The Red Wedding:
It had taken them almost a week to travel from King's Landing to Saltpans. The ship they had was small so it could easily sneak past patrols during the night which was important since there were still some ships under the control of the Lannisters patrolling around Duskendale and even up into Maidenpool which would soon have to be retaken. Once they all got back home they could discuss plans on what to do next but now there was a chance to end this war once and for all and then everyone could go home. Astrid did wonder what her brother would think about the fact that she had killed a king. Now the north was currently holding two Kingslayers, her and Jaime Lannister but unlike him, Astrid had not betrayed her king since she did not recognise him as her overlord. Catelyn would be happy to have her daughters back and this would be the first time she would have all of her children safe since King Robert had travelled north to name Eddard Stark as Hand of the King.
But now, King Robb Stark and their forces were all in terrible danger and they had no idea. While preparing to kill King Joffrey Baratheon, Astrid Snow had managed to uncover a plot that Lord Tywin Lannister was involved with that would have seen the end of Robb's campaign and he was collaborating with Lord Walder Frey who said he was speaking to a few disgruntled northern nobles but didn't say who and they were planning on ambushing Robb at a planned Wedding to bring the Frey's back into Robb's army. Astrid had made a warning to Tywin that if he went through with this, he would kill his eldest son Jaime in retaliation. But even with that, the Frey's had still plotted against them and could still go through with the plan anyway so Astrid needed to warn Robb but first they had to get to Harrenhal and hopefully send a message.
Harrenhal brought back bad memories for Arya since she had been held here during the early days of the war after being captured by Lannister forces. Tywin had used it as a staging ground for his raids into the Riverlands and had been forced to leave in order to battle the Starks at the Battle of the Fords which failed and was forced to retreat to King's Landing. Afterwards Harrenhal had been held by a Sellsword group called the Brave Companions, a company that consisted of mostly outlaws and criminals led by a man called Vargo Hoat known as the Black Goat and led the group on raids in the Riverlands. They were little more than bandits and were involved in all kinds of crimes including murder, kidnapping and rape including children. They had turned on the Lannisters when the Starks arrived and slaughtered the remaining Lannister men. Lord Roose Bolton had used them to weed out remaining Lannister holdouts in the Riverlands but after Roose had departed to rejoin the Starks for Hoster Tully's funeral, Vargo had returned to his bandit ways so Robb had sent Cullen Rostark and the Company of the Rose, who had returned from the north leaving a fe men behind to help Brandon Stark, to take the castle and kill the Brave Companions.
Cullen had taken the castle with ease as Vargo had suddenly started to grow mad after an attempted rape of a woman went wrong which resulted in an infected ear which had been bitten off and the rot and caused him to go mad. The Brave Companions had broken up during this but were no match for the Company of the Rose who hunted them down one group at a time. Now most were dead including Vargo, the only one spared was a disgraced Maester called Qyburn who was kept alive due to his knowledge on healing.
As Astrid and the others came into view, the gates of Harrenhal were opened and as they walked, they saw the severed heads of the Brave Companions displayed on spikes on the walls. Vargo Hoat was there with his ear looking green and infected. Arya also noticed the severed head of Septon Utt, a rapist Septon who had eyed Hot Pie when they were imprisoned and she recognised the heads of the two criminals who had accompanied Jaqen Hagar and who had joined the Brave Companions. She didn't know their names but she remembered their faces.
At the main keep, they were met by Lieutenant Frorkmar Battle-Torn who smiled at them "Astrid Snow, It's good to see you again." He greeted "And you as well Tytos." He then noticed Sansa who he did not know "I'm guessing you must be Lady Sansa Stark, welcome to Harrenhal."
"Thank you my lord." Sansa greeted
Frorkmar laughed "No need to call my lord, I'm just a soldier, there is no lord here right now, Cullen Rostark leads the men here with Edward Forrester."
"Ed's here?" Astrid asked
"Aye, Cullen can explain more." Frorkmar said and he led them all into the main hall of Harrenhal where Astrid saw Cullen at a table with Edward Forrester at his side.
Cullen looked up when he saw them "Ah, Astrid, I see that you've returned and I'm guessing this new girl must be lady Sansa." Cullen stated "Let me introduce myself, I am Cullen Rostark, son of Commander Joseph Rostark, commander of the Company of the Rose and descendent from our company's founder Mors Stark, youngest son of Torrhen Stark, the King who knelt."
