Disclaimer: I don't own Inuyasha
The Inu-Tachi were taking a break when Kagome tells Inuyasha that she needs to head back home much to Inuyasha's irritation.
"What do you mean, No?" Kagome demanded.
"The answer is no. What part don't you understand, wench," Inuyasha said.
Kagome frowned at the half-demon. "You don't tell me what to do. I have a life back home, Inuyasha, plus I need to get more supplies for the journey ahead, so just back off."
"She's right, Inuyasha. We can use the break." Miroku said reasonably.
"Yeah, I can rest and relax," Shippo said, stretching.
"You should also rest as well, Inuyasha after the last battle, you'll need to rest as well." Sango frowned. "We need to stock up on supplies and think about our next move,"
Inuyasha growled and huffed. "Fine, just don't take too long. I don't want Naraku to gather more shards," he growled.
"Yes, Your Majesty," Kagome said sarcastically before she made her way over to Kirara who transformed into her true form who let Kagome ride her. "I'll see you all later," Kagome said before Kirara flew away with Kagome to the village of Edo
(Village of Edo)
Kirara landed near the bone eater's well. Kagome jumped off before she petted Kirara who purred in response. "Thanks, Kirara, I'll be back soon, take care." Kagome smiled before she jumped into the well. The well turned blue with energy as she traveled back to the modern era
(Present Day)
Kagome climbed out of the well and sighed. Happy to be home, she often looked forward to coming home and a chance to relax and take a break from all the hardships of the battles in the feudal era, but she wasn't looking forward to making up her schoolwork.
'I think I need to start bringing my books and worksheets with me.' Kagome sighed before she walked outside.
She saw the shrine. It didn't matter how many times she traveled back and forth. It was almost always nostalgic to see her family's shrine and her own home again. She walked over to her house and opened the back door before calling out.
"Mom, I'm back!" Kagome called out.
"We're in the dining room." called back.
Kagome walked into the dining room to see her family. Grandpa and little brother were sitting at the table across from each other. As her mother Yūka came in with two plates of food, she placed them down in front of her father and son before turning to her daughter.
"Welcome home, Kagome." smiled happily to see her daughter back safe and sound.
"Hey, sis." Sota called out, "How have you been doing?"
"I've been doing fine," Kagome replied.
"Hmm, you've been slaying demons as usual?" Grandpa asked in an amused tone.
Kagome returned the mused smile. "Yes, we have."
"Why don't you sit down and tell us about it? You must be hungry." Yūka said.
Kagome smiled, looking forward to a nice meal. She sat down and began to explain what happened while she was in the past. "Hmm, you battled a dragon?" her grandpa said, his hand on his chin.
"That sounds so cool." Sota said, wishing he was there to see it.
"Well, he was Inuyasha's father's enemy. We were told that it took all of his father's power just to seal him away." Kagome explained.
"So Inuyasha beating him is kinda poetic. That must mean he has come along to defeat a demon that great." Grandpa said.
"Yeah, along with his ego," Kagome muttered.
"I'm just happy that you and your friends are alright." Yūka smiled. Just then, the phone in the kitchen began to ring. "I'll be right back," Yūka said before leaving the room.
"So, how long do you plan to stay?" Grandpa asked.
"A few days, I want to catch up with my friends and my studies along with getting more supplies for the long trip," Kagome answered. "I might also bring my work back in time so I can catch up."
"Good girl, your education is just as important. And maybe I can get some help around the shrine." Grandpa said his grandson has been lazy lately, and his daughter was busy so a few more hands would be a good help.
"Hmm, I guess," Kagome said.
"Father!" Yūka came running in out, getting her family's attention.
"Yūka what is?" Grandpa asked, seeing the horror on his daughter's face. "Did something happen?"
"Sachi, she's…" Yūka tried to say but trailed off as tears fell from her eyes.
"What? What happened?" Grandpa said in worry getting up from his seat walking over to his daughter.
Kagome and Sota looked at each other. They knew who their mom was talking about their aunt Sachiko, her older sister. They didn't really know her that well but had met her and her family from time to time. Kagome remembered her aunt was a businesswoman who usually did a lot of traveling with her family, and she would donate to keep the family shrine in order she wondered what was wrong.
"What happened to Aunt Sachiko?" Sota asked.
Yūka was able to calm down enough to talk. "She and her family were on a trip, and something bad happened. Sachiko and her husband are dead." Yūka covered her mouth and sobbed.
Grandpa helped Yūka into a chair and gently patted the back of her hand to calm her down. "What about their children? Are they alright?" Grandpa asked in concern.
"Your oldest cousin Kaname is currently at the hospital." Yuka sobbed
Kagome and Sota did remember Kaname. He was a very kind and caring person, a little forceful on some things but a good person to be around.
"What about his sister?" Kagome asked.
"She's in the hospital with him. She's the one who called us." Yūka answered.
"Hmm, we should go and see them," Grandpa said, knowing that they should be there. "Did she say which hospital?"
"Y-yeah," Yuka answered.
"Should we go and visit them?" Kagome asked, "Make sure that they're alright?"
"If you want," Grandpa said before turning to Yuka, who was still crying. "I know, I know. I'm upset, too, Yuka, but you need to be strong for her. We all need to be." He was sad over the death of his daughter, but he knew that crying wouldn't solve anything. All they could do was go see Sachiko's kids and support them as much as possible.
Yuka nodded, knowing her father was right. "Alright, then let's go see them." Yuka got up from the chair and walked out of the dining room.
Grandpa sighed before turning to his grandchildren. "You both should get ready," he said before leaving as well.
Sota lowered his head. "I can't believe Aunt Sachiko is dead."
Kagome also couldn't believe it as well. She was hoping to come home and relax before returning to the feudal era to continue her quest for the jewel shards. Now she heard that her aunt was dead and her oldest cousin was in the hospital.
'What a way to be welcomed home…' Kagome thought before she walked out of the kitchen to her room to get dressed.
After getting dressed, the family made their way to the train station and the hospital where Kaname and his sister were on the other side of town, about an hour's trip. Things were pretty quiet during the trip and soon they were at Takashi Hospital. The family soon came to the desk where two staffers sat.
One was a young woman the same age as Yuka, she had long brown hair and blue eyes wearing a blue uniform and the other was a young man who had black hair and wore a black suit and tie.
"Can I help you four?" the female receptionist asked.
"Yes, we're here to see someone, Kaname." Yuka asked. "I'm his aunt Yuka, and this is my father and his cousins."
"Last name?" the male receptionist asked while typing on the computer.
"Higurashi," Grandpa answered
"Hmm… yes, here." the male receptionist said, looking at the computer. "Checked in a day ago. His sister is currently visiting him."
"He's in room 153 on the 3rd floor," he told them.
