Dinner with Wool

Don't own the Bad Guys

theThe canine dipped his tea bag into the mug before looking at his watch. 5:30 pm. Thirty minutes late. He glanced at the sun slightly setting in the west. "Ugh, come on, Diane. What's taking her so long?" The dining table was all set, but the fox of the hour wasn't there to celebrate. He looked around the old-fashioned diner with its red-and-white themed color scheme. No one quivered in their boots anymore since he and the gang were working with the governor. He did get some weird stares here and there which wouldn't be unusual. But some of them were from women. Must be the white suit, Wolf thought with a small smug look. "Hmm," Wolf groaned. He fumbled his phone out and stabbed his furry fingers at the screen.

Where are u?-W

Running late with a meeting. What about Snake n Webs?-D

On another mission.-W

Be there in a sec. Dealing with Chief-D

Wolf groaned, "Again? Ugh." He rolled his eyes and texted back.

Don't bother. That takes 4ever. Raincheck?-W

U sure?-D

Yeah, go fight the dreaded She-Dragon. Call later.-W

See you later-D

She sent it with a kissing emoji. Wolf smiled an easy grin. He looked back to make sure his tail wasn't wagging.

"Ugh, now what?" Wolf grumbled and leaned back against the red booth seat.

"Is your friend not coming today, Mr. Wolf?" asked the waiter.

"No, I'll just have the usual, Mary," Wolf sighed. Mary nodded and went to the kitchen. Wolf pulled out his phone again and scrolled through his contacts before clicking on his favorite one. "Hey, Snake."

"Wolf! What are you doing? I thought you and Diane had some plans or something?"

"Had to do a raincheck. Hey, you got some time to come down to the diner?"

"No can do buddy," Snake sighed, "I've got my tail tied. Webs and Piranha need my help getting Shark out of a bind."

"What kind of bind?"

"He uhhh... dressed up in the wrong crowd."

Wolf smacked his own forehead. "Again?"

"Yeah, so now we're trying to get him out."

"Is he alright?"

"Yeah, he's fine. Just a little uh... weirded out by all of the ladies."

Wolf straightened up. "Ladies? Whoa whoa, what happened?"

"It's uhhh complicated," Snake hissed. "Anyway, what's up? What happened with you and the gov?"

"Ah, she's having problems with Chief again."

"Again?!" Snake exclaimed. "Wolf, you've got to tell her to fire her or something."

"Sure, you know anyone who will take that job?"

"I mean-"

"That won't try to steal stuff on the side or has a record?"

"Never mind," Snake sighed but still chuckled. "But hey, you never know. I mean, you could be the next Chief."

"Eh, not my style. We already work with Diane to bring other criminals in. I'm more of a... seen but not be seen kind of guy."

"Fine, fine. You're right," Snake groaned. "I just don't get it. Why is Chief Luggins on our tail so much? We've been running undercover missions for how long and she's still suspicious of us?"

"Old habits die hard."

"Yeah, I guess. But why is she giving Foxington lip?"

"She came up with the idea in the first place."

"Yeah, but... aahh I don't care. Foxington is the only person who can put her in her place," Snake hissed. "Got to go, Wolf. Shark just came out with the thong and the case."

"The what?!" Wolf exclaimed.

"I'll explain later. Got to go!" The phone clicked.

Wolf rolled his eyes. "I leave those guys for one mission and they can't work straight." He smiled though. Knowing these guys, they were already miles ahead of whoever was chasing them. Wolf looked at the time.

6:00 pm.

Mary brought Wolf's usual. A double veggie patty burger with onions and mayo. "Thanks, Mary," Wolf sighed.

"Where's Mr. Snake?"

"He's... on another mission," Wolf said. The dark-skinned waiter raised a skeptical eye. "Honestly, I couldn't tell you even if I understood. Something with a briefcase and... thongs?"

"Ah!" Mary said, trying to hide a laugh, "Enough said." She filled up his tea with water and left. Wolf took a big bite out of his food. By now, the diner was settling down to three or four people. By the time Wolf was done with half of his burger, there was just one other person left.

But then, the door opened. Wolf kept eating his burger until his eyes rose up and saw a short person walk up to the counter. "Ma'am. Can I get some water?"

"Sure thing, hon. Coming right up," Mary said. Wolf looked at the person. She wore a black suit with a dark tie. A small golden necklace wrapped around the fluff on her neck as she wore a silver watch on her left hand. Her dress shirt was the only white thing on her.

That and her wool.

Wolf hadn't seen a sheep in a while and this one drank her glass of water.

She seemed calm yet serious. Like the water in front of her would combust at any second. The watch didn't look too expensive. Wolf shook his head. No, he wasn't in that life anymore, but the thoughts came to him so easily that if he wasn't careful, he would let muscle memory take over.

"Hm, maybe Luggins was right," Wolf mumbled to himself, sipping his tea.

"I'm sorry what?" The sheep looked at him. "What did you say?"

"Oh nothing, I was just uhh thinking of a... friend... employee... a person?"

