So here's my new story!
And I still have no idea for a tittle even as I'm writing it... Well, I will just think of something on the spot then!
Btw, since it's only a prologue today and not the entire chapter I will probably try to deliver a real update for tomorrow. So stay tuned.
Now without further ado.
Here it is.
In a place so beyond mortal comprehension it couldn't even be described, twelve unique beings were present.
Each of those beings was immensely powerful and divine. If an ordinary human were to see just a single one of them, they would have easily believed they were in presence of a god.
There was nothing at all, aside from them, in the incomprehensible place they were present in, and the atmosphere among them was crushing.
"Everyone, I'm glad to see you all could make it!" One of the beings, a small cat-like creature made out of galaxies, called out in an uncomfortably high-pitched voice.
A couple of hums, grunts, and other bizarre forms of acknowledgement echoed through the dimension they were in.
"I know we had some issues with each other's lately, and that some of us would have liked nothing more than fight each other this very moment." The cat-like being continued in a solemn tone. "However, we all are aware, we simply cannot do that!"
A few of the divine beings looked at the cat with their equivalents of frowns.
"A battle, nay, a mare spar, between us would lead to catastrophic results to countless worlds and galaxies, which would have undoubtedly found themselves on our way. As beings of grace, kindness, and divinity, we simply cannot allow for such things to happen because of us. It would have reduced the amount of worlds under our care as well."
A few of the less serious and benevolent beings couldn't help but snicker a little at the cat's speech.
"That's why I propose we use champions, chosen and helped by us warriors, to fight in our place, instead!" The cat-like being looked up a little to seem more inspiring. "Let's make it a grand battle between the people we put our trust in, and let the results of it bring an end to our small spur!"
The end of cat's speech was met with short silence.
At first for one smallest unit of time among gods.
Then for two such units.
Then for three.
Then, just before the fourth such unit of time could pass, one of the beings snorted loudly and everyone exploded in an unrestrained laughter.
Howling, chirping, wailing, all the possible, and impossible, ways to express one's joy echoed through dimensions and empty worlds as none of the powerful beings present could contain themselves.
"Dear me! It was absolutely hilarious!" A being, which looked like a beautiful human woman with multiple wings and halos all around her, managed to say in between her laughs. "And the way you somehow kept a straight face throughout all of that! I knew it was a good choice to tell my last hero to focus on yours first!"
"I know, right!?" Another being, a grotesque monstrosity of uncountable tentacles, eyes, and teeth, let out after a laugh. "I never knew old sis had so much talent as a jester!"
The laughing from all the twelve beings continued for the next couple of time units, until finally a loud bang echoed among them.
"Alright! Let's get to business, everyone!" Yet another being, this one looking like an enormous mythical dragon, shouted loudly with a smirk on their face. "What rules are we deciding on for this tournament!?"
Upon hearing the dragon's question, every being quietened down for a moment to think about what they want. However, it didn't take long for the beings to start shouting their suggestions.
"No items!"
"Only one on one fights!"
"Screw you and your fair duels! I want some gang fights this time!"
All of the beings then proceeded to bicker among themselves about the rules for their next fight. It was loud and chaotic, and if any mortal had witnessed what was happening there for even a second, they would have gone insane from all the chaos.
"Silence!" Fortunately, one of the beings, a formless moving heaven that decided to take humanoid shape, managed to take back the control over the situation. "If none of us can agree on a set of rules, then we are going to have to simply agree on the classics."
A couple of whines and wails echoed from a few of the beings, but none of them said anything against it.
"Alright, so all the loot from the hero's journey allowed, and a wild fight in the source world, right?" The least experienced of the beings, a weird looking android controlled by an amalgamation of magical spirit, asked to be sure.
The heaven nodded in response.
"What's going to be the time limit this time?" The beautiful woman with wings and halos asked.
"I propose a month!" The cat-like being said with cheer in their voice.
"Too short." One of the ruder beings replied.
"How about ten years?" The android asked.
"Too long, after all this time most of the chosen heroes are going to have no connection to the source world. It will make the fights too boring." The dragon replied before giving their own offer. "I say, one year sounds like a good choice."
Dragon's offer was met with nods and sounds of agreement.
"Is everything settled yet?!" An excited being, which looked like a flying serpent with four primary elements floating around it, asked impatiently. "I can't wait to win this battle!"
