I will never forget you guys, y'all took me in when I was nothin but a lost little colt with nothin but my own burial cloth on," I say.
There were a lot of hugs all around as we sat down to eat our breakfast before heading to the field where I used to train to say farewell to any who wanted to appear to see me off on my first mission.
Everypony I had ever met was there, they all wanted to witness The Dimension Hopper in action, I had used it once already but that was more of a test run and not a mission launch.
As The Apples and I approach the field where everypony is gathered, the Princesses approach us.
"Greetings young Mex, are you ready to depart?" Princess Luna said.
"Yes," I say nodding. "Nervous, but ready,"
"I know that you will be great," Princess Celestia said.
"How about that tour you promised us?" Princess Cadance said with a wink.
"Oh course!" I say, turning to Ghost. "Hey Ghost, call down the ship will ya please?"
"Sure, stand by guardian," Ghost said, his shell pieces spinning faster for a moment.
Shortly after, a boom is heard in the sky and The Dimension Hopper enters the skies. A lot of ponies' heads are to the sky, watching the ship land on the ground a short distance from the crowd.
The engines turn off as everypony surrounds the ship to have a closer look.
"Ghost? Open her up please,"
"Copy that," Ghost said as he once again spins faster for a moment.
The middle of the ship opens, and a ramp extends to the ground, everypony attempts to rush the ramp but the Princesses help to hold them back.
"I am sorry my friends, there is not enough space on board to have everyone together," I promise you will all have a chance to come aboard and check it out for yourself," I say.
The Princesses all join me onboard along with Applejack and friends, and the Crusaders.
"I must say, I find it very hard to believe this vessel is capable of travelling such distances so quickly," Princess Luna said.
"Oh, it's capable alright," Twilight said with a look of pure joy in her eyes.
"We all went on a test flight when Mex first got the ship," Twilight said.
"Computer, pull up the latest flight data please," I say.
The ship's console beeps and a hologram of the stars appears with a white line traversing through the star systems, showing the path of travel.
"Latest destination star systems displayed" A computerised voice speaks.
"Wow," Princess Cadance said.
The Princesses all study the map in front of them, blown away by the technology displayed right in front of them.
"This, this, vessel far exceeds my imagination," Princess Celestia said, looking at everything.
"With it, I'll be able to help a lot of folks," I say with a smile.
"We know you will Mex, that won't stop us from worrying about you," Rarity said while I smiled at her knowingly.
After the tour, I ask Ghost to initiate my armour, which he does.
A digitised version of my human gear appears over my body before turning to solid material. With several clunks and clanks, I am back home in my guardian gear.
A lot of gasps from the crowd ensued as I didn't tell anypony about this little trick, and left it as a surprise. I open my helmet visor.
"See? I'm ready to fight an army of Thralls," I say with a wink to Rainbow Dash who chuckles.
"Oh! Mayor Mare, I have something for you before I go," I say, as I float a new device over to her.
"What is it?" Mayor Mare said, inspecting the device.
"This is Trans-Dimensional Radio or "TDR" created by Ghost, it will allow communication between myself and whoever uses it, provided I'm in or relatively close to the ship of course; I figured it could be used in an emergency to call out to me, or if any of y'all get particularly lonely," I say with a smile.
Ghost ran over how to operate the radio, he made it as simple as picking up the receiver and the signal is sent out to me, connection made.
"This device is, incredible!" Twilight said, giggling.
"Thank you Twilight," Ghost said in a chirp. He would have smiled if he had a mouth.
"Any who wish to use this device will have to okay it through me," Mayor Mare said as she addressed the crowd.
"You go and get 'em Mex! Whatever baddie you face I hope you kick it's hide!" Scootaloo said. Hugging me.
Apple Bloom just hugged me without another word.
"Y-y-you make sure you t-take c-care of yourself o-okay?" Sweetie Belle said, holding tears at bay.
"I will Sweetie Belle, I have Ghost with me, so I will be fine if anything happens," I say, hugging her too, a little tighter than the others.
I smile a big smile and turn to Ghost.
"Ghost? Start pre-launch please, check engines, shields, life support, and weapons too, don't know what we'll be jumping into," I say.
"Copy that," Ghost said, as he floated toward the ship.