After getting directions to the room the family of four made their way to the third four and they easily found the room where Kaname was staying. Yuka was hesitant to enter not just her Kagome and Sota as well, but Grandpa patted each of them. Before he entered ahead of them, the family were met by two people. One was a young girl with long black hair tied in a ponytail and light blue eyes, and she wore a blue jacket over a black top with a matching blue shirt and brown school shoes. The second was a young man with a slender build and a feminine appearance. The man had long black hair that was tied into a ponytail as well and was currently in the hospital bed.
"Aunt Yuka?" Sayuri said before standing up.
"Sayuri, is Kaname alright?" Kagome asked
"He's just sleeping." Sayuri said, turning back to her sleeping brother, with a sad look on her face.
"Sayuri, do you mind telling us what happened?" Grandpa asked her.
Sayuri sighed before sitting back down. "You know mom travels a lot and this year was important. She was supposed to go to America for a business trip and she decided to bring the family along. I decided to stay behind but my dad and brother decided to go with her." Sayuri explained before her expression turned grim. "However on their way to the airport, from what Kaname said the car was acting funny and they crashed into a building. The force of the impact killed mom… and dad… but…" Sayuri tried off as she began to cry. Yuka walked over and hugged her niece tight.
Kagome looked at Kaname. "Is he ok?" Kagome asked.
Sayuri got Yuka to let go of her before she turned to her brother. "Doctor says, he's lucky that he didn't get hurt more than he did, a few bruised ribs, a twisted arm and a mild concussion and a dislocated shoulder, Kaname got off easy."
"Man, this sucks." Sota groaned. "Why did this have to happen?"
"There's just somethings that we can't control Sota. Death comes to us whether we expect it or not." Sayuri told Sota. "Once Kaname is out of the hospital, I want to make arrangements for Mom and Dad's funeral." She wanted Kaname to help with the preparations for their mom and dad's funeral.
"I'm so sorry Sayuri." Kagome apologized.
"Hmm." Kaname hummed, getting everyone's attention before his eyes lazily opened to see
"Hey, knucklehead, how are you feeling?" Sayuri asked jokingly.
"Besides feeling like shit, I'm alright." Kaname said
"I'm glad to hear that." Sayuri smiled. At least his personality was still intact. "Oh yeah, I'm sure you noticed, but you have more visitors."
Kaname looked at the four family members. "Gramps, Aunt Yuka, Sota, Kagome, it's nice to see you all again, but I just wish…" Kaname trailed off, looking away.
Grandpa walked over and grabbed Kaname's hand. "It's alright. You and your sister are going through a rough time. I wish I could do something about it."
"Mom, dad… It's supposed to be a simple trip." Kaname groaned, wondering how things could have gotten so far out of hand. "What did the doc say?
"Well, they're going to have to keep you for a week or two." Sayuri answered. "I know you just woke up, but I'm planning Mom and Dad's funeral and once you're out, we can contact everyone about it."
Kaname simply nodded before he turned to his family and decided that they needed to change the subject for a bit. "So, how have you all been?" Kaname asked.
"I've been pretty good. I won my soccer game," Sota answered.
"That's wonderful." Kaname smiled
"I've been keeping the shrine in tip-top shape. I hope you and your family have been doing the same," Grandpa said.
Kaname and Sayuri were part of a branch of their family, and they cared for a shrine much like her family's shrine. Their shrine was made for the sacred jewel, but there's worshiped a dragon god.
"We have," Sayuri answered.
"What do you mean 'we?" Kaname reprimanded
"Hey, I take my job as a shrine maiden very seriously." Sayuri frowned.
Kaname just glared at his sister, knowing that she tends to back off from her duties leaving him and their mother and father to do it while she rarely does anything to help keep the shrine in shape at all.
"Don't be so harsh on your sister Kaname. These two don't always help either." Grandpa smiled, pointing at Kagome and Sota, who looked offended by that.
"That's true," Kaname admitted before glancing at Kagome "So, have Gramps given you a weird present again for your birthday?"
"What do you think?" Kagome asked. "You never gave me a present for my birthday this year."
"I didn't?" Kaname said
"I don't think you did, me either," Sayuri said, thinking about it. "There was an event that we had to do this year, and we couldn't get Kagome a present."
Kaname thought about it and remembered that the Higurashi Elders called him that year, so he couldn't get Kagome a present that fateful day.
"Why don't we make it up to you? Once Kaname's better we'll take you out on the town." Sayuri said, turning to her brother. "Will that be fine?"
Kaname thought about it and nodded. "Fine, that seems fair," he said.
"As long as she's back by a sensible time," Yuka said, which got them to chuckle.
"An announcement to all visitors: visiting hours will be over in 10 minutes." a woman's voice said over the intercom.
"Well, hope you get better brother," Sayuri said
"See you later, Kaname." Kagome smiled
"Okay, it's nice to see all of you. Thanks for visiting me." Kaname smiled
"Just get better and eat right ok?" Yuka said.
Once outside, Sayuri sighed. "Looks like I'm going to be very busy." She already knew things were going to be difficult to deal with. She was going to have to talk to the elders about their parent's funeral preparations and getting some help at the shrine until Kaname was back on his feet, so today was going to be tough
"With your mom and dad gone, Kaname's going to need your help more than ever. You should take your position as shrine maiden seriously," Grandpa told her.
"I know, Grandpa, but one of the things about you and Kaname is that you two are too much of traditionalist stereotypes. Kaname needs to get with the times we're in the 20th century, you know." Sayuri said with her arms crossed.
"Ahhh, youth…" Grandpa shook his head.
"Why don't you all come with me since you came this far." Sayuri offered. "I haven't seen you all in a while, and I want to catch up."
"Are you sure?" Kagome asked.
Sayuri nodded. "We're family, so you can come if you want."
"That sounds nice; it's been a while since you've been to your shrine," Grandpa said
After leaving the hospital, the entire family left for the Higurashi Shrine, where both Kaname and Sayuri lived. They walked up some stone steps. After a minute of walking, they finally reached the top and were met by two stone statues in the shape of two Japanese dragons. They saw a large house that looked to be built in a more traditional way compared to Kagome's house. It was a large rectangular house colored light brown with a black pyramid roof, with a small koi pond on the side with bulrushes along the edges.
"Well, we're here." Sayuri said
"It's just as nice as the last time I was here." Grandpa smiled.
"Yeah, I haven't seen this place in a while. You, your brother, father, and my sister really keep this place in shape," Yuka told Sayuri.
"It's strange. I've never been here before, but I feel like I've been here before." Kagome said as she looked around the place.
"You've been here before. You were too young to remember." Yuka said to Kagome. "Sota was still too young at the time."
"How come we never visited it?" Sota asked, confused. "Don't you think we have come here once in a while up until now."
