A.N: Before we begin the story, I have a few important things I want to let you all know. First and probably most importantly, this will be a pretty AU-heavy story. And while the majority of the changes to canon will happen after the events of volume 1. I did make a significant change to the beginning of the show. That change is that everyone from Beacon's "freshman" class has been aged up a year. Except for Ruby, who will be 17 when she gets accepted into Beacon, everyone else is 18. The reason I did this is because Beacon is literally just Huntsman/Huntress University. And it just makes a lot more sense for them to be 18 instead of 17. It is also slightly more believable that a Headmaster would allow a 17-year-old turning 18 during their first semester to join a University setting. Than allowing a 15/16-year-old in.
The second and less important thing is that this will be an OC x harem fanfic. And yes, I know this type of fanfic has a particularly infamous reputation. This is why I wanted to clarify that the harem will not be the story's focus. I will also do my absolute best to keep the RWBY characters' personalities as accurate to canon as possible. And keep the few OC characters from feeling shoehorned in.
So that's it for the authors' note. All that is left to say is thanks for reading, and enjoy.
Chapter 1: Skyfall
Ruby Rose
January 17, Beacon Academy
"Cookies, why? I thought you were my friends." Ruby mumbled into her pillow. Her black red-tipped hair was an absolute mess that showed how long she had been tossing and turning throughout the night. Just a few hours ago, eating two full boxes of chocolate chip cookies seemed like a fantastic idea. Each bite of the tasty treat had been a reminder that she had earned them, that they were her reward for finishing all her homework before the weekend started. Which meant she would have more time to plan for her team's super-secret mission to investigate Roman and the White Fang. But now, as the clock on the wall ticked to 3:00 A.M., well, she thought it was signaling 3:00. She could never really tell the time with Weiss's stupid, "fancy," numberless clock. Seriously, why have a clock if you had to guess the time on it anyway!
Wait, what was she thinking about again? Oh, right, it was now probably 3 O'clock at night. And her stomach had refused to give her a wink of sleep as it grumbled out its displeasure at her past actions. To make matters worse, her arsenal of sleeping tricks: trying multiple sleeping positions, counting Zwei's, and closing her eyes really, really, really tight. Had been all used up, with none of them able to get her any closer to precious sleep. With no other options left, Ruby resigned herself to a sleepless night. One that wouldn't be so bad if she at least had her scroll with her! Unfortunately, through no fault of her own, her scroll's battery had died out. And she had left it charging on the nightstand, right next to Weiss's bed.
Which meant she had one of two choices. She could either go on throughout the night, bored out of her mind, and hope that sleep would eventually come. Or she could try to sneak her way down her bunk to grab her scroll. Potentially wake Weiss up in the process, and end up on the receiving end of one of her best friends' rants. Which would wake the rest of the team up, and then everyone would be angry.
"Angry Weiss or my scroll. Angry Weiss or my scroll. Angry Weiss or my scroll, oh this shouldn't be so hard." Ruby whispered her frustrations into her pillow as she weighed her options mentally.
She weighed the pros and cons, and while it seemed that the cons far outweighed the pros. Boredom won in the end.
"Ok, I can do this. I can be sneaky." She whispered to herself, feeling like she needed a pep talk for what felt like a mission far more impossible than the one they planned on going on.
Ever so slowly, Ruby pushed her blankets off her body. Then just as slowly began to inch her way to the edge of the bed. Flinching every time her bed creaked or shifted with her movement. Then came the hard part, climbing off without disturbing Weiss's sleep.
'Steady, steady, and….success!' Ruby mentally congratulated herself as her feet touched the floor. Sure, her bed had moved and squeaked, and she had kicked Weiss's legs at least twice while climbing down. But none of her friends had been woken up by the noise, which meant it was still a successful mission in her mind. So with a high sense of accomplishment and a smug little smile on her lips. Ruby grabbed her now mostly charged scroll from the nightstand.
With her "mission" complete, Ruby was about to climb back to her bed when something caught her eye. Or rather the lack of someone, as instead of seeing her recently discovered Faunus friend peacefully sleeping on her bed. Ruby watched as a bedsheet cocoon trembled in her place.
