Percy nodded off from where he sat at the cafeteria.
"Percy pay attention!"
He rubbed his eyes, exhausted. He hasn't slept a wink last night. The constant waves of thoughts of what transpired yesterday kept him up. Seeing his grandfather for the first time as well as his great uncle, unlocked a series of emotions. He stared at the textbook, squinting at the directions as the words fumbled and jumped.
"Did you even listen to a word I said?" Annabeth snarled at him.
"Of course, you said to pay attention." Percy sighed as they were getting nothing finished this morning.
She let out a loud groan. She started to pull out a curly strand of hair from her ponytail, and tugged it in frustration.
"Alright look, I know I haven't been at my best for a few days now. It's just that a lot has been happening lately, and this project just happens to be on the back burner. Once everything settles down I'm sure we'll be able to finish this."
"We don't have time seaweed brain! We cannot afford to put this project on hold. We need every single minute of cooperation to be able to get an above average grade. There's simply no time for you to put your progress on yourself in front of this project. Put your recovery on the back burner until second semester."
"Are you really telling me to put a grade before my health?" Percy asked in disbelief.
"It isn't just your grade you know. It also reflects my grade, which then will be put on my transcript."
"I swear I can hear both of you bickering from the parking lot." Jason grumbled while he and Thalia joined us at the table.
They as well looked exhausted as they each had dark circles underneath their eyes. They both looked miserable as they sat down.
Annabeth just rolled her eyes and went back to flipping through the textbook.
Grover and Piper joined the table a second later. Both of them scanned all of the expressions and settled down with a grimace.
"What's up with the sour faces?" Grover asked.
Jason and Thalia shared a look before glancing at Percy. Percy sighed in response.
"Family drama? Man your family could have a hit series on the TLC network or whatever channel they do reality tv." Grover muttered between bites of his apple.
"How's the project coming along this morning, Annabeth?" Piper asked.
Annabeth just huffed in response, while continuing to messily scribble down some notes.
"Ok, I see it's going fantastic then. Anyways Jason and I are going to see the new Avengers movie tonight." Piper concluded.
"Sorry Piper, I'm gonna have to cancel it. There's been an unexpected surprise that I have to deal with. It may be awhile before I can do stuff besides school."
Piper glanced at Jason with a questioning look. Jason shrugged it off. Both Thalia and Jason moved their eyes to Percy.
Percy grimaced under their look. He began to suspect that they know of his encounter yesterday with Grandfather and Oceanus.
Before Percy can voice it, the starting bell rung over the intercom system. He sighed while he stood up and grabbed his crutch before he made his way to Economics.
6th Period
Percy sat down with his tray of food. It's chicken patty day. He settled before picking out the pickles on his sandwich.
The table was silent and Grover squirmed underneath it, "So how was everyone's morning?"
"Mostly uneventful, but all of the teachers decided to double the amount of homework we usually get." Piper said.
Thalia snorted, "I'm not doing any of the homework they gave us. Percy why are you taking the pickles out? If you're not going to eat those, can I have them?"
Annabeth gave Thalia an exasperated look, while Percy shrugged and handed her the pickles.
Thalia's phone buzzed and she lazily turned on the screen and read the text.
"Jason we're going to Uncle P's house for a family meeting tonight" Thalia read the text to Jason.
Percy sighed, it probably has to do about yesterday's encounter.
"What's going on over there? You three have been exchanging looks all day?" Annabeth asked.
"Percy had an encounter with our Grandfather and Great Uncle yesterday." Thalia replied still looking at her phone.
"The same one who's been suspected of killing Bianca?" Annabeth questioned.
Percy spat out his water and coughed. His grandfather killed Bianca? Bianca died when she was walking home from school when a car ran her over and crushed her to death. Nico was there and barley dodged the car himself. They never caught the driver.
As Percy was wheezing, Piper asked, "Who's Bianca?"
"Bianca was our cousin, Nico's older sister." Jason explained grimly.