"Heh, you're not missing much." Sayuri chuckled as she looked towards the house. "Come, I'll make you some tea afterward. I'll give you all the tour."
"That sounds nice." Yuka smiled.
Sayuri gestured for them to follow her inside the house.
After everyone entered the house, while everyone was sitting down, Sayuri was preparing the tea to serve to her guests. The room was spacious, the wall was colored yellow, and a long table was in the center in the room giving it the good view into the yard in the center of was that of a dragon, it's body curling as it ascended.
After a couple of minutes, Sayuri entered the living room with the tea. "Here's the tea, everyone, enjoy." Sayuri smiled, and she gave a cup to each of her family.
"Thank you." Yuka smiled as she took a sip. "This is amazing, jasmine?"
"Yep, one of mom's specialties." Sayuri said as she gave Grandpa a cup.
"Ahh yes, Sachiko knew how to make a mean jasmine tea, just her mother." Grandpa said, taking a sip and smiling. "And the apple doesn't fall far from the tree."
"Heh, thanks Grandpa." Sayuri smiled as she sat down.
"Say, Sayuri, what's with all the dragon statues?" Sota asked curiously. "They are awesome."
"Hmm." Sayuri hummed as she remembered what her parents had told her. "Well you see as you know our house is a side branch of the family, your shrine is the original, the center if you that makes sense."
"Our shrine that once housed the Shikon Jewel?" Kagome asked interested.
Sayuri nodded. "From what parents told me, those from your branch, had separated creating their own branches like that of a tree."
"I didn't know that," Kagome said in surprise.
"Maybe you would if you and your brother would listen to me." Grandpa remarked.
"So how many branches are there?" Sota asked.
"The Higurashi family is comprised of a lot of branches including the main family, but if there's one thing in common they all worship dragons as their guardian deity." Sayuri explained
"Wait a minute, you mean those statues outside and the one in here?" Kagome asked before looking at the statue in the middle of the table. "How come we don't have one?"
"Our branch is the center since it once was where the Jewel of Four Souls was guarded," Yuka answered. "There was no point in us having a dragon deity."
"Woah." Both Kagome and Sota said the same.
"You see what you learn when you actually listen to your family's history." Grandpa folded his arms, dawning a smug smile.
"Ahh, our history is mostly boring anyway." Sayuri waved her hand dismissively.
"Heh, missy, you should show more respect for your heritage," Grandpa said but then sighed. "You're just your mom when she was your age."
"Wait, if all branches make all of us blood-related?" Sota asked.
"No, not all. We all inherit the name, but not all of us are of blood. Many of us are from different backgrounds. My father wasn't of blood. He came from a normal family in which he and my mother chose to take up the protection of this shrine." Sayuri answered.
"I remember your father training to be a priest, and when your mother and I came here, the two immediately hit it off of course your father was very nervous when she was around." Yuka smiled, remembering Sachiko's husband being all jittery and tripping over his words whenever he talked to Sachiko.
"So Kagome, has anything new happened to you lately? Meet any cute boys?" Sayuri asked, causing Kagome to blush
"Oh, there is Inuy-" Sota tried to say, but Kagome quickly shut his mouth.
"Don't you dare." Kagome growled.
"Is that your boyfriend?" Sayuri said with a cheeky smile which made Kagome blush more. "What is he like?"
"He's just a friend," Kagome said.
"Well did anything exciting happen?" Sayuri asked
"Not really." Kagome lied "I'm just trying to get by at school."
"I hear yeah," Sayuri said, but she could tell Kagome was hiding something but chose not to press her, She then gestured to the statue. "This isn't really the statue of our deity, the real statue is in our shrine, You want to see it?"
"Yeah!" Sota said with excitement.
"Sure I would like to see it." Kagome said.
Yuka looked at her father and nodded. "It's been awhile since we've seen the statue huh father?" Yuka asked.
"Hmm." Grandpa nodded, also wanting to see it after all this time.
"Alright," Sayuri said before taking one last sip of her tea. "Wait here for a second. I need to get more presentable," she said before leaving the room. After a few minutes she returned wearing a traditional miko outfit to Kagome. It was just like Kikyo's.
"You look great in that Sayuri." Sota complemented.
"Thanks, although I am not one for too much tradition, I must wear this in respect to our Dragon Deity," Sayuri said.
"So, where's the shrine?" Kagome asked.
"It's just on the other end of the compound, near the lake." Sayuri answered. She gestured to them to follow her as she led them to her family's shrine.
Sayuri led the family across the courtyard, following the stone pattern until they came to a some stone staircase that overlooked a large lake surrounded by cherry blossom trees. In the center of the lake was a wooden building connected to a wooden pier that reached the mainland.
"That's the shrine?" Kagome asked, she didn't expect to see it in the middle of the lake, she almost felt jealous of it.
"Yep, right dap in the center of the lake." Sayuri answered before walking down the steps with the others following behind.
They all entered the building and inside the building was a majestic statue of a dragon.
The dragon was serpentine, its body coiled upright with the way it was looking forward it looked like it was trying to assert its dominance The dragon had 6 arms two sets were connected to wings that were outstretched its mouth was wide open but Kagome and Sota noticed that it seemed to have a second mouth above its head were antlers.
"Woah!" Sota said his eyes widened in pure shock and amazement.
"You can say that again." Kagome said, also shocked but she felt like she had seen it before but then remembered she did come here when she was little.
"This is Slifuria, the Emperor of Dragons." Sayuri introduced.
"Emperor of Dragons?" Kagome asked.
"Indeed, our ancestors worshiped the emperor of Dragons for generations." Sayuri explained.
"Legends say that he hailed both the heavens and hell itself, Slifuria although benevolent it is said that his own rage would consume of the world." Grandpa said.
"Yes, so each year we offer our prayers and offerings to him to prevent it, but I don't really believe in all of that." Sayuri shrugged her shoulders.
Kagome looked at the statue of Slifuria for a minute before she reached her hand out for a mere second. To everyone's surprise, Slifuria's statue began to glow.
"What's going on?" Sota asked in shock, turning to Sayuri.
"I don't know, it's never done that before as far as I know." Sayuri said, in all her time of living here she had never seen Slifuria's statue glow, thinking that maybe Kaname would know.
After a second, Slifuria stopped glowing, Sayuri stepped forward to examine the statue and saw nothing was really wrong with it. "Huh?" She uttered before turning to Kagome who looked away.
"That is quite a phenomenon." Grandpa said, before turning to Kagome he would have guessed that Kagome's sacred powers must have reacted with the statue for some reason.
"Hmmm." Kagome murmured
(Feudal Era: Village of Edo)
Inuyasha and the rest of the group had just returned to the village, Inuyasha had his arms crossed and his arms closed while Sango and Miroku walked behind him with Shippo on Miroku's shoulder.
"Feh." Inuyasha scoffed.
