On the same day as Amity and Azura's adventure in Abomination Island, Rentley and his mother, Boscha were both in an aggressive discussion in the living area while Harriet watched on in silence.
"I don't want you hanging out with people like them!" Boscha demanded. "I mean, you saw what they did to Amity's son!"
"They didn't know that this would happen!" Rentley argued.
"You should be hanging out with your boyfriend and his friend!" Boscha argued. "I picked them out for you for a reason!"
"Mom, you know Jakob is a part of the Province!" Rentley argued.
"You don't have proof." Boscha said.
"I saw it with my own three eyes!" Rentley argued angrily. "And so did Azura, Hecate and Ronda!"
"You expect me to believe that literal Half-A-Witch, that owl monster or whoever she is?!" Boscha asked angrily.
"Yes!" Rentley replied.
"Well, you got a little overconfident there!" Boscha argued. "You should save your confidence for your Grudgeby match."
"What if I don't want to do the Grudgeby match?" Rentley asked his mother.
Boscha chuckled. "Of course you do. I need to boast your victory to someone."
"See, you don't even care about me succeeding, you're just using me to boast about how great I am because you just want me to be like you instead of being like me!" Rentley argued. "You know I'm starting to doubt if you actually love me!"
"If I show any sign of love for you how are you supposed to be better?!" Boscha asked her son. "Now, why don't you go upstairs and think about what life you really want?"
"Why is it so hard for you to accept me the way I am?!" Rentley yelled. "The person I want to be? Why…"
"Enough arguing!" Boscha interjected. "This attitude of yours is shocking!"
Rentley was about to argue again but he instead just marched up to his bedroom while his mother just stared out the window with her arms folded.
"Uh, what is wrong with that child, Harriet?" Boscha asked her wife. "I mean, if Amity didn't call after that Owl Beast situation then I wouldn't have found out that my son, my own son, was sneaking out to find the Province, sneaking off to hang with those kids and sneaking off to visit Willow's Half-A-Witch daughter! I mean, Willow, of all people, the last person I expect to find love, finds it in that Grimwalker! You know, maybe things would have been better if I made my own kid as a Grimwalker."
In that moment, Harriet sat up off the couch and slammed her fist on the table. She narrowed her eyes at her wife in a rare moment of defiance. "Well, I don't think it would!" She marched up the stairs to talk to her son while Boscha was staring out the window.
She didn't just say anything except staring out the window with a hint of regret in her face. She sighed and pressed her head on the window before pulling back. "Ow!" She held her eye on her head. "My eye!"
Upstairs in his bedroom, Rentley was watching the orb where a commercial for Flyer Derby was playing.
Willow came on screen riding her Palisman. "Are you looking for extreme?!" It cut to an explosion that read with the words 'Extreme!' Showing up on screen. It then cut to Willow on the bleacher spinning a flag in her hand. "Are you looking to put your Palisman to the test?!" An explosion exploded behind Willow before cutting to her doing some pull-ups. "And are you looking to put your body through so much that pain is nothing more than a fly on your shoulder?!" The camera pulled out to reveal her to be hanging upside-down on one of the bleachers while her husband appeared to be hitting her stomach with a ball. Then, an explosion went off, causing Hunter to flinch. Then the commercial cut to a bunch of students doing dangerous flying stunts on their Palismen. Such as flips, areal twists, hanging off of them and even one of them was holding on to one of them by their teeth. Willow showed up on screen. "Then you need Flyer Derby! An extreme sport that shows your brilliance and determination! All you need is a Palisman and INSURANCE!" An explosion went off startling the Flyer Derby players, causing each of them to fall off their Palismen. "So come on down to join me, Willow Park of the Emerald Entrails at my Flyer Derby Centre near Jill's Sandwiches!" There was an awkward silence before a sign on screen showed up reading 'We couldn't afford an explosion in this area.'
Then, he heard a knock coming from his bedroom door. "Rentley?"
Rentley quickly fumbled with the orb and changed it to the 24 hour Grudgeby channel. "Rentley?"
"Mom?"
Harriet entered her son's bedroom. "You okay, dear?"
"Why doesn't Mom want me to be happy?" Rentley asked. "She wants me to do stuff I don't feel comfortable doing. Making me hang with a group of people I don't like, making me do Grudgeby and giving me a regiment on what to eat!"
"Well, it is good to stay healthy." Harriet pointed out.
"I don't want griffin egg sandwich for lunch every week!" Rentley sighed. "You know what I want? The one thing I want in my life is the chance for me to be happy without anyone telling me how to live!"
In that moment, the two heard the sound of something, like the sound you hear when someone is coming to life. Then, something jumped at Rentley and turned into a staff. It turned out to be none other than his Palisman. A stag Palisman that he had for a while.
Rentley and Harriet were startled at first but then there was a smile from the both of them. "Well, what do you know?"
"Okay, that was unexpected." Rentley remarked. "Least I know what I want."
Harriet smiled at her son. "And go ahead. You do what you want in order to be happy, dear." She rubbed his head and then kissed it. "I believe you." She got off his bed and left the bedroom.
Once she left, Rentley stared at his new Palisman with a smile. It jumped out of staff model and began to nuzzle his arm. Then, the young witch gently stroked it with his finger. "Well, I'm glad I have you right now." He turned the orb back on which was now showing the commercial for Flyer Derby again with all the explosions. "Because you're just the beginning of my new life."