Sansa looked at him "So I guess that means we're cousins?" Sansa asked
"Very very distant cousins." Cullen replied "We're all descendant from Torrhen Stark but I don't think we can call ourselves cousins since we don't share any close relations but we are a cadet branch just like the Karstarks."
It was then that Arya noticed something on Cullen's hip, it was a blade, not a proper sword but more like a rapier, Arya seeing this realised what it was, it was needle, the sword that Jon Snow had given her before she left Winterfell to journey to King's Landing. "Where did you get that sword?" she demanded.
Cullen looked at the sword Arya was eyeing "You mean this rapier, we recovered it from a Lannister patrol we took out shortly after taking Harrenhal, the blade was finely made and so we decided to keep it. Why do you ask?"
"Because it's mine." Arya replied "It's Needle, a blade given to me by Jon that he had made by the Winterfell blacksmith Mikken. It has his maker's mark on it. It was taken from me by a Lannister man who killed my friend Lommy with it."
Cullen took the blade from his belt and looked at the mark on the hilt and saw that it was the same as some swords found in Winterfell. He then handed the blade over to Arya "Then I am happy to return this to it's rightful owner." He then looked at Astrid "I've been hearing some strange news from King's Landing. Word has been that there is a new King on the Iron Throne, did you have something to do with that?"
"She did." Arya smiled as she examined her old sword happy that she had it back "She shot Joffrey with a crossbow and then beheaded him."
Astrid brought the sack out and placed Joffrey's severed head on the table "This should serve as a warning that the North remembers. We may not even need to go after Casterly Rock now, we've shown that we mean business and we will fight if the Lannisters push us. If Tywin wants to fight us then we'll send his son back to him in pieces and he no longer has anyone to use against us. I need to speak to our king, let him know what has happened."
"Well King Robb is at the Twins right now preparing for Edmure's wedding?" Cullen replied
"Uncle Edmure is getting married?" Sansa questioned
"Yes it was part of the agreement to bring the Freys back into the fold." Cullen replied "Robb would personally apologize and Edmure would marry Walder's daughter Roslin."
Astrid's eyes widened in horror "No, that Wedding is a trap!" she gasped "Betraying us is one thing but breaking Guest Right, that's a whole other level of sacrilege."
Edward and Cullen looked at each other "What do you mean?" Edward asked
"While we were rescuing Sansa we uncovered some important papers from Tywin's office." Tytos replied "Walder Frey and Tywin Lannister have been in talks about an alliance, Walder agreed to take out the Starks in return for being named Lord Paramount of the Riverlands. This Wedding must be how he's going to do it. Gathering all the lords together and taking them all out at once."
"Even with our threat, Walder might still go through with it and these papers already prove that he is a traitor." Astrid said "We have to get there at once."
Cullen stood up "I'm going with you." He said "My father is at the Twin with Galmar."
"I'm coming too." Edward added "My brother and his family are all there. They're all in danger."
Astrid looked at them "We're not all going, too many and we'll move too slow, we have to get there fast." She said and looked at Tytos "Tytos, you take my sisters back to Riverrun, they should be safe there."
Cullen looked at Frorkmar "Frorkmar, you're in command here while I go to rescue our Commander."
"Yes commander." Frorkmar replied.
"I want to come too." Arya protested
"This is too dangerous Arya." Astrid replied "You're still not a skilled enough fighter yet for this kind of fight. We need to get to the Twins and fast before those traitorous Frey's kill everyone we've ever known."
"But without Tywin's support, would they still do it?" Sansa questioned
"Never underestimate Tywin Lannister." Astrid replied "That man destroyed two ancient and noble families that have been around for generations and killed the Targaryen children just to ensure his legacy. He may not even care about Jaime but even if he does, the fact that the Frey's were willing to betray us is enough for us to go after them. Plus even without Tywin's support, they could get someone else's. Also the letters said there were a few supporters in the north and we don't know who. With everyone at one place, it is the perfect place to strike."
"Aye and the fewer of us travelling the quicker we'll be." Cullen added
"So it's just me, Astrid and Cullen." Edward replied "Get the horses ready, the faster we ride the better."