"Would you stop brooding, Kagome will be back soon." Sango said.
"He just didn't want her to leave." Shippo commented which earned him a punch on the head. "Owww!" Shippo shouted, holding his head
"Really Inuyasha." Kaede's voice came as she walked up to them. "I see you all have returned."
"Yeah, yeah." Inuyasha said in a dismissive tone. "So what are you up to hag?"
Kaede frowned at Inuyasha's words but chose to not respond. "I'm currently waiting for a visitor." Kaede told them.
"Who would want to visit you?" Inuyasha asked in a rude tone
"If you must know, it is my son." Kaede frowned.
"Woah, you have a son?" Shippo said in shock.
"Didn't expect to hear that?" Inuyasha remarked with honesty.
"It has been 50 years since you were sealed Inuyasha, so of course I would have had children in that time." Kaede told the half-demon. "A letter from him arrived a few days ago, and he should be here by this afternoon."
"That's nice Kaede." Sango smiled. "So what is he like?"
"Very respectful and take his role very seriously, but he also has the same kind heart as my sister had." Kaede smiled.
"Is he a priest?" Miroku asked.
"Ai, he has established his own shrine with his family." Kaede smiled.
"Lady Kaede!" in a village a man who appeared in his late 20s ran up to the group. "Your son has arrived."
"Ahh, good timing." Kaede smiled, before turning to the group. "You can all join me, but Inuyasha be on your best behavior." she said before walking away from the group.
"Be on your best behavior." Inuyasha impersonated.
"You should show respect to Kaede's son." Miroku admonished
"And he is Kikyo's nephew as well." Sango added in.
"Fine, I have nothing better to do at the moment." Inuyasha relented.
(Modern Era: Hospital)
Kaname was wide awake in his hospital room, thinking back to when he was called to see the Higurashi Elders.
Flashback
Kaname stood before the Higurashi Elders, dressed in a priest outfit. He didn't know what they needed all he knew was that called for him alone leaving his parents and sister out of it. He could tell it must have been important.
"May I know why you called me here?" Kaname asked with respect.
"Yes, I believe that it's time for you to get married." one elder said.
"With all due respect, I don't wish to marry at the moment." Kaname said. "Besides I already have someone I have my eyes on."
"Kaname, you are the first born son of the Higurashi family, as such your duty is to preserve our ways and lead the next generation." another elder said.
Kaname now knew why his parents hadn't attended his mother and father would be against the sudden marriage proposal. "But like I said, I have someone else in mind." Kaname said.
"And who is this someone?" the third elder asked curiously.
Kaname smiled, "My first cousin, Kagome Higurashi."
"Hmm, the one who resides in the original shrine?" the first elder said with some interest. "You wish to marry your own cousin?"
"Regardless, we have already chosen who will be your fiance. She is from a different shrine background from us." the third one told Kaname.
Kaname frowned. "With all due-"
"Enough, the decision has been made." the second elder held up his hand. "In a week she'll be visiting."
"You are dismissed, Kaname." the first elder told him.
Flashback End
Kaname was heavily annoyed after that meeting to the point that he wanted to kill someone, he also had a feeling that Kagome was hiding something from him.
Kaname just sighed, the sooner that he's discharged from the hospital the better, unknown to most, Kaname has some dragon blood in him, giving him a high healing factor along with some other powers.
At that moment Kaname started to stand up and slowly got up from the hospital bed, soon a nurse came in and saw Kaname standing up.
"I see you're standing up." the nurse said, surprised to see him standing up straight.
"Yeah, I'm starting to feel better now." Kaname smiled
"Ah… it's surprising with what you endured. You should be in here for at least a week or 2 before we send you home." the nurse said while looking over the notes the doctor gave her. "Well the doctor will be in here in a second to give you a final examination."
"Sure." Kaname nodded.
Soon a man who looked to be in early 40's, his hair was short and colored black he wore a white coat over a light blue dress shirt with blue pants and brown shoes, he walked over to the nurse as she handed him the clipboard.
"Thank you." the doctor told the nurse before looking at it. "Mr. Higurashi, it seems you are feeling better."
"Indeed, can you call my cousin to pick me up?" Kaname asked
"You're cousin?" the doctor asked.
"Kagome." Kaname answered. "She's probably at my house."
"I'll contact her." the doctor said before leaving the room with the nurse.
Kaname looked out the window, waiting to see his beloved cousin and future wife
Back at the shrine, Sayuri cooked dinner for her relatives and while everyone was enjoying dinner, the phone rang.
"Can you get that Kagome?" Sayuri asked.
Kagome nodded as she walked over to the phone. "Hello? Oh Kaname is all better now." she asked "He's ready to be discharged?"
"Already?" Sota asked in shock.
Sayuri looked over her shoulder. "Alright, tell them I'll be over there shortly." Sayuri told Kagome.
"Oh, he wants me to pick him up really?" Kagome asked in surprise. "I guess?"
Sayuri narrowed her eyes slightly as Kagome hung up the phone. "Sayuri, you want to come along?"
"No thanks," Sayuri said. "Just bring that dummy home."
Kagome could see something was wrong with Sayuri but chose to go. "I'll see you all when I get back," Kagome said as she left the house.
"Huh? I wonder why he asked for Kagome specificity." Grandpa questioned.
"Who knows…" Sayuri frowned. 'Oh brother… you're still obsessed with her?' She and her parents knew about Kaname's unhealthy obsession with Kagome and the possibility of her being his wife, and it was something Kaname and their mother would clash over.
(Feudal Era: Village of Edo)
The group followed Kaede to the edge of the village. They were soon met with a man in his mid to late 30s, he wore a red priest outfit with a spiraling dragon on it, he had long black hair and blue eyes and he had a sword attached to his sash.
"Ahh, Yuto." Kaede smiled as she walked up to her son with her arms open.
Yuto smiled back, holding out his arms, and accepted his mother's hug. "Greetings mother, how are you doing?" Yuto asked.
Kaede pulled away. "I'm doing fine. How are your wife and children doing?"
"They are mostly fine, my wife is taking care of the shrine with my daughter, but my son has run off to join the war." Yuto frowned. "Said he didn't want to be a priest, but a samurai."
"Hmm." Kaede stroked her chin in thought. "I remember you and him being at odds with each other, have you at least tried to contact him?"
"No, we had a big fight, and I told him to never come back." Yuto frowned.
"Yuto!" Kaede frowned with disappointment.
"I know. I instantly regretted it later." Yuto said
"Ahem." Inuyasha coughed into his fist.
Kaede turned to the group, remembering they were there. "Oh, Yuto, I would like you to meet my companions."
Yuto looked at the group, a monk, a demon slayer, and two demons, a full kid demon and… Inuyasha. "So it's true that you were removed from that tree." Yuto simply said.