I catch some very concerned looks from the Princesses and Miss Cherilee, but I smile and reassure them that this is what I did.
"Remember everypony," I said, addressing everyone present. This is who I am, I was born again to fight for what's right," I say.
"And when I'm not helping others, y'all will have to deal with me all over again," I said with a chuckle. Causing everypony to laugh and then cheer me on as I turn and activate my remote transmat, disappearing from the ground and appearing on the ship.
"Let's go Ghost, take us to orbit please," I say.
The engines flare to life and the nose angles toward the sky, I look out the cockpit and see everypony bracing from the pressure coming from the engines, so I decide to side shift a hundred meters into the field before we punch it.
One more time, I gave them a wave with my hoof and a big smile. All of Ponyville wave back at me, and Scootaloo and Rainbow Dash salute with their hoof.
"Alright, punch it," I say.
Ghost increases the thrust, the engines respond and roar to life, and we begin to make our way to the atmosphere. Once we clear the lower orbit I turn to Ghost.
"Activate the DHM and let's see where the Traveller wants us to go,"
"Wait, "DHM"? What's that again?" He said.
"The Dimensional Hop Module, come on!" I said, pretending to be annoyed.
"I still think that's stupid," he said with a laugh.
"Alright, here we go, activating the DHM," Ghost said, spinning a little faster.
I feel a draw on my power and the engine begins to glow and spin up. Soon, the familiar crack appeared once again, I maximised the thrust taking us nose first into our first mission.
After the reality-warping event was finished, I found myself in a familiar but different space.
I glance down and notice I am human again.
"Contacts?" I said, checking the screens.
"Negative, extending scan; Negative," Ghost replied.
"Power down weapons," I said.
"Any idea where we are?"
"Based on the onboard star map, it looks like we're at Earth again, but the stars are not in the right spot," Ghost said.
"So, does that mean what I think it means?" I say.
"Yep, we're at an earth where the Traveller hasn't arrived yet, if it ever would," Ghost replied.
"Alright, I guess we just explore the surface until we know what our mission is right?" I say.
"Well, I suppose, but we could run a scan of the planet before we go, I'll activate the radar suppressors so we can't be detected," Ghost said.
"Yeah, yeah, good thought, you do that, I'll start the scan," I said. Entering the command on the console.
"You're human again, that's gonna need some getting used to," Ghost said.
"Yeah, tell me about it," I said with a chuckle.
40 seconds later:
"Planetary scan complete, thirty-three active alien signatures," The computer said.
"What?! Anyone we know?" I said.
"Signatures consistent with Hive," The computer said.
"Hive?!" Ghost and I both said.
"That can't be good," Ghost said.
"Computer, where are they?" I say.
"All three Hive signatures are underground in a section of land known as "Ohio" The computer said while displaying a map of the detected signals.
"Lock onto those signatures, activate the active camouflage plates and take us in for a drop-off," I said, getting up from my seat.
"Ghost, load up primary loadout number one," I said.
"Copy," Ghost replied.
In an instant, my all too familiar weapons loaded into their holsters, and I took a moment to get familiar with them again. The Ace of Spades, Cayde's gift to me after he died, well a recreation of it I suppose.
Beloved, I found this sniper rifle amongst the wreckages of one of Calus's "Games". It was a very popular pick in the crucible, but I loved using it to pop heads out in the field.
Eternity's Edge, this blade has dusted thousands of foes, and it was with me when I took my last breath, the final time I meant. It packed its own level of punch that just wasn't replicated with the other swords.
With my kit on, Ghost called out to me.
"Mex? Ready to drop?" He said.
"Yes, engage when ready," I said
"Bringing us in now," Ghost said.
The ship began its classic run towards the planet, and I prepped myself for the first drop I'd done in nearly a year.
"Morning Sam!" Dean said with a coffee mug in hand.
"Hey Dean, we got a case?" Sam, Dean's brother said while stretching his arms.
"Yeah maybe," Dean said while on a laptop.
Sam walked over to Dean and read what was on the laptop.
"Earthquakes, strange sounds at night, over the whole town? What can do that stuff?" Sam said.
"Nothing I've heard of," Dean replied.