...
The castle known as the Twins was a newer castle in terms of Westerosi history. The original castle was built 600 years ago by a petty lord who built a rickety wooden bridge at the narrowest crossing over the Green Fork river. Later wooden castles were built and after three generations, the Twins was built in stone and would become a major castle in the Riverlands since travellers often had to cross the bridge and pay tolls which made House Frey quite rich but often looked down on as upstart toll collectors but were still one of the Riverlands major houses. The castle was known as the Twins since the castles on both sides of the river looked identical.
House Frey had a bad reputation under Lord Walder Frey who was over eighty years old and regarded as a weasel since he had married eight times and had many sons and daughters. Many of these sons and grandsons were often seen as weasels and looked down on but there were some exceptions to House Frey both past and present. Robb's former squire Olyvar Frey had been regarded as a good man and Robb had been looking forward to seeing him again but he was nowhere to be seen. Walder had explained that he had been sent on a scouting mission to deal with some trouble with outlaws. His older brother Perwyn had been sent with him.
Catelyn thought that this was strange. Lady Roslin Frey, who her brother Edmure was marrying was the full sister of both Perwyn and Olyvar so she thought they would have been attending. Speaking of Roslin, Edmure had been worried that his bride to be wouldn't look great due to the reputation of the Freys looking like weasels but Roslin seemed to be beautiful, much better than what Edmure had been expecting and even though they had just met, they were both chatting to each other on the head table like they had known each other for a long time.
Robb and his wife Talisa were at another table talking to each other. Robb had been forced to lock Grey Wind in the kennels as he had gotten quite aggressive with the Freys, something that Catelyn thought was strange as Grey Wind didn't normally act like that unless it was an enemy. Catelyn was starting to feel uneasy. Galmar Stone Fist and who of his best Warriors stood guard with Robb while most of the other lords seemed to be drinking wine, quite a lot of wine. Only Galmar and his guards as well as Commander Joseph didn't seem to be drinking. Weddings were usually a place to celebrate and drink till you drop which is what Lord Greatjon Umber seemed to be doing. Rickard Karstark seemed pretty grumpy, he still was not happy with the situation but Robb hoped that his mood would improve soon. Darcy Mormont seemed to be dancing with the young Frey lords but they all made sure to keep their distance since she was still good with her axe.
Lord Roose Bolton sat next to Catelyn along with her uncle Brynden who were watching Edmure chatting with his new wife and eating. "Look at them, chatting each other up like lovesick puppies." Brynden stated "It's like they've known each other for years. Lord Frey couldn't have picked a better daughter for him to marry. It's something he always wanted."
"Lord Frey always has a way of trying to get what he wants." Roose replied "Even if it costs him in the end."
Catelyn looked at him "Didn't you marry a Frey recently?" she asked
Roose smiled "Oh yes, lots of people said I needed to marry again and produce an heir after the passing of my wife and son. Lady Bethany Rsywell and Domeric Bolton. All I had left is my son Ramsay and well, he's not quite lord material, I placed far too much trust in him and that whole Lady Hornwood situation made me realise I need a new wife. Lord Frey offered me a wife and her weight in silver as her dowry so I took the fattest one. I got quite a lot of silver and a new wife, she is pretty in a sort of way, not a great beauty but not ugly either even if she's overweight. She's back at the Dreadfort now with a child on the way. I only hope Ramsay doesn't get jealous, he has a tendency to do rash things."
"Surely he wouldn't think to try and kill his brother?" Catelyn questioned
"He is under a lot of suspicion as being the one who poisoned Domeric but there is no hard proof." Roose replied "Still Lady Barbary Dustin and her family refuse to allow him on their lands, Domeric's mother was Lady Dustin's sister. That boy is very unpredictable so I may have to head home to make sure he does nothing reckless."
Over at another table, Robb and Talisa were both chatting with each other and Robb saw his mother with Lord Bolton "I should probably go and rescue her."
"Your mother is in less need of rescue than any other woman here." Talisa replied stopping him "Besides she has her brother to look out for her."
Robb scoffed "Be kind, she's just started to like you." He then turned to see Lord Karstark still grumbling "Which is more than I can say of Lord Karstark."