"Yeah, so what?" Inuyasha remarked.
Yuto sighed. "Well personally when I was younger, I thought the world would be better with you still sealed to that tree."
"Hmph." Inuyasha huffed, he could already feel a small hatred towards him which he knew was valid since at the time Kaede and her family believed that he had betrayed and ended Kikyo's life.
"However, after you've been released from your seal I've been getting letters from my mother explaining what's been happening." Yuto said,
"Hopefully something good." Inuyasha said, leering at Kaede.
"Mostly, but she threw in a few insults and demeaning quotes with it." Yuto answered.
"Grrr." Inuyasha growled at Kaede.
"Sounds about right." Miroku commented.
"Indeed." Shippo nodded sagely
"Hmm." Sango agreed
"She also told me about my late aunt, so I want to hear it from you of all people, is she really a wandering reanimated being?" Yuto asked Inuyasha.
Inuyasha just glared at him but gave him a simple nod. "Yeah, she even gave Naraku the man who forced us to fight the jewel shards." Inuyasha added in.
"You mean these?" Yuto asked before pulling out a few jewel shards, which shocked Inuyasha and the others. "Since my mother told me about the jewel shards, I've been collecting them as well. I found these along a few of my travels."
"Aren't you worried about demons attacking you?" Sango asked.
"Heh, this sword isn't just for show." Yuto said as he drew his blade. It was a black blade with a blue dragon pattern. "This is my blade, Seinaru ryū, the Sacred Dragon. It's made out of special metal used to slay even the strongest demons, I channel my sacred energy through its blade to unleash devastating power."
"Woah." Shippo said, amazed by the blade.
"The metal?" Sango looked at the blade. "Is it Draconium?
"Draconium?" Inuyasha asked.
"I remember some of the elders in my village talking about once or twice," Sango said and began to explain. "A clan who worships Dragons as their Guardian Deity. The Clan is composed mostly of Mikos, Priests, samurai, and ninjas, and from what I heard they have access to weapons created from a strong metal called Draconium."
"My master and father talked about the clan as well." Miroku said. "They are also said to have powerful magic as well."
"Hmm, so all this time you and Kikyo were part of a clan. Kikyo told me that you were orphans." Inuyasha said to Kaede.
"Ai, and that is what I believed as well until my late teens when someone for the Dragon Clan appeared during one of my tasks." Kaede explained. "It was a shame that Kikyo died without knowing of our true heritage."
"Wait, so does that make Kagome a part of the dragon clan too?" Shippo asked.
"Kagome? My aunt's reincarnation?" Yuto asked, remembering his mother mentioning her in the notes she sent.
"Ai, but let's continue this at my hut. You must be wary of your travels." Kaede said to Yuto.
Yuto nodded that he could use the rest and a cup of tea sounded good about now.
(Modern Era: Hospital)
Kaname was currently waiting for Kagome to arrive. Just then a nurse entered the room. "Your cousin is here to pick you up." she said, as Kagome walked in from behind.
Kagome looked at Kaname in surprise; she didn't really expect him to be feeling better. "Hey, Kaname." Kagome said politely.
"Kagome, it's nice to see you." Kaname smiled
"The doctor is finalizing your discharge; he'll be here in a minute." the nurse said, closing the door behind her.
"I'm surprised that you're feeling better…" Kagome said she didn't expect Kaname to already be better. His injuries should have taken a few weeks to heal, almost like how Inuyasha could walk away from a fight one day he's barely able to move. A day or two later he's back in top form.
"What can I say, it's a miracle." Kaname smiled as he told a half-truth
"I guess so, it must be Slifuria's blessing that helped you heal." Kagome said with a small smile.
"That or a beautiful angel." Kaname teased
"Um, thanks." Kagome blushed slightly at being called an angel, but she quickly recovered. "So why did you ask me to come to pick you up instead of Sayuri, Mom, or even Grandpa?"
"I thought I would have time to spend with you. I haven't seen you in many years." Kaname said.
Well, he was right. She barely remembered anything about him. She was planning on returning to the Feudal Era soon, but since her family had a tragedy she should stay a little longer to help them through it and maybe reconnect with Kaname and Sayuri after all they've been through.
"Sure, I would like to get to know you Kaname." Kagome smiled.
After being Discharged from the hospital which Kaname was grateful for, he and Kagome were walking together side by side.
"So Kagome, how have you been doing these days?" Kaname asked
Kagome looked over to the side thinking about the adventures she had back in the feudal era, before she shrugged her shoulders. "Nothing much, just boring old school and dealing with a stubborn friend of mine." Kagome said.
"I see." Kaname nodded, knowing that Kagome was lying to him but decided not to push it, for now. "Did you have any trouble?" Kaname asked
"None in particular." Kagome lied before quickly changing the subject. "But what about you? After all, you did lose your mom and dad in the car crash, it must hurt you to be the only one still here" Kagome said, trying not to be rude.
Kaname frowned, before looking up. "Yeah, I didn't expect that. But Mom and Dad aren't in pain. That's all I can ask for and they are in a better place."
Kagome nodded before changing the subject. "So what do you like to do Kaname?" Kagome asked.
"Reading, taking care of the shrine, chess, shogi, killing time," Kaname answered.
"That's nice." Kagome nodded. It seemed Kaname was bright at what he did. "I like to spend time with my friends, reading magazines and watching movies."
Kaname smiled. "That's wonderful," he said as he wrapped his arm around Kagome before pulling her close to him
"Um, Kaname…" Kagome uttered, feeling a little uncomfortable. "I, you don't need to be this close."
"Well, I see you both are pretty close." a familiar voice said. They turned to see Sayuri with her arms crossed.
"I see you're feeling better, big brother." Sayuri said politely.
Kaname glared at his younger sister as he pulled away from Kagome. "Yes, I am." Kaname said calmly.
"Kagome, you should head back to the house. I just want to talk to my brother about something." Sayuri frowned.
Kagome could feel tension between both siblings before she began to walk. "Thanks for the talk, Kaname. I'll see you later." Kagome said before leaving the two.
Once she was gone, Sayuri just glared at her brother. "Not even five minutes out of the hospital or a day after Mom and Dad are dead and you are already hitting on Kagome." Sayuri frowned.
"It's none of your concern." Kaname said as he walked past his sister
Sayuri grabbed his arm. "You do know that your obsession over her is not healthy, and mom knew that too, she was uncomfortable and you know it. I'm warning you: if you hurt Kagome I'll make sure you join Mom and Dad." Sayuri warned him.
Kaname's eyes turned a crimson red, not liking his own sister's threat towards him, before he calmed himself down.
"Besides, I think she already has someone in her life, Inu something," Sayuri said, remembering how Kagome reacted when Sota mentioned part of someone's name.
"Hmm." Kaname murmured as he continued his way back home.
