Episode 114: Plant it Now... Diglett Later
After the Whirl Cup Competition, and leave Scarlet City, Mew and her friends continue their travels across Red Rock idle, and north to Transit Town to catch the ferry that will get them to Olivine City. The gang continues traveling, until they have to deal with growling stomachs.
Tomo is the first to have his stomach growling, "I need, food."
"Me too," Jen says.
"Yeah, I'm getting hungry," Mew says.
"Me too," Molly says.
Brock agrees, "Me, too. We're almost to Transit Town."
"Almost? Be more specific," Misty questions.
"Yeah, Brock. How close is almost?" Mew asks.
As the group continues to walk on, Jessie spots them from a distance, "This is just too much fun. They're all hungry and tuckered out. Perfect timing, "And turns to James and Meowth, who are digging, "Kick it with those shovels, the heroes are nearly here. Aren't you done?"
James comes out of the hole, "You know, Jessie, any time you'd like to help out, just say the word."
"Yeah, we got plenty of room down here for da tree of us," Meowth adds.
A bit later, the pit is set.
"Ah, nothing like digging a good pitfall," James says.
"It'll be nice for dem to drop in," Meowth says.
"Here they come," Jessie says.
Team Rocket hides in some bushes nearby as our heroes approach before they hear stomachs grumbling.
"Alright, who's stomach was that?" Jessie questions.
"Not mine. Was it you, Meowth?" James answers..
"It was mine," Meowth confesses.
Soon, Mew and the others fall in the pit hole, and Team Rocket is glad.
"What's a big hole doing in the middle of this field? Jen calls out.
"Why am I not surprised to know who dug this hole?" Mew questions.
Misty then says, "It could only be…"
"Team Rocket!" Brock says.
"Totally is!" Tomo says.
"Yeah!" Molly says.
"Well, that was easy," Jessie says.
"It happened so quickly, I barely had time to prepare," James says
"Aside from the hoitful insults, I've never been more proud," Meowth says.
"They're caught, we win," James happily says.
"I propose a toast!" Jessie happily says.
Team Rocket chant, "Here's to us! Now let's go eat! Yum! Yum!"
Suddenly, Team Rocket falls into a pit.
I guess we'll need a raincheck!" James says.
What's going on here?!" Jessie demands.
Meowth then notices a Meowth Stone statue in the hole, "Well, I know dis is da hole we dug cause here's my mark. It's a ting of beauty, don't you tink?"
Meowth, it's a thing of pity if you're asking me," James says
"How many of dese pitfalls do you tink we dug so far?" Meowth questions.
"Who knows?" Jessie replies.
"They must be everywhere," James adds.
"Yes, exactly," Meowth says, "And thousands of years from now, people will discover dese holes and find my mark. I'll be the object of everyone's love and affection. And dey'll be calling da whole region Meowth-land."
"Dream on," Jessie and James say.
As it turns out, the pit trap that Mew and her friends have fallen in is actually next to the pit trap Team Rocket have fallen into.
"I don't get it. If Team Rocket dug the hole they're in, then who could've dug this one?" Mew wonders.
Jessie turns to the boys, "Did you and Meowth possibly dig two holes?"
Don't be ridiculous, Jessie," James says.
Soon, in the hole Mew and the others are in, a Diglett pops up.
"Diglett!" Mew and the others reply surprised.
And then another Diglett comes out. This one has three fine gold whiskers on its head, and it actually looks darker than the normal Diglett.
"Another Diglett!" The others reply in surprise.
In the hole Team Rocket are in…
"Did they, say Diglett?" Jessie questions, sounding uneasy.
"I tink so," Meowth says.
Soon, eighteen Diglett pop up underneath Team Rocket, while in our heroes are, more Diglett show up and make a ladder for them.
"Whoa!" Tomo says, surprised.
"It's a Diglett ladder!" Misty says.
Soon, a young woman peeks over, "I'm sorry! We're the ones who dug this giant hole!"
Seeing the woman with brown hair and green eyes, Brock begins blushing.
The young lady says, "So many people were just coming through our home that we had too."
And Brock quickly climbs up and takes the woman's hand, "There's no need for explanation. Beauty such as yours needs to be protected. Hi, my name is Brock. What's yours?
"Uh, I'm Rita," the young lady, Rita says, and gestures to behind, "That's Sue."
The group looks to see another girl, Sue, who looks similar to Rita. Only she has green hair and blue eyes.
