Chapter 7

Where am I? It's too bright.

Opening his eyes slowly, Heiji looked to his right and saw an IV drip inserted into his arm.

That's nice. I'm in the hospital. But how did I get here?

Moments later a nurse came in to check on Heiji.

"Oh, you're awake little guy. How are you feeling?" asked the nurse as she checked the IV drip.

Little guy, what is she on about?

"Who are ya calling little guy?" exclaimed Heiji.

My voice?!

"Sorry there big boy. I will go inform your guardian that you're awake, alright?"

Heiji was too stunned to speak as he looked at his small hands in horror.

No no, this can't be. I SHRANK TOO?! What am I gonna do and how am I meant to face Kazuha?! Ugh, lemme get out of bed first-

"OW!" Heiji exclaimed as felt his chest throbbing.

Unbuttoning his shirt he saw a large scar on his chest that was still healing.

Just great. I've shrunk and I have a big scar on my chest.

Just then the door opened and Subaru came in.

"How you feeling kid?"

"Agasa's neighbor! Not great. What am I supposed to do with this, huh?!"

"You mean the shrinking? I don't know either. I found you like this."

"You know about it?! Just what have they done to me? Anyway, where's Ku-Conan? Is he ok?"

"Not sure about his condition, he wasn't in a good state when I found him. He's at Professor's house currently."

"Can ya take me there?" Heiji asked impatiently.

"Alright. Let me ask the doctor about your discharge first."

-moments later-

"I've talked with the doctor and he said you are free to go as you've been asleep for 2 days. But you need plenty of rest and you must be careful with your movements," said Subaru.

"Two days?! Ugh alright, let's go," replied Heiji frustrated.

"YOU ARE BLIND?! AND YOU ARE SMALLER THAN BEFORE! JUST WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOUR BODY?! " Heiji was shouting all outraged.

"Look who's taking. You are just as small," replied Conan.

"At least I'm not the size of a toddler," said Heiji holding in his laughter.

"But seriously, what are we going to do about this? How are we going to face everyone like this?" asked Heiji.

"I think the best option is to go to the lab and search for drugs that could be useful," suggested Conan.

"You will NOT be going anywhere Edogawa-kun!" exclaimed Haibara.

"I agree with her Conan. You are not in a state to be running around the lab. Plus there's a high chance members of the BO are still lingering around," said Subaru who was standing by Heiji.

"No worries I will help," said a familiar voice.

Everyone stopped what they were doing to find where that voice was coming from.

"Kaito?" asked Conan.

"Yes, that's me. The one and only Kaito Kid!" said Kaito while jumping down from the ceiling.

"What are you doing here thief?" asked Heiji.

"Is that you Hattori? To help you grow again little man!" exclaimed Kaito while laughing.

"Wait until I teach you a lesson!"

"And when will that be?" asked Kaito while wiping his tears.

"Urghhh!"

"Stop goofing around. We need to get a plan in place for this mess," said Conan frustrated.

"Easy," said Kaito. "Me and the new little man will go the lab and retrieve any drugs we find. If we face any casualties we will escape and fly back."

"Not any drugs," said Haibara. "I will give you a list of drugs I need as it seems there's no stopping you guys."

"I guess I will join you too," said Subaru which made Habaira a little more eased.

D-day of going to the lab.

"Woah, half of this place has burned down," said Heiji upon arriving at the lab with Kaito and Subaru. "I wonder who's responsible."

"And that will be me."

"Kid?! Wait really?" asked Heiji surprised.

"Yes, when they sent me on a mission, I was able to get a lighter with the help of someone."

"That was dangerous! But I'm glad you're alright. Ya saved us Kid, thanks," said Heiji.

"If you're thankful, buy me a meal after we're done with this!" said Kaito with a big smile running off.

"Hey! Where are you doing? Wait for me!"

Subaru smiled as he watched them chasing each other.

"Oh the perks of youth."

After 20 minutes of looking for a safe entrance, the group were finally able to get in.

"Woah this place is a lot bigger than I thought. Well, I was in a cell the whole time after all," said Heiji laughing it off.

"That's nothing to be laughing about! You were about to die from all the torture!" exclaimed Kaito outraged.

"I agree with Kaito, Hattori. When I found you, you were bleeding heavily. You were on the brink of death," said Subaru.

"You're just exaggerating! Look, I'm fine!"

"You don't listen do you?" sighed Kaito. "Anyway, let's explore some more."

After gathering some drugs and other items Haibara asked for, Subaru, who was looking around separately from the boys, heard some voices. He informed the boys to be aware and find a safe place to hide until it's clear. Finding a small empty room nearby, Subaru hid to listen.

"What are we meant to do Aniki? The boys are out and alive, walking evidences!"

"They don't mean anything to us. The kid wasn't even the detective. Just a lousy thief. The only person that intrigues me is the child," said Jin.

"The small kid that we experimented on? What's wrong with him?" asked Vodka.

"They found another drug in his body, which I think is the Apoptoxin 4869."

"WHAT?!"

Jin glared at him.

"Sorry Aniki. But you really think that? But he's a small kid. I think you're overthinking it."

"Tch."

Subaru's eye twitched hearing their conversation.

I need to get them out of here!

After Jin and Vodka walked further away, Subaru called the boys and told them to leave.

The boys started heading to the exit when they heard footprints approaching. They hid in a nearby locker where Heiji was able to see the outside through small gaps in the locker door.

"This is driving me crazy!" exclaimed Vodka.

Heiji covered his mouth before he could let out a gasp. His heart rate increased rapidly as his eyes looked up to see the face of the torturous monster, Vodka. Heiji started shaking excessively which Kaito took into notice. With the little space they had, Kaito could only place his hands on Heiji's shoulders and stroke him to calm him down. After the footsteps were too far to hear and the coast was clear, Kaito picked up the frozen Heiji and left the lab to reach Agasa who was waiting in his car nearby.

"I'm so glad you're finally here. Are you guys alright?" asked Agasa worried.

"I am but Hattori... he's shaking uncontrollably," answered Kaito.

"Put him in the car and let's get us out of here."

"Yes."

After placing Heiji in the car, Kaito wrapped him with the blanket that was on the seat. Kaito hugged him while rubbing his back, assuring him he was safe. After a while, Heiji had fallen asleep on Kaito's lap, breathing ever so quietly. At times he would shiver and whimper in his sleep to which Kaito would say words of reassurance and pat him. Kaito felt responsible to what happened to Heiji and Conan.

I need to revert things to how they were. I need to stop the Black Organisation! But, can I do it?