Sayuri just shook her head. "Oh Kami, why do you have to have an obsession?" Sayuri frowned, knowing that this was just going to be a hell of a week before she followed after her brother.
(Feudal Era: Edo Village)
The gang and Yuto were in Kaede's hut. As the old woman poured her son a cup of tea, Yuto took a small sip and smiled. "Thank you, Mother, your tea is always good."
"You're welcome." Kaede nodded.
"If you don't mind me asking something." Sango asked. "If your clan is composed of mikos, samurais, and ninjas, why would your son run away?"
Yuto placed his cup on the table. "My son didn't exactly like how we conducted our traditions. I wanted him to be a priest much like me and my mother, but he would be more into combat than mastering his sacred powers. But I believe another thing is that we arranged for him a marriage with his sister."
"Really?" Miroku asked. He had known several families, those of wealthy and royal backgrounds who married into their families to keep the bloodlines pure. He would guess that the dragon clan was the same.
"Now that makes sense." Kaede said, starting to understand. "And what did your daughter say?"
"She accepted it with grace, for the family." Yuto answered.
"But your son outwardly spoke against it, and you both got into a tiff before you told him to get lost right?" Inuyasha said.
"That's a crude way of saying it, but yes." Yuto frowned.
"Yuto, forcing two siblings who don't love each other into marriage is something that no one should do." Kaede said, unknown to Yuto, his daughter had sent her a letter about the situation a long time before talking about how she was in love with a ninja, but Yuto and the elders were forcing her to do what she didn't want to do. If Kikyo were not dead but living now she would be against what they were forcing on them.
"Hmm, I know I was forceful on their mother but I was only thinking about our family." Yuto said.
"Or just thinking about your standards." Inuyasha huffed.
Yuto glared at Inuyasha for his jab. "A demon like you wouldn't understand our clan or our family."
"You got something to say?" Inuyasha said
Yuto just scoffed before drinking the rest of his tea, ignoring Inuyasha. "I'm going for a walk, thanks, mother." Yuto said before leaving the hut.
"Way to go, Inuyasha," Shippo said before Inuyasha bonked him on the head. "Ahh!"
"Hmm, I don't side with Inuyasha on his words but what he has stated is mostly true." Kaede said with her eyes closed. That shocked everyone, even Inuyasha. "I love my son. However, I don't completely agree with how the dragon clan handles certain things, which is one of the reasons why I remained here while my son left for that clan. and if your ways don't live up to their standards, they will force it upon you, that is why my grandson had left because he wanted freedom to not just pursue his own goals but find his own love as well."
"That sounds horrible, being forced to marry your family member just to preserve a bloodline." Sango said.
"Yes, a forceful love is something no one should have to experience." Miroku closed his eyes.
"Hmph." Inuyasha huffed as he began to walk out of the house.
"Where are you going, Inuyasha?" Sango asked.
"None of your business." Inuyasha said as he left.
"He's going to see Kagome." Sango said, already seeing right through him.
(Modern Era: Higurashi's Branch Shrine)
After coming back home and saying hello to his relatives, Kaname immediately went to his room to rest.
Kaname began thinking about Kagome as well as the darkness that will appear in her future.
'Kagome, stay safe' Kaname thought
A knock came from his door.
"Who is it?" Kaname asked.
"It's me, Kaname." Kagome's voice came from the door.
"Kagome!" Kaname said as he opened one of his eyes while still lying on his bed
"Can I come in?" Kagome asked.
"Of course." Kaname replied
Kagome opened the door and stepped in. "I wanted to tell you that dinner is ready if you want some." Kagome told him.
"Thank you, dear." Kaname smiled, "I'll be there in a moment."
"Ok." Kagome said before leaving the room.
Meanwhile the entire family was having dinner when Kagome arrived.
"So, did you tell him?" Sayuri asked
"I did. He said that he'll be there in a moment." Kagome said as she relayed his reply,
"Good." Sayuri said in a plain tone.
"Is something wrong?" Yuka asked.
"No… it's just me and my brother who are going to have to pick up the slack around now that our mom and dad are gone, and dealing with the politics in this family is a bitch." Sayuri frowned.
"Young lady, watch your mouth?" Yuka remarked.
"Sorry." Sayuri said.
"I didn't know they had politics." Sota said.
"Trust me, you're better off not knowing." Sayuri said grimly.
Kagome just looked at Sayuri. She wondered what the politics were. From what she heard in Sayuri's tone, they must have been bad, she felt bad for both Kaname and Sayuri and their parents having to deal with them.
"Ahh, I have to agree that the politics of our family are… complicated." Grandpa said.
"Is that why we don't know much?" Kagome asked,
"Part of it." Kaname answered as he walked in.
"Glad you finally decided to join us." Sayuri said.
Kaname just rolled his eyes before he sat at the table, taking a seat next to Kagome.
"I'm still shocked that you are already out of the hospital." Sota said, looking at Kaname.
"Hmm, yeah… you did survive a car crash. You shouldn't be standing up." Yuka said she wasn't an expert in medicine or anything medical but Kaname shouldn't have been ready to be released.
"I'm fine." Kaname smiled
"That's saying something." Sayuri muttered under her breath.
"I've been in a car crash for nearly a month before I could even leave the hospital." Grandpa said with his eyes closed. "But I guess you can say he was lucky to be able to move."
"Let's forget about my brother and eat; can't let it go to waste," Sayuri said.
"Indeed. We can't let this delicious meal go to waste." Kaname smiled.
The family began to eat their dinner. As she ate, Kagome couldn't help but notice Kaname looking at her occasionally. For some reason she felt a little uncomfortable, or he was just eager to reconnect with her and the family.
"Kagome, maybe I could see you around the shrine after dinner?" Kaname offered.
"Ummm." Kagome hesitated.
"I don't think we can stay for too long today. And Sota and Kagome have school tomorrow." Yuka said.
"Hmm, that is true, and I can't leave our shrine unattended for too long either." Grandpa added. "Plus don't you two need to plan your mother and father's funeral?"
"That is right. We need to start on that soon." Sayuri nodded. "With mom and dad gone, we're in charge of looking after the shrine."
Kaname frowned but could see their point but could also tell that they were hiding something that concerned Kagome
"This just in." a voice came from the living room.
"Did you leave the TV on Sayuri?" Kaname asked, a little annoyed.
"No, I didn't." Sayuri said.
"Oh, that was me. I was watching my stories, and I forgot to turn it off. I'm sorry." Grandpa apologized.
"We are looking at a bank robbery. Several of the robbers outside seemed to be in a standoff with a… it appears to be a teenager with long silver hair and dog ears?"
Kagome's eyes widened. She jumped out of her seat and rushed into the living room with her family after they all looked at the screen and saw Inuyasha standing in front of several bank robbers with an annoyed look on his face.
