"Ey, Jim, are you busy?"
"Blake? I didn't expect you to call back so soon…"
"Well, I have good news. Remember that deal I told you about with Alison and his horror attraction shtick?"
"Yes, and what about it?"
"He agreed. I'm hired now!"
"Lord, have mercy on your soul."
"What, are you going to be boring? Can't even be happy for an old friend?"
"Do you seriously want to work on that corporation's new project after what we've been through?"
"Been through what? I wasn't the one who put that boy's head into the animatronic's mouth! It's not on me for assuming that Mike actually knew what the hell he was doing."
"We all could've stopped this, but none of us did…It's a shared responsibility."
"Oh, stop it, there's no point dwelling on the past…Are you still afraid of that robot monster or something? It hasn't appeared for more than a decade now; there's no point in thinking about it whatsoever."
"Blake, this isn't worth it…There is something about that company that poisons everything it touches. We both saw it, and we know how its business ended. Come to the chapel next time you can, and we will talk about it…My door is always open."
"Sorry, Jim, but I'm not changing my mind! It's an opportunity, and I'm not going to refuse it just because you feel sentimental over some shit that happened more than a decade ago."
"It's not about sentiment. It's about our mistakes that we can't simply undo. I was a part of it, you were a part of it…And unlike Mike and Lamar, God gave us a chance to repent. We can't waste it."
"And I'd say realizing my full potential in this life is anything but a waste. I'm simply helping create something fun for the people of New Harmony to engage in. Surely that can't be bad?"
"You know exactly who runs this show and his track record."
"Alison? I talked to him; he's a chill, friendly guy. Just because his previous attempt at starting a business didn't end up well doesn't mean he can't do better now. Jesus, you really need to get out of the past, won't do you any good."
"Perhaps we could talk about this together? It's been a while since we met…I don't want you to do something so self-destructive.
"I'm in New Harmony now and probably for a while…Need to help salvage all that was left inside the old warehouses and that last pizzeria they tried to open for the attraction. If you can come to pay a visit…Sure. Maybe when you see what I'm actually doing, you'll realize that it's nothing bad whatsoever."
"I have a job to do here."
"Not even for a few days? I'm sure you can do your Bible-thumping stuff here as well."
"I'll think about it, Blake…But only for your sake."
…
"Another one?"
"Yes, thanks…"
The visit to New Harmony came quicker than Jim expected. He was able to get a break from his priestly duties; others supported his desire to help another and did not stand in his way. Jim used this time to travel to this smaller town and visit his friend. They met at a cafe where Blake invited Jim to share a few drinks. Blake didn't change as much as Jim did since the incident; he was still carefree and didn't reflect on his actions. He wasn't afraid to engage in illegal activities when it suited him and not think of the consequences. He didn't take Jim's beliefs and teachings seriously, and sometimes the priest wondered why he still maintained their friendship…Perhaps he believed that he could still turn Blake on a righteous path one day.
"Ah, the red wine. It's been a while since I drank it." The brown-haired man before Jim smiled as he tasted it once again. "And what do you say? Do your church laws even allow you to have a drink from time to time?"
"Yes…And the taste is fine, I suppose." Jim responded quietly.
"Come on, you're not still being gloomy about this? Come on, forget your teachings and just enjoy the fact that we finally got this moment to ourselves." Blake scoffed with disappointment. "You just can't let go of this, can you? As I already said, just because you want to live a dull life doesn't mean I do."
"I'm not going to choose how you live your life for you, but…" Jim sighed. "I worry for you, Blake, genuinely. There are too many valid concerns that people raised about Alison to be ignored. He tried to cover up child disappearance to protect his business, as far as I know."
"And? I can understand him in this; it is not like it's his fault that someone happened to kidnap them at his place…I don't think he'll repeat the same mistakes, but it doesn't matter to me, anyway. That shit is on him, and I…I'll get a good salary, a role in bringing the first full-fledged Fazbear horror attraction to the people of Utah, and hopefully some fame." He was very confident and reckless in his future, and it made Jim worry.
"If you don't want to take my advice, it's your choice, but…"
"Just give it a chance, Jimbo." Blake interrupted him with a reassuring tone. "They already have the building for the attraction not far from here, Fazbear Fright. Alison hopes it will become popular around here; maybe he'll create another one for Hurricane later."
"I don't like it in the slightest…But I will stay around and see how your work is going if you don't mind."
"Going to snitch on me to the police when you imagine anything suspicious?"
"No…Just going to try and steer you from the wrong path."
"Ah, always the same thing with you…Whatever, have it your way. Maybe you'll understand that all of your concerns are misplaced.
Perhaps that will be so…And yet something told Jim that it was foolish to hope for.