In the fiveish months that Ruby had known Blake. The older black-haired girl had been the definition of cool. Well, except when she accidentally blurted out that she was a Faunus and ex-White Fang member. But apart from that incident, Blake had been as cool as a cucumber. So seeing her hide underneath a protective cocoon of blankets was troubling.
Was Blake having a particularly nasty nightmare? Had she gotten sick? Maybe she had gotten a stomach ache as bad as her own? Whatever the case was, as team leader, Ruby saw it as her duty to check up on her.
Tip-toeing her way across the room to the side of Blake's bed. Ruby slowly placed a hand on the lump of blankets covering her friend.
"Blake, are you ok?" Ruby whispered to no response. "Blake, what's wrong?" She tried again, now shaking her friend a little harder. This time Ruby heard a soft groan of pain from within the sheets. Sending Ruby into full panic mode as she began pulling back the blanket cocoon to get to her friend.
Ruby's eyes widened as she pulled the last sheet off and saw her friend's state. Blake's cute cat ears were pointing straight up and twitching, her irises dilated, a thick layer of sweat covered her body, and her chest was heaving rapidly as she hyperventilated. All in all, Blake looked like she was in the middle of an intense panic attack.
"Ruby?" Blake weakly groaned out as her eyes focused on Ruby's blurry outline.
"I'm right here, Blake.." Ruby whispered back as she gently grasped one of Blake's shaky hands. In a simple act of comfort. "Just tell me what's happening to you so I can help you." Ruby pleaded, her silver eyes filled with concern for her friend.
"I-I don't know, but something's wrong." Blake stammered out, now shaking harder than before.
"Well, of course, something's wrong with you. You look worse than vomit boy did during initiation."
"No, you don't understand. Something wrong is going on outside." Blake groaned out with a tremble of desperation in her voice. That Ruby hadn't heard since that awful argument that almost broke their team apart.
It was then that Ruby noticed that Blake had not been looking at her. Her friends glowing golden eyes had been staring past her unblinkingly at their room's window as if her eyes could see past the stitched-up curtains. And witness the horrors she felt were happening outside their room's hypothetical safety.
As Ruby stared at the curtain, her heart began pounding against her chest as she once again had to make a difficult choice. She wasn't entirely sure if she believed Blake's claim or not. After all, if the school was going through some sort of crisis, then some kind of alarm would be going off.
On the other hand, Ruby wanted to believe her friend, and thanks to Professor Oobleck's classes. She did know that Faunus have a sixth sense of sorts for danger. Ultimately, that knowledge and trust in her friend helped decide Ruby's following action. She needed to check out what was behind that curtain. Because, in the end, it didn't matter what she believed. As the team leader, it was her responsibility to look after them. Be it by finding out that they did, in fact, need to prepare for a natural disaster. Or by calming down one of her friends after an awful sleep terror.
Letting go of Blake's hand, Ruby began to move towards the window. Or at least she tried to, but before she could take a step, she was stopped by Blake grabbing her wrist. The two looked at each other, silver eyes meeting gold, as they reached a mutual understanding in mere seconds without saying a single word. If Blake wanted to face her fear head-on, Ruby wasn't going to stop her. Plus, there was a sense of comfort in knowing that she wouldn't be doing this alone.
Because while it felt a little silly how tense the situation had become. A part of her was scared that they would open up the curtain and see the beginning of a stampede of Grimm attacking the school or the start of a tornado, tsunami, or any other force of nature with the potential to demolish the school.
The walk to the window felt longer than the five steps it took to actually get to it. And even longer still for one of them to work up the courage to move the curtains apart. Surprisingly it was Blake that ended up taking hold of the stitched-up curtains. Her knuckles turned white with how hard she was gripping them.
"It's probably nothing, right? I mean, nothing we can't handle." Ruby whispered, trying to shine some positivity on the situation. It did little good, as the words sounded fake even to herself. Still, Blake gave a slight nod of affirmation. Ruby wasn't sure if Blake did that to try to comfort her or herself.