"Either that kid is brave or stupid to do that." Sayuri frowned.
Kaname frowned as for a brief moment, he felt Kagome's energy fluctuate, meaning that she knew who this kid was and judging from his appearance, he had demonic blood
"Hey it's Inuyasha!" Sota said.
'Inuyasha? Why does that name seem familiar?' Kaname thought,
"Inuyasha?" Sayuri arched an eyebrow.
"Kago-" Yuka uttered but saw Kagome was already gone.
"Aunty, Grandpa, is there something you aren't telling us?" Sayuri asked.
Kagome ran out of the house and made her way to where Inuyasha was, but it will be awhile before she could find where he was. 'Damn Inuyasha! Why can't he just listen and stay in the Feudal Era like I said.' it wasn't Inuyasha who was worried about it. It was the people around him she was sure Inuyasha wouldn't kill anyone, even the bank robbers, but since he was half demon, being out in the open would gather lots of unnecessary attention.
(Several minutes earlier)
Inuyasha was currently looking for Kagome, he had checked her house and found she and her family weren't at their home. Not feeling like waiting around he decided to track her down luckily, he was able to find her scent, so for the next hour he moved through the city avoiding attention and hoping he would avoid her yelling at him.
Inuyasha landed on the roof of a mid-size building, he took a whiff of the air and his nose wrinkled a bit. "Tch, I can never get used to how bad Kagome's world stinks." The bad smell made it difficult to track Kagome's scent but he knew that she had to be in the area. "What could she and her family do to come all the way out here?"
His thoughts were interrupted when he heard an explosion nearby, the half-demon looked to see a building that was about the same size as the one he was on only a bit tall, he saw a huge cloud of smoke cover the front of the building.
"Hmm." Inuyasha hummed, deciding to put his search for Kagome on hold and check this out.
Out of the smoke came four men in black jumpsuits and black ski masks with machine guns. Inuyasha looked from the rooftop and arched his eyebrow seeing what these people were wearing he would have to guess they were modern-day bandits.
"Where is he?" one of the robbers questioned. "We're going to be caught!"
"Yeah, where's our getaway driver?" the 2nd robber asked.
"He should be here any second." the leader said.
Deciding he had waited enough, Inuyasha leaped down and landed in front of the robbers, startling them as they pointed their guns at him. "What the hell, where did you come from?" Robber 4 demanded.
"Heh." Inuyasha huffed as he turned to face them with his arms crossed. "It seems some things don't change over 500 years."
"500 hundred years? Who the hell are you?" the leader demanded, as he looked over Inuyasha up to his dog eyes and his robes and sword. "You don't look like a cop. You look more like something out of a teenage girl's fantasy or a kabuki play."
"Are you some sort of mutant freak?" the 2nd robber questioned.
Inuyasha's face turned sour, he didn't like being called a freak now he was going to make them hurt. Just then, a helicopter appeared overhead. The cameraman looked out the window and began to broadcast what was happening.
Inuyasha grinned while cracking his knuckles. "This shouldn't take long." for what he sees, these humans were pretty weak.
"Last chance freak move!" The leader pointed his machine gun at Inuyasha.
"You'll have to make me." Inuyasha dared.
The leader began to fire at Inuyasha who dodged out of the way faster than the human eye could see, the leader looked at where the half demon once was the next thing he knew an elbow connected with his face breaking nose as he slid across the ground and into the wall of the bank.
Inuyasha pulled his arm back and kept a straight face. The remaining three robbers looked at their downed leader whose nose was leaking blood like crazy, staining his clothes.
"You bastard!" the 2nd robber shot a few rounds from his handgun, Inuyasha jumped into the air before landing in front of the man grabbing his wrist with the gun and twisting it, causing him to yell in pain as he dropped the gun onto the ground before the half-demon kneed him in the gut causing the robber to cough up blood before he threw him across the street into a car as the alarm went off.
"Heh, this isn't even a workout," Inuyasha said, thinking that Feudal Era bandits were more of a challenge than modern-day ones.
Bang!
"Gahh!" Inuyasha gasped in intense pain; his bad feeling was on fire as blood squirted out of his back and only the ground.
"Hah, that's what you get, weirdo!" the 3rd robber grinned, pointing his gun at Inuyasha.
"Nice shot." the 4th robber grinned.
"You're going to have to do better than that to kill me." Inuyasha said; getting over the pain he turned to the two, and he was very mad.
The two robbers looked at Inuyasha in disbelief, shocked that he was still alive. "What the fuck are you?" the 3rd robber cursed.
"Tch, I have better things to do than play with you bandits." Inuyasha scoffed, decided he wasted enough time dealing with them
The two robbers fired multiple rounds at Inuyasha, who easily evaded the bullet leaping and dodge while making his way towards the two, once closing the distance Inuyasha delivered an uppercut to one of their chins sending the robber flying a few feet into the air before landing on the ground with a thud, the last robber tried to run away which Inuyasha grinned shrugging his shoulders and immediately got in front of him and punched him right in the jaw knocking out a few of his teeth sending him skitting to a stop right next to his comrade dropping his gun the process.
Inuyasha walked over to the downed robbers and huffed. "I was hoping modern bandits would be more of a challenge." he simply said as he looked down at the handgun; he crouched down and picked it up. "What a weird weapon, but it sure packs a punch, unlike an arrow."
Inuyasha felt wind currents pushed down on him, he looked up and glared seeing a flying machine landing down not too far from him. But that wasn't it he was soon surrounded by a ground of people, men, women and children. A man dressed in a weird outfit pushed through the crowd with another person who looked to have a weapon and was aiming it at him. He tensed up, ready to defend himself.
"Man, that was so awesome!" a young boy cheered. "Are you a superhero?"
"What's with a crazy outfit? Do you work at a shrine?" a young girl asked.
"Are those ears real or just a prop?" a man asked.
"Are you single?" a teenage girl asked.
Inuyasha looked at all of the people. He expected a few thanks or for them to be afraid. But they weren't any of that. "Young man?" Inuyasha turned to the weird man who had some kind of torch in his hand up to his mouth.
"Huh." Inuyasha said, startled
"Who are you? Where are you from? How are you so strong and fast? Why didn't those bullets affect you as much? What are you?" the reporter asked
"Huh?" Inuyasha looked at the reporter confused. Before he could say anything his nose picked up Kagome's scent, ignoring all the people he looked around. "Sorry, I have no time for this." Inuyasha said as he jumped high into the air, shocking everyone as he landed on the roof looking back down at the now raving crowd. "Modern humans are weird." Inuyasha muttered subconsciously, placing the handgun into his sash before he made his way to where Kagome was.
Kagome raced down the street, hoping to reach Inuyasha and she was going to say 'Sit' 1000 times not just for coming to her era but also revealing himself to the world as a half-demon.
