"You're going to be free."
I watched Errorphim stumble back. I could see fear in his eyes, I wondered if he looked at me the same way the now dead leaders of Fortune City had looked at The Killer. I didn't move when Errorphim's wings beat, I didn't have to. He launched himself high into the sky overhead, but there was no escape from me there. The sky was molded in my image, I owned it. So I didn't worry, not even when Errorphim's wings spread wide and his ascension came to an abrupt stop.
"I already told you!" Errorphim roared down from above, he glared into the piercing white shine of my eyes. The mad god threw one arm out to his side, and he seethed when I didn't even bother blinking at the sight of Godly Gaster Blasters flooding the sky. They appeared in the hundreds, blotting out the burning red with their blasphemous shine. Their maws all snapped open in unison, and that blinding shine doubled in luminosity. Still, I stared up into it unmoved while Errorphim shouted down at me. "You'll never see them again!"
The scream of those lasers punctuated Errorphim's words. I stood there, head tilted back and shining eyes watching as heavenfire rained down upon the earth. Behind me, Anny, Xander, and Lexi had all managed to climb to their feet and they were all watching the same lasers I was. Anny and Lexi had enough faith in me to wait, but an irritable Xander shouted over to me, "Alright, biblically accurate asshole! You gonna do something about that or are you just gonna keep jerking yourself off?!"
I smiled a little at Xander's words, I was glad he was still willing to run his mouth in spite of my wings. The three rings encircling my body spun then, their green shine intensified. And in the very next instant, circular plates of KINDNESS appeared all throughout the sky above. Each one was directly in the path of one of those lasers, and each one was the exact width and height to totally block the beams. however many hundred Godly Gaster Blasters Errorphim had summoned, I'd summoned the same amount of shields.
But, in all honestly, those many walls were more like trampolines than shields. Because the very instant those blasts collided with my KINDNESS, each and every one of them was reflected straight backwards at twice the speed. And Errorphim's eyes widened in horror as, in the blink of an eye, his wall of Godly Gaster Blasters was being totally obliterated by their own blasts.
"I-I..! But..! What?!" Errorphim's head whipped from side to side, his pupils trembled as they watched smoke, flames, and bone chunks blast across the skyline. He was baffled, bewildered... And then, his sockets widened further. I thought I might've heard the mad god's neck creak as he slowly turned his head. He looked over his shoulder, and his trembling pupils only grew more confused when he spotted me floating behind them. I crossed my arms over my chest, my wings were spread wide and my shadow fell upon Order's Mad God as he growled through grinding teeth. "H-... How..?!"
The eyes on each of my wings ignited with a blinding light. Green, red, and white shined over Errorphim, before a laser blasted out of each of those eyes. Two emerald beams from the uppermost wings, two scarlet beams from the middle wings, and two ivory beams from the lowermost wings all exploded into Errorphim at once. They converged like beams of sunlight through a magnifying glass, and Errorphim burned like an ant when they crashed into his body.
Order's Mad God was sent blasting back to earth under those lasers. He crashed back first into the glass, which shattered under his impact as he dragged across it. Mirror shards reflected my light as they flung up around Errorphim; Anny, Xander, and Lexi all watched his prone body get dragged right across the ground between the three of them. Only after he was past them did those scorching rays stop scorching him, leaving him laying flat on his back and steaming with solar heat.
I floated back down to earth, landed in the trench Errorphim's body had dug between my three friends. I didn't bother taking another step forward after that, I could see from the mad twitch in his eye that Errorphim would be coming to me. He ripped himself out of the molten glass drying onto his bones, and he screamed as his wings blasted down, firing him forward at me like a missile.
I watched Errorphim drag his hand back and straighten his fingers to try and drive them through my skull; his movements all looked so slow to me now. I effortlessly tilted my head to the side when he jabbed at my forehead, letting his fingers sail over my shoulder. Then, I jabbed two of the burning fingers on my left hand upward, and I planted them right against Errorphim's chin. This made the mad god stop dead, his chin lifted and his sockets wide with anticipation... There was a flash of red, and his body recoiled with agony.
In an instant, a hundred red blades had exploded out of his body. They cut up out of his bones, sending chunks of holy calcium flinging uselessly across the reflective floor. His head tilted back and his eyes went dark for just a moment, his jaws were forced open and a blade shot out from between them. He was frozen there for a second, trapped in a prison of scarlet steel. Then, the blades shattered apart, and he dropped to one knee before me.
"H-hahh... Agh..." Errorphim gasped as green Light smoothed over the holes punched in his body. Beads of sweat collected on his brow bone while he glared up at me with wincing sockets. I stared down my nose at him, the white shine in my eyes illuminated my face and the Deltarune shined in the sky behind my head. Errorphim's teeth ground furiously at the sight of this. His hands raked across the glass floor beneath him, before he lunged at me and snarled like a savage. "Die!"
I was gone in an instant. My body vanished from Errorphim's range, and he was left staring ahead, mortified. Mortified, because without me in his path he was lunging forward into the shining maw of a blaster. Not a Beat Blaster, not even an earbud of any kind. Shining behind where I'd been standing was a human skull the size of the dragon skulls that made up Errorphim's Godly Gaster Blasters. And similar to those blasters, my Killer Cannon unhinged its jaws and released a tidal wave of boiling light from within.
A wall of red power erupted from that Cannon and it totally engulfed Errorphim. The blast stretched high into the sky, it spread wide across the wasteland and it ripped Order's Mad God back through the valley of shadow and death. When the blinding light of that blast finally died down, Errorphim was laying flat on his face in cracked glass. Gasping for air and steaming with agony, the mad god shoved his hands into the floor and lifted his head up off it. He stared down into the shattered reflection under him... And then he saw my reflection, too. His head whipped up and he glared furiously at me, but I continued to just stare at him with those glowing white eyes.
"G-gnn... What..?! No one liners..?! No threats?!" Errorphim frothed, dragging his body further out of the glass. His fingers clawed desperately into the floor and further distorted his reflection while he snarled, "At least make some idiotic mercy offer!"
"Are you going to give back Chara's soul and surrender?" Hands in my pockets, I tilted my head and lifted one brow just a little while I asked.
"No!" Errorphim hissed spitefully, a mere millisecond before my foot slammed down on the back of his head and drove him face first into the glass. The reflective earth exploded down into a crater beneath the two of us the moment his skull hit it, and that crater crushed down into another crater a layer deeper, and that crater crashed down another layer deep. I frowned as I grinded his face in the broken glass with my foot.
"Then there's nothing to talk about."
Chapter 103: Be Not Afraid
Or: Angel The Hacker
Inferno by Mick Gordon began playing as Errorphim's teeth grit. He shoved his hands into the cracked mirror beneath him, he lifted his head as much as he could under my foot. He was forced to stare down into the broken reflection beneath him, and he saw four different skeletons and seven different humans staring back up at him from the shards. This sight sent rage boiling through his bones, and Order's Mad God found the strength to rip his head upwards and out from under my heel.
My leg was thrown up by Errorphim's head, but my wings lifted me up to keep me from losing my balance. Errorphim managed to get back to one knee, and in the next instant his jaws had snapped open. Boiling Light exploded out from within and raced up to obliterate me, only for the eyes on my wings to flare with their own Light and send six lasers blasting down to meet Errorphim's scorching ray. My eye beams all converged against Errorphim's death breath, and a shockwave exploded out around the two of us, carrying with it shards of broken mirror.
The entire battlefield flashed white, red, and green. the colors flared and raged, but I didn't budge and Errorphim did. His hands and knees dug harder into the glass, cracks further split the mirror floor while his mouth laser was pushed steadily back towards his jaws. The flaring colors were steadily funneling into a cone around the mad god, sweat was building on his brow bone before boiling to steam and being blown away. His head was forced to tilt back, those raging lasers were getting closer and closer to being jammed back down his throat.
A bone fired from the earth beneath me in attempt to skewer me, but a KIND shield stopped its point immediately. My wings continued to fire down onto Errorphim, and the mad god shrunk more beneath me and my power. Several other spikes of bone fired in towards me from other directions, and each one was brought to an effortless stop. Finally, when that raging Light was mere inches from Errorphim's trembling jaws, a pillar of calcium fired out from beneath him instead. It crashed into his body, ripping him up through the air just fast enough for him to not get blown away by the raging power of my soul.
My eye beams scorched right through the bone pillar beneath Errorphim, dropping his elevator out from under him and forcing him to have to spread his wings to stop him from dropping right back down towards me. I didn't wait for him to fall to me though, I'd fired up off the ground before his pillar could even crash back onto the mirror. In the blink of an eye my burning left fist was smashing through Errorphim's sternum, forcing the mad god's body to bend into an unfortunate C shape while shards of his ribs flew through the air. His eyes went dark, his aura went out, and then the force carried through and sent him blasting up into the stratosphere with a BOOM!
Errorphim launched through the shattered sound barrier, flipping and flailing all the way up towards the Deltarune shining in the sky above. Finally though, his arms and wings spread wide and he managed to bring his aching body to a grinding halt before he was launched into the wall of burning DETERMINATION that eclipsed the planet. His ribs healing in green Light, Errorphim's hands snapped shut around the handles of the twin DETERMINATION sabers that one of his stolen souls was forced to conjure. His wide, panicked eyes darted back and forth as they tried to spot me on the endless glass sheet below. "Where are you?!"
"Pssst."
Errorphim's eye sockets opened even wider, his pupils shrunk and the fury on his face was replaced with fear. I was already floating there in the sky with him, my back to his and our wings spread out in a perfect mirror of one another. Gradually, Errorphim's teeth began grinding and his face peeled back into a vicious snarl. He whipped his head back around towards me and immediately the back of my fist blasted into his face. BOOM! went the sound barrier once again as Errorphim was sent careening face first across the skyline at mach speed.