Piper looked as horrified as him. Both Grover and Annabeth had grim faces, but didn't look shocked, like they already knew this information.
What else didn't Percy know? Wait how does Annabeth know that?
"He did what!?!" Percy asked as he recovered from my coughing fit.
Both Thalia and Jason look over at him with a confused expression, "You didn't know that?" Jason asked.
Percy violently shook his head no. Both Thalia and Jason exchanged another glance.
"I thought Poseidon would've told you that. It isn't confirmed that he was indeed the driver, but after the threats he gave before the incident, the evidence is overwhelming." Thalia spoke slowly.
"Threats? What did he have against Bianca, she was only twelve!? If there's evidence why haven't the police do anything?"
"He didn't have anything against Bianca, at least we don't think he did. It mostly involved Hades, and what happened was to get back at him. That is what the threats have hinted at. As for the police, they won't do squat since our Grandfather is powerful and rich." Thalia spat.
Percy stared at the table. This is more complicated and messy than he thought it was.
Poseidon instructed a volunteer to go clean the turtle enclosure. He spotted Nerus walking up to him, and he braced himself for another rescue call.
"Poseidon. My daughter meant to give this to you yesterday, but you kinda of disappeared. She said she found this by the cleaning supplies. It's addressed to you".
Nerus handed him a closed letter envelope. Poseidon frowned at the absurdity of placement of a letter. Who would leave a letter by the cleaning supplies?
Poseidon flipped the envelope over to study the handwriting. Poseidon grew ill as his stomach dropped.
"Woah! Are you okay, Poseidon? You look like you're going to pass out." Delphin ran up preparing to catch his boss of he did topple over.
Poseidon swatted Delphin's hands away and sat down, willing his blood pressure to regulate.
"Is he having a heart attack? Nerus did you just trigger our boss to have a heart attack?"
"He's too young to have a heart attack" Nerus gruffed. "And all I did was hand him a letter."
"I'm not having a heart attack. I just got dizzy for a moment. If you would excuse me." Poseidon stood back up, once he got his bearings.
He strode to his office and closed the door, not caring at the stares coming from both Delphin and Nerus.
Poseidon slunk into his office chair, fiddling with the unopened envelope. It's becoming very real. First was his father's appearance yesterday, now a letter with his father's handwriting.
He hasn't received a letter from his father in over twelve years. None of the letters were pleasant, they were all threatening.
After what happened to his niece he had a sinking suspicion of what's in the letter.
Poseidon let out a breath and opened the envelope. Poseidon carefully unfolded the piece of paper that laid inside the envelope. He examined the letter.
Dear Poseidon,
Formalities aside there's a few issues at hand. Firstly; It's been over a decade since we last got in contact. Secondly; you never followed through with my instructions I kindly gave you twelve years ago. Nothing has changed over those years, and you still fill me with disdain. It's no surprise that you have never pleased me.
You never made it up to me, hence why I'm here. I waited almost thirteen years, yet nothing happened. I suppose you can call me a fool to expect respect from the children I created, nevertheless I didn't think you would shame me on such a level.
I cannot wait any longer, Poseidon. You gave me no choice but to take charge. I gave you twelve years to make it right, but you never did.
I heard your youngest son is in town. I need to see if that rumor was true, and if it is true that might be half of the prize to make it right. Your eldest will complete that prize.
I believe that you need no reminder that I mean business. I have a long track record for completing any task I need to be done. Taking your sons out of this world is my next task, and I will look forward to gaining my retribution after the shame you put me through.
Until I give further notice
Kronos.
Poseidon dropped the letter onto his desk, and let out a deep exhale. He expected the letter to have malice, and after hearing Hades story it shouldn't surprise him to see a death threat. After seeing it from his own eyes and to have it directed at his sons is surreal.
He shakily picked up his phone calling his wife to inform her.
"Hello?"
"I need you to come home, there's something we need to discuss."
"Now? I have a meeting in twenty minutes. What's going on? Does this have to do with what happened yesterday?"
"Yes it does. I got a letter today. Amphitrite, my father mentioned both Triton and Percy in the letter."