"Yes, it looks like we are all in agreement." Another being, an unusual floating six-legged creature which somehow looked both monstrous and regal, replied. "Let's go choose our heroes and prepare for our battle then."
"Alright!" All the beings shouted before disappearing in a blinding flash of light.
A couple seconds later, two more divine beings appeared in the place where this whole conversation took place. They looked like glowing featureless humanoids with horns on their heads, one glowed with a blinding yellow light while the other with a black one.
Both of them could only stare in exasperation as they saw twelve foreign deities invade their world, for nothing more than just to have some fun.
"Brother?" The God of Darkness started.
"Yes?" The God of Light answered.
"Shouldn't we do something about their blatant breaking of the natural order and cycle of life and death, on a foreign world? Remnant is our domain, after all."
The God of Light slowly turned towards his brother before glancing back at the invading gods.
"Do you want to get in between all of those twelve crazy deities and their fun?" The God of Light asked slowly.
"No?"
"Then you got my answer."
(...)
One unfortunate night, in a nearly instantaneous flash of light, twelve seemingly random people simply disappeared from Remnant.
Some of them were so unknown and insignificant their disappearance was noticed only by their closest family, while the others were high profile and important enough to nearly put entire kingdoms into panic.
Nobody knew how they vanished or where did they go to, and anyone who was close to one of the heroes, chosen by the twelve foreign gods, could only hope nothing bad would happen to them.
After multiple months had passed many of those people began suspecting that the people who disappeared simply died, ran away, or, in a drastic situation, were in hiding.
In the end, no one on Remnant really knew what was happening.
Unbeknownst to the people of Remnant, however, the people who were taken away by the gods, were on their individual journeys through different worlds, either saving them or simply surviving through them.
All of these journeys were the adventures of legends, no matter how mundane or insignificant they would seem to the heroes, that would often be told about by the residents of the foreign worlds for years after they ended.
Only after those journeys ended, and a year had passed on Remnant, were the heroes allowed to return to their home.
Whether it was a cause for joy or despair, though, still remained to be seen.
(...)
He grunted a little from effort as he dodged another one of the Demon King's swipes.
By this point in the fight, both of them were already far from their best. There wasn't an easier way to see it than just look at the surrounding area. What was once a giant demonic castle, became nothing more than just some big ruins, and now neither he nor the Demon King were capable of destroying it any further.
Despite all the tiredness and wounds on him, though, he couldn't stop a grin from forcing its way onto his face.
It was the final challenge left for him.
He only had to defeat this one stupid demon, and he would be able to go back to Remnant.
Another one of Demon King's attack just barely missed him as he began to charge at the huge devil with a grin on his face and both of his hands grasping his sword in preparation for an attack.
He didn't bother with reaching for his shield throughout the fight. It might have been strong, especially after all the enchantments he put on it throughout all the years he had been a hero in the world of Aurielladan, but he knew it wouldn't do a thing against an opponent of Demon King's calibre.
[DIABELO, THE DEMON KING]
[LV185]
That monster was almost twice his level!
His hand tightened around his sword as he jumped up to deliver his attack. Thankfully, by now the demon's level didn't matter as much when there was but a few attacks left until he killed it.
The Demon King tried to quickly swat him from the air, but with a well timed slash he managed to not push the demon's huge arm away.
With the monster's neck directly in front of him and with next to no protection, he immediately did what he had to do, and used all of his strength to behead the Demon King.
As his sword met the Demon King's neck it met the by now familiar resistance of a demon skin, but with a little bit of effort, and pushing past his limits, he did manage to succeed in his task.
Falling down, after delivering an attack, and seeing the head of the demon king flying with its huge monstrous body collapsing as well, he couldn't help but laugh so loudly that all the people who escorted him to the temple probably heard it.
"Finally!" He shouted while still in the air.
He's been in Aurielladan for so long, he couldn't quite tell how many years has passed since the day he arrived there. The fact his body didn't seem to age properly while in Aurielladan didn't help with his sense of time either.
All he knew was that he hadn't been in Remnant for too long, and he would, quite literally, kill for a chance to go back home.
He landed on the ground with his back, not on his feet, but he didn't care. Nobody was here to witness him embarrass himself, and if he remembered everything correctly about his single meeting with the god of this world, he would be teleported out of this world in a moment anyway.
"I wonder if my family's been doing good." He mused to himself while laying on the ground.
"They are doing surprisingly well." A familiar, and beautiful, voice startled him a little. "Last I checked, even after spending a lot of money for the missing person posters and announcements, your parents still had enough resources and time to help your sisters."
