Chapter Two-hundred and sixty-eight: The Pocketwatch Sector, part two
The reborn trainers had made their way to Fuchsia City, Kanto, where they went to while in Kanto so that Kenny and Trip could have their next Ultra Class battles for the current season of the World Coronation Series. There was also how they just discovered that Kanto now has its own sector of Team Scorn, the Pocketwatch Sector, which they got is headed by someone identified as Admin Kyubi. Dealing a significant blow to the Pocketwatch Sector was something that the reborn trainers were very much interested in, as being heroes they're always interested in bringing villains such as Team Scorn to heel.
There was also something else about the Pocketwatch Sector that caught the attention of Dawn and the others, that being how the Pocketwatch Sector apparently has a beef of some sort with Project Mew, the organization dedicated to finding the mythical Pokémon Mew so as to learn more about the origins of Pokémon. The first time that the reborn trainers met anyone from Team Scorn's Pocketwatch Sector, they were chasing after a girl named Lyla, who was working as part of Project Mew. Although they themselves are wary of Project Mew, the reborn trainers wouldn't straight up attack any of them.
Dawn, as she thought about this while she and the others walked through Fuchsia City, remembered that she wanted to check up on Froot Loop, her named Mew who she had rotated out of her party a while ago due to needing to deal with a particularly troublesome opponent. Dawn hoped that Professor Oak had kept his word on how he was to keep Froot Loop a secret from others, at least until Dawn and the other reborn trainers learned the real details behind Project Mew. A goal that, Dawn was just now realizing, she actually shared with a sector of Team Scorn, as they wanted to bring Lyla in for questioning.
Speaking of, as the reborn trainers approached the local Pokémon Center, Kenny spoke up, "So what ended up happening with that Lyla chick?"
"I believe that she went back to Project Mew," Trip replied, "No doubt she'll tell them of how Team Scorn threatened her due to being a part of Project Mew. That said, I'm actually surprised to have heard that Project Mew not only does indeed have an increased presence here in Kanto, but they know Team Scorn's gunning for them and yet isn't taking precautions such as leaving Kanto."
"How could they find safety by leaving Kanto?" Mina asked rhetorically, "Team Scorn has branch offices in regions all over the world. Project Mew will go from one danger zone to another."
Dawn wore a look of consideration on her face. "...I think it's more specifically just the sector of Team Scorn that's native to Kanto here who is after Project Mew."
Kenny nodded once in understanding. "Ah yes, the Pocketwatch Sector. I get the feeling that they will be the most interesting sector of Team Scorn that we've dealt with to date, my dudes." Kenny even went into detail about how he prepped to face the Pocketwatch Sector, such as rotating in key Pokémon of his into his party such as Venoct, Hovernyan, and Moximous N." Trip didn't quite understand why Kenny feeling that getting those certain Pokémon into his party will help against the plottings of the Pocketwatch Sector of Team Scorn.
Dawn agreed, feeling that Kenny on occasion had a bag full of cats for a brain and that one could smell the crazy on him. But even so, Kenny had always had a keen mind for things going on, he always pulled through. As such, Dawn felt that she and the others ought to have faith in Kenny knowing what he was doing here. As such, the reborn trainers continued to make their way towards the local Pokémon Center, but stopped short when a male voice that was at least familiar to Dawn and Kenny had called out to the group.
"Ah, you guys are back!" the voice of Koga called out in friendly greeting, making the reborn trainers all turn to face Koga, one of the local gym leaders in Fichsia City, come walking up to them. However, it was noted that Koga was focused mainly on Dawn and Kenny. "What brings you all here to Fuchsia City?" Koga asked, "It certainly has been a while, Dawn and Kenny."
"Oh yeah, how you bez, Koga?" Kenny asked.
With a mildly resigned expression, Koga said, "Production of the documentary detailing the fall of the Pokémon League Admissions Exams has begun, although things had taken a bit of a break almost immediately due to reports of Team Scorn activity here in Kanto. There was even a recent incident near Cerulean City where a group of Team Scorn members tried to kidnap a specific girl."
