The Wedding Date

Summary: Beth Greene needs to get a date for her sister's wedding in a hurry. She recruits her surly neighbor Daryl Dixon into pretending to be her "boyfriend." The only problem is – it might not all be pretend! Sparks are definitely going to fly.

AN: Hi all! This is my first foray into TWD. I am a big fan of the Beth/Daryl dynamic. Hate the fact that they killed her off! Anyways, for story purposes, Beth is aged up several years, so she and Daryl are closer in age. Both characters may be a bit OOC and this is definitely an AU. Hope you enjoy and please leave some reviews if you like it!

Chapter 1

Beth glared at the invitation in her hand. She couldn't even believe what was happening. Her sister Maggie was getting married to a guy she had just met 6 months ago! What the actual hell?! How did Maggie even think this was a good idea? Beth shook her head and read it again..

Mr and Mrs Hershel Greene request the honour of your presence at the marriage of their daughter Margaret Amanda Greene to Glenn Edward Rhee. The wedding will take place the 20th of June in the year 2021 at the Greene Family home.

And in smaller print – Beth Greene and guest

"Arrrgh!" Beth growled. She couldn't believe that her father was ok with this in any way, shape or form. Hershel Greene was an extremely religious man. No way he was cool with any of this.

Then it hit her. SEX! Maggie and Glenn were getting married so damn quick because they wanted to do the mattress mambo and their father was against sex before marriage. Beth dropped her head and sighed deeply. If their father only knew…

Beth herself had just gotten out of a long term relationship with her ex, Zach. After she caught him cheating on her with one of her old college roommates, she had kicked him to the curb in a hurry. He had begged her forgiveness, asking her for another chance. Beth responded by dumping his clothes and personal items out the window.

Beth's thoughts were disrupted by a loud door slam on the other side of her wall. She rolled her eyes. The asshole's home. Great! Beth had thankfully had very few interactions with her next door neighbor, Daryl Dixon. She knew very little about the man besides his name and the fact that he drove a motorcycle and worked as a mechanic downtown. The only reason she knew about the last one was because she had blown a tire in her car a couple years back and when she took it in to get it fixed, she had been shocked to see him working there.

They lived on the 6th floor in their apartment complex. Each floor had 2 apartments back to back. Beth had moved into her apartment 4 years ago, after she had graduated College. She had wanted to be a good neighbor and so had gone over to introduce herself. He had flung open the door, looked her up and down, and before she could even open her mouth, had said "Don't care what you're selling," and slammed the door in her face.

Since then, Beth had gone out of her way to avoid the man as much as possible. Apparently, the feeling was mutual because Daryl avoided her like she was the plague. The few times their paths had crossed, Daryl remained either extremely quiet or went out of his way to be a royal asshole.

She could hear him banging around next door. What the hell is he doing over there anyways? The level of noise was actually surprising. Daryl was a lot of things, but loud wasn't usually one of them. It was usually his brother who was the louder of the two. Whenever Merle came for a visit, It was always party central. Maybe that's what was going on – his brother was visiting again.

She eyed the invitation again. Beth had only a few weeks to find a date. Problem was, she didn't really hang out with a lot of guys. And the few guys that she did know were either married or gay. There wasn't a single guy in the bunch.

More banging was happening next door, now accompanied by loud, colorful cursing. Beth smirked. Better him then her.

Suddenly, Beth had an idea. It was just crazy enough it might work. Only problem was that he'd have to agree to it first.

Before she lost her nerve, she opened her door and walked next door. Knocking sharply, she heard a muffled banging and then more cursing. "Hold ya fucking horses, M'coming!"

His door swung open, and Beth stepped back, her eyes wide. He had a crossbow in his hands. And by the way he handled it, Daryl definitely knew how to use it. He eyed her with a look of indifference. "Iffin you're here bitchin' bout the noise, you can walk your scrawny ass back to ya place and leave me be," he growled out.

Beth held her ground. She brought the invitation up to his eye level, and said, "I have a proposition that I'd like to discuss with you."