"L-Lady Auriella!" He said in panic as he frantically tried to stand up to show respect for the goddess that brought him here.
"Sit." Auriella commanded. "After all the things you've been through, you deserve at least a moment of rest."
"A-Alright." He gave up with a sigh before relaxing his position while still on the ground.
Auriella smiled beautifully. All the wings and halos around her only making her look prettier.
"You grew up, Jaune." Auriella said while looking at him with kind eyes. "You grew a lot."
He looked up at the now clear skies with some melancholy.
"I know."
They stayed in silence like that for a while before Jaune decided he had enough of rest already and began to stand up.
"I don't want to sound rude by asking it, but you will send me back to Remnant now, right?" Jaune asked while standing up. "There won't be any more secret tasks I have to complete before you send me, will there?"
The goddess giggled a little at his questions.
"No, there won't be anything I will be asking you to do here." Auriella shook her head. "Everything that I could ask you to do to help my world is done. There is going to be one more task I will have to ask of you, though."
Jaune shifted a little warily before he asked his question.
"And that would be?"
The kind and happy expression on Auriella face almost instantly turned serious. It reminded him a lot of how Lady Auriella's face looked back when she first summoned him here to defeat the Demon King and help save the people of her world.
"Sadly, even though you helped me deal with all the danger to my world from the inside, there's still a giant danger to it from the outside." Auriella said.
"The outside?" He asked.
"Yes, this very world you spent decades protecting and helping is currently in danger of being destroyed by foreign gods." Auriella nodded before raising his hand to stop him before he could respond. "I know you can't possibly match in a fight even a single one of those gods, but that's not what I'm going to ask of you."
He looked at the goddess with a bit of uncertainty in his eyes.
"What will be the task you ask of me, then?"
Auriella raised one of her hand, and used magic to create a small image of a slowly rotating Remnant on top of it.
"The night I have taken you away from your home, eleven other gods, like me, did exactly the same." Auriella explained as twelve small lights appear on Remnant's image on her hand. "This unexpected situation caused a lot of instability, since Remnant wasn't design for twelve powerful people to return to it."
Just as Auriella said that, the Remnant in her hand began shaking and being covered with storms. It looked as if it was going to be the end of the world.
Jaune tensed a little at the image.
"Wouldn't that be just my problem, though, Lady Auriella?" He quickly asked, secretly hoping the goddess that brought him here would answer no to his question. "I don't see what you have to worry about."
Auriella shook her head slowly.
"If I, or any of the other eleven gods, were heartless beings, then maybe you would have been correct. However, all of us already agreed to make sure none of the summoned heroes would be separated from their home for too long." Auriella pointed at the illusionary Remnant in her hand. "That's why we decided to move the pressure which normally would have been put on your world onto ours."
The image of Remnant slowly returned to normal, and Jaune couldn't help but relax a little. Of course, Lady Auriella wouldn't let him deal with the fallout of his return on his own. She was a benevolent goddess, after all.
"This will however put our worlds at risk." Lady Auriella added before he could relax completely. "While I don't know what the exact damage is going to be, I'm fairly certain it's going to be catastrophic."
Jaune gulped.
He couldn't just ignore the world he spent the last decades helping. Not only would that be cruel, but it also would make all the things he had done since arriving here completely pointless.
"What can I do to help?" He ended up asking.
A relieved expression appeared on Lady Auriella's face, as she dismissed the image of Remnant she was holding with a smile. It looked like she was secretly hoping he would accept the task and help her as well.
"It's pretty simple, I'm still going to send you back to Remnant, but at the same time eleven other returning heroes are going to arrive there as well." A serene smile appeared on the goddess's face.
"I want you to kill them."
Jaune blinked a couple of times in silence to make sure he didn't just hear the goddess wrong.
"W-What?"
The smile didn't leave the goddess's face.
"If all twelve of you heroes are on Remnant, the connection between all of the worlds is the same and all the worlds are in danger. If you kill all the heroes, on the other hand, I would be able to channel the destructive power directly into their worlds and save my world from all the danger." Auriella said happily.
"Isn't doing it a little bit too selfish, L-Lady Auriella?" Jaune asked.
The goddess clicked her tongue nearly silently before smiling and shaking her head.
"You are thinking of it the wrong way, Jaune." Auriella huffed. "No matter what twelve worlds will suffer, but if you kill eleven other heroes I would at least be able to completely save one of them."