Again the mad god managed to flip, and ever persistent his wings spread wide and forced him to yet another difficult stop. His fists trembled at his sides, his hateful eyes glared all the way across the horizon to where I floated with my arms crossed over my scarred chest and a bored expression on my face. Green Light was flickering over the mad god's face now, replacing teeth and filling in cracks around his nose hole and eye sockets. After a moment of growling and teeth grinding, Errorphim let out a primal scream, and white Light exploded to life around him while his wings crashed down and sent him firing back towards me.
My expression remained bored, but my wings lifted and beat down all the same. In the blink of an eye Errorphim and I collided, and the force of our impact sent a shockwave exploding through the sky. We moved so fast that we nearly vanished in the next instant, reappearing once more in a different part of the sky with another collision. We disappeared again, just to collide once again. Over and over, back and forth, Errorphim and I clobbered each other across the burning sky and all anyone but us could see was random shockwaves flashing over and over with every impact.
On the scorched earth beneath, Anthony The Anarchist had yet to rise from his knees. He sat there, staring up into the crashing sky with an expression that was hard for Lexi and Xander to understand. He looked like he was in awe, and like he didn't understand. His body was large now, He was scarred and he was bloody. His soul was heavy, his power was supermassive. He became this thing, he became Anarchy because he believed that no one would ever rescue him again. And yet... There he was. Beaten and bloody, staring into the sky with the very same red eyes that had watched little Angel throw rocks at his bullies to scare them away. Anny almost laughed. The corner of his mouth lifted a little. Maybe him and Angel hadn't changed too much after all.
"... He couldn't have done this before Errorphim ERASED my house?" Xander's dry remark drew Anthony's attention, he glanced over his shoulder to see The Gatherer and The Predator standing behind him. Predator punched Xander in the arm to scold him, and the young Fortune couldn't help but flash her a small smile as he rubbed the bicep she'd hit. She smiled back. "Yeah, no, you're right. Better late than never."
Lexi shook her head at the sourpuss standing beside her, but her smile remained. She turned her head, and she set her eyes back on the rumbling sky overhead. Fortune City felt so far away these days, she could have sworn her teenage years were a century ago. Still, she smiled as she remembered the goofy nerd she used to date. The lengths he'd went back then just to see her smile, all the KINDNESS she could see inside him... She saw it now too, and it made her smile again.
The first time Xander met Angel he had his arm in a cast and looked like he was about ready to sink into the ground and rot. Now that arm was encased in holy flames and he had six wings to keep him in the sky. There was potential in Angel back then, Xander knew he could do incredible things but he didn't know if those things would be incredibly horrible or incredibly good. Now, he knew Angel could do both. Angel had taken much from Xander and Xander wasn't sure he could ever forgive him for that. But, now that the chips were down and everything was on the line, Angel was giving everything he had to make things right. Xander hoped that counted for something. Xander hoped that meant that, even if he never forgave Angel, the world would remember The Hacker as he was in this moment and forget who he had been in Fortune City.
Errorphim was sent flinging backwards through the air. Broken code shards ripped across the sky with him, and the air rippled and glitched around his wings when they snapped open and stopped his momentum. I listened to him snarl, I watched him throw his arms out to his sides and start to manifest bolts of JUSTICE on his finger tips. He threw his hands forward in the next instant, and rapid fire bullets explode off his phalanges.
A wave of JUSTICE raced across the sky towards me, the gold light of those bullets flashed across the glassed earth below. Still, I floated there with my arms crossed. My wings remained where they were, but the three holy rings that surrounded my body began spinning at increasing speeds. That barrage closed in... And then a tidal wave of red energy exploded out from my body. An unyielding blast of DETERMINATION, it fired across the sky and devoured Errorphim's attack in its mass.
"Impossible!" Order's Mad God denied furiously as he watched the power of my soul devour the power he'd stolen. His arms remained extended, but the glow on his finger tips turned to green and a wall of KINDNESS appeared before him just in time to stop that blast of red light from crashing into him. His wall cracked under the boiling blast of DETERMINATION, but it held. Errorphim was protected from the scarlet light blasting by, until twin green flashes crashed into his barrier.
Two perfectly circular sheets of KINDNESS stood vertically as they fired through the sky. They spun at high speeds, and my KINDNESS proved stronger than Errorphim's when those blades sliced right through his wall and continued on towards the mad god. Order's Mad God hardly had the time to widen his eyes before the brutal edges of those discs were cleaving through his shoulders. Pain ripped through him, and as the KIND discs fired by him, the both of his arms dropped from his body. A pure white ichor overflowed from his now exposed bone marrow, and his eye socket twitched as he looked between the two empty spaces where his arms should have been. "AGAIN?!"
Errorphim had about a second and a half to mourn the arms he was no longer attached to before I crashed into his sternum with a dropkick so hard that reality distorted around the two of us. Shards of broken code blasted through the air, and in the blink of an eye Order's Mad God was exploding into the glassed earth beneath my burning sky. His body tore through the cutting edges, chunks of his bone mixed with the reflective shards and washed up to the left and right of his gruesome impact. His body ripped a trench through the mirror, and when he finally stopped skidding, a supermassive eraser dropped from above.
Not attached to a pencil like most of my erasers, this one was a massive pink rectangle dropping down like a meteor. It eclipsed the sky over Errorphim, fire washed over it and then went out as it dropped through the atmosphere. Its shadow totally encompassed Errorphim and an entire football field's worth of space around him, and all he managed to do was weakly reach up with one still reforming arm before it landed on him like a shoe on a bug. Words were written atop the supermassive eraser: "For BIG mistakes!"
There was no sound when the eraser first landed. It was like the air was sucked out of the world. But, I could see the glass explode up into tidal waves around its impact. Razor sharp tsunamis were blasting out from every side of that crash, so I flicked my wrist, and green energy flared to life in the shape of an enormous halo. This halo encircled the entire glass blast, and immediately it began spinning at high speed. The force of my halo's spin caught the gruesome shard blast, dragging it into a spiral and redirecting its momentum straight up. A tornado of mirror shards blasted all the way to the burning sky, and every shard reflected the world.
I floated there in the sky, I watched that whirlwind of ripping death gradually slow while I sunk back towards the earth that I had scorched. I stopped a few inches above the glass surface, and by the time that I did my spinning halo had dissipated back into thin air. The last broken mirrors were clattering to the ground now, they were sticking in or bouncing off what remained of that now cut up eraser. I watched, and I waited... Until finally, a skeletal hand launched out of the pink prison, right through the hole in the the letter a within the word "mistake".
Another arm shot free, and Errorphim's sharp fingers clawed and tore until finally he was able to crawl out from within the prison of my eraser. He was gasping and sweating, there were still cracks and breaks being healed within his skeleton. He was on his hands and knees, staring with eyes that trembled furiously at the ridiculous attack that had smashed him. He might've thought that I thought he was a joke, but for me to think that I'd have to think he was funny.
His head finally lifted, and his glare settled upon me. I hadn't moved, didn't need to. I just continued to float there, watching as more skeletal hands ripped their way out from that pink plateau. Bone Soldiers were climbing up and out of the wreckage. Undead constructs, the way they tore out of that eraser made me think of abominations tearing their way out of hell. Still, I was hardly intimidated when they broke into a sprint. I watched them race in the hundreds towards their death, and I waited patiently to deliver it.
Before I had to, however, a glacier dropped from above. It smashed into the center of that rattling horde, its impact sent dozens of them flinging into the air and crushed dozens more under its mass. With that glacier came bolts of lightning and towers of flame, and with those boiling flares came sharpened shadows. That skeleton army was ripped apart before ever reaching me, I never had to lift a finger.
Crash!
In the very next instant, that glacier exploded open from its center. Screaming his wrath, Order's Mad God blasted right through that island of ice and raced through the air towards me. Over his obliterated constructs, past the raging power that had destroyed them and over the reflective floor I had created. He pulled back one hand and in it he commanded a scarlet saber to be made, but the moment he stabbed it out at me my right arm unfolded from where it was crossed over my chest.
The back of my hand smacked into the flat side of Errorphim's blade and my knuckles shattered that DETERMINED steel to pieces. Errorphim's eyes drew to the sight of his weapon being so easily destroyed, before the same hand that had destroyed it swung forward. I smacked Order's Mad God right across the face, the impact was so brutal that it nearly twisted his head backwards. Skull fragments flew off my fingertips, and while Errorphim's head was whipped to the side my left fist shot forward.
My knuckles blasted through his aura and his ribcage. My punch shot right up into his spine, and it collided with such force that a beam of red light launched out of Errorphim's back. His entire body folded around my punch, his jaws hung open and his eye sockets went dark... Then, he dropped back down to the burned dirt. He landed on his hands and knees, and I stared down at him with unmoved white eyes while I listened to him sputter and wheeze.
"... Is this the part where you tell me I cheated?" I asked when he tilted his head up and glared at me with those trembling eyes. I stared down at him with eyes that boasted no joy in his suffering, and I think that just made him angrier. He lifted his hand, tried to lunge up at me and stab me with his claws like some sort of animal. But my halos flashed, and his eye sockets went wide when he found his entire body encased and frozen in a prison of KIND energy.
"I-it wasn't..! Supposed to go like this..!" Errorphim's strained voice snarled through his grinding teeth. His body struggled and pushed, but every crack he managed to make in that Iron Maiden sealed itself nearly immediately.
"And how was it supposed to go?" I squinted my ivory eyes and tilted my head. My arms were crossed over my chest, my bottom wings were covering my feet while I floated over him. My lips dug down into a frown, and the air bubbled and boiled while I went on. "You thought you were gonna beat me? You thought you were just gonna blow us away and then obliterate everything you ever hated?"