"We were actually there for that," Trip explained, "We even saved the girl in question from being taken by Team Scorn, although the organization that the girl belongs to is the main reason why Team Scorn wanted to kidnap her in the first place."
Koga arched a curious eyebrow in piqued curiosity. "The girl belongs to an organization that Team Scorn clearly has taken umbridge with. Well now, sounds to me like you kids have quite the story to tell." Dawn nodded in agreement, and figured that it'd be worth it to do some catching up with Koga to see how things are going right now. Dawn also would admit that she was a little curious about what Koga said concerning a documentary about the fall of the Pokémon League Admissions Exams. She felt like that may be an important topic to cover.
Later over at Koga's ninja manor, Koga filled the reborn trainers in on everything concerning the documentary that he had mentioned earlier. "Oh yes," Koga began, "The production of the documentary detailing the fall of the Pokémon Leagues Admissions Exams has at last begun production. I'm being called in to help as I was directly involved with bringing in the persons running the exams and helping to bust up their corruption. Notable other persons would have been brought in as well, but they all are busy with the current season of the World Coronation Series." Koga shot Dawn and Kenny a knowing look. "Including you two."
"Oh yeah, Dawn and I helped with busting up the exams because the persons working them were corrupt and passed exam takers based on money given to them," Kenny remarked. He gently shook his head. "Truly, no greater form of greed and corruption had ever existed. Unless you count villainous organizations that have or have had branch offices in regions all over the world."
Koga nodded in agreement. "Yes, I did hear how you and your friends helped to bring down and expose all of Team Rocket, ending their threat once and for all. And now you kids are helping with bringing the fight to Team Scorn. Speaking of, Team Scorn acting up is also part of why production on the documentary had been delayed as much as it has been, there have been reports that Team Scorn has tried harassing the production crew, as well as steal stuff although what all Team Scorn would have an interest in stealing from the documentary production crew beyond the filming equipment is beyond me."
Dawn perked up a bit at Koga confessing that he's confused as to what Team Scorn would wanna steal from the crew that's producing the documentary on the fall of the Pokémon League Admissions Exams. "Team Scorn is mysterious I will admit, as well as unpredictable."
"You think that Team Scorn would only be interested in stealing the equipment for filming the documentary?" Trip asked.
Nodding once in the affirmative, Koga said, "It'd probably be the most valuable stuff they could find at the site where the documentary is being produced. Team Scorn is bound to have an interest in lining their own pockets."
That much Dawn cannot deny; Team Scorn has shown interest in money in the past. But at the same time, they also showed that they would prioritize goals that would net lesser overall income. In fact, the first time Dawn ever encountered Team Scorn, they had some men harass the Slowpokes in Azalea Town, Johto, to distract the Slowpoke revering locals so as to grant more cover for another group to steal as many apricorn Pokéballs as possible. By Lance's math, it would take thousands of those special balls to equal the value that just one Slowpoke tail would have reeled in. Granted, Team Scorn managed to steal away with some Slowpoke tails anyway, but that isn't the point being made here.
Dawn couldn't help but feel that Team Scorn was after something beyond filming equipment here, something else that might be of value to those criminals. But what said thing could be was eluding Dawn as she wracked her brain trying to figure out what all is going on here. Looking to Koga, Dawn asked, "Would you be able to tell us how far production is coming along on the documentary?"
"Production is taking a break as the director wants to focus on shooting a scene where my daughter Janine re-enacts her part in the sting operation that brought down the exams proctors," Koga explained, "However the scene can't be filmed because Janine's undercover role that's being re-enacted there involved Janine's disguise that consisted of a get-up to make her look stereotypically nerdy and a fat suit to make her appear obese. The filming crew actually forgot to get a fat suit."
"A fat suit was used in helping to bring the corrupt exam proctors to justice?" Trip asked, sounding confused.
"Oh yeah," Kenny said, "Janine donned a fat suit so she wouldn't be recognized, as well as her using the alias Plumpany Fluffythighs to help sell the image of her being a fatass, as she went undercover into the heart of the exam proctor's corruption. She even wore a pin or a brooch or something along those lines which had a hidden camera in it so we could see and hear what all was going on. Once we saw enough, we ran in and wrangled up everyone."
