Chapter Eleven
Getting ready for work the following morning was one of the most awkward and nerverecking times for both Mike and Jimmy..
Mike was the first to get up, usually being the early bird. He had taken that time to heat up a breakfast sandwich for himself. He and Jimmy may have gotten the hang of cooking, but they still lacked the groceries for themselves, so for a while they were sticking with frozen meals.
Mike had tried to forget about the nightmare he had of his friend, and focused on Celia. He was more than excited that he had finally shared a kiss with her for the first time. It was all he wanted to think about.
I'm gonna ask her out again, he thought. Doing something special with her would be great.
All those thoughts went away though, when Jimm walked into the kitchen. He still seemed a bit drowsy, and fought the urge to look at his friend.
Mike knew that Jimmy was trying to avoid him, meaning that they were still fighting. He wondered if Mike had really hurt him yesterday. But he did say I wasn't being a trusting friend, he thought as he watched Jimmy get a box of cereal from the pantry.
Mike decided to follow his friend's idea, and give him the cold shoulder as well. He just didn't know what to say to him, and he was sure Jimmy wouldn't want to listen anyways.
Jimmy felt his heart pounding as he almost felt Mike's big green eye glancing at him every other second. It was nerve wracking, and all he wanted to do was leave the room.
After pouring the cereal and filling the bowl with milk, Jimmy left the kitchen, and sat in the living room. He ate quickly, and without a word, got ready to leave.
Mike was shocked at how fast his friend spent to get ready for the day. It went by so fast, and before the green monster knew it, Jimmy was already out the door, attempting to walk to work alone.
Mike felt very depressed about the situation. He hated not speaking to his friend, and he hated his friend not acknowledging him.
It only got worse after Mike got ready for the day, and went to work. Celia had an appointment, so she was out for the morning, meaning that MIke didn't have the girl to talk to while he waited for his shift to start.
Mike hadn't seen Jimmy the entire hour before it was time to clock in. When he got to the cafeteria, Jimmy was there, setting up the station.
Jimmy noticed his friend's appearance, and inhaled deeply before continuing his setup.
Mike didn't know how he was going to get through the day without talking to Jimmy. Teamwork was required for their position, and there wasn't any way they could do it out without communicating.
However, Mike decided to try hand motions by pointing, shaking and nodding. Jimmy actually agreed to that, but the vibe was heavy, making them both feel their stomach's flip.
He's not gonna believe me until I prove it, Jimmy thought, and I can't talk to him until I prove it. I just can't.
Mike sighed as he served the food to the employees. He hates my guts, he thought, just like before.
As lunch came, Jimmy was apprehensive when his boss Mr Waternoose approached him with a disapproved look on his face. "James, we need to talk."
Mike gasped when he overheard those words. It sounded as if his friend was going to get fired, meaning it could happen to him, too. As he peered over at them, the two stepped away to talk in private.
Mike rubbed his face in frustration, when he suddenly heard the most beautiful voice in the world.
"Hey Mike."
"Celia, hey,'" Mike replied, instantly feeling better by her sight. "How was your appointment?"
"It was fine, just a check up. You seem kinda town. Where's Sully?"
Mike didn't want to tell her that he was upset because he and Jimmy were having a fight, and that they would both get fired. He sighed. "Celia, can I ask you something?"
Celia didn't seem to mind him changing the subject, and gave him a dreamy smile. "What is it, Micheal?"
"You wanna go for a walk in the park today after everyone is done working?"
She giggled. "Of course," she said as she stroked his head gently. "I would like that a lot. I'll meet you outside the building later, okay?"
Mike nodded, feeling very eager. However, it still wasn't enough to lift his spirits about Jimmy. He had to make things right with him.
The little green monster decided to have a talk with Jimmy later, and ask him about what Mr. Waternoose said to him.
However, when that time came, Mike felt a huge pang after he asked him.
Jimmy only replied with, "None of your business."