"...I'm on my way. Did you tell anyone else?"
"No, not yet. You're the first one I called. I'm sending a text to Triton to tell him to come straight home and not to go to the aquarium.
"Are you still at the aquarium?"
"Yes, but I'm heading home. I just need to transfer the lead to Nerus."
"I'll see you when you get home."
"I'll see you soon. Bye"
"Bye"
Poseidon hunged up and put the letter in his pocket.
He took a deep breath and exited his office. To his surprise both Nerus and Delphin were standing in the exact spot he left them at.
"Nerus, I'm heading home. Can you cover for me for the rest of the day?"
"Sure thing. You don't look well. Do you want me to cover tomorrow as well?"
"I might take you up on that offer. I'll let you know." Poseidon shrugged his jacket on grabbing the aquarium keys and tossing it to Nerus.
Delphin snorted, "I'll purposely lock you out of the building if you show up looking like you are now. Get some rest old man"
Poseidon would've retorted, but he wasn't in a mood to do so. Instead he nodded and left for his car, where he would have an anxious drive home.
Triton stopped outside of his locker shortly after the final class ended.
"Olympion, what's with the sour face?"
Triton closed his eyes, he wasn't in the mood to deal with Luke's antics.
"Castellan, why are you still here? You're usually the first one to leave the building when school ends."
Luke chuckled, "You'll find out later."
Triton was getting tired of that phrase. He opened his locker to grab his car keys he kept stored in there.
"I want your opinion on what prompt I should choose for the essay we were given in English class?
Triton narrowed his eyes, "Why are you asking me?"
"I feel like you might understand the prompt; How family turmoil destroys building blocks of happiness."
Triton's blood ran cold. There was only one member that fit that description and it was very unsettling Luke brought it up after yesterday's events.
He knew that neither Thalia nor Jason would've told Luke as they never mentioned their grandfather to anyone. Percy just found out about him so it wouldn't be him as well.
"I don't know anything about the prompt. You should ask somebody else."
Luke let out a hearty laugh which chilled Triton's blood further.
"I'll see you tomorrow, Olympion."
Triton watched Luke leave wearily, barely taking notice of his phone vibrating. Once Luke was out of site he pulled out his phone to read the text his father sent him.
Don't go to the aquarium after school. Bring Percy home with you as we have some things to discuss.
Triton had a pretty good idea as to what they needed to discuss after yesterday's revelation.
He shut his locker before heading towards the exit. He spotted Percy next to his car waiting.
"What took you so long." Percy grumbled.
Triton ignored him as he didn't quite know what to make out of his brief encounter with Luke. He instead started the car and headed back home.
The car ride was silent, which Triton was grateful for. Most times the car was silent but sometimes Percy will try to talk but Triton never responded to him.
It only took ten minutes before he was pulling into the drive way. He let Percy get out before waiting a few minutes and walking in the house.
His parents were sitting at the kitchen table and his father beckoned him to sit besides Percy at the kitchen table.
Poseidon waited until both of his sons were seated before he went on to his speech.
"As you both know, your grandfather knows who you are and made contact." Poseidon ended his silence.
Percy nodded while Triton looked like he wanted to be anywhere else.
"As I said he is a dangerous man. Percy there are some things I need to tell you, so you can understand how psychotic this man is."
Percy crossed his arms "Do you mean what he did to Bianca?"
Poseidon's back stiffened, Percy wasn't supposed to know about that. Poseidon made sure to not tell Percy of his grandfather's actions.
Poseidon glanced to his wife, and she shook her head confirming that she wasn't the one who spilled the beans. He then transferred his glance to his eldest.
"I didn't tell him." Triton blurted out and held his hands in surrender.
Percy raised his brow, "Thalia told me. She thought that I would have known that by now."
