The next three weeks were busy for Annie. She worked multiple 12 hour shifts in a row. She was enjoying her day off when Richard contacted her to tell her that Fleur was in labor. She quickly changed into her healer robes and stepped through the floo. She assisted with the birth for about three hours until Richard instructed her to go keep the family updated.
She walked towards the waiting room to see all the Weasley family waiting for news. When she first got here only Molly and Arthur were here but now Percy, George, Ron, Ginny, Harry and Hermione were here too.
"Is the baby here yet, Healer McCartney?" Molly asked.
"No, the baby hasn't arrived yet, Mrs. Weasley."
"Call me Molly, dear."
Percy scolded. "Act professional mum. She's at work not flirting up a storm with George."
Annie pinched the bridge of her nose in frustration as George chuckled. "You're in for it now, Perce."
"I wasn't in the mood for your fucking judgment on the second anniversary of my mum's death and I'm not in the mood for your fucking judgment today either when I'm running on five hours of sleep every day for the last three weeks!"
George snickered as Molly said. "Oh, you poor dear. Sit down next to George and I'll go chat with Richard."
Before she could respond Molly was off towards the delivery room.
"Come on, sit down next to me as my mum said," George said, gesturing towards the chair next to him.
She hesitated for a second then plopped down in the chair next to him. She conjured a pillow and fell asleep next to him.
A few minutes later, her pillow shifted and her head landed on George's shoulder and he smiled.
A few minutes later, Bill and Molly walked out of the delivery room.
"It's going to be a while, not only because the assistant mid healer is fast asleep on my younger brother's shoulder," Bill laughed.
George stifled a blush. This is probably the closest he'll get to Annie for a while.
"Just how long have you fancied her, George?"
"Three years. I was terrified that something would happen to her while she was on the run."
Bill nodded. "So, you never had the chance to tell her?"
"I thought it was obvious to her when I invited her to your wedding. Merlin, she looked beautiful in that purple dress."
Bill asked. "How did you ask her to the wedding?"
"What do you mean?"
"Some women like us to be more clear."
"I just asked her to be my plus one and she happily agreed."
Bill shook his head. "She probably assumed you asked her as a friend."
"I didn't. I was ready to tell her how I felt about her but Fleur's cousins started to flirt with me and Fred. The charm didn't really work on me."
"It doesn't work on someone who is already interested in someone else," Bill said.
George said. "I quickly excused myself from them to find her but by the time I found her the Death Eaters arrived."
"So, she's never told you why she left my wedding in such a hurry?"
"Not yet. Why has she told you?"
Bill shrugged. "It's her story to tell, not mine."
A while later, Annie woke up and noticed that her head was on George's shoulder. "Oh, I'm so sorry. I was exhausted as you know."
"It's fine, Belle."
"How long was I asleep?"
"About an hour and a half."
She nodded and stood up.
"Hey Belle?"
"Yes?"
"How would you like to go do some karaoke once you get more rest?" he suggested casually.
"I'd like that, George."
He smiled. "Now get back to making me an uncle."
"Bill and Fleur already did that," she said cheekily.
"You know what I mean, Belle."
She smiled and walked back to the delivery room as Bill followed her.
About four hours later, she walked out again. The only ones waiting were Molly, Arthur and George.
"Is my first grandchild here?"
Annie smiled. "She is."
"I have a granddaughter?"
"You do, mum," Bill said grinning, joining Annie.
Molly smiled. "Can I see her?"
Bill nodded and led his parents to Fleur's room. Annie sat down next to George again.
"Are you hungry? we could go down to the cafeteria?" George suggested casually.
In response, Annie's stomach growled loudly.
"I guess that answers my question," George laughed hopping up.
Annie revealed. "I haven't eaten since before I got the floo call from Richard."
"Then it's a must."
They walked to the cafeteria in a comfortable silence.
"Working late again, Annie?"
She blushed. "Yeah. I had a long delivery."
"Okay, who's your friend?"
"This is George Weasley."
"It's nice to meet you dear."
"You too."
Annie got her food and sat down.
"What made you become a healer?" George asked, sitting down across from her with a cup of tea.
"Honestly, I had no idea what I wanted to do after Hogwarts. I had changed my mind from when I had my career advice session with Professor Sprout in fifth year. I took a few months off. I started healer training in the US in November 1996. I transferred to St. Mungo's in March. Then we reconnected in May."
"Yeah, we did."
"I hid in the muggle world with Nellie until the Battle. I was mostly in the infirmary but I did duel a few death eaters."
"You probably kicked their arses?"
She giggled shyly. "I did."
"Do you want kids someday?" he asked.
"Someday but not anytime soon. How about you?"
"Yeah, not anytime soon. I'm still young. And I don't want seven either, maybe two."
Annie nodded. "Yeah, as much as I love having a big family I want a small family eventually."
"That's exactly how I feel," George said.
Annie nodded. "You probably went to visit Fred's grave today, didn't you?"
"I did. It never gets easier," he sighed, running a hand through his hair.
"Maybe next year I can join you if you'd like," she suggested with a shrug.
"That would be nice."
They finished their food and left the cafeteria.