"I will kill you..! You and all the abominations you've befriended..!" Errorphim refuted through his straining, but I knew a lie when I heard one.
"No. You won't." My eyes narrowed, and Errorphim's widened. Gravity intensified around the two of us, the glass floor crunched down into a crater beneath the weight of my multicolor soul. That KIND tomb moved around Errorphim, it forced him to lower his hand and bow his head. Once I'd forced Order's Mad God onto his hands and knees my bottom wings unfolded some, and I planted my foot on the top of his head. "No one's ever gonna hurt the people I care about again."
I could hear Errorphim's teeth grinding. He was snarling, the white light of his aura was bolting furiously against the KINDNESS that imprisoned him. But that Iron Maiden kept healing its own cracks, and that only made Errorphim more furious. Finally, he gathered the sense and the will to focus that crashing Light into his hands. I hardly reacted when my Iron Maiden shattered open over his hands, I was unphased by the white shockwave that blasted beneath me. Errorphim planted his palms to the glass, and I exhaled red mist through my teeth.
My middle wings beat and dragged me backwards when bone spikes started blasting up around Errorphim. My KINDNESS released him while calcium skyscrapers ripped through the mirror beneath. My halos spun, and any spike that tried to fire towards me was redirected without any effort. In the meantime, I glanced over to my left arm. I stared through the flames, and my ivory eyes narrowed as I watched those searing red cracks split wider.
My disinterested eyes darted forward once more, I watched BRAVE energy in the form of a dozen skeletal fists blast out from between the forest of bones before me. My wings beat, launching me higher into the sky and creating a shockwave that blasted those fists apart in the same motion. After ascending higher I stared down through the ivory towers in search of the mad god that fired those fists at me, and my brows raised as I watched twin freight bones blast up through their fellow towers and up towards me.
My arms unfolded while my lowermost wings curled in to cover my feet and my uppermost wings curled in to hide my face. My fingers spread, my palms opened and my arms reached out to the supermassive bones blasting up towards me. When they smashed into my palms, a beam of invisible force blasted up through my body. It shot high into the sky, it vanished in the burning light of the Deltarune I'd painted high above. And the both of those bones, each one with surface area fifty times my size, came to an instant stop against my palms.
Suddenly, multicolored pixels expanded across the air behind me, rapidly forming into Errorphim's body. The mad god teleported behind me, his arm was already pulled back across his chest and in its hand he had a white knuckled grip on a scarlet blade. He cleaved down at the back of my neck and aimed to slice my head off my shoulders, but one of the three halos circling my body spun into the path of his blade, and sparks shot through the air when DETERMINATION and KINDNESS connected.
Errorphim grinded his teeth the same way he grinded his blade against my halo, but my KINDNESS refused to give. I didn't bother turning my head to look at him, I didn't have to. The eyes upon the two pure white wings that covered my face blinked slowly, Errorphim grimaced when their wide and emotionless emerald stare centered on him. But, before Errorphim could double down on his attack or pull away, scarlet light blasted up into the sky with us, and Anny hammered his crowbar's bend right into the mad god's cheek bone.
Errorphim's face contorted around the impact of Anny's vicious strike, the shockwave blew Anny's blood stained hair out of his face and revealed his giddy shrunken pupils and his savage grin. In the next instant the force carried through, and Errorphim was sent blasting through the skyline. Anny backflipped and landed perched on one of the bones I'd stopped with my bare hands. Xander jumped up from the other one, he must have sprinted up its length. He yanked both his hands up over his head, black electricity jumped off his fingers before he whipped his hands back down. Lightning CRACKED! across the sky, and Darkness flashed across the mirror beneath when it exploded into Errorphim's divine bones.
The lightning cleared, and the three of us could all see Errorphim floating still. His arms hung limp, his wings twitched and jolted with left over voltage. Cracks defiled his bones, shadows slithered across his form... And then, crashing and roaring from below. Ice curved and snapped into place, it expanded and expanded into the shape of a massive construct. A meteor sized tiger head was sculpted from Lexi's ice, and Errorphim looked down just in time to see its enormous maw snap open.
CRUNCH!
I'd turned back to face Errorphim and the ice that chewed him, a slight smirk pulled up my lips while I floated there. My uppermost wings had unfolded to reveal my face, and over each of my shoulders Anny and Xander were perched on those freight bones. Lexi jumped down from one of the towers Errorphim had created, she landed perched atop a shorter bone tower that was standing between the two freight bones The Anarchist and The Gatherer stood upon. The four of us all enjoyed the view of that great ice head chewing Order's Mad God, and not one of us was surprised when finally ERASURE started to shoot out in beams from within the tiger's maw. More and more white lasers blasted out from within Errorphim's gnawing prison, before finally..!
BOOM!
White Light exploded through the sky. It ate through the ice tiger head, it expanded and devoured the peaks of whatever bone pillars were within its range. Errorphim floated at the center of this burning Light sphere, his wings spread wide and his hands held up high over his head. I didn't need more invitation than that; my wings beat, and my Fortune family recoiled in the shockwave that followed. in the blink of an eye I had crossed the skyline, and if Errorphim had eyes I was certain they would have bulged out of his head when I blasted both my feet into his solar plexus. His body crunched into a C shape around my gruesome drop kick, I was a red spear that had cleaved right through the sphere of his ERASURE.
The force carried through, and immediately Errorphim was firing like lightning back down from the sky. His body smashed through every bone pillar in his path like a stone through glass. Then his body struck the mirror beneath us, and he dragged across it, digging a trench with his broken bones once again. He skidded for a good long while before finally friction forced him to a stop, and his left eye socket was winced shut when he lifted his head and looked across the trench his impact had made. At the other end of that trench I floated with my arms held out to my sides and my wings covering my face and feet. Behind me, the bone towers that I'd launched Errorphim through were falling and crashing into the glass floor that I had created. Their impact threw up hundreds of broken mirrors, and Errorphim could see a lot that he didn't like in every single one of them.
Though sweat was pouring down his skull, Errorphim still forced his other eye socket open and his face still twisted with wrath. A flare of power launched him up to his feet, and he whipped his arms out to his sides. PERSEVERANCE flashed on his finger tips as he yanked his arms back inward, and purple energy whips cracked as they raced over the shattered mirror towards me.
My wings snapped open, and I pulled my arms in towards myself. Then, I yanked my arms back outwards, and whips of boiling ink cracked out through the air. Each and every one of my whips entangled each and every one of Errorphim's, and the mad god's eyes widened as his puppeteering hands were yanked straight out to his sides by my grip on his strings. Then, red lightning flashed across the wasteland, and in the next instant I was blasting my knee into Errorphim's chin.
A shockwave of soulpower sent glass shards firing out around the both of us before Errorphim was sent launching headfirst through another one of his towers. He managed to flip back and land on his hands and feet, his claws dug through the glass and slowed his momentum. All the while he stared forward, and he watched as that bone tower dropped down towards me after he snapped it in half. I continued to float closer, and when that massive calcium chunk dropped down too close I lifted my right hand and stopped its crushing weight with just one arm. Then, I effortlessly tossed it aside, and I bolted forward at a speed that was nearly impossible to perceive.
As I darted forward, I dragged back my burning left arm. The never ending torrent of DETERMINATION around my cracked limb focused inward on my command, it shaped and condensed into the form of a crimson blade over my arm. I drove that blade forward, and Errorphim's eye sockets snapped open wide when I stabbed it right through his ribcage. His eyes went totally dark, his hulking body crumpled inward around the scarlet steel that I drove up his ribs and out his back.
I didn't relent, I knew he wasn't ready to spit up Chara's soul just yet. So, instead I yanked that blade straight upwards, and ivory ichor flew up through the air as I ripped my arm up through Errorphim's chest and out his left shoulder. The mad god's body leaned back, he didn't make a sound and the lights didn't come back on in his eyes. His left arm and most of his left side clacked uselessly to the ground, and I yanked my blade back over my right shoulder, looking to slash through Errorphim's neck next.
Unfortunately, just as I started to swing, his one remaining arm darted out and his trembling fingers snapped shut around my elbow, just under the steel of my DETERMINATION. Errorphim's bones cracked as his head leaned down towards me. His jaws trembled open, and though the Light didn't return to his eyes, it did explode out of his maw. White Light fired out of him in a tidal wave, and it engulfed me in its roar at point blank range.
That white tidal wave raged across the mirror wasteland for a few long moments, illuminating all in its shine. But, when it finally faded, I was still standing. My feet planted in the cracked glass and my wings curled in to protect me, I'd been forced to skid back a few yards but there wasn't a scratch on me. I looked up from between my arms, which I'd lifted into an X to help guard from that burning ERASURE.
Through the smoke his laser had left Errorphim stumbled. His movements were stiff, his body was rigid. His arms were hanging limp, he'd rebuilt the left arm that I had cut off his body, but it looked... Wrong. Its colors were warped, it had yellow fingertips and red fingers. What was once pure black bone was tainted to reds and yellows, all wrapped by blue strings... Glitched. The mad god's teeth grit, and I could see the word "ERROR" flicker in his left eye socket once or twice. His aura was shining again, but that was wrong too. It was no longer a pure white, the orderly mix of a rainbow of color. Now, his aura was a chaotic mist. Red, yellow, green, purple, blue, orange, and cyan all flickered and flashed on his not-so-pure bones. My eyes narrowed at the sight of him, and I didn't smile while I made a conclusion aloud. "... You're dying."
"Yeah..?" Errorphim's eyes narrowed, I watched white pixels flash briefly over one of the sockets before disappearing. He smiled furiously while he nodded towards my own left arm. "So are you."
