A/N: This was prompted many moons ago by hellcsweetie on twitter who suggested Cameron Dennis's p.o.v on how Donna was different. So thank you luisa for the idea and thanks to follow-ur-shadow (Cassie_esther on twitter) for the inspo recently :) I'm hoping Cameron come's off as condescending as I wanted him too without being too much of an asshat. I think he's generally a dick with good intentions or a decent man with good intentions that always come off the wrong way. Not 100% sure. Anyways, I hope you guys enjoy this oneshot of Cameron Dennis's eyes on Darvey.

The D.A.'s Eyes.

Cameron Dennis rolled his eyes for the fifth time that day as he saw his rising ADA and protege sit on the edge of his secretary's desk, leaning forward to be nearer to the redhead.

Harvey has been infatuated with the red thing ever since she transferred to his desk. At first, Dennis was highly amused with the development, seeing the infamous cocky- womanizer Harvey Specter get shot down by some lowly secretary. He still remembered the conversation and interaction he'd seen the first day she transferred over to his desk.

"So, you going to tell me what you did to my other secretary now? Did you have her killed? Are you CIA? blink once for yes twice for no." Harvey conspiratorially whispered the last part to his brand new secretary. Dennis frowned as he caught sight of the new girl, he'd never seen her before, last time he'd walked past Harvey's office yesterday Tina was still there, obnoxiously tapping her acrylic long nails against her desk in between phone calls. Whoever this new girl was, she was definitely an upgrade from snooty Tina from the Bronx area who came in every other day with her overly done face and ill-fitted jackets and skirts.

The redhead cocked her head to the side, jutting out her chest inadvertently as she pushed her chair closer to Harvey, peeking at him from her eyelashes. She kept a steady gaze at him, her hazel eyes not once fluttering as she refused to answer either way, hands folded neatly on her desk.

"What are you- stop that." Harvey frowned at her once he caught up and all the secretary did was smile a little bit more as she continued staring up at him with a mix of demureness and determination in her eyes. "Holy shit maybe you are CIA."

"I'll never tell." The girl sing-songed her response, still not breaking eye contact, not blinking once, as Harvey smirked back at her.

This girl- this girl was a keeper. She had milky light pale skin dusted with freckles all over that reminded him for some reason of his summers at the CatSkills. That paired with her scarlett red hair made it seem like she was a natural redhead, something Dennis rarely saw in New York. She had cute bangs that made her seem like she was young, bright and eager, and doe-like eyes that added to that fantasy.

Her pouty lips definitely did the opposite, and right now they were shined with some gloss and smirking at Harvey, and Dennis had to swallow an eye roll as she stood up from behind her desk. Of course she had long legs and he couldn't really tell under her lumpy sweater but her chest seemed an admirable size as well, and her waist was cinched under her work skirt. How Harvey ended up with the cliche bombshell of a secretary when he had Bertha was beyond him.

He wasn't sure what her next response was to Harvey, but it must've been clever for his ADA to chuckle back at her.

"Specter! My office, now." Cameron snapped as he walked into his own office. Harvey came in a few seconds later and stood next to Cameron, who was looking at a folder in between his hands and standing in front of his window paneled office that gave him a glimpse of all of the office's cubicles- including Harvey's new secretary. He kept his eyes cast down at the folder as Harvey came in.

"You called, boss?" Harvey sarcastically drawled out with an insincere smile and Dennis smirked back in reply motioning from him to come closer.

"New secretary?"

"Mhm. She and Tina swapped desks."

Dennis raised an eyebrow, surprised Harvey could even remember his last secretary's name - he barely used her.

"And did I approve this transfer?" Dennis looked up minutely from the folder to take a glance at Harvey's side profile that showcased his hesitancy, his mouth half open to protest or defend his choice, and a small burrowed frown on his head that made him seem flustered with what to say.

Dennis snickered to himself, the kid still had a long way to learn.

"Relax, kid. I'm fine with it. Hell she's already an upgrade to my view already." Cameron joked and Harvey let out half an exhale of relief and a half a chuckle of agreement.

"She's something else alright." Harvey agreed with a smirk as he cast his eyes back to the secretary with a gleam in them.

"Think she's a real redhead?" Cameron whispered his question and Harvey raised a brow of surprise at the question.

"I'm married, not dead Harv." Dennis clarified with an eye roll and Harvey shrugged his shoulders.

"Looks like it." He couldn't tell if that was his response to Cameron having a pulse and checking out the new hot chick in the office, or if it was him agreeing about the new girl's hair status.

"Well I'm sure you'll let me know what you find out, hotshot. Just remember I don't want her distracting you from your work here. We've got bad guys to put away."

"Please it's gonna take more than just some hot girl to get me to lose my focus. I've got my eye on-"

"Her?" Cameron teased and Harvey rolled his eyes. "On the ball."