"He lost one of his sons." Talisa stated "It's hard losing a family member you love. I like your mother as well, she is kind to you but if she had her way I would have been sent back to Volantis where I would be playing my harp and you would be up there eating blackberries out of Roslin's hand."
Robb tried to hold in a laugh and decide to tease Talisa "Prehaps I have made a terrible mistake, Roslin Frey is a fine bride." Talisa gasped in mock horror and tried to slap Robb only for her hand to be caught by Robb "Striking the King is an act of treason." He teased and tried to kiss her only for Talisa to say no so they would not insult Lord Frey any further.
Elsewhere, Joseph Rostark was looking around, unlike others he was standing up and leaning against a wall close to the King. Galmar and his companions sat down at another table. One of the Frey girls approached him with a jug of wine "Drink?" she asked
Joseph shook his head "No thanks, I prefer to stay sober." He said politely. The girl nodded and walked away but Joseph thought he saw fear in her eyes as well as worry. He took a closer look around, something didn't seem right here. It was then that he did notice something and walked over to Galmar "Hey, something's not right here, have you noticed anything about the drinks here?"
"Actually yes." Galmar nodded "They seemed very strong and I have a good stomach and mind for wine. I thought it was because it was down to the celebration, everyone needs a release."
"True but take a look around." Joseph replied "Notice anything about the Freys?"
Galmar did and he saw that the Freys were all standing around, not drinking and they seemed to be watching and waiting for something "Yeah actually, why are they not celebrating like everyone else, this is their wedding?"
Joseph looked around and saw a doorway "Hey, create a distraction, get everyone's attention for a few moments and I'll sneak away to check the place out. Something's not right."
"Understood Commander." Galmar said and he watched as Joseph went over to the side and then Galmar knocked on his table several times getting everyone's attention "I hope you don't mind me getting a few moments of your time but I have something I want to say. I am Galmar Stone Fist of the Company of the Rose and I think I should apologize for the rest of my people's absence here. It may seem a bit disrespectable and I hope you can accept my apologizes for not being her for the important wedding of Lord Edmure Tully and Lady Roslin Frey. I would like to give a toast to Lord Tully for getting a beautiful bride."
"To Lord Tully!" everyone cheered and drank from their goblets and this distraction allowed Joseph to slip out of the room unseen.
Only Brynden Tully had noticed it and he looked around again and saw that the Frey's weren't drinking hinting that something was wrong. "I think I'm going to step outside for a few moments." He said "I really could do with a piss, I'll be back in a bit." He stepped up and left the Hall to take a piss but in reality, he was hoping to try and find Commander Joseph and see what was wrong. Catelyn watched as her uncle left and wondered about the safety of her daughters. Arya had returned to King's Landing to try and help her other daughter Sansa. She so far had not heard anything about the mission as Robb had been busy with the Wedding and to plan the assault on Casterly Rock. She had sent her sworn Shield Brianne of Tarth to Harrenhal to help protect Sansa when they arrived. Brianne hoped that this assignment would go better than the last one she had been sent on but at least the Company of the Rose were more pleasant company and more open to women fighting than other groups of soldiers.
...
Brynden caught up with Joseph as he was sneaking through the coridoors "What are you doing?" he whispered "What's going on?"
Joseph turned to see Brynden and knowing that the Blackfish could be trusted, he decided to kill him "Something's not right here, I've noticed that the Frey's seem to be insisting on everyone drinking a lot of wine except them and I noticed one of the servants looking worried. I'm going to check what's going on."
The two of them walked down and saw a room where they heard chatting, the door was slightly open so they decided to take a closer look. The first thing that caught their attention was that the men in this room were armoured and while some seemed to be Frey men, others were not. One in particular caught their attention, he was chatting loudly. Joseph did not know who this was but Brynden did "Wait, I know that man."
"You do?" Joseph asked "Who is he?"
"His name is Locke, a soldier from House Bolton." Brynden replied "He led some of the Bolton troops during the war but was caught raping common girls from Westerland villages and so he was sent to the Wall. Lord Bolton allowed it since he said that he was concerned about the influence he has over his men, he's also a good friend of his bastard son Ramsay. Both I've heard are sadist. Lord Roose was just talking about how Ramsay is a danger."