But in the end, it didn't matter. No amount of comfort would have been able to prepare the two for what they saw once Blake pulled the curtains apart. Ruby's thoughts about not waking up Weiss or Yang almost literally flew out the window. As both Blake and herself let out ear-splitting screams that jolted their entire dorm building awake.
The two huntresses-in-training screams covered up the loud thuds that Yang and Weiss's bodies made as they unceremoniously fell to the floor. With her ears still ringing, Weiss was the first one to regain her composure.
As she quickly fought her way out of the tangled mess of blankets she had pulled down with her and got back on her feet in indignant fury. "Ruby! I thought we agreed on no more absurd wake-up calls after the "whistle" incident! The contract you signed clearly states that-" Weiss's rant stopped short (not that either Ruby or Blake were paying any attention to it.) as her tired eyes finally focused enough to notice that their entire bedroom was now bathed in an ethereal golden-orange glow. As the heiress's icy blue eyes followed the light, her jaw slacked in a silent scream.
"Thank Oum. It is way too early for a lecture. I don't know what you girls did to stop the Ice Queens rant. But make sure you write it down for next time." Yang groaned out. She would have been more than content to fall back asleep on the floor. But when there was no huff of annoyance from the heiress or any type of reaction from Ruby or Blake in response to her joke. Yang got curious.
"Alright, what's going on with you three? And who turned on the lights? Seriously, it's too early for this." Yang's voice slowly died down once she got up from the floor. And saw all three of her teammates standing like statues before their window. Their faces were terror-stricken. The strange glow she had initially mistaken for their room lights reflected off their pale faces. "Ok, you have officially freaked me out. What are you all looking a-" Yang's words died in her throat the moment she looked outside.
Horrifying, catastrophic, dreadful, and terrible were the words that came to the minds of the four huntresses-in-training as they stared up at the night sky and witnessed the ethereal darkness of space, crack and crumble. To give way to a mesmerizing orange and yellow void that coated not just Beacon but Vale and beyond in the otherworldly orange glow that lit up their dorm room. The void grew larger as more spiderweb-like cracks spread across the sky before breaking into dark shards and seemingly disintegrating.
Unsure of what to do or what to say. Team RWBY could do nothing else but watch in horror.
"What the Hell is that!" That is until Yang finally found her voice and asked the question they were all thinking about but had no answer to.

Ozpin
Ozpin had seen many a thing throughout his long life. Some wondrous, others appalling. But as he looked at the void tearing apart Remnant's sky, he wasn't sure on what side of the metaphorical line it fell. Several scenarios began to race through his mind about why this was happening. His first thought was that this was the God of Lights doing. The glow that the void leaked was similar to the one he remembered radiating off of the deity. So the rift could be his way of coming back to Remnant.
"Ozpin."
But if that was the case, why was he coming back now? Had he come to offer help, and if he did, why now after all this time? Was he doing so poorly in his quest to stop Salem's plans that the deity felt it necessary to step in?
"Ozpin."
Then again, a more pessimistic but equally possible reason could be that both brothers have had enough of his and Salem's seemingly endless war game. And they were coming back to put a permanent stop to it, to wipe the slate clean and retry their experiment with new creations.
"Ozpin!"
It was also possible that Salem could be responsible. As he thought more about the situation, this scenario had become the most likely of the three. Seeing as the relics had not been gathered and the Gods couldn't be the ones doing this. There was also the fact that he wasn't sure what she was capable of anymore. And he had learned the hard way that he should never underestimate her. The grip on his cane tightened as memories of past failure rushed to his mind.
"For Oum's sake, Ozpin, snap out of it! And answer the damn question! Is this her doing?"
He was broken out of his trance before his thoughts traveled to darker memories. Ozpin turned to his most loyal friend—a deep frown formed on his face as he took in just how worried she looked. "I can't say for sure, but I wouldn't put it past her. Salem has pulled some terrifying tricks before. We should get in contact with Ironwood and Qrow. Just-"
Before Ozping could finish, a shrill sizzling hissing brought his and Glynda's attention back to the broken sky. Just in time to see the first of many meteors break through Remnant's atmosphere.