Silently, my ivory eyes glossed over to look back at my burning left arm. That inferno was only burning brighter, more and more DETERMINATION was pouring out of those scarlet cracks in my flesh and that was making them spread and widen. I watched a quarter sized flake of my own skin peel up and into the flame. It turned black in the heat, and then it broke away into dust. Those cracks were starting to creep from my shoulder and onto my chest, there were a few breaking out around the Deltarune on my back and at the base of each of my wings... Embers were flickering to life on my snow white feathers, one of them broke off and blew by in a gust of wind while I looked back to Errorphim and flashed him a smile. "C'est la vie."
Errorphim had either been hoping that I would panic or hated the French, because when I said that to him his smile peeled away into a snarl. His wings lifted, and my halos shrunk inward. Those KIND rings shifted and flew down onto my body; One wrapped itself around my forehead like a headband, the other two wrapped around the knuckles of my left and right fists. Then, Errorphim's wings beat downward, and he launched right at me.
I ducked my head to my left and let him drive his pointed fingers through the air over my shoulder. My left arm swung up and my knuckles cracked his jaw with a vicious uppercut, sending the mad god stumbling back a step. I darted in and fired a right hook at his nose (or lack thereof) but his wings hammered down and launched him up over my arm. Once there the mad god spun, slashing his heel down towards the crown of my head in a gruesome axe kick.
My feet remained steady, my knees bent but did not give when Errorphim's heel slammed down through the hole at the center of my halo, crashing into my noggin with a force that shattered the glass at my feet. My skin didn't split and neither did my skull, the ring wrapped around my forehead assured it. His glitching eyes narrowed furiously at this, and then my hands shot up and snatched ahold of his knee. I shifted my head out from under his foot and ripped him down through the air at breakneck speed, the mirror beneath shattered further and sent more reflective shards blasting up around the two of us under his impact.
My wings spread wide, the glow in their eyes reflected in all those shards before six lasers blasted out of them. Green, red, and white beams of searing energy all converged on Errorphim. They hammered down into his body, and he desperately hid behind his crossed arms while the force of their impact dragged him on his back across the mirror. He skidded further and further, his bones burned under my Light and more blue wires tangled the scorch marks to keep him together.
Finally, after being shoved back a dozen yards, multicolored Light suddenly exploded up and out of Order's Mad God. A crackling orange, green, and red whipped to life. It twisted in a sphere around him, engulfing him completely and guarding his body from the unrelenting heavenfire that my eyes rained down upon him. I watched that sphere of colors twist and rage, until suddenly its peak exploded open.
Errorphim launched over my lasers, and my head whipped up to spot him in the sky. His wings spread wide, his features were hidden in the shadow that my eye beams cast. My wings pivoted and dragged their lasers up to fry him, and his own wings beat, firing him down towards me. His body broke apart into those pixels when my tri-colored death beams closed in on him, making my eyebrows raise in surprise. Before I had time to react, those same pixels were rapidly reforming right in front of me, and through their cloud came Errorphim's fist.
His punch hammered into my chin so hard that my eye lasers shut off. My head was whipped back, I skidded back a step on my heels and Errorphim stomped forward right after me. He cocked back his other fist, and I turned my head back towards him just in time for him to blast me in the nose with it. This whiplashed my head back on my shoulders, giving Errorphim the opportunity to take another stomp forward. He dragged the both of his fists back to his hip and clenched them together, and then he spun his upper body and swung his intertwined fists like a hammer at my jaw.
Unfortunately for Errorphim, before his strike could connect my head swung back forward and my eyes snapped back open. When they did, piercing beams of soulfire shot from them. White eye beams blasted forward from the eyes on my face and they crashed right into Errorphim's own eye sockets, making him cry out in agony. His eye sockets snapped shut, black smoke burned out from between them and his hammer swing missed my head by a foot or two.
I darted forward and under Errorphim's blind swings, my fist shot up and I smashed a jab right into his teeth. He stumbled back, my other fist slashed up in a grizzly hook and nearly spun his skull around on his spine from the impact. I stomped forward, and the both of my hands swung up. My palms clapped brutally onto the sides of Errorphim's skull. My fingers snatched ahold of his head, and I yanked back my own head before pulling his forward and whipping my own forehead into his. A shockwave blasted out from the impact of my headbutt, a layer of glass was peeled away and Errorphim was sent launching head first back through the air.
The mad god managed to flip backwards after sailing for awhile. He landed on one knee and one hand, his free hand grasped furiously at his still burning eye sockets while he skidded to a stop. I stomped one foot forward while he was still blinded, breaking into a sprint. Errorphim's teeth grit, his fingers grasped something and he tore them away from his eyes. From the both of his eye sockets those horrible blue wires were overflowing, tangled now around the fingers of his right hand. He threw up his left hand, and a sphere of yellow and red Light expanded to life in his palm.
That soulpower blast fired out at me, and I lunged forward towards it. I slammed the both of my palms down onto that crackling sphere, front flipping over it and letting it explode into the ground behind me. This launched me forward at Errorphim, and I yanked back my burning left fist in preparation to cold clock him again. Unfortunately when I drilled my fist forward, He grabbed hold of the wires on his right hand with his left and he pulled them taught in front of his face.
My fist smashed into those strings, which bent but did not give. I shifted my hand against their razor sharp surface, opening my fist and fearlessly snatching ahold of the side of that wire wall. I yanked it aside with my burning fingers and whipped a right hook at Errorphim's face instead, but the mad god's jaws snapped open and his head lurched forward. I felt a brutal crunch race through my fingers, up my hand into my wrist and down my forearm. Errorphim had to bite my hand to stop that punch from connecting, and now my fist was trapped between his grinding teeth.
I got a good look at his face in that instant, and he hardly looked all that godly anymore. The both of his eye sockets were red now, his pupils were a bright yellow and the left one had a deep blue core. From the bottom of both his eye sockets blue color had overflowed and painted his black skull like tear stains. His left eye flickered every now and again with a quick ERROR code, and a white pixel or two would pop into existence every few seconds over his right eye before disappearing.
The searing grasp of my left hand was burning through Errorphim's strings, so he unhinged his jaw and let his wings beat, dragging him back a few paces away from me. Red and green light flared over my right hand, I felt my bones snap into place and I felt red cracks split open on two or three of my fingers. Another feather disconnected from my ivory wings, it blew through the air and ignited into scarlet flames before burning to silver ash.
Errorphim planted his feet in the glass and skidded to a stop, throwing his arms out to his sides. Light flashed in his palms, it flickered between green and red before finally two scarlet sabers ignited to life. His wired fingers snapped shut around the both of those blades, and when he crossed them over one another in front of himself parts of their steel turned green.
I thought about just blasting Errorphim with more eye beams as he stood there on his guard, but ultimately decided he wouldn't learn that way. So, instead I lifted my right hand and straightened its fingers upward. Then, I clenched my left fist and pressed the side of that fist into my open palm. An ivory shine bled through the space between my fingers, and then I pulled my fist away from my right hand. Ivory energy filled the space between my hands, it stretched and shaped into the curve of a blade. My burning left hand clenched tight around the handle of my white sword, and I pulled its point away from my right hand, instead pointing it at the mad god before me. My wings beat, and I launched forward.
Errorphim pulled back the both of his blades, slashing them up in an X at me as I got into range. but my wings beat once more, and all he managed to cut was another burning feather as I flipped over his hulking form. I landed crouched behind Errorphim, immediately lunging at his back with a fierce stab. His body swung back around, and his blade collided with mine, knocking it aside. Errorphim continued his rotation, stabbing his second saber at me. I hastily spun in air, planting my free hand on his forearm, shoving my body up over his and spinning over his stab.
I landed with my knees bent beside Order's Mad God, who immediately spun to face me. He grunted and snarled as he slashed and cleaved savagely with those blades, but I ducked and weaved between every cut, occasionally redirecting a slash with my own sword. I was forced to take step after step backwards, and Errorphim roared with fury as he pursued. "That blade isn't DETERMINATION and it isn't KINDNESS..! How glitched is your wretched soul that you can manifest such a color?! What is that shine?!"
"Are you really so far gone that you don't recognize it?!" I snarled right back, my wings beating and ripping me back and out of the range of twin stabs. Errorphim's own wings launched him right after me, and he brought the both of his flickering blades up over his head, diving towards me and cleaving down... Only for a wall of KINDNESS to flash to life in the path of his slashes and stop them dead. Errorphim hardly had the time to widen his glitching eyes before I ripped my own blade upwards, and ivory ichor glitched red as it sprayed through the air.
Errorphim's pupils shrunk, ERROR codes temporarily filed his left eye and more of those lost pixels glitched and vibrated around his right eye. I wondered if he felt déjà vu as he fell back flat on his ass. His swords disappeared, there was a red cut that had cleaved up from his left hip to his right shoulder, and a few more of those pixels flickered around its edges. The mad god's trembling eyes refocused when I planted my feet and pointed my blade right down at his face. His pupils almost crossed looking at the ivory point merely an inch or two from his nose hole, and my own eyes narrowed with bitter understanding. My voice, now more gentle, reminded the mad god. "... It's HOPE, Sans. Your soul used to be made of it."
Errorphim's brow bones twitched, more cold sweat was pouring down his skull. His right eye socket... Was it drooping? Another flake of skin burned away from the flaming arm that I held that HOPEFUL blade in, a single red crack split down from beneath my left eye like a stream of tears. And with my HOPEFUL eyes, I watched Errorphim's teeth grit. I watched that bleeding cut in his sternum refuse to heal, and I watched him dig his fingers into the ground regardless.
Order's Mad God screamed up at me, it was a shapeless and primal noise. Then, beams of Light began tearing up out of the earth around the both of us. Red, orange, cyan... My wings beat, they yanked me back through the air just before a geyser of rainbow energy exploded up around Errorphim. It totally engulfed him in its flare, and I had to lift one arm to guard my eyes from its twisting flare.