"Mm maybe she'll repay the favor later on if you know what I mean." Cameron wiggled his eyebrows exaggeratingly to compensate for his crass joke, painting it over with a goofy look that caused Harvey to let out a surprised chuckle before leaving his office to finish working.

"Hey wait a minute-" Harvey paused his steps "what's her name?"

"Donna. Donna Paulsen"

Cameron nodded and Harvey exited the office.

-

Later on Cameron went to re-introduce himself to the lovely Donna Paulsen.

She was more guarded than playful like she was with Harvey, but he figured that had to do with his power as her boss's boss. "So, Donna Paulsen was it?"

"Yes, but you already knew that." Donna smartly replied with a closed, tight-lipped smile decorating her glossed lips. Cameron smirked at her alluring cocksured ways. For a secretary, she had balls.

"That's good. Well I'm-

"Cameron Dennis, the District Attorney himself. I'm aware."

Cameron raised a brow in surprise at her tenacity, hiding the flush of embarrassment that crawled down his spine at her insinuation. He felt like a bit of a jackass at the thought of a receptionist having more awareness of her surroundings than the boss, who couldn't be bothered to learn all the names of technically his employees. Afterall, he was running the show around here. Still, what did she really expect, he was a busy man, running the entire legal aspect of this district, she was just one of a dozen assistants.

Donna sent him another smile as they shook hands, as if alluding that it was ok he wasn't aware of her existence before today.

Dennis cleared his throat. "So, you're working for Harvey now?"

"Seems so."

"Let me know if he gives you any trouble, I can always have you transferred to my own desk." Cameron smiled down at her, showcasing all his pearly whites, and Donna tilted her head slightly at him.

"Thank you, but I don't plan on getting any trouble, or backing down. I love a challenge."

"So do I." Denniss remarked out loud. He wondered if that came off much flirtier than he intended, and got a response to his own question when Donna blushed slightly, and her white freckled face flushed a rosy red hue that answered the other question that was on his mind earlier.

She was definitely a redhead.

Donna simply let out a tiny laugh, before sitting back down into her chair, signalling the end of their conversation.

"Right. Well, Happy to have you part of the team Donna."

"I was-"

"I know you already worked here. But Harvey's my rising star, we work together often. So, it looks like we'll be seeing each other more often."

"I look forward to working with yo-"

"You should meet Bertha, my own secretary. Something tells me you two will be fast friends."

Dennis knocked his fist against Donna's cubicle before turning around, efficiently ending their conversation for good, getting the last word in.

Donna got the message.

Over the next few weeks, Dennis understood the appeal of Donna Paulsen. The way she carried herself, with an air of confidence that made her seem like she knew something that no one else did, the way she spoke, with a hint of mischief in her voice that made him think she was always up to something and the way she moved, with a grace and fluidity that made him feel like she was always in control, all of which added to her appeal to both Harvey's and every one else's eyes, he's sure.

He got it, he just didn't care for it. The rest of the following weeks were more of the same. Harvey drooling over his secretary and his secretary playing cat and mouse with him. And Cameron won't lie he enjoyed it- at first.

He enjoyed seeing the flirtatious side of the hot redhead who, yes, was definitely eye-catching and captivating in her beauty that wasn't necessarily average.

He enjoyed seeing Harvey pull out all the stops. Things he'd clearly learned from Cameron to Sean Connery to maybe his own dad, or some other mix of 50s and 70s gentlemen off the silver screen- all to get the redhead to play ball with him. And Cameron thoroughly enjoyed her shutting him down.

But one month into this new dynamic that had the entire office buzzing with rumors about a potential workplace hookup was enough for Dennis.

Harvey's attention span on women has always been capped at 2 weeks. When his ex-girlfriend from law school showed up she'd distracted him for exactly 4 days before Harvey managed to focus on clients and cases again, not letting the woman divert his attention any longer or interfere with the way he handled his work.

Cynthia the paralegal snagged his attention for a consecutive 72 hours then on and off over the months, and poor Nadia barely got a weekend's worth of the Specter charm. All women didn't interfere much if at all with Harvey's work as his assistant D.A. But this girl.. this girl was different.

And it was pissing Cameron off. She was distracting his protege, having him spend more time at her desk as he uselessly asked for extra copies, helped her carry files that barely needed one person's arm strength let alone two, and he was always aimlessly hanging around the kitchen, just so he could talk to the redhead.

He didn't care for how she seemed to distract Harvey, he didn't care for the inside jokes they'd managed to create, and he definitely didn't care for the million little trips Harvey would make to encroach on his secretary's private space.

But what Cameron absolutely hated was when Donna would give some of her bullshit legal advice, that was all EQ and no IQ. He hated how she managed to be in cahoots with his own secretary, and Cameron absolutely despised learning the fact she managed to sway Harvey into taking her opinion seriously, using all her wiley ways to convince him her tactic against opposing counsel was better than Dennis's original plan.

the girl was butting into their work, interfering with her opinions. Opinions she really shouldn't be voicing as a typical actress turned secretary that Manhattan spits out every day.