"Oh, Inuyasha!" Kagome growled.
"Kagome!" Inuyasha's voice rang out causing the young girl to stop in her tracks, the half-demon landed in front of her, but the young girl grabbed his hand and pulled him into a nearby alleyway.
Once they were out of sight, Kagome glared at Inuyasha. "Sit! Kagome shouted at the top of her lungs.
Inuyasha slammed face-first into the ground, groaning and twitching in pain. "Ahhh, what was that for?" Inuyasha moaned.
"For being a baka, I told you to stay in the past, and now people have seen you are a half-demon and not only that my cousins have seen you as well!" Kagome frowned, hand on her hip.
Inuyasha slowly got to his feet, Kagome continued to glare at him but then saw he had taken the handgun from the crime scene and was in his sash next to his Tessaiga. "You took evidence?!" she shouted but covered her mouth. She didn't want anyone to hear her.
"Evidence?" Inuyasha questioned while frowning.
"The handgun? The one the robbers shot you with." Kagome remarked, pointing at it.
Inuyasha looked down and saw he still had the weird weapon from before. He must have placed it in his sash by accident. "Hand…gun? Is that what this is called?" Inuyasha asked, taking the gun out of his sash and looking at it and he accidentally pointed it at Kagome.
"You sit!" Kagome shouted, and once again Inuyasha slammed face-first into the ground. "Don't point that at me, you idiot!"
"Will you stop that!" Inuyasha looked up at Kagome in anger.
"No, I won't. Not as long as you point it at me." Kagome shouted at him, her eyes filled with fury
"Keh, fine, whatever wench." Inuyasha scoffed.
(Higurashi Branch Shrine)
After Kagome had left, Yuka and Grandpa decided that since Sayuri and Kaname had seen Inuyasha on TV, they would need to come clean, but Kaname seemed to have vanished which Sayuri guessed he followed after Kagome, but she listened to what her aunt and grandfather had to say.
"Ok, woah…? Sayuri said her mind was blown by what they said. "You're telling me that Kagome has been traveling back and forth between our era and 500 years in the past, which only happened on her birthday and this Inuyasha is the one who fought and killed our ancestor Kikyo who is also the past life of Kagome?" Sayuri said with disbelief it was like she was reading a fantasy novel.
"That's pretty much what Kagome told us, but I'm sure she left out a few things," Grandpa told her. "But it wasn't Inuyasha who killed Kikyo. He and Kikyo were tricked into fighting each other in order to corrupt the Shikon Jewel by a demon known as Naraku who by Kagome's words, was a human bandit named Onigumo."
"Hearing this is really something. At least we know that the dog demon was not to blame." Sayuri nodded. "But, with what happened on the news, he definitely attracts attention if he goes out in public."
(Higurashi Shrine)
Inuyasha landed within the shrine with Kagome on his back, once she climbed down from his back. The half-demon turned to see Kagome still had a sour expression on her face.
"Are you still pissed?" Inuyasha questioned.
"Of course I am. Not only did you not listen to me but now everyone in Japan saw you." Kagome frowned.
"Heh, so what? I stopped those bandits." Inuyasha scoffed, thinking he did nothing wrong.
"Grr, not only that, I learned not long ago that my aunt and uncle died." Kagome said with her head slightly lowered.
Inuyasha's expression softened a bit at hearing that some of Kagome's relatives were dead. Before he saw anything he smelt the air and turned to the entrance to the shrine. "Grr." Inuyasha growled.
This got Kagome's attention. "What's wrong?" she asked.
"I smell a dragon, no also a human too?" Inuyasha growled, while on the way to Kagome's home, he could sense something following them. "You might as well come out."
Kagome looked at the gate, wondering what Inuyasha was talking about a dragon? But as far as she knew demons such as dragons didn't exist in her era. Inuyasha got in front of her and immediately drew out his Tessaiga.
"One last chance, come out or I'll make you." Inuyasha warned.
Just then to Kagome's surprise, Kaname stepped out. "Kaname?" Kagome uttered, she was surprised to see her cousin and she wondered how did he get here so fast.
"You know him?" Inuyasha asked Kagome.
"He's my cousin, remember when I said my relatives died?" Kagome asked, to which Inuyasha nodded. "He's their son."
"So your relatives are dragons?" Inuyasha questions.
"Inuyasha, no, my relatives are human." Kagome frowned, but she realized something. "Inuyasha, please put the sword away."
Inuyasha just looked at her and then back at Kaname who had a natural expression, he knew that he smelt this cousin of Kagome's smelt like that of both a dragon and a human and there was something off about him.
"Or else do you want me to say the words?" Kagome threatened.
Inuyasha's eyes widened for a second out of fear before he reluctantly placed Tessiaga back in its scabbard. Kagome turned back to Kaname and rubbed the back of her head. "I guess I have a lot of explaining to do." Kagome said,
"Perhaps." Kaname said
"Hmph." Inuyasha huffed, crossing his arms.
Kagome glared at Inuyasha but chose to ignore him. "This is Inuyasha, a friend of mine." Kagome introduced. "And Inuyasha, this is my cousin, Kaname. He comes from a side branch of our family."
"And he smells like a half-demon, and I thought demons didn't exist in your time." Inuyasha remarked in a rude tone
Kaname slightly narrowed his eyes, "You sure are an impolite fellow." Kaname said,
"So what?" Inuyasha also slightly narrowed his eyes.
"Inuyasha, he's my cousin and you should give him some respect." Kagome glared at him.
"Hmm, fine wench." Inuyasha rudely replied
"You should also speak more politely to my cousin as well." Kaname said
"Shut up. I don't need you to tell me anything." Inuyasha frowned.
Kaname then glanced at Kagome. "So Kagome, mind telling me the story?" Kaname asked
"Alright, let's go inside," Kagome said as she gestured for Kaname to enter the house.
Kaname smiled at Kagome as he walked past her, while Inuyasha just glared at him. He could feel something was off with Kaname and it had something to do with Kagome. "Are you coming to Inuyasha?" Kagome asked.
"Hmph." Inuyasha scoffed as he followed the two inside the house.
Kagome could tell from the tension between the two that it was going to be bad, and she couldn't get what was wrong between them and what Inuyasha had said. Kaname, a half-demon that didn't make sense at all. Was there more to Kaname and her family then she realized, however, that would have to wait right now. She would need to explain everything to Kaname.
A/N: This is a new Inuyasha with some of its canon with the rest of it AU that I'm working on. We'll be including more history on the Higurashi Family as well as their Ancestor's history, including Kikyo's and Kaede's family.
Co-A/N MiracleKing: I hope you all enjoyed this chapter, we gave some history into Kagome's family and gave Inuyasha something to do and now people know about him but they don't know he's a half-demon and he took a gun so that's something.