I skidded back on my heels when the explosive force of that geyser's ignition slammed into me, but before its Light could expand much further a circle of shadows whipped up around its base. Then, ice curved up around those shadows, and then a ring of fire ignited behind that ice. Those three walls lifted and fell, they raged right with Errorphim's tower of multicolored Light.
From above dropped the other three members of The Fortune City Four. Lexi landed to my left and Anthony to my right, while Xander landed right in front of me. All three of them stood spring loaded, drenched in blood and sweat and dirt but fighting on by my side regardless. I floated up off the ground, lifted into the air above the three of them while those flaring Lights died down so that I could better watch over them.
"Hah..! Agh..!" Errorphim's savage snarls echoed across the wasteland as his tower of Light faded away. With it, the ice shadows and fire all died down as well, and the four of us could all see the mad god standing before us. His wings drooped at his sides, his knees were bent. He stood on a broken mirror, his body reflected in a thousand distorted angles. His string-tangled multicolored hands covered his face while he shook his head, before finally he ripped his hands forward and yanked his head back. Between his fingers he clenched more of those blue wires, and their thin metal screeched as they were dragged over the bottom of his eye sockets and out of his skull. "This..! Isn't right..!"
My eyes narrowed bitterly down at the mad god below. Those white pixels were flickering on his wings now, too. Blue strings had been sewn through the gruesome slash I left in his abdomen, dragging the wound as close to closed as they could. His mad eyes flashed ERROR codes and his right eye socket sunk in a little more as he looked between The Predator, The Gatherer, and The Anarchist. Then, that twisted glare darted up to me, and he choked out more words through his snarl. "Glitches! What makes your lives worth more than my Will..?! Who are you to deny my dream?!"
"We already told you, but you weren't listening!" I dropped down from the air above, floating just above the unbroken mirror underneath me and now standing between Order's Mad God and my friends. My wings spread wide being me, their eyes all stared at Errorphim while a few patches of flames continued to burn their ivory feathers. Red flames ignited over the both of my eyes, but that white glare cut through the scarlet glow. I pointed my cracked and burning left hand at Errorphim and declared for him and anyone even half as dumb as he was to hear: "We're the Fortune City Four, and if anybody wants to fuck with our multiverse they gotta get through us to do it!"
Errorphim's teeth ground together, his browbones twitched and his eye sockets trembled with rage. Then, his fingers still tangled in the strings dangling from his eyes, the mad god's head lurched forward and his jaws snapped open. A horrible, primal roar exploded out of his maw, followed immediately by a tidal wave of searing Light. Seven colors blasted out from Errorphim's jaws; they twisted together into a drilling rainbow and they blasted right at me.
I didn't dodge and I didn't summon a defense. On the contrary, my wings hammered down and I fired right at that wall of burning Light. I reached out my shining left hand as I approached that twisting power, I clenched my fist and those burning colors were forced to split around my knuckles. The wave of Errorphim's blast widened around my body as I shot into it, and the six winged shadow of my form raced up through the swirling Light at mach speed.
Errorphim didn't know what was happening until my burning fist fired out of his laser and into his forehead. A scarlet shockwave exploded out around the impact, and his laser came to an immediate stop. I drove him down on my fist, slammed him head first into the glass below and kept him skidding across the brutal, cracked surface. I shifted on top of him, planted one foot in his sternum and the other on his pelvis. Shards of glass flew up around the two of us as I used his body like a surf board, until finally my wings spread wide and the wind resistance yanked me up and off of Errorphim. The moment I was gone, a skyscraper sized pencil dropped from above, and the earth quaked the instant that its eraser slammed down onto Errorphim.
Enormous cracks split the mirror. They ripped across the melted earth for miles, and clouds of broken code rose up from their deep trenches. Far in the distance, the horizon clipped into the earth. Up above, burning scarlet code was breaking off and falling down to earth. The world was breaking, the sky was falling. This timeline was reaching its end. Errorphim was out of time. I was out of time.
"N-nngg..! Gnn..!" Desperate grunts drew my eyes back to the task at hand. Errorphim had managed to get up underneath that supermassive pencil. He shifted its gruesome weight onto his shoulders, spread his arms and wings wide and still struggled with his knees bent and his neck craned underneath it. I watched disinterested, holding my right arm out to my side. Green light flashed in the scarlet cracks now spread across my right palm, before another thin disc of emerald energy appeared floating over my palm. Errorphim clearly remembered the sharp edge of my KINDNESS discs, because he started pushing more frantically and to no avail.
Order's Mad God gradually forced his wrist to turn while I pulled back that spinning disc. As I whipped my hand and launched my attack towards him, he managed to flatten his palm against the eraser trying to squish him. In the next instant, as that disc fired through the air towards him, a wave of white pixels fired up the length of that supermassive pencil instead of the usual shining ray of Errorphim's ERASURE. And though before his power had devoured entire cities and left nothing left, now those broken white pixels only managed to eat away chunks of that pencil as they gnawed up it.
Luckily, that was enough for Errorphim. That pencil broke into pieces and Errorphim had just enough time to shrug the eraser off his shoulders with one arm and swing the fist of his other down at the KINDNESS coming to kill him. His string tangled hand smashed through the flat side of that KIND disc mere seconds before it could cleave him in half, and a thousand emerald shards flew through the air... Before my burning left fist shot through and blasted into Errorphim's jaw.
The mad god's face contorted around my fist, his jaw nearly detached from his skull. Then, the force carried through, and he was sent blasting head first back through the air. My wings beat, and in an instant I was flying right beside his prone body. I spun my body and swung my knee upwards, it hammered into the center of Errorphim's spine and forced his tall body to bend backwards. His vision blinked in and out, and by the time it came back on I was coming down from above with a gruesome left hook.
My scorched fist once more crashed down into the space between Errorphim's eyes, the impact drove him straight down. His momentum came to a stop when I drove his head like a stake straight into the glass, and I landed crouched beside him. Immediately I spun, throwing out one leg and blasting a kick into his back. A red shockwave blasted out from the impact, and Order's Mad God was sent skidding on his head back across the shattered mirror of this world.
He slid for awhile, but finally friction dragged his face to a stop and the rest of his body tumbled down to the ground. He barely managed to land on his hands and knees, and when he lifted his heavy head and his delirious eyes landed on me he saw that I was floating slightly off the ground once more. My wings were spread wide behind me, more of their burning feathers broke free and blew into ash in the wasteland winds. I reached out to him with my open left palm, the skin of which had been all but completely scorched away. Scarlet cracks ran through muscle and bone, blood sizzled into mist and disappeared in the DETERMINED flames.
Errorphim had to blink ERROR codes and Lost Soul pixels out of his eyes, and then he heard a powerful buzz. Gradually he managed to lift his heavy head, and honestly he didn't even look surprised or angry when he saw a trio of those human skulls staring down at him. Each one had a different glow in its eyes and in its maw, but all three of them were locked in on him and no one else. Errorphim hardly had time to react, and in the blink of an eye scarlet light, emerald light, and ivory light exploded out of their respective Killer Cannons, engulfing the mad god in twisting and searing power.
The flaring Light reflected on my burning body, it flashed across my face. But I didn't wince, I didn't lift an arm to try and guard my eyes. I didn't move. I just stood there with my flaming arm outstretched. More fire spread across my feathers, more cracks split my skin. I didn't care. Those Killer Cannons spun in a circular motion while they fired, glass shards flung in all directions. Code distorted and broke while red, green, and white light raged across the wasteland. The wrath of The Seraph was upon Order's Mad God, and there was nothing he or anyone else could do to stop it.
Finally, after I felt I'd blasted him enough and I'd grown tired of the searing pain in my left arm, I lowered my hand. Those lasers gradually powered down, my Killer Cannons eventually stopped spinning and then vanished into thin air. in their wake, smoke and mist lifted up towards the falling sky. A crater of molten glass steamed before me, and in the center of that crater Errorphim laid flat on his face. His arms, his legs, his wings. All limp in the bubbling mirror. If I was even a little dumber I would have thought he was dead. But, eventually, he started to twitch with life. The music faded out.
"T-this... This, isn't... right..." I heard Errorphim stammer while he stuck his hand in the steaming, reflective ooze beneath him. He tried to push himself up, but his hand slipped, and he face planted in the muck with a pathetic splat! Once he was there, I heard him grumble some more. "This is all wrong..!"
"What are you talking about?" I hesitated to ask, but asked all the same. I floated closer to that bubbling pit, hovering inches above the glassed earth beneath. My bottom wings curled in to hide my feet again, but my uppermost wings did not yet hide my face. My shining eyes narrowed down at Errorphim with some pity and some disgust, and I listened to him ramble on.
"You, your friends..!" The both of Errorphim's hands shoved into the mush, and when he lifted his head to glare up at me I could hardly see his right eye through the pixels crowding its melted shape. The mad god had to blink a few times, his left eye socket was clouded by ERROR codes. Still, he got to his knees, and when his vision did clear he looked down to the mirror mud he was kneeling in. Though the surface was reflective, its liquid state couldn't quite get Errorphim's shape. It was mostly just his colors that were reflected back at him, strange and abstract and broken... He lifted his string tangled hand into his line of vision, and his voice trembled as he went on. "... Even me. Even these, souls... None of us are supposed to be this..!"
I floated there in silent contemplation of Errorphim's words. I stared down at him, and I tried to understand his obsession with what things should and shouldn't be. I'd met a handful of me's, after all. But I'd never been able to categorize any of them into the 'right' and the 'wrong' versions of me, myself included. So, I shook my head, and even though he didn't deserve it I offered Errorphim what I believed to be the truth. "No one's supposed to be anything, Error. We are all only what we choose to be."