"It can't be good that he's here and from what I'm hearing, they're waiting for something." Joseph added "Them being armoured is another bad sign; we must carry on and find out what's going on. The two of them carried on through the corridors until they came to what looked like a prison area. They saw a Frey standing guard which Brynden recognised as Ser Aerys Frey, Lord Walder's second Son.
Aneys was scowling at the man in the cells "Thought you could try and warn your friend did you." He snorted "You betrayed our family Olyvar, you're lucky father didn't just kill you. I would have."
"You people are scum!" the man in the cell yelled who was called Olyvar "You dare break a sacred guest right. I hope the gods curse you all!"
"Gods" Aenys laughed "There are no such things as Gods, they're just stories that people make up to try and make themselves feel more important. They..." he then noticed Joseph and Brynden "What the? Who's there? You're not allowed down here!"
Then Olyvar took the opportunity to grand Aenys and smash his head against the cell walls knocking him out. He quickly took the keys and let himself out of the cell. When he saw Joseph and Brynden, he recognised Brynden "Blackfish?"
Brynden know realised who this Olyvar was, he was Olyvar Frey, the eighteenth daughter of Lord Frey and formally Robb's squire until he was forced to leave. "Olyvar?" he questioned "What's going on, why were you in that cell!"
"My fucking father threw me in there when I found out his plan." Olyvar hissed "He was going to betray Robb during this wedding and had Tywin Lannisters support until he pulled out, something about not risking the safety of his son so my father found a new backer, a claimant to the Iron Throne, Stannis Baratheon."
"Stannis!" Joseph gasped
"Aye, he was desperate for help so he cut a deal with my father and that bastard Ramsay Snow." Olyvar explained "They were going to get everyone drunk and then massacre them. Ramsay plans on killing his father and taking control of the North, he has help from some minor men from the north including someone from House Karstark but it didn't say who but it's not Lord Karstark, they ordered him in particular to be killed here. Stannis is apparently sailing to the Wall to help deal with the Wildlings there but then plans on meeting his new allies and marching south. I found out about the plan and tried to warn Robb but my brother Benfrey caught me and they imprisoned my here. They sent Perwyn out to keep him away but they might kill him as well. My father doesn't really care about any of us. Once the Bedding ceremony is called and Roslin is out, they will massacre everyone in."
"We have to get back there now!" Brynden called "Everyone is in serious danger!"
"I can lead you back." Olyvar offered "I know a shortcut."
"Let's hurry." Joseph ordered "We haven't got much time, Lord Frey looked ready to order the bedding ceremony."
...
Back in the Great Hall of the Twins, everyone was unaware of what was about to happen and what the Freys had planned. Most people seemed to be drunk and distracted and so it was seen as the time for an important event in weddings.
"Your Grace." Walder Frey called and everyone was banging their knives and forks until Walder held his hand for silence "The Septon has prayed his prayers, some words were said and Lord Edmure has wrapped my daughter in a cloak. But they are not yet married, after all a sword needs a sheath." Everyone laughed at the joke "As a wedding needs a bedding. What does my sire say."
"To bed!" everyone called "To bed!"
Robb slowly stood up and called out "If you think the time is right Lord Walder, then let us bed them."
The Bedding ceremony was a Westerosi custom of where the bride and groom were carried out of the room by the unmarried men and women to their bedchamber where they would consummate their marriage, often their clothes were stripped as they were carried away. That was what happened as more of Lord Frey's daughters quickly picked up Lord Edmure and began carrying him away while the unmarried men picked up Roslin Frey and carried her.
Catelyn did not miss the look of fear on Roslin's face "Poor girl, I hope my brother treats her well."
Roose snorted a laugh "Every bride suffers the same." He said "I'm sure you endured yours with grace."
Catelyn looked at him "Don't you remember? I guess it was quite long ago now but I remember it well. There was no bedding ceremony. Ned forbade it, he said that it wouldn't be right if he broke a man's jaw on his wedding night." Roose snorted and walked away.
Meanwhile Talisa watched in shock, there had been no bedding ceremony at hers and Robb's wedding. "That is a very strange custom." She commented "And I thought Weddings in Volantis were shocking. We never had anything like that."
