Chapter 4

I crouch down, in perfect form, of course. My brother, Thrushpaw, faces me, lashing his tail through the leaves. Mouse-brain.

I leap over him, surprising him, before landing on his back. I'm to heavy for him to hold up on his own, so he's practically flattened. He taps me twice with his tail.

"I give up.." I smirk, stepping off.

"Another point to me. Thrushpaw, you really need to train more, you know?"

"I know." He mutters. "It's just, really hard to be you right now. It's like you know everything!" I shake my head, feigning disappointment.

"I just practice. Now get up, I think Lousesong and Truestep are calling us." I look to our mentors. They are, so we trot over, Thrushpaw's pelt covered in dirt.

"I think that's enough for today." Lousesong meows, looking my brother up and down. "You two, head back to camp and eat something. We'll stay behind a bit longer."

I nod, prancing off into the woods after Thrushpaw, whom had already raced ahead of me.

"Tired, huh?" Fawnspark's voice scares me. I look to my sides, behind me, and even above me. Nowhere.

'Where are you..' I think, still frantically searching for the source of the mew.

"In your thoughts."

'Oh, ha, ha, very funny. Could you at least materialize next to me? I prefer to see the cat I'm talking to.'

"Fine." I see Fawnspark to my right. "But we're still communicating through thoughts. I don't want you looking like you're insane when you talk to either of us."

'Deal. I'll take not looking insane in front of my friends any day.' I nod to the spirit. Thrushpaw is far ahead of me, so I'm not worried about him seeing me.

"You might want to sit down for this."

'If I sit down for too long, Lousesong and Truestep will catch up and see me spaced out talking to a spirit in my head. What part of that doesn't make it sound like I'm cuckoo in the noggin?'

She sighs. "Okay then. Fallowpaw, you're apart of a prophecy."

'Unsurprising.' I lie, but my mind, hidden from her, is reeling with questions. What prophecy? What role do I play? Who else is involved? Am I alone?

What is my destiny?

I don't dare voice my questions. It's confusing enough without it, but Fawnspark sees my questioning expression, and answers some of them for me.

"There are others too, don't worry. You'll find out who later, it's not important right now."

'Not important now? Now? When you're telling me everything else?'

"Oh, hush Fallowpaw. StarClan has many plans. Some just aren't ready to be revealed yet. Farewell, and good luck. We'll send the prophecy when you're ready."

'When I'm ready? What does that m-' I'm cut off as her spirit disappears from my side.

"When you're ready." Her voice fades from my mind.

Screw being ready, I hate the anticipation. Looking around for any hints of this 'prophecy' stuff, and realize I'm at the camp entrance. I sigh, padding in. I'm not beat up, but Dawnpaw looks at me weird. Theushpaw's beside him. They better not have been talking behind my back. Fox-hearts.

I pad over, sitting next to the first aforementioned brother of mine. "What are you two gossiping about now? You know you have to let me in on this kind of stuff."

"Nothing!" They quickly chime. Too quickly. I look them up and down suspiciously.

"Alright, what is it? Girl trouble? There's no cat that'd accept you two knuckleheads as a mate, you know that, right?" I meow sarcastically. Dawnpaw sighs.

"Close. Thrushpaw's decided to fawn over a random shecat in ShroomClan. He met her on the border a few days ago." He shakes his head, clearly disappointed.

"Her name is Vinepaw." Thrushpaw sighs, daydreaming already. I bat his ear, hard.

"Shut up, will you? We don't need to hear about this Vinepaw's quote on quote dreamy looks and shining eyes. Now go sleep off this horrid daydream, or day-nightmare of yours." He looks down, realizing at least some of his mistakes.Dragging his paws along the leafy ground, Thrushpaw mopes his way over to the apprentice's den.

I look back to Dawnpaw. "Now, what's your deal?" I tap my paw impatiently.

"I know you won't believe me if I tell you." I roll my eyes. I've seen enough weird stuff, I think I can handle some basic Clan drama.

"Go on."

"Fine." He takes a breath, sighing when he exhales. "I think some shecat has a crush on me." I lean in, awaiting their name. "Riverkit's been doing everything to be with me lately. Offering to clean the elder's den, asking for stories from me. I know we're almost the same age, but it just feels.. weird. She's like a sister to me." I recede.

"Surprisingly, that makes sense. I don't think I've ever seen you even look at a shecat for too long. Let me deal with letting her down. I'll at least do it gentler than Thrushpaw." I chuckle softly, standing after a moment. "I'm gonna head to sleep. 'Night, Dawnpaw." I murmur, yawning slightly. He nods in return, and I leave.

End.