"..." Errorphim didn't get angry when he heard that. He paused, and the tremble in his raised hand slowed... Before it dropped back into the mirror mud. And Errorphim knelt there, his arms limp at his sides and his wings drooping into the mud behind him. He lifted his head to look back up at me, and those ERROR codes vanished momentarily from his eye. Those pixels cleared for just a second. "... I didn't choose to be this."
Again, I thought quietly about what Errorphim said. And this time I knew it to be true. Error hadn't stolen those souls, they were thrust upon him. Much of this life had been thrust upon him, much of life was thrust upon all of us. So, even though I sympathized with the pain and the confusion in the eyes of Order's Mad God, I didn't excuse the blood on his hands or the machinations in his soul. "... Yeah, but you also didn't choose to stop being this."
Errorphim didn't say anything in response to that. He just knelt and stared as those pixels clouded back over his melted right eye socket. A red crack split down from the corner of my own right eye; blood tried to overflow from it but was immediately boiled and burned away. The scarlet core of my soul almost totally eclipsed the green that surrounded it, the red shine was blinding. Errorphim cracked a sad smile, and then a pillar of bone exploded up from beneath him. My head tilted back, I watched him drag himself high into the sky on that platform because his wings could no longer do the job. And I knew I could have punched that tower out from under him and punched him a hundred times in the face before he hit the ground, but instead I let my upper wings shroud my face and beat my middle wings, launching myself up into the sky after Errorphim.
Errorphim managed to climb up to his feet while he waited for me to reach him. He straightened his knees, then his spine. He lifted his head, and he looked out at a broken world with two broken eyes. Flaming code was drifting down from above more frequently. He thought it might have looked like snow, but it'd been too long since he'd last seen snow to be sure. That red sheet covering the sky above, and even the Deltarune branded onto it. Looking up at it, was this feeling how he used to feel underground? Errorphim lowered his head to look forward. I was floating in front of him, my wings were spread wide behind me and all eight of my eyes laid upon him. Pencil pillars had risen to Errorphim's left and right, Lexi and Xander were perched upon the both of them. Behind him was the fourth pillar, and Anthony stood tall upon it. He was surrounded, but he still cracked a smile.
"It's strange being so many, Angel." Errorphim didn't hesitate to say. He kept his eyes on me, didn't bother with the other three. Must not have had anything to say to them, but apparently he had something more for me to hear. "All these different souls, squirming. Feeling..."
"They're afraid of you, you know. At least, some of them." Errorphim went on before I could respond, and I furrowed my brows with some confusion. I thought about demanding that he get to the point, but ultimately decided to let Errorphim take his time. Him and I were both running out of time, I thought that we should both savor this final hour. "They scream and demand that I run away, and I can't be sure when its them saying it and when it's me saying it. They believe that you are certain death."
I tilted my head some, narrowing my curious eyes at Order's Mad God. A warm wind blew by, it carried flaming bits from the falling sky. Errorphim shook his head, and then he dared to go on. "But, some of them believe that you're here to save them. Some of them believe that they love you, Angel."
"... And what do you believe, Error?" I asked Order's Mad God. A few feathers fell from my wings, their pure white color was burned black on some edges by the red embers continuing to grow on my wings. My three halos were circling my body again, and the three words engraved in each of them - "HOLY, HOLY, HOLY" - were burning brighter. The red shine of those words was sending cracks splitting through the green.
"I believe that you aren't going to let me clean this multiverse." There was a certain acceptance in Errorphim's tone, it made my eyebrows raise. He'd been so stubborn last time I killed him, I fully expected Errorphim to flail and pout and curse this time around too. I thought I would have to drag him kicking and screaming to the afterlife. But he didn't kick and scream. In fact, he grinned while he went on. "But, I also believe that taking you to the grave with me is a good enough consolation."
Xander, Lexi, and Anthony all looked to me when Errorphim said that, but I kept my eyes on the mad god. I knew it was obvious by now, the cracks in my body and the flames on my wings. My soul was burning hot and it was burning fast. Errorphim wasn't gonna die alone, and there wasn't a thing anyone could do to change that now. With that in mind, I let a KIND smile overtake my face.
"Do me a favor, Error, and let every part of you know that there's nothing to worry about." I kept that sweet smile on my blood stained face while I lifted my burning left hand out to my side and forced my charred fingers to open. The Light of my HOPE ignited once more in that scorched hand, it grew and shaped into a blade made to kill a god. I forced my burning fingers to snatch that saber's handle, and I assured Errorphim with nothing but KINDNESS. "Because it's gonna be over soon."
Errorphim lurched forward in the very next instant. His jaws snapped open, and he exhaled a wall of rainbow heavenfire upon me. Hastily I yanked up my right arm, and when my palm snapped open the red cracks at my wrist splintered all the way down to my elbow. I winced at the pain this caused me, but still a circular wall of KINDNESS appeared before me. Errorphim's fire crashed into that wall, but my KINDNESS didn't give. A cone of rainbow Light crashed around me, I disappeared within its shine.
Lexi and Xander moved to strike, but they hardly got the change to flinch before Errorphim threw up his arms and forced his wired fingers to spread. Light flashed in his palms, and in an instant The Predator and The Gatherer were trapped in a mix of green and cyan light. This hardly accounted for Anthony though, who dove at Errorphim from behind, yanking his crowbar back over his shoulder and swinging it at the back of the mad god's skull.
Errorphim ducked down just in time, letting Anny's crowbar swing just over his head and forcing The Anarchist to have to spin with his momentum. The mad god pivoted on his foot, clamping his jaws shut and stopping his fire breath to cock back his straightened fingers. Once he'd turned to face Anny, who was still suspended in the air over him, he shoved those fingers up and tried to pierce the heart of the Ghoul with their point. But, before he could make contact, boiling hot whips of ink snapped around his elbow like puppet strings and forced the limb to an immediate stop. Errorphim only had a split second, and he wasted it glaring over his shoulder, down those strings, up my arm and at me.
Still over the mad god, Anthony once more yanked back his crowbar and with all his might he sent it hammering down into Errorphim's jaw. This impact sent a gruesome shockwave blasting out through the sky, it was red and it was black and it was blue. The vibrations fired all the way down that bone pillar, they blasted through the earth and sent even more cavernous cracks crashing through the glass planet on which we stood. Then, Order's Mad God was sent launching at a sound-barrier-shattering speed on a diagonal track down towards the shattering mirror down below, encased in scarlet flames all the way down like a comet.
Errorphim blasted into the ground, and with how high up we were every one of us could see the way the world shattered and broke around his impact. That bone tower and the pencils I'd erected around it trembled and shook, the ground they had burst from was falling apart and they were becoming less stable. Xander had to crouch and plant one hand on his platform, and his purple eyes darted between the crumbling earth and the falling sky before jumping back to me. "This timeline isn't going to last much longer!"
"We have to finish this, NOW!" Lexi agreed, ice holding her feet to the eraser she stood on while its pencil jarred and sunk.
"Lexi, take the left! Xander, the right!" I ordered hastily, my eyes darting between The Predator and The Gatherer as I gave their respective orders. The both of them nodded, before Lexi jumped off her platform and to the left. Immediately ice formed into a rail beneath her, and she skated effortlessly down it, resting her scythe over her shoulders and grinning like a mad woman. Xander jumped to the right, and from the bottoms of his bare feet white hot flames exploded to life. they launched him forward and down in the direction of order's mad god, and he wore an honest smirk all the while.
Propane Nightmares by Pendulum started playing.
"Well, Anny?" I smiled after watching the two of them go, turning my head back to my brother. Anthony furrowed his brows at me, he looked a little confused. That just turned my smile into a smirk, and Anny found himself smirking too when I held up my cracked left fist for a fist bump. "You ready to kill a god?"
"I hope you're not plannin' on usin' that stupid dome thing again." Anny joked dryly while he lifted his own fist. I laughed, and then we bumped our knuckles together. Anny assured while the two of us turned our bodies to face the mad god down below, "I'm sure as hell not gonna hold him in place for it this time."
"Nah, I've got somethin' else in mind." I said, and apparently that was all Anny needed to hear. He bent at the knees, and when he lunged forward off the bone tower the force of his jump sent the entire pillar crashing backwards.
Anthony The Anarchist sailed down through the air and towards the ground. His scarlet eyes locked onto Errorphim; the mad god had stopped his backwards sliding and was now standing hunched forward. Order's Mad God whipped his head back and snapped his jaws open, and in an instant a beam of rainbow Light was firing up at Anny. But, before it could crash into him, he threw his arms up over his head. And I flew by above him, grabbing him by the wrists and yanking him up over that laser. The two of us sailed across the burning skyline, and I heard Anny cackling with joy through the whipping winds.
Errorphim ripped his hand through the air, and his fingers tore open rifts in the air. Through those rifts, billions of tiny code shards exploded out at mach speed. Those razor shards blasted up to meet us, so I folded my wings and Anny and I took a nose dive. We dropped down at a steep angle, and when a spike of bone fired up to meet us in air my right wings flapped down and my left pulled up, yanking the two of us into a corkscrew motion. Anny laughed and shouted with the joy that this rush of motion gave him, and the both of us spiraled down around that bone, never touching it.
As we neared the ground, I swung my arms forward and released Anny, launching him forward. He hit the ground in a sprint, and a moment later I was flying right beside him, trails of flames tailing my wings. Across the shattering plain, Errorphim pulled his arms up over his head, and on this command the ends of bones of varying sizes began jutting out of the earth all around him. Then, he whipped his hands out to his sides, and those wretched blue wires fired out from his fingertips, snatching ahold of random bones just so that he could whip his hands forward, ripping whatever bones were grabbed out of the earth and sending them launching forward at us.