Turning to look at Kenny, Trip with a dry expression remarked in a likewise tone, "...You're the one who came up with the ridiculous alias that Janine had used when she went undercover, didn't you?"
"Actually, it's fortuitous that Kenny remembers as much as he had," Koga said, "The producers wanted to be as historically accurate as possible and we all forgot the alias Kenny came up with for Janine to use while she went undercover to help with rooting out the corruption of the exam proctors." Shrugging, koga went on, "A load of good that'll do for us right now though, as in addition to lacking a fat suit, we also lack the make-up and other stuff needed for Janine to dress back up in her old get up from the sting operation."
Standing up, Kenny aid, "Well the producers for the documentary are in luck, for Kenny Harris Studios has everything they need, and then some! We just need some goods ships from the studio warehouse in Alola to here in Kanto and we'll be good to go!"
"Yeah, I've been meaning to ask that Kenny," Trip began, "Where in blazes do you store everything used for the production of your movies? Like the costumes, spare things of make up, various props, the fat suit that made multiple people think Dawn's weight was going up and down for real, extra equipment for filming. Where over in Alola did you find to store all of that stuff at?"
"In a shed at the trainer school on Melemele Island," Kenny said, "The one with the sign that said that the shed's haunted by the ghost of a lunch lady who will curse anyone who enters it. It's helped to keep people from getting in and messing with the movie magic."
Dawn gave Kenny a dry look comparable to the one Trip gave to Kenny earlier. "...You're the one who started that rumor, aren't you." Dawn spoke less like she was asking a question and more like she was making a statement she was fully confident in.
Shrugging, Kenny replied, "In my defense, I had nowhere else to store what all I use to make my movies."
"The rumor started had spawned countless tall tales," Dawn began, "One of which made Lillie pee herself out of fright the first time she heard it."
"Look, do you wanna help with the production of the documentary or not?" Kenny replied.
Letting out a huff, Dawn said, "Fine. But you need to write and send an apology letter to Lillie."
"I make no promises," Kenny replied.
...
After a few moments that saw Kenny phone on over to Melemele Island in the Alola region, he turned to face everyone else. "Alright, I got some folks sending the goods here to Fuchsia City," Kenny said, "Granted, it'll take a bit for everything I had asked for to get here, but it'll come."
"Well that ought to help production for the documentary on the downfall of the Pokémon League Admissions Exams," Koga remarked.
Turning to look at Koga, Dawn said, "Something else that may help is getting additional security."
The look on Koga's face became one of grim consideration. "...Ah yes, the fact that Team Scorn has taken to harassing the production crew."
"What I would like to know is why Team Scorn harassing the crew that's producing a documentary on the downfall of the Pokémon League Admissions Exams here in the Kanto region," Trip said, "I mean, what all reason do they have? Do they feel the content of the documentary will mock them in some fashion?"
Gently shaking her head, Mina said, "All that we were able to come up with is that Team Scorn might, might mind you, be interested in stealing the cameras and other equipment for filming the documentary. And even then that guess is really just taking a stab in the dark. It could be something completely different that we in no way are able to predict."
Kenny nodded in agreement. "Team Scorn's brain is a bag full of cat Pokémon. You can smell the crazy on them." There was at least some good news that Koga had to bring to the production crew, that being how Kenny Harris Studios was lending them some of the stuff they needed to help speed up production of the documentary that they were making. Dawn when she asked Kenny if he was cool with loaning out his only fat suit learn that he actually had three each for girls and boys. "They came as a set when I tried ordering just one," Kenny explained.
A short while later, Koga led the reborn trainers over to where the documentary of the downfall of the Pokémon League Admissions Exams was taking place. There, the reborn trainers met Cleavon Schpielbunk, the director who was filming the documentary. The reborn trainers were vaguely familiar with him due to his appearance in an early Kanto episode of the anime in their previous life. "This, children," Koga said as he gestured to Cleavon, "Is the famous film producer Cleavon Schpielbunk. He's the man leading production on the documentary of the downfall of the Pokémon League Admissions Exams."
