Journal Entry 1
Hi. My name is Jen. You may know that name via my character Jen. I made her to represent me in many ways. And yet, we are so different.
Well, anyway, let me share a bit of myself. I'm five foot two. I identify as a woman. I've worn glasses since elementary. I had hearing aids since I was two. I have dark blond hair and blue eyes. I have been diagnosed with adhd and anxiety. Mostly social anxiety. And I am currently suffering from both depression and a nasty cold right now. Oh, and I'm 27. My birthday is early January.
I'm going to try to do a small personal entry every day. My life flipped upside down in a reality altering way. So this might be my key to sanity.
TT
My life, I don't know, not really great right now. I can do my job just fine. Got a routine. I can do that. But when I'm home, blah. Clothes piled about, sink full of dishes from weeks ago, cats doing their business outside the litter boxes because I haven't changed it. I haven't vacuumed for three months.
And now, I barely left my bed for three days. I only got up to feed my cats and go to the bathroom. If it weren't for having to take some days off because of the dammed cold, my supervisor would've called me by now, wondering where I was.
If one is just staying in one place doing nothing, they could potentially go five days without water. It's been three for me. How much longer before organ damage?
Before I could ponder on the need to stay alive any longer, my two cats got right in my face. Clicking my phone on, I saw that it was 9pm. Hmm, message from my cousin. They were going to stop by in the morning with groceries.
"Din din kitties." Clapping my hands twice, the cats ran to the kitchen. Shooting a thanks via text, I slowly made my way to the little meowers. Less than twenty steps later, I'm left huffing, trying to get enough oxygen into my lungs. "Stupid cold. Alright kitties! I'm feeding you. Yeesh. Quit your whining already."
"Plopping the food bowls down, I pulled out cold and sleep medicine. Don't know if having them together is a good idea or not. I don't care.
Giving into the thirst, I downed the meds with three cups of water. 'There. No longer possibly perishing tomorrow.'
I nabbed my white stuffed cat, Nectar, and plopped back in bed. I'm probably going to sleep for ten hours, on top of the ten from just recently. I was out like a light.
TT
Something isn't right. I know I fell asleep on my bed. So why does it feel like I'm sleeping on cold metal!?
The sensation of waking in a new environment got me up on my feet, looking around in a panic. Orange hallways with blue lighting? Some dark spots coming in my direction. Fast!
Snatching Nectar, I bolted. I don't have any shoes, no glasses and no hearing aids. I'm in my flipping PJs!
Whatever was hunting me, one of them bounded ahead of me, cutting me off. It looked to be a massive, armored lizard, with a glowing yellow forehead. I pivoted to the right, going down a different hallway. Pain lanced through my arms and back. Seems they managed to strike me. The air stinks. Like rotting flesh. I came across that particular stench before, via a deer on the side of a road. Nasty.
Catching an outline of an open door, I threw Nectar in and barely managed to shut the door. I almost got thrown back by the lizards throwing themselves at the door.
There were a few latches connected to the door and wall. Pushing back with all I've got, I managed to lock the door shut.
All that running didn't do me any good. I don't know how long I sat there, hacking up my lungs and trying to not pass out.
I love the Jak and Daxter video games. It's been my main interest for the past five years! Reality trips aren't possible! This is not possible! There is no such thing as metal heads!
I bit my arm. Hard. The dull pain quickly made me focus. Pressing my fingers to the door, I could feel the vibrations of the lizards still scrabbling at the door. I need to find another way out. Looking around, it was just another hallway. And maybe a door at the opposite end.
'My sleeves are ripped and covered in blood. Need to do something about that. Let's see, if I can pull the sleeves off . . .'
I tied the clothes over the open wounds, thankfully they don't look too deep. The blood flow was already sluggish. My back will have to wait. Picking Nectar up, I trundled off, away from the overgrown lizards.
The amount of dust in here suggests that this hallway hasn't been touched for a very long time. There aren't any footprints but my own. Doesn't seem to be any debris in here. Good thing too, cause again, I'm both barefoot and without glasses.
Reaching the door, I placed my hands on the ground. No vibrations. The air smells dusty, no rotting flesh. As limited as my hearing is, I don't hear anything.
The door opened easily. This room is free of dust. It would be empty if not for the wall straight ahead.
The wall has five large stones in a circle. White, purple, red, blue and yellow. There is a spot where there should be one more stone. It has to be green. The Stone of Mar. The last egg of the Precursors.
'Maybe it's not the last egg anymore.'
Even with the obvious dual comets shaped on the surface, they all look so smooth. I shouldn't. But my curiosity is too much. I mean, it's not like I'm a channeler, right?
They lit up like football stadium lights.
Rubbing my eyes as the lights died down, I made out the 'precursor avatar' Jak saw in the games before the reveal in the end of the third game. They weren't staticky blue, they represented the colors of their stones. And they're all talking at once.
"HOLD IT!" The avatars stopped talking and turned their heads in my direction. "That's better. Now, let's start over. One at a time.
TT
"So, let me get this straight. The barrier separating my reality from yours is weaker than the one encasing you to this Temple? Allowing you to snag me from MY BED?!"
White nodded. "Yes."
"Due to the subspecies of your race, the ottsels, they bulloxed the timeline by setting an ongoing loop. Making a certain kid be miserable so many times, you lost count."
Blue gestured. "Yep."
"So now you need my help to get a member of the line of Mar over here to free you."
Yellow crossed its arms. "Absolutely."
"And I'm being put on a mission to ensure that Kor doesn't eat your missing sibling or get blown up."
"Red floated upside down. "Of course."
"And lastly, help defend the world from your corrupted relatives, so you can finally face the ottsels without fear for your safety."
"Purple tilted its head. "Indeed."
"FUCK!"
"Surviving here and bringing the Temple above water will be your basic training. The hatch in that wall will give way to your supplies." And with that, the avatars blinked out.
"Bastards."