"Luggins. That name sounds familiar," The sheep said. She took her glass and sat across from the wolf. Wolf pushed his empty plate to the side where Mary would later grab it. Their suits contrasted beautifully: the white-suited wolf looking at the black-suited sheep. The smirk on her face churned Wolf's stomach; It was small and light. Every small sweet glimmer in her eyes made Wolf's lips frown.

He had been tricked before by an innocent look.

"Why is the name so familiar?" Wolf asked.

"It reminds me of a... partner I used to know," The sheep replied. She propped her head up with her elbow on the table with a smiling stare that looked both hazy and slightly impish. "Where are my manners? I'm Lillia Lambs. Nice to meet you, Mr..."

"Wolf."

"Wolf?" The lamb's eyes widened a hint. "As in the leader of the Bad Guys?"

"Former Bad Guys," Wolf replied sharply.

"Of course."

"So what's the story, Lambs? You seem like the Police Chief bothers you."

Her frown returned. "Police Chief?"

"Yeah," Wolf reached back and grabbed a newspaper situated near the entrance. He plopped the paper on the table. The headline reading, 'Broken Record?: Chief Luggins cautions public about Bad Guys again.' "Chief Misty Luggins. Not really the greatest character on the block, but she does get the job done... sometimes."

"Definitely not the times you've stolen under her nose," Lambs smirked, making Wolf laugh. She gazed at the picture. "Hmm. A police chief. That's gonna make things difficult."

"What do you mean?" Wolf asked.

The sheep took a moment to smile and say, "Well, I wanted to meet her again."

"I'm sure she takes visitors."

"Hehe, I'm sure she wouldn't. Not for me anyway."

Wolf leaned forward. "You said you knew her. When was that? I thought Luggins was... you know, born a police officer."

"HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!" Lambs laughed, clutching her belly. She slapped her hand down and wiped her eyes. Wolf grabbed his tea to make sure it wouldn't spill over. "Ooh ooohhhh wow. I'm sorry, it's just... wow... Is that what you thought?"

"That's what I get from her anyway."

"Having been a criminal and all?"

"Well, yeah," Wolf said. Softly smiling, Lambs looked right at the window. She stared at the sunset dripping through the tightly clustered skyscrapers and buildings, reflecting off of windows and cars. She shook her head with a small smile.

"Wolf, was it?" Wolf nodded. "You know the saying 'a wolf in sheep's clothing'?"

"Yes, I do," Wolf answered gruffly.

"Well, a sheep is more dangerous to themselves than any beast bigger than it."

"What do you mean?"

She looked straight into his eyes and gave a small smirk. "There are more dangers inside the flock than outside the fold. Besides, don't think that just because I'm a lamb I'm innocent."

"I made that mistake once," Wolf grumbled.

"Oh yeah. The Crimson Paw, right?"

"Yeah... The Crimson Paw," Wolf said. How Diane managed to make Professor Marmalade seem like the Crimson Paw was beyond him. Maybe there was something in the universe actually looking out for them.

"Well, I assure you I'm not trying to trick you."

"Is something someone who is trying to trick me would say," Wolf finished.

"You're skeptical. I like it." Lambs smiled, "I guess you'll just have to trust me that I won't come after you."

"After me?"

"As a target."

Wolf stared, "What exactly do you do for a job?"

"I'm a kind of... merchant."

"Hmm." Wolf and Lambs drank their cups to the end. The lamb stood up and gave some money to Wolf, enough to pay for his food.

"It was nice meeting you, Wolf. I'm sure we'll meet up again," Lambs said.

"Do I want to meet you again?" Wolf asked.

Lambs smirked, "Don't worry, you're not the one I'm looking for so you don't have anything to worry about."

"Who are you looking for?"

Lambs just smiled, "When you get the chance, tell Chief Luggins that Lillia Lambs said hi." With that, the lamb strolled out of the diner. The white-suited wolf sat there with wide eyes and a slightly dropped jaw.

"That was a character," Mary said as she collected the money.

"Yeah, she was." Wolf couldn't form any more words than that. He simply stood up and walked out of the diner. No sign of the lamb anywhere.

Bzzzzz!

Wolf took out his phone. "Hey, what's up?"

"Hey, Wolf. Sorry about tonight. Luggins had a lot of crap to give," said an exasperated fox.

"Hehe, it's alright, gov. Hey, why don't I call you tomorrow? We'll get something to eat for lunch."

"Mm, you think Doris will be okay with that?" Diane's smirk could be heard through the phone. "She didn't like it when you skipped her meal."

"Alright, alright, I'll bring her over. See you later," Wolf smiled. He hung up just to hear the monstrous revving of a motorcycle. A bright silver speed bike zipped passed him. The driver threw out a peace sign before darting through several yellow lights. Wolf could see the faint traces of a black suit similar to the lamb. "So she drives a motorcycle. Hm."

Wolf shook his head awake and started down the road towards the lair.

A/N: Hello everyone, I am very new to this fandom and want to try and break the ice with a few ideas of my own. Sorry if some of these characters seem a little OOC. I'll try my best to correct that over time. Please review if you like what you see and any comments on improvement are helpful. Hope you enjoy it.