"And I'm glad to have the backing of persons as talented as you kids," Cleavon said to the reborn trainers, "The loaned aid from Kenny Harris Studios aside, it's rather reassuring to have powerful trainers around to help keep things safer for production."
Dawn nodded once in understanding to Cleavon. "Yeah, we got it that production efforts here have been harassed by Team Scorn. Is there anything that you can give us about Team Scorn's efforts against you so far?"
Cleavon, with a troubled look on his face, explained, "Nothing beyond a few skirmishes. The latest one has me worried however, given that Team Scorn that time said that they'll be back and in greater numbers."
Kenny, with a look of consideration on his face as his gaze was cast downward to the ground, held a hand to his chin. "...Just like Sand People," Kenny muttered to himself, too quietly to be heard by others.
Gesturing to Cleavon, Trip asked, "Has Team Scorn tried stealing anything in any of the times they tried harassing the production crew here?"
To the surprise of the reborn trainers, Cleavon gently shook his head in the negative. "Actually, no," Cleavon said, "Nothing of consequence like a filming camera, at least. There was one incident where some men from Team Scorn stole food off of a table set up with food for the cast and crew, but that's it."
"Sounds more like an act of opportunity rather than the real deal," Koga mused, "There's no way their true goal lays with stealing food from that table like you said." Gesturing to Cleavon, Koga asked, "Can you think of anything else that might give Team Scorn proper motivation for raiding and attacking the documentary's production efforts here?"
Cleavon, holding a hand to his chin as he looked to be considering things, eventually said, "...Oh wait! Saffron City gym leader Sabrina is going to be acting in the documentary, playing the role of one of the exam managers who's taken down and arrested for corruption. Her acting career has really taken off."
"Hey, I have an Ultra Class battle in the current season of the World coronation Series coming up against Sabrina," Trip noted.
Cleavon nodded once in acknowledgement. To Koga and the others, Cleavon went on, "Maybe Team Scorn thinks they can kidnap a rising star in the acting world to hold for ransom."
Koga scowled bitterly. "Figures that Team Scorn would do whatever it took to line their pockets. They must be stopped."
"Where is Sabrina now?" Dawn asked, "Unless you don't know."
"Actually I do know," Cleavon replied, "She's in Saffron City right now. She was getting ready to come out here to begin work on her part of the documentary, but I got it she had to divert for a bit because she's in the current season of the World Coronation Series and she's got a scheduled battle coming up." Turning to look right at Trip, Cleavon went on, "You saying that you're going to be battling Sabrina reminded me that she's in the World Coronation Series. I hope you do well against Sabrina."
"Our battle's not for two more days," Trip said, "That gives us time to try and deal with Team Scorn harassing you gu-"
"AHHHHH! IT'S TEAM SCORN! THEY'RE BACK!"
"EVERYONE HOLD IT!"
Trip was cut off when he and everyone else heard some angry, demanding shouting coming from a ways away. That, and a panicked shout just confirmed that Team Scorn had come back to harass production of the documentary. Knowing that the villains had to be stopped from... whatever it was that they were planning to do, Dawn and the others ran right over in the direction of where all of the shouting was coming from.
...
When the reborn trainers, plus Koga and Cleavon, arrived on the scene, they were surprised to see the number of Team Scorn members that there were. It was Kenny who first spotted a uniquely dressed member of Team Scorn; he was fair skinned, had brownish hair that reached the base of his neck, and he wore a yellow coat with dark blue highlights that reached his knees but the sleeves were rolled up to his elbows, a yellow shirt with dark blue highlights under that, dark blue pants, yellow socks, and dark blue shoes with yellow highlights. The Team Scorn insignia, a dark blue heater shield with a yellow Team Scorn 'S', was on the shirt over his chest area.
The reborn trainers zeroed in on the uniquely dressed Team Scorn member, figuring him to be either an Officer or an Admin's Assistant. "You who threatens to disrupt the balance of cringe and moxie!" Kenny declared as he pointed at the uniquely dressed member of Team Scorn, "Who are you?"
