Too bad their parents have forbidden the electronics as part of the grounding process for this trip. Which meant Beth and the girls were going to have to maintain contact with their other friends the old-fashioned way: writing letters.

"Why not play a board game or two? When was the last time you played Risk?" Dr. Jenna Pantheon suggested, then began pulling out some board games.

"Monopoly. Parcheesi."

"Ask Zandar. Oh look the game of scrabble!"

"Can't we just go to bed?" moaned Beth

"It's only 5:30 pm." pointed out Dana.

"Fine, we'll play Ask Zandar." huffed Zaira.

They open he box but… "Shame the crystal ball's missing."

They were all so bored that they hadn't noticed that they been mostly left alone by the other tenants except for the occasional curious passer-by.

"What a way to pass the night, no movies, no guys, no fun…no nothing! Life's passing by without us."

"We've only been here for a couple of days." Nema replied from one corner as she typed in a laptop. "Just settle yourselves with a good book, better yet finish up those reports your teacher asked."

"I don't plan to rot the weeks away till we return home, there's got to be something worthwhile in this town." Theo grumbled.

As the girls continue to feel bored, they suddenly hear some faint music coming from outside. Curious, they decide to investigate and follow the sound. As they walk down the street, they notice a group of high school students setting up decorations and lights in the school gymnasium. It turns out that there's going to be a spring break dance at the local high school.

Excited by the prospect of some entertainment, the girls approach one of the students and ask for more information about the dance. They learn that it's a popular annual event organized by the student council, and it's open to both high school students and members of the community. The dance will feature a live DJ, refreshments, and a variety of music genres to cater to different tastes.

Eager to attend, the girls make a mental note of the date and time of the dance. They decide to spread the word among their friends and make plans to attend the event together. Finally, their boredom is replaced with anticipation for a fun-filled evening of dancing and socializing.

"A dance as in lights, music and boys?" Yui grinned.

"Some our age others just two years older." added Theo. "We've got to go."

"Yeah, like mom and the teams would ever let us go." Beth frowned.

"Why do they have to know?" Tony, Sara G's brother lightly elbowed her.

"You got an idea?"

A couple of hours later the following night, the agents with Dr. Pantheon, and the Goodman twins' uncle Bernard Goodman would be setting up surveillance in a van a few blocks down the lane.

It was the perfect opportunity.

"Sara's in, we're all set. They'll meet us at the corner in two hours we catch a quick ride to the school. Have fun for a little while and be back home at midnight."

They were digging through their bags searching for shawls, cloaks to disguise themselves when they heard strange sounds coming from up the lane. It was from that strange Mr. Shivers' house. First raised voices, then a scream followed by several crashes. They thought of calling the police, but it looks like someone else beat them to it.

"See? Nothing that concerns us." Zaira shrugged.

Less than fifteen minutes later they see the police coming out with the concerned neighbors. However, the girls didn't see anything else out of the ordinary.

They packed a bag of flashlights, pocket knives, other random items they might not have to use but brought anyway just in case.

Yui, Haruna, Theo, Sara and her twin brother Tony had already left for the road ahead of them according to plan. Now it was their turn to step out.

Zaira wore a halter corset type top laced up in dark blue ribbon with a black asymmetrical skirt.

Kylie wore an elegant turquoise bracelet sleeved dress that fell to her ankles.

Beth was in a pleated knee length green dress with a keyhole off the shoulder top and forest green leggings.

They all took care to wear comfortable shoes and hosiery the better for them to sneak back in before the grown-ups check in on them. Next they arranged pillows and casual clothes under the bed blankets to look like bodies.

Sneaking out of the house is a big risk no matter how old you are. You know obviously know you'll get in trouble, yet the adrenaline rush about being able to get away with it was thrilling. For teenagers, sneaking out at night is a form of rebellion against their parents.

Beth and the girls snuck out by using the drain pipe or using a makeshift rope. They don't see Dana climbing down a tree while holding an empty jar in her hands.

Inevitably, the girls kept jumping behind bushes or trees whenever they see a car coming, they suddenly hear a rustling sound nearby. Startled, they turn their heads and see Dana emerging from the shadows, holding a jar in her hand.

"Dana, that's not funny!" one of the girls exclaims, her heart still racing from the surprise. "You scared us!"

Dana looks sheepish, realizing that her attempt to catch fireflies has unintentionally startled her friends. "I'm sorry," she says, her voice filled with genuine remorse. "I didn't mean to scare you. I just wanted to catch some fireflies," she admits, holding up a jar.

The girls exchange knowing glances, noting that Dana's love for animals has led her to this unexpected detour.

Beth steps forward, her voice gentle but firm. "Look Dana, we appreciate your love for animals, but sneaking out alone at night can be dangerous…."

A sudden roar catches their attention. Then a scream! It was coming from Mr. Shivers' house - again!

Then they soon saw why because the culprit charged right through the bay window of the house. Steel snaps. Glass shatters. A fifteen foot tall white furred beast with a half-human, half-gorilla face.

"Is that a Yeti?!" Kylie yelped in alarm.

"But it doesn't match the ones in Newt Scamander's book!" Dana gaped, in the chaos she'd dropped the jar.

"He don't look he's one of Ti-Yet's race either!" Beth added in shock.

They watched as the white furred beast lumbered off down the street into the night. Then they saw teenage girl with a ponytail rush out of the house. She was brunette with gray-blue eyes.

She was followed by a tall teenage boy. Caucasian skin tone and very short brown hair.

"Wait, Hannah. Hannah. Hannah, wait." The boy jogged to catch up.

"Go home, Zach." Hannah, the girl with the ponytail answered. "You're in over your head."

"You wanna tell me what's going on?"

"No, I can't explain. I have to go."

The four girls watched, feeling like they've stumbled into something private.. Then another teen boy rushed the tall boy Zah and tried to keep him from following Hannah.

"Zach, wait. Wait!" He was saying, as if pleading with the boy not to run off.

"Dude. Dude, get off me!"

"Listen to me very carefully." The boy said, "That's the Abominable Snowman. You don't get that nickname by accident. And it just crawled out of a book. That doesn't just happen, Zach!"

The words took the four guardians by surprise. Say what?

"Abominable snowman?" Zaira raised her eyebrows.

"Crawled out of a book…?" Kylie repeated.

It looked like Colonel Logan's hunch about supernatural occurrences in Madison wasn't that far-fetched after all.

"I'm going after Hannah." The boy Zah, insisted then began following the sound of car alarms and dog howls.

"I read what it did to Pasadena, it's no joke!" The other teenage boy called after him.

Beth rolled her eyes. "Oh, boohoo. It turned a summer place into a winter wonderland, so scary…not."

The teen boy heard her, he turned around and was surprised to see not one but three teenage girls in semi-formal wear with a ten year old staring.

He became a little flustered and tried to talk to them, "Hi. Hi, I'm Champ. Nice to meet you." he extended his hand to them, "Hey, we were… going to the semi formal later tonight, and I don't know…"

The girls introduced themselves. Then Zaira said, "Here's an idea – we'll all go to the dance together…"

Champ's face lit up.

"After we sort out this whole mess with the abominable snowman there."

Champ's face fell. "You gotta be kidding me."

"Relax Romeo, you got some extra punch and pizzaz in your corner." Beth smirked as she and Zaira linked arms with Champ to drag him along.

"Hey, wait up, we want to help!" Dana called out to Zach and Hannah.

To be continued…

Author's note: OK, the guardians are in. But don't think the girls' absence or their secret is gonna go unnoticed for long.
