Jamie's mental health hasn't been great, and now she's getting nightmares. In all the years she's been struggling mentally, this has happened a few times, but the only time nightmares happened for weeks was due to fear of her friends being killed. As she sits on the couch, Jamie thinks it's her fear her guardians and best friends are getting tired of helping her because it's more like taking care of her, and the others are likely thinking the same.
Why not? Jamie thinks. My family hates me, so why not my friends now?
Jamie goes back to bed. Being careful not to wake up Drift. It's two in the morning. She hopes to go back to sleep.
Jamie walks down the hall, unaware of a soldier behind her, until she's grabbed and shoved into the wall.
"You're pathetic! How can the Autobots care about you?! I bet they don't care about you! They're just doing their duty as guardians with disgust!" Jamie is shoved onto the floor, "won't be long before they tell you to get lost!"
The soldier kicks Jamie before leaving. Jamie finds out the kick did cause pain and suspects she'll have a bruise, but doesn't think she needs to go to the medbay.
Jamie walks down the hall and, yet again, is tackled. She can't believe who tackled her this time.
"Crosshairs?!"
The mech says nothing as he shoves Jamie onto the floor and sims his gun.
"I've been waiting for Optimus to permit me to do this."
Optimus is letting him...?
Jamie wakes up, terrified. It's four in the morning. At this point, she decides to avoid sleeping. She doesn't want to wake the two mechs up, so she can only lie in bed.
Crosshairs and Drift know how to tell if something is troubling Jamie. They feel a mix of it's good but know it's bad when they can't get Jamie to talk to them.
"What's worse, that we know she won't talk, or it's a nightmare scaring her?" Crosshairs asks, "which we know when someone remembers their nightmare, it's terrifying."
"Why not? Not like she's dealing with a lot already," Drift sighs, "oh, or how there are only two things that terrify her. We're all safe, so..."
Both know Jamie fears everyone will tire of her, and her mental health lately isn't helping. They know there's something else in Jamie's nightmare that's terrifying het. Both mechs look at each other, believing they figured it out, but don't want to say it. They know it's pointless but end up having the same conversation again. Both feel like it's helping much.
The day is what the two mechs hate calling the norm. They can't get Jamie to eat more than a granola bar and coffee. Jamie lost interest in most of what she liked months ago. It's going to be a lazy day.
Because she has been up since four in the morning, Jamie is exhausted and struggling to avoid going to sleep. Her two guardians can tell she's trying not to sleep. They both question if they should tell Rung and Optimus in the morning.
The two go to sleep when Jamie finally falls asleep.
Drift is woken up at two in the morning from Jamie's crying.
He knows Crosshairs is up when a lamp is turned on. Crosshairs moves to the other bed as Drift moves to the edge while holding Jamie awake while crying.
"You're safe," Drift assures her.
Drift looks at Crosshairs, worried, as he tries to get Jamie to calm down. Crosshairs worries part of Jamie's nightmare is him killing her. Even though Drift carries a gun using his holoform rather than a sword, everyone else carries one.
"You're safe," Drift repeats once Jamie is calm and paying attention, "you know how much we care about you. I love you."
"We worry about you," Crosshairs adds.
The two don't think there's much more they can add. The two silently agree to cram on the bed to get Jamie back to sleep. Crosshairs grabs the blanket off his bed while Drift gets Jamie to lie with him. Crosshairs lies on the bed, covering the three of them with the blanket. He's used to facing Jamie's back. The two mechs hold hands under the blanket. This was a way to tell the other that Jamie will be ok. They both are worried about the nightmares she's dealing with. Hoping they'll pass soon.
"That's not good," Optimus sighs, "add we are already uncertain what to do."
"There's nothing to talk about then," Drift comments and leaves Optimus' office.
|"He's right. Unless we can get Jamie to live here, but we've tried that," Crosshairs sighs, "Jamie being an adult means nothing. It's getting worse in her dimension. She's already tried to die once..."
Optimus doesn't stop Crosshairs from leaving his office.
"Damn it; She's doing ok that if Crosshairs and Drift aren't working, even though they don't need to, she'll worry, they'll get in trouble," Prowl comments, "we need to figure out something."
The two mechs don't know what they can plan and worry about Jmaie's guardians.