"Where is this happening?" Sam said.
"Kent, Ohio," Dean said.
"Chilly," Sam replied.
"It is for winter yeah; What do you think? Road trip?" Dean said.
"Sure, we could use a normal case for once, call Cass, and have him meet us," Sam said.
After hours of driving, Sam and Dean make it to Kent, Ohio and begin the standard things hunters do when they catch a fresh case.
"Alright, why don't we talk to some of the people who heard the noises?" Dean said.
"Yeah, what's our cover?" Sam said.
"FBI standard, get dressed," Dean replied.
Sam and Dean talk to multiple people, trying to find a central source for the noise or follow a path of some description and they come across an eyewitness.
"Wait, you saw the thing making the noises?" Sam said.
"Yeah man, it looked like this, mutated thing, it had hands but instead of fingers, it had three claw things," The man said.
"Claw things?" Sam said.
"Yeah, and its face, it didn't have any eyes and its mouth looked like something out of "Alien" The man said.
"Right, okay, thank you, sir, have a good day and maybe rest up some," Dean said.
"I'm not crazy man! I saw that thing by the old factory!" the man said.
"The factory? Where's that exactly?" Dean said.
"Right on the edge of town man, but, don't go there! That thing is probably still lurking!" The man said.
"Well, thanks for the information sir, have a good day," Sam said, leading Dean away.
Sam and Dean climbed back into the Impala and discussed their findings.
"Does that sound like anything you know?" Sam said.
"Maybe a Wendigo?" Dean said.
"Yeah maybe," Sam said.
"Let's check out that factory tonight and see what we can find," Dean said.
"Okay, Cass should be in town in about an hour, I told him to meet us at the motel," Sam said.
After meeting up with Castiel, the group head to the factory and park their cars a small distance from the side entrance.
"Cass? You good?" Sam said. Causing Dean to look at him.
"Yes, I sense something here, but I am unsure of what it is," Castiel said.
The brothers glance at each other but continue towards the factory, flamethrowers in hand.
They soon reach the back door and go to pick the lock only to find the door was barely hanging on its hinges. Castiel pulls the door off, and they enter.
"Split up, search this place top to bottom," Dean said, Sam and Castiel nodded their approval.
After a few minutes of searching, Sam rounds a corner and comes face to face with the described monster. It quickly notices him and screeches loudly. Sam covers his ears and fires his flamethrower. The creature screeches again and begins to flee.
"Hey!" Sam said before giving chase.
A gunshot rings out through the hallway, and the creature explodes in a small explosion, when the explosion settles, a smaller person completely clad in armour including a helmet, standing under moonlight and holding a smoking revolver still in the firing position, lowers the weapon and looks at Sam.
Sam draws his gun and points it at the stranger.
"Who are you?!" Sam said battle battle-experienced eyes trained on the stranger.
"Nice flamethrower," The stranger said. And turned and walked further into the facility but didn't get far.
"Hey!" Sam said, again, about to give chase when Dean and Castiel meet up with him.
"Sam?! What was that?" Dean said.
"Guy, down the hall, blew up the thing," Sam sputtered.
"What?" Dean said, looking down the hall, drawing his gun.
"Whoa! Who is that?" Dean said, pointing his weapon at the stranger.
Cass just stared in amazement, trying to figure out who this stranger was.
The stranger put his hands up as he walked towards the group.
"I'm a friend, friendly!" The stranger said.
As the stranger came into more light, the brothers lowered their weapons as they came face to face with what appeared to be a pre-teen boy.
"Who are you? What are you?" Castiel said.
The brothers both looked at Cass questioned his actions.
"What do you mean "What" is he, Cass? He's a kid! A small kid!" Dean said.
"Yeah, a small kid with what looked like a 500 Magnum," Sam said.
Under the light, they could see the kid in his entirety, in strange gear including a helmet adorning his body with a rifle on his back and that hand cannon on his waist.
"No, he is not human, I can feel something about him, like he's an angel, but I've never seen him before; And that raw power is something I've never seen before, not even in Archangels," Castiel said.
"Angels? Like the stories?" The stranger said.
"Okay, well, my name is Mex, and I'm a guardian. Mex said.
"A guardian?" The stranger in the trench coat said.