Poseidon let out a quiet hiss. Of course it was Thalia. Poseidon shrugged trying to distance the blame from himself, "Well I kinda of hoped I didn't need to, but after yesterday... There's more you need to know. "
Percy raised his other brow, intrigued. After Poseidon's father purposely ran over Bianca and got away with it, Poseidon swore he wouldn't involve his youngest son with the family conflict. As of yesterday that promise had no other choice but to be broken.
"My father never approved of your mother and I's relationship." Poseidon could feel his wife stiffened at the mention of his ex-fiancé "He's very money oriented, and you know your mother wasn't fortunate when it comes to wealth. I cut contact with him after voicing his displeasures, but he didn't stop."
"It all really started after you were born Percy. He left us threats, saying he was gonna make us bankrupt or make us unemployed. It made your mother and I very uneasy at first, but we ignored it. Then those threats turned into death threats, that is why your mother and I broke it off. We didn't want our relationship to end up killing one of us or you. So we split for your safety."
Amphitrite cleared her throat and shifted in her seat, clearly uncomfortable.
"Everything stopped afterwards. It wasn't until Bianca's death that I was informed about his possible involvement. Hades was getting those threats for being with Maria, and Zeus was also being with his multiple affairs. None of us pieced together that it was happening to each of us, until Bianca's funeral Hades mentioned the threats. We haven't heard anything else from our father, until yesterday."
Poseidon set down the coffee cup and looked intensely at both of his sons. He needed them to understand how dire the situation really is.
"My father doesn't make idle threats. He did try multiple times to make me bankrupt and unemployed, though the attempts failed. He made threats towards Bianca and succeeded."
Poseidon took the letter out of his pocket. He shielded what was written from his sons, but showed them that there was indeed a letter.
Poseidon let out a deep sigh before informing his sons. "Sons. I received this letter on my desk at work. It's a death threat directed at the both of you."
"Your grandfather is a very powerful man. You need to know that no one is gonna help us. This man showed that he is above the law and can commit any crime he pleases. Both of you need to be vigilant at all times. This is very serious."
Percy nodded slowly while Triton wore no expression.
Poseidon nodded back relieved that at least Percy was taking it seriously. He dismissed Percy with a wave of his hand. Percy got up and headed towards his room.
Triton started to stand from his seat.
"Sit back down, Triton." Poseidon commanded.
Triton slunk back down onto the chair, crossing his arms.
"You are aware of how serious this is, right?" Poseidon asked seeking confirmation.
Triton rolled his eyes and nodded, which made Poseidon's eye twitch.
"Well, you don't seem to be taking it seriously. This is the most dire situationally you have ever been in, and you're just sitting there without a care in the world. Hell, even your
half-twit brother has a better understanding than you." Amphitrite grumbled.
Poseidon furrowed his brow unsure if his wife insulted his youngest son or not.
"And what is with your attitude? The past couple weeks you have been running your mouth and acting like a narcissistic asshole-"
"Amphitrite. I think that's enough." Poseidon nudged his wife, surprised at her outburst.
Triton stared at his mother taken aback. He glanced between his mother and father, "Am I excused?"
Amphitrite snorted throwing her arms in the air, "I don't know why I still bother? You're excused."
Triton booked it upstairs before Poseidon could blink.
Amphitrite began to bury her head into her hands and letting a out a groan.
Poseidon took his hand and placed it upon his wife shoulder, slightly rubbing it in comfort. "Everything is going to be alright. I'll make sure nothing will happen to either of them."
Amphitrite sighed in response, the stress present in her tense stature.
Poseidon got up from the table to start tidying up before his siblings showed up.
All of his siblings are coming over tonight along with their family. It's the first time everyone has been together in nine years. The last event where everyone besides Percy was in attendance, ended up in a fight between Hades and Demeter.
Poseidon was not looking forward to the get-together. However, he knew it needed to be done. Anything involving their father needed to be shared with every sibling. None of Kronos's children were liked by Kronos, they were all tiny bugs that Kronos would eat if he could.
Annabeth's Pride - I cannot remember what book it's from, but one of the books states pride is Annabeth's flaw. Which is why Annabeth is putting her pride in her grades before Percy's health.
