After the angel had left her,
Mary determined to journey to her
Kin Elizabeth,
For as the angel said,
She too had been blessed by God's plan.
In these women the Good News began
To take root and grow. Her feet light and swift,
She hastened down path, o'er stream, around cliff
To arrive. Mary greeted Elizabeth,
Laughter and praises and joy in her breath.
And John danced in the womb,
As once in Jerusalem
David had danced
While the Lord's Ark advanced
And his heart sang for joy.
So too, this tiny boy
Felt the new Ark draw near,
And for this he was here—
To cry out full-throated,
With whole heart devoted,
And make straight His path.
Then his mother was glad,
For the Spirit came on her.
She cried out in honor,
Exclaiming her wonder and awe
That the mother of God
Had then travelled in haste
To her home in the hills. And her face
Shone and eyes lifted up thus to share
Her delight in the children they bear.
.
"And how can this be?
For the babe within me
Heard your greeting and leaped
At the sound of your feet
On our path. Oh, blessed is she
Who, at God's Word, believed
That His promises would be fulfilled."
And Mary's voice thrilled
As she sang the Lord's glory and might
And His gentle care for all the poor He holds tight
To Himself. He has humbled the proud
But the lowly have found
Themselves raised up and filled
With abundance and praise. For He willed
To show mercy to His servant
Israel. Abraham and his descendants
Will count on His Word. And His handmaid,
Though lowly, will be known for ages,
All ages as blessed. "For holy is He,
And He has done great things for me!"
.
About three months she stayed,
Then she went on her way.