He didn't even find out from Harvey himself, the little cocky prick opted to send Donna over with the revised plan of action in the form of finalized legal papers that were going to Judge Selons tomorrow afternoon, officially taking Donna's word over Dennis's.

A god damn glorified secretary was calling the shots.

Cameron bit the inside of his cheek as Donna walked into his office waiting for him to sign the papers off.

He flicked his black pen and slid the papers over to her. Just as she let her hand down to grab them Cameron snapped his palm over the papers, forcing Donna to look up at Cameron's eyes in surprise, as he held the paper hostage for a moment.

"I'm up here, Donna, and you're down there. Remember that," he waived his free hand from high up above to down low below, signifying the realities of the office chain.

Donna narrowed her eyes at him, her wispy bangs moving to the side, "Meaning?"

"Meaning you don't tell me or Harvey how to do our jobs we tell you how to do yours."

Donna blinked, not intimidated by his attempt to assert his dominance over her. "I don't tell Harvey to do anything. You should know more than anyone else that he makes up his own mind." She replied coolly, turning on her heel and walking out of the room.

Dennis scoffed at her dramatic exit. No, he definitely didn't care for Donna Paulsen's attitude or feigned innocence one bit. He thought he'd made it clear in their first interaction that she worked for them not with them but clearly, the redhead didn't get the memo.

So now, watching Harvey rest his body casually against Donna's cubicle, talking to her about one thing or another, for the fifth goddamn time in two hours, Dennis was ready to yell at his protege and tell him to either fuck her five ways from sunday already and get it out of his system, or learn that you don't mix pleasure and business in the workplace. He'd genuinely consider firing Donna if it wouldn't be an incredibly flimsy shot that Harvey would see right through, before quitting in defiance himself. He doubt's the redhead had earned his loyalty to that extent- yet, Cameron bitterly thought, but he knew Harvey would think it was a betrayal from his end, firing the hard working secretary just to keep Harvey on the straight and narrow, insulting Harvey's working ability by going behind his back and over his head in such a cruel way, assuming he couldn't get his head straight without his interference.

Cameron decided to ignore the little star-crossed lovers for now and focus on one of his other employees for once, walking on over to Marissa, the promising lawyer who's had a keen interest in working on immigrant cases.

He talked to her for a good 20 minutes before Harvey and Donna's sideway conversation caught his ear. Dennis stood in the middle of the office, halfway between Donna's cubicle and his own office, eavesdropping while feigning interest in Marissa's file as she took next to him.

"Look, I know nothing about the world of Private Sector Law but," Harvey cut Donna off,

"Can't believe you're admitting to not knowing something."

"But, I think you should stay here. There's a reason Jessica said you need a few more years at the D.A.'s and while I know more than anyone else the appeal of leaving here, you don't want to go about it the wrong way."

"The wrong way?"

"You wanna be a big shot over there you gotta learn how to be one over here."

"I am one over here."

"Are you? Cassnor and Adrien are-"

"Nowhere near as good as me"

"I don't know, they've both graced the front paper."

"So?"

"So, you haven't finished earning all your stripes. Both of them have the exact same edge you do. If they both decide to go gunning for a spot at your old firm, who's to say they can't get a spot?"

"I do. Jessica-"

"Is your personal connection that you don't want to rely on because you want to make it on your own and prove to everyone you don't need favors. That you're the best for the job because you're the best period. Right?"

"Right but-"

"Adiren and Cassnor were both top of their classes at law school. They both have had high profile cases and they both golf every weekend with Skadden at the club. Wanna take guess at what you have that they dont?"

"Brains, looks, Naiomi Campbell's phone number.."

Donna rolled her eyes. "Cameron Dennis's stamp of approval. Stick with the D.A.'s office long enough to learn from one of the best legal minds who has his hand in every pocket in the city."

Cameron smirked slightly at her compliment. He dismissed Marissa by handing over her file and walked over to Harvey and Donna.

"I thought you said he was an as-" Cameron frowned at the sentence Harvey was about to utter before Donna cut him off.

"Mr. Dennis, dragging Harvey away so I can get some work done here?"

Dennis rolled his eyes at her comment. "Yes, I am. Come on kid, we've got places to be people to see." He clasped his hand on his shoulder dragging him away from the secretary's desk.

"Are we going to skip down the street holding hands too?"

"Pipe down Junior. Now tell me all about the Danner case."

As Harvey started his spiel on the murder case, Dennis slyly looked over his shoulder and back at Donna who had her eyes trained on them the entire time. When their eyes met he gave her a brief nod, begrudgingly acknowledging her presence in Harvey's life and what it means for his protege and himself.

He may not like her style, and he definitely doesn't like the sway she has over him. But he does appreciate the fact she's looking out for him as well.

They both are.