This hardly deterred Anny and I. In fact, we picked up our speed in the face of Errorphim's barrage. We moved in unison, darting in and out and side to side around the mad god's vicious assault but never slowing our breakneck race towards him. A particularly massive bone fired towards Anthony head on, and he jumped, hammering his crowbar down into the front of the bone and sending its front half crashing into the earth while throwing its back half up into the air. He sprinted up the length of that tree-sized bone, and as he jumped off the end of it he yanked his crowbar back and whipped it through the air towards me. "Angel!"
I didn't have to look to know our Inheritance was racing closer. I reached back with my scorched left hand and snatched that crowbar from the air, before immediately swinging it forward and smashing apart the spike heading right for my molten soul. My arm whipped back and forth, crushing a dozen more calcium spears before I whipped that crowbar back through the air and out towards my brother. "Anny!"
Anthony was still dropping down from above, and underneath him a Godly Gaster Blaster's maw was flickering with seven different lights. Anny's scarred hand caught our Inheritance, and he immediately yanked it up over his head, only to bring it crashing down on the forehead of that snarling skull. The Godly Gaster Blaster exploded into a cloud of bone fragments and glass shards around Anny's impact, and through that cloud of dust Anny blasted in the next instant, still keeping pace with me into the wrath of Order's Mad God.
Errorphim's arms swung back and forth, he threw bones on strings and he threw orbs of red/yellow/purple light. Anny and I were two bolts of scarlet lightning, and we darted between each and every attack that came our way. Our crowbar was pitched back and forth between us again and again, smashing whatever would be too time consuming to dodge. Finally, Errorphim drew in a deep breath. His chest puffed out, and a rainbow of color burned up and out of his ribcage. Then, he lurched forward, and his jaws snapped open to release a massive beam of twisting color.
Errorphim slowly moved his head from left to right, and like a flamethrower that scorching laser swept out across the land towards us. Even still, Anny and I blasted right towards that crashing wall of Divine Light. And just as its tidal wave crashed down towards us, Anny bent and straightened his knees, launching himself upwards. My wings beat, and the both of us front flipped right over that tidal wave of soulpower.
Our feet crashed down into the ground. We landed side by side, and our impact was so powerful and the ground was so treacherous that the mirror broke beneath us, tilting down into the earth and hastily shifting from being floor to being wall. But me and Anny, we didn't stumble. We bent our knees, we charged our spring loaded bodies. The air cracked and popped and burned, and then the both of us shot head first at Errorphim like a twin pair of god-seeking missiles. The force from our jump totally obliterated that mirror wall, it left a triple layered red shockwave exploding behind us.
Errorphim recoiled as he watched two bolts of scarlet lightning fire right at him. He stood up straight, and as one last ditch effort he yanked his left hand over his right shoulder. Seven different lights flashed in his open palm, but with all the Will he had left Errorphim commanded red. In the blink of an eye, a massive sword exploded to life in the mad god's grasp. DETERMINATION stretched high, wide, and sharp. And with all his might, Order's Mad God swung that stolen red sword at Anny and I in an attempt to cleave us in two.
We were moving too fast to pivot, the wind resistance kept down his arms and my wings. But, it didn't matter. Anthony and I opened our jaws, and our primal screams resonated together as we shot teeth first at Errorphim's stolen blade. Code sliced and broke apart in its wake, its edge was about to crash into us. But, then our jaws snapped shut, and in unison, with the same savage look in our eyes, Anthony and I bit down on Errorphim's blade with all our might. Our teeth grinded DETERMINED steel to a halt, and then our teeth crushed right through. Cracks blasted through Errorphim's sword, it shattered apart! And just like that, we were upon the mad god!
Still moving in perfect sync, Anny and I threw our heads down and kicked our legs up. We spun at the exact same speed, performed dual front flips and roared the exact same battle cry. Errorphim barely had time to widen his eyes, before the both of our drop kicks blasted right into his face. My foot smashed one side of his face, Anny's smashed the other. The ground exploded apart, glass shards reflected nothing but red before a seven layered shockwave sent those shards exploding away. And Errorphim's head was shoved back, his neck craned and his back arched, his bones creaked as they tried to keep his head attached to his shoulders. Then, a BOOM! from the shattering sound barrier, and Order's Mad God was sent blasting backwards head first at sonic speed.
Anny and I hit the ground, we landed on our feet and had to turn to our left and right respectively. We skidded to a stop while standing back to back, and we were both smiling at the sight of Errorphim skidding on his back across the crumbling mirror. But, ever defiant, Errorphim mustered what strength he had and kicked up his legs, flipping himself with his momentum and managing to land on his hands and feet. But, even with his toes and fingers clawing desperately into the earth, he continued to slide.
Finally, Errorphim threw his head back. He straightened his back, forced his aching body to stand and clenched both of his fists at his sides. And he lurched forward, tried to throw an open palm and launch some sort of attack... Only for icy chains to swing in, wrapping around that arm and dragging it out to its side. Those chains pulled tight, their freeze spread up Errorphim's tangled arm while the mad god's head spun to see Lexi The Predator standing at the other end of the chain. She'd wrapped both her hands around it and planted her feet, and she flashed her madwoman grin when she saw that Errorphim was looking at her. "Well Twitchy, it's been real and it's been fun!"
Errorphim lifted his opposite hand, color flashed on his finger tips in preparation to waste The Predator. But then whips cracked, and his broken eyes widened when burning flames tangled his opposite arm and pulled it out to his side. His head whipped to the other side to look down the scorching serpent tangling his limb, and Errorphim snarled furiously when he saw Xander The Gatherer standing there. He planted his feet and he had the both of his hands wrapped around that flaming whip, and with a tired smirk he assured Errorphim. "But it hasn't been real fun!"
Errorphim yanked desperately on the strings restraining him, but they refused to give. ERROR codes and white pixels covered his limp wings, the sewn shut slash in his abdomen burned. He could hardly see through his glitched and melted eye sockets, but after a few blinks he spotted Anthony The Anarchist sprinting across the Valley of Shadow and Death towards him. He ran low to the ground, dragging his crowbar across the glass and leaving an ever stretching shadow in its wake. His teeth grinded furiously, scarlet flames were exploding out of the soul burning on his chest and they were flaring out from the corners of his mouth. He raced right up to where Order's Mad God was restrained, and as he sent that crowbar blasting up towards Errorphim's chin with all his might he shouted. "This one's for Jevil, you fucking cocksucker!"
WHAM!
Reality twisted and bent under the force of that gruesome crowbar crash, shattered code blew to nothing in the shockwave of red. The explosion of DETERMINATION blew apart Lexi's chains and Xander's whips. Errorphim was released, and the impact of Anthony's strike sent him firing into the sky at a nearly incomprehensible speed. Anny skidded to a stop, he whipped his head back to watch Errorphim launch upwards and he shouted up into the falling sky in unison with Lexi and Xander. "ANGEL! FINISH IT!"
Errorphim's eyes were clenched shut in agony. He sailed up into the burning sky, limp. The FIGHT, beaten entirely out of him. By Character, by Lexi, by Xander, by Anny, by Jevil, by Spamton, even by Mako and George. I appeared seemingly out of thin air behind him. For just a moment, my body was a black shadow encased in the scorching red Light of my aura. Then, all eight of my eyes snapped open wide, and ink shot out from the Deltarune branded on my back. It flew forward, and like a spider's web or a puppet's strings it tangled around Order's Mad God.
We spun as we ascended, now tied together. My strings forced Errorphim to spin around and face me, and with his arms and legs completely tied together I had my opening. My wings spread wide, their span cast shadows all across the broken earth beneath. An inferno was pouring out of my soul, it encased my left and my right arm. My three massive halos no longer circled my body, instead they floated parallel around Errorphim and I. As I grit my teeth and as white flames exploded to life around my eyes and HOPEFUL Light gleamed in my scarlet heart, I heard the voice of Genesis The Killer cry out in my head and I read his words before my eyes.
*Now's your chance, Angel! MAKE YOUR WISH!
My jaws forced their way open, and crimson flames exploded out of my mouth at the same time as a powerful, primal scream. My fingers, cracked and scorched, reached down. They dug into that sewn up gash cleaved in Errorphim's body, and with all my might, I pulled. Those blue strings stretched and snapped, white Light began to stream out of Errorphim as I forced that cut open like a sliding doorway.
More strings snapped, cracks shot up my shoulders and across my shoulder blades. In the blink of an eye, the dozen small fires on my ivory wings suddenly exploded into one massive inferno. Still, my burning wings remained spread wide. Their bloodshot eyes stared, ever KIND and ever DETERMINED and ever HOPEFUL, as I forced Errorphim's sternum to split further and further.
Suddenly, as that gateway ripped a little further, those stray beams of white Light from within focused in and intensified on my burning body. The shine blasted into me and it tried to wash me away. But I focused harder, I kept my Will fixated on what I wanted more than anything. What I would sacrifice anything, even my own life, to make happen. And that pure white light broke into a rainbow of color as more strings snapped and Errorphim's body ripped open further.
Errorphim was screaming too, but my noise drowned him out. His head was tilted back, his jaws were open and all color was burned from his eye sockets. Around us, the sky shattered. Lightning blasted, thunder boomed, but none of it drowned out my demand. The air ignited, and code burned to nothing around the two of us as a sphere of thermonuclear DETERMINATION exploded to life around us.
That scarlet orb twisted and raged, electricity crackled across it and reality cracked and broke around it. My three halos closed in around it, and they trembled and cracked as they tried to keep its raging heat focused. Those ink strings boiled away, and Errorphim's trembling hands gradually started to lift to try and push me away. They never got close enough, though. First, the blue strings tangling his fingers melted to nothing, and then his fingers too started to droop and sag. Still, even through their melting, Errorphim's hands grasped desperately towards my face. But more cracks split out around my eyes, and more strings snapped, and Errorphim's fingers melted to charred black sludge before they could ever touch me.
