You owe me

From the first morning that Harvey wakes up next to Donna, he takes charge of preparing two cups of coffee to share with her. They enjoy it still wrapped in the warmth of the bed, their bodies half-naked and half-dressed. He usually left the cups on the nightstand, waking her up with kisses on her back and neck until she responds and embraces him, giving themselves a few moments to wake up. Then, almost silently, they sit on the bed, share the coffee, and start their day.

Donna isn't one to get up early, and that little morning ritual makes her mornings feel less like a nightmare. It only takes her a few days to get used to that small and really nice moment of intimacy.

A few weeks later, she wakes up to the alarm and finds Harvey next to her, checking his phone.

"Where is my coffee?" she groans, hugging her pillow tightly.

"Good morning first," he says, brushing a lock of hair from her face. "I thought one morning you could do it."

"Sorry?" she exclaims, rolling her eyes.

"You're the coffee specialist here."

"You've already learned to do it just as well as me. And besides, you owe me."

"I owe?" he asks, frowning.

"Yes, you owe me. How long have I been by your side?"

"Ah, I thought you did that out of love," he snorts and crosses his arms.

"I did, but it's been so much more than anyone could bear. And you were still there, looking away."

"You mean… at other women," he laughs when he sees her upset about it. He finds her jealousy endearing.

"Yeah, that," she rolls her eyes again. "The least I deserve, after all I've been through, is for you to make me coffee and wake me up with kisses every morning. It's the least, Harvey. You owe me," she says, completely serious.

"So... this relationship is to pay off my debts?"

"Yeah, you finally get it," she says, laughing.

"Okay..." he snorts. "And how long will it take me to get rid of this debt?"

"A lifetime," she responds, turning serious again.

"Uh... The interest seems to be high."

"Just like my standards. Now go make me that coffee if you don't wanna sleep alone tonight."

"Okay, okay." He leans over to kiss her on the top of her head, then stands up to leave the room.

"Great, now that you're my boyfriend, you owe me years of loyalty and you'll do what I ask even if you grumble a little first," she says with a smile on her lips. "This will definitely work."

"I heard you!" Harvey yells from the hallway.

"Go get my damn coffee, Harvey!"
