December 1912
Jack had disembarked the train and was heading back up to his parents house. He was hoping that for now he wouldn't bump in to any familiar faces. He knew he would venture out soon to see if any of his old friends were about, but for now he just wanted to get home and settled.
"Well I never!" An older lady gasped "is that you, Jack?" Jack sighed to himself a little, immediately recognising the voice, he turned to face the elderly lady "Hi Mary" he smiled "oh my goodness! It really is you!" The woman replied and hugged Jack "what are you doing back?!" "You know, I decided it was time to come home and stop the travelling for a while, face the big world for a change" he shrugged and laughed a little "well it's good to see you!" "and you, how've you been?" Jack asked "oh, fine, I'm still running the inn" she nodded. Jack smiled in response "it's so good to see you Mary… I best get home so I can unpack but I'll be sure to come and see you properly over the next few days, OK?" "You best had" Mary smiled "take care" she nodded and walked away.
Jack sighed, relieved the conversation was over and continued the walk back to his parents house.
He reached the driveway and just stared up at the rather big Victorian house, hundreds of memories of him as a child going through his head. He took a deep breath and headed to the door, lifting up the mat to find the spare key was exactly where it used to be, he picked it up, took another deep breath and unlocked the front door.
He stepped inside to see nothing had changed. The house still felt like home, just with no parents and little more dust. He took in his surroundings and put his bag on the sofa before going round every room in the house.
Once he had unpacked what little stuff he brought, he decided it was time to face the town and the familiar faces in it.
—
He decided to head to the local pub for a drink to calm his nerves. If nothing had changed in the town, that's where he knew he'd find his old friends too, and he was right. "Jack Dawson!" A man around Jack's age shouted across the bar. Jack's face turned in to a huge grin as he saw his childhood best friend - Luke.
—
After a well needed catch up with Luke and his 2 other friends; Max and Ollie, he headed home and settled down for the night.
