Kai POV: I groaned as I woke up with a massive headache. And instead of getting up, I just laid there, willing it to go away. What even happened yesterday to cause
…Oh… right.
I groaned again and covered my head with my blanket. Nya and Zane both saw it, which is exactly what I didn't want to happen. There's no way they're going to let it go either, not like with Lloyd. And I can't even be mad with him since he did technically keep his promise. But why did that stupid seizure have to happen right at that moment? I was completely fine all day until then.
Then the door opened, and whoever it was walked over without saying anything. I really don't want to talk to anyone, so I tried to pretend to still be sleeping.
"Kai, I can tell you're awake." Nya said. Of course, it would be her.
Slowly, I sat up, barely looking at her. But she didn't seem upset or angry, so that's a plus.
"How are you feeling?" She asked gently.
"Okay, I guess." I answered, but then I flinched when my headache suddenly spiked.
She raised an eyebrow at me and said, "Okay? Should I pretend that I didn't see that?"
"I would appreciate that." I said as I pushed myself to the wall
She sighed, then crawled into bed and sat next to me.
At first, we just sat there, shoulder to shoulder. I really wanted to say something, but what could I say? I didn't want to worry her by telling her. Though I'm sure Zane had already pieced it together and said something.
Finally, she said, "Kai?"
"Yeah…?" I asked, hesitating.
"Do… Do you really have epilepsy?" I knew it. I just knew she would ask that.
I really didn't want to talk about it. I've avoided that for years, but I also knew she wouldn't back down until I did. After seeing one, she deserves the truth.
"...yes." I answered, hating how small my voice sounded.
She didn't immediately say anything. "Why didn't you say anything before?"
"I didn't want to worry you, and I know how to deal with these myself, so it's fine." I explained, but she just glared.
"You didn't want to worry me? We're siblings, Kai. I'm always going to worry about you. It's part of my job as your little sister." She said, then she leaned on my shoulder.
She was right, I know that. And I know that I can't keep this up. Hiding the seizures was getting harder and harder, too.
I pulled her into a hug, which she accepted. Then I flinched again from the headache, reminding me it was there. Why does my body hate me so much right now?!
She pulled away and said, "Want me to get you something?"
"Sure." I answered.
She got up and made her way to the door before she stopped and turned to me.
"Kai, we haven't said anything to Cole or Jay. But I think we should tell them, if that's okay with you?" She said gently.
I can understand where she was coming from. They're going to find out eventually anyway now that it's out. But at the same time, I really don't want to talk about it twice in one day.
"You can tell them, but if you don't mind. I'll sit out of the discussion." I said, giving her permission.
She nodded and said, "Okay. Get some rest, I'll be right back."
After she closed the door, I flopped back down. All in all, that didn't go as bad as I thought it would go. But I cringe at what might come after they all learn about it.
Nya POV: I watched Cole and Jay's face as Zane and I told them about Kai's epilepsy. And it went back as well as I expected. Cole just sat there in shock while Jay paced around. Lloyd came out of his hiding place when he learned Kai was willing to talk and tried to calm Jay down.
"Jay, Kai is alright. Can you just sit down?" He said.
"How can he be alright? And how has this been going on without us knowing? Just how?" Jay said, freaking out and pacing a little faster.
"It's Kai. He's too good at hiding these things." Lloyd said, and I agree.
"But how can we help? Normal medication doesn't work on us. At least not the kind that Kai will probably need, right?" Cole asked, finally saying something.
"Yes, but I have been doing research to see if there's something that can help. Hopefully, I will have something soon." Zane answered.
"Where's Kai now?" Lloyd asked after he finally got Jay to sit down.
"Resting. He woke up with a headache." I said.
"It would be best for him to relax the next couple of days, just to be safe." Zane suggested. I nodded in agreement.
He's not going to like that, but he'll have to deal with it.