The uniquely dressed member of Team Scorn was about to speak, but a female Team Scorn grunt came running up to stand next to him. She had brownish hair in something of a bob cut, and she wore glasses. Aside from that, she was dressed standard as all female Team Scorn grunts. "Hey, you would-be heroes show my Captain a lot of disrespect!" the female grunt admonished.
"Considering he's showing disrespect by attacking the production of my documentary," Cleavon began, "I figured it was owed to give to him what he's giving out."
"How dare you!" the female grunt scowled, "I should-"
"Inaho, enough," the uniquely dressed Team Scorn member said. To the heroes, the uniquely dressed Team Scorn member said, "Sorry, but my Captain's Assistant here is a bit gung-ho on defending my honor, so to speak." Gesturing to himself, the uniquely dressed member of Team Scorn said, "The name's Meyer, and I'm the Third Captain of Team Scorn's Pocketwatch Sector." Gesturing to the now identified Inaho, the now identified Meyer went on, "And as you already got it, this here is Inaho, my Captain's Assistant."
'You guys are setting off a great disturbance in the cringe," Kenny said, "You and your minions here must be defeated."
As Meyer and Inaho got ready to square off with the heroes, Dawn as she looked around said, "Kenny, can you and one other person help keep the Captain and his Captain's Assistant busy? The others and I ought to deal with all of the rank and file here."
"I'll back Kenny on this," Mina declared as she moved to stand with Kenny while Dawn led Trip, Koga, and Cleavon in dealing with the Team Scorn grunts. "Well now," Mina said, "We ought to get this show on the road! Go, Jolteon!" Coming out to battle was Mina's shiny Jolteon.
"Okay, Hovernyan!" Kenny called out as he sent in his named male Meowstic, "Let's make it cringe!"
"Go, Buneary!" Inaho said as she sent in a Buneary.
"Go, Politoed!" Meyer called out as he sent in a Politoed.
Kenny's eyes narrowed as he saw Meyer's Politoed. "...Again, I sense a disturbance in the cringe." Shaking his head, Kenny pointed forward while crying out, "Hovernyan, use Power Up Punch on Buneary!"
"Jolteon, use Thunderbolt on Politoed!" Mina ordered.
"Buneary, use Pound on Jolteon!" Inaho commanded.
"Politoed, use Mind Reader on Meowstic!" Meyer called out.
Jolteon was by far the fastest, and its conjured Thunderbolt struck and zapped Meyer's Politoed hard as it tried taking aim at Hovernyan. As Politoed fell over defeated, Hovernyan ran in and slugged Buneary hard enough to knock it out, also Hovernyan's attack was boosted. Meyer and Inaho were forced to recall Politoed and Buneary, and in their place Inaho sent out a Bunnelby and Meyer sent out a Glaceon.
"...Politoed and Glaceon..." Kenny said, his narrowing gaze and tone denoting great suspicion, "Methinks you're trying to copy and paste my cringe." Gesturing forward, Kenny called out, "Hovernyan, use Power Up Punch on Bunnelby!"
"Jolteon, use Tunderbolt on Glaceon!' Mina ordered.
"Bunnelby, use Dig on Jolteon!" Inaho commanded.
"Glaceon, use Ice Beam on Jolteon!" Meyer cried out.
Jolteon was again the fastest, and its Thunderbolt struck Glaceon hard. However, Glaceon was able to endure. As for Hovernyan, he rushed in and slugged Bunnelby with a devastating Power Up Punch, knocking Bunnelby out and boosting his attack by another stage. Glaceon, who barely hung in after having gotten struck by Jolteon's Thunderbolt, fired an Ice Beam that struck Jolteon and froze it.
Inaho recalled her fainted Bunnelby, scowling, "I'm out of Pokémon who can fight."
"Then it's on me, I suppose!" Meyer said, "Glaceon, use Ice Beam on Jolteon!"
"Jolteon return!" Mina said as she swapped her Pokémon around, "Go, Flareon!" Coming out in place of the shiny Jolteon was Mina's shiny Flareon.