Ozpin cursed himself as he watched what remained of that first meteor streak over Vale. He should have noticed it sooner. The void had appeared right behind the moon. He should have known that if something were coming out of it, the force would launch the broken pieces toward Remnant. This development sealed it for him. He wasn't sure how she had managed it, but this had to be an attack by Salem.
A genuinely devastating one at that, as any meteor large enough, would cause catastrophic damage if it hit anywhere near a city or settlement. And as if that wasn't bad enough, this cataclysmic event would cause a mass panic. That will set into motion a stampede of Grimm. The size of which had not been seen since before the kingdoms were established.
"Glynda, make an announcement to get all staff members and students ready to deploy to the wall. Once you do, try and get in contact with Qrow. I'll call Ironwood and see if he has any troops he can send us. If we're lucky, Atlas won't be affected by this. And he can send support to any location that needs it."
"All students, including first years?" Glynda asked, the worry on her face telling him what she really wanted to say. Silently pleading with him not to make her send first years to a situation they were absolutely not ready for.
The grip Ozpin had on the handle of his cane tightened even more. He had made many mistakes throughout his life, but sending unprepared students to their deaths would not be one of them. "Third and fourth years will go with the staff to the wall. Second and first-year students will deploy to the city. Hopefully, their presence there will help calm down civilians. "
The response appeased Glynda, as she nodded in agreement. "Right, we shouldn't waste any more time then. I'll make the announcement. Let me know what Ironwood says."
"I will." And with that response, Glynda and Ozpin set out to start gathering their forces. For an invasion, neither of them knew was not coming.

Salem
Evernight Castle
Crimson eyes glared defiantly at the rift spitting fire across Remnant. She stared into the void as if challenging it to stare back. Yet as hard as she tried to hide her genuine emotions, she couldn't stop her body from trembling. Her pale grayish skin from crawling as the disgusting golden light that illuminated Remnant touched her skin. After all, her body still remembered the terror that had run through her all those years ago when her first attempt to challenge the Gods ended in disaster.
"Ozma, you fool. Were you so desperate to defeat me that you doomed humanity yourself?" Salem questioned out loud. Her ex-husband may remember the golden bastard as a benevolent God. But she knew the truth, God of Light, God of Darkness. It didn't matter. They were both dreadful monsters with little respect for their "creations."
But as Salem continued to watch the sky, watching as more and more meteors shot through the atmosphere. And waited to see one or both Gods come out of the rift, the more she began to question what was happening. Ozma could not have summoned the gods without getting all the relics. And more importantly, he had no reason to do so. He might have trusted the God of Light more than he should, but that didn't make him stupid. He knew that if he summoned the Gods now, they would surely judge humanity negatively.
Giving her exactly what she wanted, the extermination of all life. Ozma would never do that, not when he spent thousands of years preventing her from reaching that goal.
"What are you?" Salem questioned, now looking at the void in curiosity instead of hatred. Any thoughts about this being the twin Gods doing were now out of her head. As she now focused on figuring out what was actually causing this anomaly. It was after several minutes of quizzical staring that it happened. Three smaller … things had come out of the portal. The blurry figures joined the last of the meteors as they fell to Remnant. As Salem's eyes trailed the trajectory of the figures' fall, she lost track of them as their outlines became indistinguishable from those of the smaller meteors.
With her curiosity piqued, Salem left her balcony and made her way to search for her minions. She now had a new mission for them.

Liam Galahad
Somewhere in the Vacuo Desert
In the middle of a shallow crater lay the body of a young man looking no older than 20. His pale grey face, which looked more roguish than boyish, was coated in blood and sand. As was his feather-like ashen white hair. The rest of his body did not fare any better. The strange black and green coloured outfit he wore was a peculiar mix of a militaristic-styled robe and a peacoat, which was in tatters. With pieces either ripped off or burnt off. Leaving more of his lean body exposed to the cold night desert air.
