Lillie had woken up to the unusual quiet of the house in a daze. She laid in bed staring at the ceiling for a couple of minutes before groaning and sitting up. The nightmare made her feel more fatigued. It felt like she had barely gotten any sleep. After taking a shower and getting ready for the day she calls Charlie and tells him she isn't going to come in for the day. Of course he had no problem with it, he said he would email her the stuff she needed for the day, she said her thanks and hung up the phone.
She makes up a quick breakfast while waiting for the email from Charlie to arrive. It took about 20 minutes for everything she needed to be sent over, she decided to start working on it right away, not wanting to lag behind.
Two hours later she ended up actually finishing everything that she needed to. After emailing the finished documents she emailed them to Charlie immediately. She packs up a bag for the day, some snacks, her water bottle, phone charger, etc. While she was working she had made plans with one of her cousins that lived in Seattle, she was going to go over and spend some time with him. She made the excuse to herself that she just missed him but she knew that she actually just did not want to be in the house.
The drive to Seattle was rather easy, the weather was pretty good which made the usually rain slick roads easier to drive on. It took about three and a half hours to get there, checking her dashboard clock she had arrived around 1 pm. Her and her cousin had planned on meeting up at a cafe near his place. She was able to find a parking spot down the street from the cafe, she did not mind the short walk.
When she got to the cafe she realized she had gotten there 10 minutes early, and knowing her cousin he was either going to be exactly on time or late, never early. She decided to get some tea and a little snack while waiting for him. The cafe wasn't too busy so she didn't have trouble finding an empty table for them both to sit at. It was a pretty nice place, looking around she liked the more antique style they were going for. She could see why her cousin suggested this place, he was just the type to love places like this.
The bell at the cafe entrance rang and in walked the man of the hour. She stood up with a smile, waving him over. He saw her quickly and made his way over, smiling back at her. They shared a hug before he went to the counter to get his drink. They had planned on eating lunch here too, so she wasn't surprised when he had come back with a tray of food. He had his cup of coffee and two sandwiches.
She takes her food and smiles warmly at him. "How have you been Mikey? How's school going?" He was majoring in art history. His parents were a little worried about what he would do for work after he graduated. They supported him nonetheless, it was what he wanted to do and what he loved. Her aunt and uncle were happy as long as he was happy. They were like that with all of them, they worried and doted over their sons and her.
He takes a large bite before speaking. "I'm doing good, school's good too, exams are coming up soon so I have just been studying like 24/7." He sips his drink before clearing his throat. "How about you, what have you been up to?" She could hear him trying to keep the worried tone out of his voice. He had always been protective of her, she was his only female cousin. It had only gotten worse when her father had passed. He reminded her of the cliche over protective brothers you read about in books and see in movies.
She takes a sip of her tea to clear her mouth from the sandwich. ¨I've been good, same as you. You know me though, I haven't been doing much of anything other than working. Went shopping the other day but that was about it recently." She felt bad saying it, the family has always been trying to get her to get out of the house more and to make more friends. It made her feel like she was in high school all over again, but she knows they are just worried.
With a chuckle she gives her cousin a mischievous smile. "Soooo, been on any dates or go to any parties when you're not studying." Both of her cousins were pretty popular back in high school. They were friends with almost everyone, and the line of girls interested in them was endless. They were sweet though, they were super respectful of any of the girls they dated. Well actually they were respectful to everyone, their parents would have their hide if they weren't
Michael sighs and leans back in his seat "I literally have not been doing anything outside of studying. I wish I could go out and party, I miss the high school parties. I never thought
I would actually say I miss high school." He chuckles.
Lillie nods with him "I cannot say I agree" She finishes her sandwich and wipes the crumbs from her hands and mouth. "High school was not very fun for me." Her cousin rolls his eyes.
"You make it sound like you were bullied or something, you just didn't want to hangout with anyone." She points to him "Touche Mikey" Her cousins had invited her to almost every party they went to during their high school years. She almost never went to any of them though. At first it was just because it was not her type of vibe, but after her father passed she shut down and barely left the house other than for school.
Her cousin throws away their trash and returns the now empty mugs to the counter. They walk out of the cafe and end up agreeing to go to the movies before Lillie heads back to forks. They both drive their cars to the theater. Michael was luckier than her, he was able to get a parking spot close to the theater, whereas she had to park at the end of the street.
The movie her cousin picked was a random action horror movie. Lillie thought it was a pretty good movie, the gore was a little cringey but she didn't mind it. Her cousin on the other hand could not stop talking about how he wished it had been scarier, apparently he had been looking forward to the film. She couldn't help but laugh at his complaining. They shared a hug and said their goodbyes, promising to hangout again sometime soon. She had no idea if it was actually going to happen; they both lived pretty busy life's. Her cousin is more so than her.
She turned away from her cousin to start the walk back to her car. She was starting to regret having parked so far, but she didn't really have a choice. Maybe they should have just used her cousin's car, she could have left her car at her cousin's apartment, it was not that far from the cafe they had first met up. To make it even worse it was starting to get darker out which also meant it was getting cold out as well.
She could not help but pull her bag closer to her, as a feeling of fear ran up her spine. She could see her car at the end of the street and sped up, wanting to be inside of it where it was safe. She could not help but start to scream when she felt herself yanked into a side alley. The scream was cut short by a rough hand being shoved over her mouth painfully. "We can't have you screaming. I want to enjoy you thoroughly." A cold voice whispered in her ear.
The owner of the voice pulled back and Lily could not help but try to scream again, she could feel tears rolling down her face with both the effort and fear. The man that had grabbed her was terrifying, he was handsome but she couldn't help but see past the beauty. His skin was too pale, too perfect, no warmth in it at all. His eyes were red, and she could tell they were not contacts, which made her even more scared of him. A normal creep she could probably fight off enough to run away, but she knew she had no chance at getting away with this man.
The man smirked, a cold gaze following down her face to her throat, he licked his lips, as if looking at his favorite piece of pie. He started to bend his head down to her neck, unnervingly slow. She could tell he was going so slow on purpose, trying to scare her even more. She was still trying to wriggle out of the hold the man had on her but it was like she was being held down by a bear, no even stronger than a bear, she wasn't able to move an inch.
She was going to die, she could feel it, the look in the man's eyes when he was smiling at her was empty. She knew he felt no compassion, none at all, she knew he would have no qualms about ending her life. Lillie could feel pinpricks on her neck, the pin pricks turned into a piercing fire throughout her neck.
Then all of a sudden the cause of the pain was pulled off her, leaving her to suffer with this pain starting to burn through her neck, as if to singe every cell it touched. Lillie could not see much through the squinting of her eyes, and it hurt too much to focus on what was going on around her. She blinked and when she opened them again Esme Cullen was standing in front of her. Lillie could not feel it but she could see the woman brushing Lillie's hair out of her face. Esme was saying something but Lillie had no idea what it was.
Behind Esme, Lillie caught glimpses of two shapes blurring from one place to another. Suddenly there was a large snap followed by silence. She blinked and next thing she saw almost had her screaming again. Carlisle held the decapitated head of the man that had tried to kill her. The man's body falls to the ground. Lillie could feel herself starting to black out, her body finally giving in to the pain, to give Lillie a respite from the fire. She noticed one thing about the dead man's body before the darkness took her. There was no blood anywhere.