"Hovernyan, use Power Up Punch on Glaceon!" Kenny commanded. The named male Meowstic rush in and slugged the already winded Glaceon in the face, knocking it out and boosting his attack a third time. "Ah ha ha!" Kenny laughed, "Good luck trying to overcome the power of moxie and cringe!"
Recalling his fanited Glaceon, Meyer scowled, "I still have one lest, but it'll be tough as it's now essentially a two on one affair. Made all the more difficult as I'm looking down at a Flareon. Go, Scizor!" Meyer's third Pokémon turned out to be a Scizor who, to the surprise of Kenny and Mina, is a shiny.
"Oi!" Kenny exclaimed, "First it's a Politoed, then it's a Glaceon, and now it's a shiny Scizor! You really ARE trying to capture for yourself some of the cringe that Cell, Kermit, and Shallot bring to the table! I won't stand for cringe thieves!" Pointing forward, Kenny called out, "Hovernyan, use Power Up Punch on Scizor!"
"Flareon, use Fire Fang on Scizor!" Mina ordered.
"Scizor, use Night Slash on Flareon!" Meyer commanded.
Surprisingly, it was Hovernyan who was the quickest. Hovernyan also saw that the enemy Scizor is a shiny and, remembering his allied shiny Scizor Cell, Hovernyan had a pretty good idea on where to aim his Power Up Punch. With clear knowing intent in his eyes, the named male Meowstic flew in and threw his Power Up Punch, with as much might as he could muster, right up into the abdomen of the enemy shiny Scizor, making it stop short and go bug-eyed from shocked and sudden pain. It stumbled backwards as it held its metal pincer claws over its struck abdomen.
"Did your Meowstic intentionally aim to strike my Scizor in the abdomen?!" Meyer cried out in annoyed outrage.
Shrugging, Kenny said, "Hovernyan must have recalled how Cell has a tendency to take strikes to the shmeat all the time and figured that using such tactics on your Scizor would help out." Help out it did, as Hovernyan's dirty fighting gave Mina's Flareon all the cover it needed to rush in and bite down hard on Meyer's Scizor with Fire Fang, knocking it out and securing victory for Kenny and Mina.
After Meyer's shiny Scizor was defeated, Meyer recalled it as he scoffed in annoyed bitterness. "I had no idea that your Pokémon have no qualms with fighting dirty, that you have no qualms with them doing so."
"Hey, you guys are legit straight up criminals," Kenny shot back, "And you attacked the set of production behind the documentary here! Who are you to question how we fend you guys off when you all are clearly the party that's in the wrong here?"
Meyer was about to shoot back at Kenny, but got cut off when he and Inaho were approached by a male Scorn grunt. "Captain Meyer, sir!" the grunt said, "We've secured the goal!"
Turning to look at the grunt, Meyer asked, "You got a hold of one of them?"
"We found the box all of them were being kept in!" the grunt said, "We just took the box and everything in it!"
Turning to look at Kenny, Meyer said, "Well this had been at least somewhat of an interesting diversion, but we did accomplish the goal we have for coming here, so this is where we shall take our leave and go." At Meyer's call, all of the Team Scorn members stopped fighting, pulled out and used smoke grenades, and used them to cover their escape. When the smoke was blown away, the heroes saw it that all of Team Scorn had managed to give them all the slip. No-one was seriously hurt and everyone (human and Pokémon alike) was accounted for, so that was a blessing.
But the question remained. What was Team Scorn's goal here?
After everything was checked, it was Cleavon who discovered that the box that contained the badges that were taken from the Pokémon League Admissions Exams, the very same badges that were handed out to those who passed the exams or rather paid for it, was stolen. The badges were an important prop for the movie, so for the box containing them to be stolen was a serious blow. Cleavon had a few stray Pokémon League Admissions Exam badges in a small keepsake box in his trailer, and from those prop badges modeled after them could be made.
But they wouldn't be anywhere near as genuine looking as the real deal. "And getting enough prop badges made to fill a box the size that was being used will take us a while," Cleavon said, "More than it'll take the people helping to manage Kenny Harris Studios to send us the fat suit that Janine needs for her part in the documentary. Obviously Team Scorn stole those badges to set production back on the documentary."