"You know what that is Cass?" The stranger in a leather jacket said.
"No, I was asking what that is," The one named Cass replied.
"I'm Sam, this is Dean and that's Castiel," Sam said.
"Like I said before, I'm Mex," I said.
"Now, what is a guardian?" Castiel said, staring at me.
"Well, I-" I said before getting interrupted.
"Guardian? I am detecting Light within the one named Castiel," Ghost said to my internals.
"What? Are you sure?" I said, getting looks from the group.
"Yes, he has the Light but is not connected to it, like a guardian, very strange," Ghost said.
"Heh, radio," I said, gesturing to my ear.
"I think we can trust em Ghost, come on out," I said.
"Easy on the weapons fellas," I said just as Ghost transmats out of my "pocket" and floated next to me.
"Whoa! What is that?!" Dean said shocked.
"Hmpf, Aren't we the jumpy one?" Ghost said.
"Ghost, knock it off, first contact protocol you calculator processor," I said in a joking tone.
"I- uh- well!" Ghost said sputtering.
Sam and Dean snickered at my joke and instantly I knew I would get along with them.
"Fine, hello humans, I am Ghost, Mex's companion and his only link to life if he dies in battle which he's done thousands of times, most of them, his fault," Ghost said.
"Pfft, no spicy noodle ramen for you tonight," I said.
The brothers and Castiel's eyes went wide.
"Thousands?!" Dean said.
"You've died thousands of times?!" Sam said.
I look at them with a smile.
"Yeah, but don't worry, Ghost brings me back and I keep fighting," I said.
"How is that possible?" Castiel said.
"Humans aren't designed to be brought back to life even once, not to mention that many times," Castiel said.
"The process is quite complex and sadly we don't have time to delve into that," Ghost said.
"Mex, we've got an incoming wave of thrall!" Ghost said. As he transmated back into my backpack.
I draw The Ace of Spades and turn on the spot, pointing it down the hallway. Castiel draws a silver blade from his coat and the brothers draw their handguns and point it down the hall with me.
"Ghost! Flare!" I said, a bolt of light spits out of my vest and down the hall which reveals 15 plus thrall all charging toward our position.
"Flashbang!" I shout as I throw a flash grenade down the hall.
The brothers shield their eyes just as the grenade detonates and stuns the entire group of Thrall. I open fire on them followed by the brothers. I strike one in the head, and it explodes like the first one. I quickly reload my weapon and it activates Memento Mori, a special ability of this weapon.
A few get through while I was reloading and Castiel steps forward, thrusting the blade into a Thrall's chest. The thrall turns to dust with a screech.
"Alright, talks over, I've gotta destroy the nest before they spread," I said, starting to walk when the Thrall came.
"Whoa whoa, I'm not comfortable with letting a kid walk into a nest of those things," Sam said.
"Ghost? Pin the route to the nest's core onto my H.U.D. please," I say, noticing a new destination appearing.
"Stick close fellas," I say, not breaking my tactical form.
"Hey, kid!" Sam said in a hushed whisper following behind.
"Get out of here, we've got this," Dean said.
"Actually, you should get out of here, who here can be revived if they die?" I say, raising my hand for a few seconds and not turning around.
"Alright whatever, we're not responsible if you kick it," Dean said.
We go deeper into the facility and underground when we find a nest of Hive Acolytes around a casting circle with a Hive Wizard in the middle creating more Hive.
I raise my arm and stop the group from approaching.
"Bingo, that's the head honcho," I say, pointing a thumb at the Wizard.
All three of them peak around the corner for a closer look with all of them getting disturbed.
"Those don't look like the ones from before," Sam said.
"Nah, that ones bigger, and uglier," Dean said.
"What are these things?" Castiel said to me.
"They're Hive, Long story, I'll explain after I wipe out the nest okay?" I say, holstering The Ace of Spades and grabbing the Beloved from my back.
"Whoa, what is that thing?" Dean said, looking at it.
Castiel looks as if he's trying to sense it by staring at it.
"My sniper rifle, it's bullets are energy based and can tear straight through the big one, get ready, I'm gonna knock on their door," I say, pulling on the rifle bolt, racking a round.
"Wait, what?" Sam said, raising his weapon.