"It's tradition." Robb replied "I guess it does seem strange to a foreign, without a bedding ceremony there is no proper way to know if the bride and groom have consummated their marriage."
Talisa laughed and took Robb's hand to her stomach where a small baby bump was developing. Before the wedding, she had informed Robb that she was pregnant and Robb had been overjoyed by the news "There are other ways of providing proof."
"A boy or girl?" Robb asked
"I don't know." Talisa replied "There is no way of knowing until the birth but if it a boy I think I know what I want to name him. Eddard, after your father, he was a man of honour, this could be our way of honouring him. After all I never got the chance to meet him." Robb laughed and the two of them kissed.
Catelyn watched them kiss and then turned to see the steward of the Twins, Walder's son Lothar Frey known as Lame Lothar due to him walking with a limp closing the doors. That seemed odd to Catelyn and then she heard the musicians began playing another song. The lyrics seemed odd to Catelyn, like they had been made up but in the middle of the tunes, she thought she heard the familiar tune of the Rains of Castamere; the song made up about how Lord Tywin Lannister had destroyed House Reyne of Castamere and served as a warning to those who crossed Lord Tywin.
As the song ended, Lord Frey held hand. "Your Grace." He called getting everyone's attention causing everyone to sit down with Ryman Frey, the heir to the Twins taking Roose's place. Roose was standing against the wall. "I feel I've been remised in my duties. I've given you meat and wine and music but I haven't given you the hospitality you deserve. My king has married and I own my new queen a wedding gift."
As he was talking, Catelyn looked at Ryman and noticed that something was under his clothing. Carefully removing the sleeve of his shirt, he saw that he was wearing chainmail underneath. Why would he be wearing armour then she realised the song and everything suddenly fell into place. The absence of Olyvar and Perwyn Frey, the song just played, the heavy amount of drinking, the closing of the doors and now the armour. She realised everything. She stood up abruptly and slapped Ryman hard on the cheek. "Robb, it's a trap!" she yelled as Ryman yelled
As soon as she said that, all hell broke loose. Before anyone could react, Lothar pulled a dagger from his sleeve and stabbed Talisa many times in her womb right in front of Robb, then the musicians pulled out crossbows and began firing at the crowd. One hit Robb in the chest. The northern guards tried to get up but were pulled back by the Freys and their throats were slit. Wendel Manderly was also killed when a crossbow struck his head
The northern lords tried to help but Greatjon Umber was quickly knocked out since he was very drunk. His son Smalljon tried to help Robb by throwing a table to help take the hits from the Crossbows. But Smalljon was hit and while he tried to fight, an axe took his head off with two swings. Darcy Mormont quickly smashed a flagon into Benfrey Frey's head and began to fight. But the most effective of them was Galmar Stone Fist. As soon as Catelyn had yelled he had pulled out his massive warhammer and began swinging it like a madman striking Tytos Frey in the head and caving his skull in.
Walder Frey just sat down watching the chaos and eating and then the doors opened and more men poured in. Roose Bolton recognised them and gasped when he realised who they were. He recognised Locke and realised who was involved in this. Roose tried to fight but was stabbed in the back and stabbed in the chest by Locke "Ramsay sends his regards." He sneered as Roose fell to the floor. Rickard Karstark was also cut down by some of his own men wearing Karstark colours. The new men in the room made it harder for Galmar and Darcy to fight on as while they were skilled, they were outnumbered. Darcy was eventually killed when Ryman having recovered from the slap swung his longaxe into Darcy's chest. Galmar carried on fighting taking out several other Freys including Symond Frey, Walder's seventh son, Jarred Frey, Walder's fourth son and Rhaegar Frey, grandson of Walder through his son Aenys Frey.
A whole bunch of Frey united just to try and take out Galmar who was knocking guards down left right and centre. But even he was helpless to keep fighting against the swarms and he ran over to Robb to try and help him but was shot in the leg by a crossbow and forced to the ground. Hosteen and Ryman grabbed him and forced him out. Galmar just glared at them "You worthless cunts!" he growled "You folks are nothing but scum breaking one of our most sacred laws. Your house will be beaten down and sown with salt! The north will not forget this!" He was slapped by Merrett Frey "Come on is that all you've got!" he yelled
Ryman just scoffed "Alright enough, kill this fucker already!"