'...Actually," Dawn began, "Knowing Team Scorn, they most likely didn't know their efforts will set back the documentary's production, or they did know but setting back the documentary's production isn't why they had acted."
"There's also how that Team Scorn Captain that Mina and I fought was trying to copy and paste a bit of the cringe swagger that I boast," Kenny said, "He had a Politoed, a Glaceon, and a shiny Scizor. That's Kermit, Shallot, and Cell right there! The shiny Scizor was even vulnerable to shots to the shmeat!" Fuming, Kenny said, "It is very much clear to me that the Pocketwatch Sector of Team Scorn will be our most cunning enemy yet."
Cleavon let out a troubled, resigned sigh. "I can't think of a way for things here to get any worse for us." About a second after Cleavon said that, a jeep pulled up to the sight of the documentary's production. surprisingly enough, the person getting out was a representative of the World Coronation Series. Said person made his way right up to the heroes, a look of grim determination on his face.
Clearing his throat first, the WCS (World coronation Series) representative then said, "I'm looking for Trip Berlitz-Barley."
Holding up a hand, Trip said, "That would be me. Why do you ask?"
The WCS representative let out a troubled sigh. "This is concerning your upcoming Ultra Class battle against Saffron City gym leader Sabrina. The match has been canceled, and your rank has gone up slightly as if you had won normally."
Rather than be happy to have gotten an automatic win, Trip was suspicious. "...What happened? Is Sabrina alright?"
"Obviously you and your similarly heroic friends get so caught up in fending off Team Scorn efforts that you aren't able to immediately learn of other Team Scorn efforts elsewhere," the WCS representative said, his somber tone carrying a strong hint of dryness.
...
To the shock of the reborn trainers, they learned after getting back from Cleavon's documentary producing set that Sabrina had been murdered.
And it wasn't just Sabrina who is now a cadaver in a morgue; every notable person the reborn trainers were familiar with who had notable psychic powers was now dead, in a multi-region effort by Team Scorn to eliminate persons with psychic abilities. The instant Dawn got it that all of those psychics were eighty-sixed by the efforts of Team Scorn, she immediately got an idea on why Team Scorn would carry those acts of ultimate evil out. "Team Scorn wants to prevent persons with psychic powers from finding out their secrets via those very same psychic powers," Dawn said, her tone grim.
"As much as I don't approve of how many of those psychics were gym leaders," Kenny began, "And could use their psychic powers to get an edge on challengers especially as said challengers often had no way of defending against it, straight up murdering psychics goes too far." Kenny gently shook his head. "And to think that the copycat cringe of that Captain Meyer dick-waffle was evil."
"So what do we do now?" Mina asked.
Trip took his phone out to check something. "...Kenny's Ultra Class showdown with Bruno of the elite four of the Indigo League is in two days. I say we divert to go where the battle will take place and give Kenny time to prep."
Pumping a fist up into the air, Kenny cheered, "I shall bring a storm of true cringe the like of which the world has never seen!" Despite the wind being knocked out of their sails somewhat, the heroes still continued onward in their adventure in the Kanto region. There was still loads to do, including fighting off Team Scorn's evil which had just taken an even greater leap to the darkest depths it could sink to.
END, CHAPTER TWO-HUNDRED AND SIXTY-EIGHT
Author's notes;
This chapter continues the struggle against the Pocketwatch Sector, which is the sector of Team Scorn native to the Kanto region. Third Captain Meyer of the Pocketwatch Sector leads a raid on Cleavon's site he's producing a documentary at and steals a bunch of Pokémon League Admission Exams badges. To make matters worse, the heroes soon learn that Sabrina, tha Saffron City gym leader, is murdered in an act carried out by Team Scorn efforts, also learning of other efforts against other humans with psychic powers. Dawn realizes that Team Scorn wants to keep their secrets AS secrets, which they can't very well do if Psychics use their powers to learn of them.
Anyway, the next chapter will continue the struggle against the Pocketwatch Sector, so until then take care.