A loud shot rings out and echoes through the room, the bullet piercing the Wizard's shield, a second shot goes through its head and it disintegrates, the Acolytes stand up and screech at us. I swap my weapon back to the Ace of Spades and open fire.
The brothers open fire as well, their bullets are striking the acolytes but not doing very much. The brothers seem to notice this.
"We aren't even scratching them!" Sam called out, mid-fire fight,"
Thrall and Acolytes begin to charge and flank our position.
"Flashbang out!" I say and throw another flashbang directly in front of three flanking Acolytes.
"Stormtrance! Come forth!" I yell out.
The Thrall stop in their tracks and begin to flee, the Acolytes all attempt to hide. Castiel looks at me with confusion. As I raise a hand to the sky. A lightning bolt strikes my hand and suddenly my body is crackling with lightning. Charged with power, I go forward and begin to expel lighting at any target I see.
Arc energy bounces between most targets and they are vaporised in an instant. A loud growl rings out over the battlefield. A major Hive Knight appears and runs toward me, I turn my Stormtrance onto the Knight and he stops in his tracks.
Arc lightning, burning his armour and skin, weakening him, Castiel charges forward and plunges the silver blade into the Knights neck and delivers the final strike, it disintegrates with a screech. We're all panting.
"Phew, good work y'all," I say, holstering my gun again.
"Okay, what the ever-loving hell, just happened?" Dean said.
"Nope, not yet, gotta destroy the nest, one moment," I say.
I approach the middle of the nest and Ghost transmats an explosive charge into my hand, I place it right in the middle of the nest and start to leave.
"Come on, I'll explain everything over a drink," I say with a smile.
The brothers are taken aback a little but follow behind me, Castiel has an unchanged expression of studying me.
Once we were about halfway back to the entrance I stopped and pull out a detonator and activated it. A large explosion is heard down the way and all the residual "Hive stuff" as Demi used to call it, is seen quickly withering away and crumbling.
The brothers cover their heads when they see the detonator and look at me with scrunched faces after the explosion. A smile a shrug my shoulders.
"Residual Hive genetic matter dissipating guardian," Ghost said.
"Nice, we'll hang around for a little while and see if any more Hive nests appear," I say, walking out of the door.
"Alright, talk, what just happened?" Dean said, putting a hand on my shoulder.
I sigh before taking a breath.
"You sure? You're gonna want a drink in your hand before I get started," I say.
"Fine, let's go; Sam, we'll take him back to the motel and he can explain all of this there," Dean said, gesturing everywhere.
"Fine, let's go, Mex was it? Get in the car," Sam said.
Letting out a sigh, I deactivate my combat gear with a flash of digitised Light, causing their eyes to go wide again, I hop in the back seat. Dean turns the engine on and pulls out onto the road, shaking off his shock. Castiel pulls out behind us.
After not long at all, we were at their place.
"You guys live here?" I say, getting out of the vehicle.
"Uh, for now, yeah," Sam said.
We make our way inside and Dean pulls out two beers from the fridge and hands one to Sam, to my annoyance.
"Nah it's okay, I didn't want one anyway," I said, with a joking tone.
"This is beer kid, you can't drink it till you're 21," Dean said.
"Fine," I say.
"Now, talk," Dean said.
I take a deep breath.
"Okay, hello, my name is Mex, ex-guardian of the Last City on Earth," I say, leading into the long explanation I'm used to by now.
Authors Notes:
Whew! Here we are again huh? Book 2 Chapter 1!
I have quite a bit to explain with this series so listen up, this new chapter of Mex's life is going to venture into many different franchises that I will be calling "Arcs", starting with the Supernatural Arc. There will be three chapters (Minimum) per Arc before being followed by another Arc in Equestria.
This allows Mex to visit many different places and fight different threats, while still writing content for Equestria 😊
So what do ya think? Will this work out? Is it something that you'd be interested in? Or would you want more detail about each world Mex visits? I'm going into this with the expectation that the reader (That'd be you!) Has at least heard of the franchise that we'll be going into. If you haven't then that's okay, you can still enjoy the story as raw as it is.
Anyway! That'll do it! Until next time! Catch everycreature in the next chapter!