Galmar was not scared at all "Yeah go on then, kill me you fucking cowards. You all just spineless pieces of shit, getting others to do your dirty work and attacking when we're not prepared! What kind of men are you?"
Arwood Frey, Hosteen's son tried to be the one to kill him but he kept trying to torment him and Galmar lurched forward biting Arwood in the neck and pulled back causing Arwood to bleed badly. Merret quickly responded by stabbing Galmar in the neck and then he was released to fall back to the floor.
Meanwhile, Catelyn, who had been hit in the shoulder by a crossbow crawled under the tables towards Walder Frey. Robb meanwhile pushed himself up and got to Talisa who had stopped moving, her eyes wide and her body bloody. Walder laughed "The king in the north arises." Robb could only look at Talisa's lifeless eyes and weep.
Catelyn managed to grab Walder's wife Joyeuse Erenfod who had hidden under the table and she dragged her out and placed a knife to her throat. "Lord Walder enough!" she yelled "Let it end! He is my first born son, please let him go. Let him go and we will forget it, i swear it by all the gods."
"You already swore an oath right here in my home!" Walder snapped "You promised my your son would marry one of my daughters and he goes and marries this foreign whore! Tywin Lannister offered my lordship of the Riverlands but he pulled out on the deal when that Targaryen bastard of your family killed the king!" Catelyn widened her eyes at that "That's right, Joffrey is dead but I still had a plan, all I needed was a new backer and I found one in another clainment king. Stannis Baratheon, he's sailing north now to take your lands and I will help him march south. He rewards those who help him."
But as soon as he said that, a crossbow bolt struck Walder Frey right in the head. Catelyn looked to the balcony and saw Joseph Rostark, her uncle Brynden and Olyvar Frey stood having taken out the musicians who wielded the crossbows. "And you have no right to do any of this you fucking traitors!" Joseph yelled having heard Walder's speech "The North remembers and we will never bow to the south again no matter who claims to be king." Walder began choking on his own blood "Your house will disappear, you name will disappear and your castle torn down, this I swear."
"And I renounce all of you!" Olyvar yelled "You are no family of mine. I am no longer Olyvar Frey anymore, I am just Olyvar with no last name. I hope you all burn in the Seven hells." He then looked at Robb "Please my king, get up, get up and walk out now."
"Please Robb." Catelyn yelled but Robb was not responding, he just stared at the dead body of his wife, his will had been broken by everything, he could not carry on.
As Walder chocked his last breath, Ryman Frey stepped forward "Well, looks like I'm the lord of the Twins now." He laughed
"Stay back!" Catelyn snapped "Or I will slit your step-mother's throat."
"So what!" Ryman scoffed not caring at all "She's nothing to us, just a girl our sire fucked to please his old body.
Robb finally stood up "Mother!" he gasped
Hother Frey stepped forwards "Stannis Baratheon sends his regards!" he stated and stabbed him in the chest much to Catelyn's horror, she screamed and slashed Joyeuse's throat and just stared at the body of her son until Black Walder stepped behind her and slit her own throat causing her to drop dead.
The Freys all turned to the balcony where Joseph, Brynden and Olyvar stood "We have to go now!" Joseph stated
They all nodded and turned to run while Brynden gave one last sad look at the dead body of his niece and her son.
Chapter end:
Notes: Well another chapter down and this may have been the biggest for this story yet. I did the Red Wedding but more with the book characters, with so many Freys I couldn't keep all of them but used some of the books events here. I also decided to kill Walder Frey here which will have consequences and allow more book events with the Brotherhood without Banners who will appear in the next chapter. I almost killed Joseph here but decided to keep him alive though he may not survive the events ahead as now we will be into the Civil War in the north and Riverlands. Just to clear something up, Roose Bolton was not part of the Red Wedding like in canon because he is a smart man and knew that the plan would have failed because this time Robb has an advantage. Still Ramsay Snow was involved and so were some Karstark members which is why they decided to kill Lord Rickard who was not at the wedding in canon. The Karstarks and Umbers will be more based off the book versions than the shows since they're more interesting. I am also having problems since readers don't seem to be detected but I think this has happened before. I am now planning on starting a new story next since I want to branch out and make new stories than keep updating the ones I have.