Jaune still didn't look convinced.
"I will tell you more, with my world secured I will even lend a hand to other gods in rebuilding those worlds that suffered the most, alright?" Lady Auriella slowly began to sound more and more like a shifty car seller trying to convince someone to lose money. "Look, I will even grant you a single wish after you finish them of. How about that?"
A barely noticeable frown appeared on Jaune's face as he heard the goddess speak, but in the end he could only sigh.
"Alright, I will fight those other heroes." He said. "You better hold true to your promise of helping those other worlds, though, okay?"
"Naturally!" Auriella said with a grin before quickly pointing at Jaune.
The very next moment, Jaune was quickly engulfed in a bright white light and transported back to Remnant.
"I can't believe that actually worked." The goddess murmured to herself as she watched her champion disappear. "I swear, this guy was harder to convince than the last dozen of my 'heroes'. Why did he have to be so bloody kind-hearted?!"
(...)
Jaune didn't know how long he stood in front of his house, unsure what to do.
Was it still a couple of minutes or already an hour? Luckily, it was middle of the night, so he didn't have to hurry with his choice. Most, if not all, residents of the Arc Household are currently asleep.
His mind was being assaulted with pointless questions and worries.
Should he really reunite with them, even if it's highly possible he's going to die in the upcoming battles anyway?
Would they accept him after the whole year of absence?
Jaune gulped.
Would they even recognise him?
He quickly shook his head.
It was a stupid question. Of course, they were going to recognise him, it has been barely over a year for them since he disappeared. The real question should be whether he was going to recognise them, instead.
After all, it has been decades for him.
He knew he had a father, mother, and seven sisters. Their appearance was something he probably was going to have issues with. While he could still barely remember how his father and mother looked, the faces of all his sisters were just blending with each other.
He tightened his fists a little.
Well, he wasn't going to remember them by staying here and doing nothing.
With a quick, and somewhat awkward, movement, he walked up to the front door and knocked. He made sure to knock just strong enough for it to be heard, while at the same time to not be too loud.
His father was a professional huntsman, he should hear and react to his knock, even if the rest of the family wouldn't.
It didn't take long for Jaune to hear someone quietly walk towards the door from the other side, and subsequently for that person to carefully open the front door for him.
[CLEMENT ARC]
[LV 24]
It was that person, the man who brought him up.
His father.
Despite all of that, however, instincts honed on decades of living in Aurielladan made him immediately focus on assessing that person's strengths and level.
It was pathetic.
He always imagined his father as some sort of immovable warrior that wouldn't retreat even if an avalanche of monsters were to attack them. Yet when he looked at the small level assigned to his father, he couldn't help but be disappointed.
His father was a professional huntsman, the absolute top when it came to strength on Remnant, yet he was only level 24. Back on Aurielladan that level wouldn't be out of place on a gate guard for an ordinary town.
It certainly was nothing when compared to his level of 99.
"J-Jaune..?" Clement asked with unmasked hope and disbelief in his voice.
He sighed.
What am I doing? A thought entered his mind as he remembered that the person before was still his father, who he didn't see for decades.
"I'm back, dad."
And Cut!
The end of the prologue.
The later chapter will be a bit longer, so don't worry about the length too much for now, alright?
Btw, Jaune is not the main character of this story, technically there won't really be a true main character here, he will be a rather important character though, especially at the beginning, but don't expect the entire story to be from his perspective.
Also I will be giving a short file on all the worlds the characters went to as they are introduced (by introduced I mean shown their abilities for the first time, not simply mention), and since technically Jaune was introduced this chapter today will be his.
Anyway that's all for today, See ya!
[World Name: Aurielladan]
[Inspiration: RPG/Isekai]
[Hero: Jaune Arc]
[Description: Aurielladan is a world of knights, dragons, and magic. Overseen by the goddess commonly known as the Lady Auriella it is a world blessed with a special system that uses divinity as its basis. Anyone can receive access to the system as long as they either ask the goddess for help, or simply catch her fancy. One doesn't have to have access to the system in order to affected by it, however, and the system will passively check and grade anyone it comes in contact with, even other-worlders. Anyone who receives access to the system is also given a class and the ability to manually redistribute their strengths through the levelling system. The highest level a human, or any mortal, can gain is level 99. Although, this limit isn't shared by monsters, angels, demons, or other purely magical beings.]