Ringing, the low static humming in his ears was the first thing he felt as he regained consciousness. Eyes began to flutter open, revealing glimpses of magenta pools and bright green irises. Shallowed breaths escaped his lips as he tried to move. But everything hurt, especially his right leg. He didn't need to look at it to know his knee was dislocated. He could feel the familiar strain of bone poking against the side of his leg, stretching muscles and ligaments into awkward positions they just shouldn't be.
"Shite." That was the only word that left his lips as he began propping himself up slowly. Muscles flared in protest as his hands began to search for his patella under the bruised and swollen muscle. But he pushed through the pain with gritted teeth, as he didn't have the luxury of taking his time. Not when he needed to start looking for-
"Liam!"
His ears perked up as he heard her voice. "Caecilia!" He screamed back, then in one quick motion. Liam took hold of his dislocated kneecap and pushed it back into place with a guttural groan. Adrenaline shot through his system as he forced himself up to his feet and limped up the crater he had created with his fall.
Liam's eyes found her the moment he was out of the crater. She was already running to him. Her left arm crutched tightly against her body, with the right one holding it in place to stop any unnecessary motion. Her ethereal forest-green hair looked dull. The old crescent moon scar that hid right under her right eyebrow had probably reopened in the impact, as the right side of her pixie-like face was streaked with sand-coated blood. Her outfit, one very similar to his own in colour and style yet clearly designed for an archer, was in tatters. Her olive skin was exposed through the holes that littered her dark green leggings and matching arm-length gloves.
With an elated smile, Liam followed Caecilia's lead and began to run toward her as best he could.
Refusing to let his limp stop him from meeting her halfway. Each step felt like an eternity with the injuries they had sustained.
But once they reached each other, the pain stopped as they wrapped their arms around one another. It was there, in a wordless hug, that brother and sister, in everything but blood, cried tears of joy. Allowing themselves a moment of peace in the absolute chaos that was their current situation.
"It worked. The spell worked! We're alive! We're still alive!" Caecilia cried out between joy-filled laughter as she pulled back from the hug. The pain from her broken left arm kept her from holding the hug any longer. Still, she let her brother use her good shoulder to hold himself up so that he didn't fall on his arse. She wanted to ask so many questions in her current state of elation. But she settled for what was the most important one. "Where do you think it dropped us? Caecilia asked as her amber eyes locked onto the now slowly shrinking rift.
"I don't know. But we can figure that out later. Right now, we need to find anything that can work as shelter. I don't know about you, but apart from barely being able to stand, I don't think I could light a smoke with the amount of mana I have left."
"You're right. Now here, give me your arm. I don't want you getting eaten by any of this world's spooky creatures because you fell behind," Caecilia said as a teasing smile formed on her lips.
Liam let out an amused snort, glad that Caecilia could lighten up the mood. "You're saying that like we couldn't be the "spookiest creatures" here." He said as they began walking.
"Not right now, we're not. What would we do if we got attacked by anything right now? Would you jump around on one leg to distract them while I sneak behind them and smack them with my good hand?" Caecilia said, letting out a tickled laugh as she imagined them trying the maneuver on a giant lizard-like creature.
"We've used weirder strategies before," Liam replied, now full-on laughing as they continued bantering over hypothetical scenarios.
The two continued to trade barbs as their long trek for shelter continued. The lighthearted discussion kept both their minds off the pain they felt. Still, as they continued north, they couldn't avoid the topic that hung over their heads.
"So, do you think we caused that?" Caecilia asked as he looked up at the visage of the shattered moon that guided them north.
"Gods, I really fucking hope not."
A.N: I would once again like to thank you for reading the first chapter of this story. I do hope you all enjoyed it. Galahad Security is a passion project that I will update twice a month. Pyrrha Nikos
Pyrrha had dealt with pressure her whole life. The pressure she felt from her family when she first started fighting in tournaments, the pressure that came once she started winning, and the pressure she felt from her manager and fanbase to be the perfect role model they wanted her to be. All of which accumulated into the feeling of a tremendous weight upon her shoulders. It was a feeling that she thought could not be surpassed. Yet she found herself being proven wrong the day that Ozpin announced her as the leader of team PNR. Her heart had pounded so hard in her chest that day she was scared that Nora could hear it during the congratulatory hug she gave her.