Errorphim's arms fell limp to his sides when the last of the strings holding his chest together broke, and I ripped his sternum completely open with my molten hands. The head of Order's Mad God fell back limp, his jaw remained slacked in a silent scream as his bones continued to sag and droop and melt. The Lights never did come back on in Errorphim's eyes, but the ERROR codes burned away and so did the white pixels. All strings melted off of his body, and without their grasp holding him together, his body was melting away.
I held open the gateway, and I stared with HOPEFUL eyes into the twisting infinity trapped within. I never blinked in that rainbow of Light, I just continued to roar and rage my Will against it. My wings were scorched as black as the ink they had spawned from, their eyes slowly closed and they did not open again. My Divine Will held open the gateway, my Divine Will held my own crumbling body together in the atomic blast of my soul's self destruction.
And then... The Light changed. It shifted, from a rainbow blast into a pure cyan wave. It didn't burn anymore, I couldn't feel it resisting. Instead, the Light of PATIENCE washed over me, and then it was gone. In its place, a bright orange wave washed over me. I felt BRAVERY on my skin, and it never hurt as it passed me by. After it came a wave of deep blue, the shine of INTEGRITY washed over me. Still, I didn't relent. I reached deeper, I focused harder. Purple flashed, PERSEVERANCE washed over me but it wasn't what I was looking for. Next was green, a familiar KIND glow but not what I needed. That color passed me by, and I felt the golden shine of JUSTICE wash through my soul. But then, that golden Light faded away, and reality had no other option. Possible and impossible had to submit, and let my Will be done.
Crimson Light poured out of the molten husk that was Errorphim's body, and the moment it did the atomic inferno of my DETERMINATION began to draw into it. I felt DETERMINATION that was not my own against me, and I refused to let it wash away. I roared with all my might, and as my six wings crumbled and broke and my flesh cracked and burned, I watched something take shape in all that swirling red energy. A simple shape. A scarlet heart.
I felt relief hit my heart when I saw that DETERMINED soul, but I didn't let it distract me. Errorphim's melted body slipped through my fingers in chunks and splattered on the glass far beneath. My DETERMINATION poured into the DETERMINATION flowing out of order's dead god. The raging red lights mixed, and something deep in that infinite void gleamed... And then, a hand reached out.
Bones formed, muscles wrapped around them and skin around the muscles. That storm of DETERMINATION was pouring into the building body, and I felt that raging power start to release. my eyes gradually widened, my pupils shrunk as that arm reached up and out of that tear in infinity. Another arm followed it, and as the both of them reached up past my head, I could see a face in the twisting Divinity. I felt those arms wrap around my shoulders, and I felt tears flood my eyes as Chara reached out from the jaws of death and clung onto me.
I let go of that molten sludge the moment Chara was free of it, the gateway to eternity disappeared and all Divinity was gone from whatever remained of Errorphim's body. The burning red sphere had disappeared into Chara's new body, and when they clung to me and hugged me tight, my burning wings curled in around us to hide their nudity from the world. I heard their voice in my ear for what felt like the first time in forever, and I couldn't stop the tears from overflowing.
"I'm here, I'm here! It's okay, I'm here. You did it. You saved me." Despite the world ending around us and despite the fact that they'd just been ripped back into this mortal coil, the very first thing Chara did was hug me and tell me that everything was okay. I felt one of their hands on my back, it was a cool and soothing sensation on the burning Deltarune engraved upon me. Their other hand was on the back of my head, their fingers tangled in my hair while they quietly and calmly lead me back from my path into infinity and Divinity, back to reality. And the reality was, Chara was alive. They were safe, they were in my arms. The music stopped as Chara went on, "You can stop now, okay..? It's okay, you did it. The fight's over, Angel. We won."
"W-we... We won..?" I almost couldn't believe it out of my own mouth, let alone Chara's. Those tears were pouring down my face now, my expression trembled and I tried to stifle a sob. Gradually, my burnt and cracked hands lifted, and I wrapped my arms around Chara. I felt them there, and I held them tight as I took a sharp inhale through my teeth and buried my face in their shoulder.
I heard Chara do a sort of half relieved laugh and half sob, and I felt them squeeze me tighter too. The three halos that encircled us cracked apart, they crumbled into emerald shards and they blew away in the wind. The halo over my head did the same, and all six of my wings were merely burning skeletons now. Devoid of feathers, crumbling slowly as Chara and I gradually floated back down towards the shattered mirror beneath. The ground was nothing but floating islands of glass now, this timeline was wreckage. The world had ended. But Chara was safe, so I didn't care.
Slowly, Chara slid their hands up from my back and around from the back of my head. They pulled away a little, and I saw a few tears on their cheeks as they held my face and looked into my KIND green eyes. In spite of those tears, they had the biggest smile on their face, and that made me start to smile. Slowly, I moved my own hands up to hold their face the same way that they held mine, and when I heard them speak through their tears and watched their lips move I was certain not only that all of this was worth it but that I also happened to be the luckiest man who ever lived. "I love you..!"
My smile grew, and a few more tears trickled down my face. Then, I shut my own eyes, and the both of us leaned our heads forward some. We rested our foreheads against one another, and for what felt like the first time in my entire life I felt my mind, body, and soul completely relax. The next words were easy, and I felt lucky to even have the chance to say them. "I love you too..."
Our feet slowly touched the ground. We landed gracefully, our bodies still hidden behind the flames of my wings. And we stayed like that for a few moments, like there was no one and nothing else that mattered. Holding one another, keeping our foreheads together. But, then gentle colors shined, and the both of us opened our eyes slowly.
Chara and I gradually lifted our heads, we looked out at the world together. Our eyes widened at the sight before us, and six different colors reflected on our faces. Shining gently, six human souls encircled Chara and I. They floated in the air, bobbing slowly up and down. And Chara and I watched in silent awe as those six souls gradually floated outward, widening their circle... Before they started to float upwards. The sky wasn't burning anymore, I'm not sure it was much of a sky at all. The sky had fallen, and now all that remained above was a galaxy of colors. The six human souls floated up towards that, and I thought they had more than earned it.
Xander was silent as he watched that BRAVE soul float towards him. His tired eyes stared into its gentle orange shine, his lips parted and his pupils trembled when that light paused briefly in front of him. And he lifted one hand, skeptically and hesitantly reached out towards the soul of BRAVERY with fingers that were now covered in filth and blood... That soul floated upwards, and Xander stopped his reaching. He understood now that the orange shine he loved would always be out of his reach. But, as he watched it grow more and more dim during its ascent up into the sea of lights above the destroyed earth he stood upon, Xander Fortune also understood that he was thankful to have ever known such a light. He blinked his tired eyes, and twin streams of tears overflowed down his cheeks, before he forced a sad smile and used his forearm to wipe his tears away.
Me, Chara, Anny, Lexi, and Xander all watched those six souls go. And then... The world was silent. Our eyes slowly drifted between each other, we all looked to whoever we could to try and find an answer for what came next. All we found were dumbfounded, relieved looks. And, gradually, each of of those looks started to produce smiles. Then, those smiles produced laughter. It was a pleasant sound, something peaceful to echo across this devastated land. The glass below reflected the galaxy above, and each of our eyes shined in the gentle starlight. Anny rested his forehead in his hand and shut his eyes, he was shaking his head while he laughed. Xander only managed a scoff and a glance to the side, before Lexi threw her arm over his shoulder and dragged him in with her own laughter. Chara leaned into me while they laughed, and I kept an arm wrapped around them, shaking my own head and laughing right with them.
"... Here." Lexi was the first one to speak after our laughing died down. She stepped forward across the large chunk of mirror we were all floating on, and she extended one hand out to Chara. From her inventory, a large folded up blanket appeared in her grasp. She smiled knowingly and just a little sheepishly. "I, think you might need it more than me."
"Thank you..." Chara responded a little awkwardly, their cheeks tinting red. They reached out from between my wings and took that blanket, careful not to catch it in the flames. I tilted my head back and looked straight up while they unfolded that blanket and wrapped it around themself, and when they were done covering up they glanced up at me. "Those, multiverse screens have shut off by now, right?"
"I sincerely hope so!" I spoke loudly, keeping my eyes on the sky overhead as though I was speaking to CORE!Alphys and not Chara. This made Chara giggle a little, and I felt them take ahold of my right hand. I smiled down at them, before lifting my head and smiling at the other three who had rode into hell and back with me in spite of the ways I had wronged them. They all looked exhausted, but relieved. I thought that was good. I thought that meant that they were all gonna be okay. And if I had another wish, I knew that peace and happiness for them would be what I would want more than anything.
... But, the burning pain in my left arm reminded me that I didn't have another wish. My soul throbbed underneath my chest, my body ached and burned. My ashen wings finally crumbled, a gust of wind carried their smoldering ash from my back. All that remained now were six circular burns, three on either side of my back. I turned my head to watch my feathers scatter, and my brows raised some when I spotted something in their gentle silver shine.
Through the dust of my wings, in the wreckage of my wish, standing upon the mirror floor our might had created, I saw Genesis The Killer. He had one hand in his pocket, and he used the other to give me a two fingered wave. He had a smile on his face, and I thought it looked KIND. Gentle, and more that a little bittersweet. One of my burned feathers blew by him, and when it had passed Genesis was gone.
I tilted my head back after that. I shut my eyes, and I exhaled red mist quietly. Then, I lifted my left hand, and I tilted my head back down to stare into my cracked and charred palm... I squeezed Chara's hand with my right hand. It was okay, my wish was granted. My promise was kept. Chara would make it home safe.
... We won.
