Chapter 8

New Domino City was a massive city that Leo took his time to explore. Starting in the central district of the city around the mansion. He slipped into his civilian clothes that his mother gave him and allowed the 12 year old to explore the city. Undetected; there was a very lonely atmosphere to the city buzzing with noise. From gigantic advertising billboards that Leo was told had been eliminated a century ago. Due to the massive overwhelming problem they caused. Really old models of car that had mostly been replaced by Duel Runners at least in Turbo city they had. Another thing that irked Leo was the simple lack of technology. There were no police bots going around, no Momentum scanners, holographic technology was in relative abundance. No floating buildings, or flying Duel Monsters above it all seemed…old fashion. Leo took his time moving with the crowd lost in the complex maze. The area he was in just by the clothes seemed to be a richer part of the city with all the 'modern' conveniences if you could call it that. It all looked very…21st century to him. In New Domino City home to two of the greatest Duelists of all time, one of the world's greatest Doctors and gave birth to Momentum itself.

It had a very utopian appearance to it with huge skyscrapers, beautiful blue sea, very well maintained infrastructure. Even a robust public transit system with people moving in and out of stores without much care to the wider world around them. It was incomplete contrast to the Satellite. Lifestream Dragon and Kurriboh followed Leo in their spirit form, adding extra eyes to the complex maze. Finally after some time Leo stumbled upon what he presumed was a library. Jack Atlas Public Library written in Japanese. Leo wasn't 100% as he had to have a machine translate it for him because Leo himself couldn't read Japanese. He could speak it, but the writing was lost on him. On his left wrist was a thin bracelet which acted as a Duel Disk, holographic display and even had a built-in translator. Even allowing for live translation though those features were always in development due to the complexity of language. Stepping inside the building it wasn't very populated, but around him was a massive array of physical books.

Most of them should've been in a museum or something. For they were simply irreplaceable. Printing physical books had been done in 50 years or more. A strange thing Leo pushed to the side; what was more curious was the array of desktop computers. Very old things which peaked Leo's curiosity. He walked over to them and slid the mouth with a chuckle at this. His mother had kept one in the up stairs that he would sometimes mess with. Walking over Leo moved over to one that had a logon screen and it was once again written in Japanese. Frowning, Leo looked over towards his bracelet and brought up the holographic display menu for his bracelet. Clicking a few buttons and out came two virtual holographic cords that he plugged into the slots in front of the desktop. Clicked a few buttons on the holographic display and bypassed the login screen with ease. He quickly switched the input language to English which he could read and write with ease and surfed the internet. It had a really old interface that was kept around 'Computational History of the Internet'. Going from the early sights built in the 1990s and allowing one to experience the evolution of computers over the last couple centuries.

"Kurri?" Kuriboh asked.

"It's a computer. An ancient one probably 200 years old, more likely even older than that. It called a desktop, this stuff got phased out after Kabia corp realized they could use Solid Vision for more than dueling. Within 3 years most of these computers were scrapped and replaced by the much more efficient system. A couple remained mostly in Japan, but eh. According to my holo readout they are not very powerful, but they do have the ability to surface the internet which will give us all the information we need." Kuriboh kueed with concerned as he floated onto the desk; without even paying attention Leo was getting strange looks from some of the people around him. "And now we search let's hope this thing has an Ai function or we're going to be here for quite some time."

"Kuriii…"

Leo spent about 3 hours searching the internet. Leo came up with nothing, but a waste of time. From scammy ads, to politics to terrible UI that blocked his ability to find anything useful, but frustration. Finally he gave up and left the library in continued search of the city. The sun had moved to halfway past noon or quarter in the sky left. He crossed into an alleyway which was filled with people who had gathered in a circle. Leo was drawn to the chaos as whispers filled the room to what was clearly an illegal street duel. Moving his index finger on his right hand a holographic readout appeared from his bracelet as Leo looked over the field. On his right was a duelist with no monsters on the field, 2 face downs, 3 cards in hand and 400 life points. On his left was a player with 1 Celtic Guardian on his field in attack mode, 4 cards in his hand, zero face-downs and 2000lp left. The player on the left was getting clobbered with no easy route to victory. Leo moved to a better position where he could catch the match in full.

"Kurii?" Kuriboh asked.

"It's just a street duel Kuriboh no need to get so worked up," Leo looked over to see Lifestream Dragon who was carefully eyeing the field. Something was on his best friend's mind. Lifestream was the very first card Leo had ever received, the very first duel spirit he had ever seen. He trusted his friend with his life more than anything, but his lack of communication was always a problem. Leo stopped for a moment when he felt a sudden surge of Momentum energy. With that he side stepped as cracking from the ground emerged angry black vines that screwed over the entire area. Leo dodged the vines as chaos arose across the crowd which took out running to avoid. "Nevermind looks like you were right." With that Leo hit as his turbo dueling uniform appeared over his body giving him his persona of the 'Ghost From the Satellite'. A joke that Leo would love to show Avery if she was around which at this point Leo had no clue. For all he knew his family could've been very well down. Phasing through a solid bout of rock as it slammed against the ground. He came face to face with his unknown enemy being wrapped in roses.

The vines wrapped around the body of a figure. Momentum energy was dancing around this individual's body which Leo could tell was female. Whoever she was, her Momentum energy was not very well concealed or controlled. Seemingly more vapid and out of control as Leo appeared right in front of her. Lifting his hand out he used his own powers to send some of the flying rocks towards the strangers direction. Which clearly caught them off guard in surprises. "What are you doing?" Leo screamed in Japanese to the individual.

"Did you just?" The figure stumbled back in surprise as all eyes were on the two of them. "Who are you?"

"Who am I?" Leo said, "Why I'm the Ghost from the Satellite. The spirit of the legendary warrior come again. Reborn to bring evil to its knees!" Everyone was looking at the scene unfold in utter confusion. The figure who wore the mask looked around in confusion. With that Leo put his hand and reached in to summon the Momentum energy in his hand which sent sparks out of his hand. An exhausting move to discharge so much which sent the masked stranger backward. The figure stood up from the dirt and floated into the air as the vines emerged from the ground. With that Leo stood there for a moment before phasing through the vines. Landing unscared away as Lifestream Dragon appeared. "How about you stop playing and we do this the old fashion way?" Leo asked as he summoned the holographic duel disk. Lifestream looked at him with agitation, "Relax this will be a breeze."

"Don't get cocky," the woman warned and Leo could only smile.

"Duel!" Both of them shouted.

The duel didn't last long as soon the sounds of sirens blared in the distance. "Well it appears our duel has come to an end!" With that the woman who Leo came to know as sirens blared from Sector Security. With that a portal opened behind and with that Leo slipped away as the chaos emerged.
