155 days before the incident.
I gave my paper a final glance before deciding it was time to hand it to my teacher. I think I did well on this exam. I don't expect to receive a perfect score, but I am confident in earning a decent grade.
As soon as my instructor accepted my paper, I hurriedly picked up my things and went outside. I looked at my phone, checking if I have a message from Sasuke. I was surprised last night when he suddenly messaged me, asking if I want to hang out this weekend. I do not know what he is thinking to invite me, but I really wanted to relax after an exam so I agreed.
But since this morning I haven't received an update from him. After I gave him the address of my cram school he didn't message me anymore. So when I exit the building, I was surprised to see him leaning there beside the vendo machine an open soda can on his hand. He's wearing a plain white shirt inside a black hoodie and denim black pants. How could he be so plain but still managed to look good.
"Hi." I said, thinking how ordinary I am compare to him.
"Hello." He said and I hope he isn't mad.
"Have you been waiting for too long?"
"No, I just came like five minutes ago. How's the exam?"
"I think it went well."
"Good. Can we now go?"
"Yeah, sure. Where are we going."
"Just somewhere."
I followed him inside his car and I notice he had his duffel bag inside.
"You have a practice today?" I asked.
"Just this morning, the idiot had been suddenly inspired he wants the team to jog with him."
"Oh I see. If you have to hang out with them, it's perfectly fine with me."
"Nah, if I do want to be with them I should have not invited you."
"Good point." I said giving him a smile. "So where are we going?"
"Anywhere."
I just nodded and let him drive. I still don't know why he is willing to spend time with me. We have been classmates for a long time, and there has never been any interaction between us. But I am grateful for the time I spent with him. Sure, I have Sai and the others as friends, but we rarely get to hang out.
"Hey, are you alright?" He suddenly asked me.
"Yes. I was just thinking where are we going."
"I just saw this shop that sells sweets. You might like it."
"I surely will."
He is right, I love the place. It is a haven for those who love sweets. They have all kinds of cakes and chocolates in cute designs.
"Where did you know this place?"
"Sakura brought us here."
"Oh, she has a good taste."
"I don't know about that."
"I'm glad you came with her here."
"Naruto made me join them."
"You really can't say no to Naruto." I said with a smile.
"Because he has a habit of annoying me until the only choice I have is to agree with him."
"I think he is a funny guy. "
"Wait till you know him." He said rolling his eyes.
Of all my classmates Naruto is one of those few who really bothers to talk to me. So I think he is a really nice person and no matter what Sasuke says, I know of all the people, he is his trusted friend.
"Are you done choosing?"
"Yeah." I answered and I followed him in the counter. I was about to pay the cashier but he is already handing him her card.
"What? Do you want more?"
"No, I can pay." He glared at me. "I'm sorry."
He didn't bother to say anything after. Ang when we are about to leave the cashier softly whispered.
"What a lucky girl to have a boyfriend like him."
I turned deep red. I wanted to correct her but Sasuke's already out of the shop.
"Are you sure you aren't sick or something?"
"Yes, why?"
"You're all red in the face."
"Oh," his comment made me turned redder if that is still possible. "It's just made me really happy."
"The sweets?"
"No, but well yeah it did. What really makes me happy is this." He looked at me inquiringly. "This, sitting here, you driving, and a box of sweets on my lap. This made me happy."
"Are you sure you are really ok?" He asked concerned.
"Of course I am. I just really appreciate all of this. Thank you."
He did not say anything but I can see the almost smile on his face. "Anyway, have your read the whole play?"
"Yep. I really do not know why of all Shakespeare's plays we have to do that. It is really cringy to have a grown man fell in love to a preteen."
"I see."
"You haven't read it, have you?"
"I read it. But not the whole of it."
"So where part are you?"
"Uhm let's say I just scan it."
"Uchiha Sasuke!"
"I know, I am great."
And it made me laugh. There's no dull moment with him. Even the silences were never uncomfortable. I will always be really thankful that day he found his way to our little book club.