Sue smiles and says, "That's right. Hi, Brock."
And Brock blushes with a big smile, "Wow! Double wow!"
"The Diglett had nothing to do with digging this hole, but sorry anyway," Rita says to the hole where Team Rocket is.
Soon, everyone is out of the holes.
"You said that people were coming through your home. What did you mean by that?" Misty asks.
"I'll be happy to explain, but first I need to ask you a favor," Sue says
"Just name it," Brock quickly says.
"You seem to be expert Pokemon trainers," Sue says.
"Uh, expert?" Misty questions.
Brock says, "Actually, I'm a breeder. But as far as breeders go," And nods his head, "Yes! An expert!
"I guess. Expert is kinda strong for most of us, my friend Misty and I did battle for the Whirl Cup," Mew says.
"Pika!" (Sure did!) Pikachu says.
"Eevee," (And Mew won.) Eevee says.
"And I would say the long hours of training I've put in with my Corsola, gave me the edge," Misty says.
Just then, Rita says, "Right now, we really need your dedication and expertise."
"We didn't know what we were going to do, until you came along," Sue adds.
"We'll even have a banquet in your honor," Rita says.
"A banquet?" Jessie exclaims, and her stomach growls.
Then everyone agrees, "We'll do it!"
The girls cheer, "Hooray! Then let's be on our way!"
Soon, Mew and her friends, and Team Rocket follow Rita, Sue, and the Diglett to their home.
"This is the village we were telling you about. Diglett Village," Rita says.
"It looks nice," Mew says.
What they see is a lovely village, and soon find the banquet.
"And here's the banquet that we promised you," Rita says.
"Well, I guess it's time to dig in," Sue says.
Soon, masked men come dancing in.
Jessie happily says, "Yum! Looks good!"
"Aren't you forgetting something?" James replies.
"What do you mean?" Jessie asks.
"Dining with the enemy," James says.
"Yeah, we'll be feasting with our foes," Meowth says.
"Right, and just look at them," James says.
Team Rocket looks over to see Mew and her friends are having food, and then looks at the food.
And Meowth says, "Well, twoips or no twoips, heroes or no heroes, it's a shame to let all dis food go ta waste."
"We could ignore them," James says.
"Who desoives dis grub more? The illustrious Team Rocket, or dem?" Meowth replies.
"That settles it," Jessie says, and begins chowing down. "This IS yummy! Please pass the salt, I haven't had this in ages." And notices, "Oh no, they're eating it all.
"No, she's not," Meowth says.
Then Team Rocket begins chowing down.
Soon, the feast is finished, and everyone has stuffed stomachs.
"I'm stuffed," Tomo says.
Rita walks over and asks, "Is there anything else I can get you all?"
"A stretcher, and someone to carry me," Jessie answers.
"Would a simple antacid be too much trouble?" James says.
"No, I'll got get one for you," Rita says.
Brock rushes over, "Wait, you're not leaving, are you?"
"It's getting late, and we need to get home. But don't worry, the mayor will take over from here," Rita says.
Just then, the man wearing the green mask says, "Ah, yes. We are most pleased that you've joined us."
"Welcome and thank you so much for being here," The other masked man says.
Soon, everyone removes their mask, and all of them are at an elderly age.
"They're all so old," Jen says.
"Who are those men?" Brock asks.
Rita and Sue say, "We present the mayor and the town council."
Councilman #1 says, "Thank you, Sue and Rita.
"You're welcome. Our pleasure," The girls reply.
Councilman #1 says, "You two are most helpful. We appreciate it."
Councilman #2 then says, "Yes. Now that you all have full stomachs, we would like to ask one simple favor after feeding you so well."
Then the councilman approaches them, "And after that meal we fed you, how can you possibly say no?"
"Of course, we want to help. Just tell us what we can do," Mew says in a panic.
"We, need a rocket," Councilman #1
Jessie and James question in surprise, "A rocket?"
And they suddenly begin their motto.
Jessie:
Then prepare for trouble!
James:
And then make it double!
Jessie:
To protect the world from devastation!
James:
To unite all peoples within our nation!
Jessie:
To denounce the evils of truth and love!
James:
To extend our reach to the stars above!
Jessie:
Jessie.

Team Rocket, blast off at the speed of light!
James:
Surrender now, or prepare to fight, fight, fight!
Meowth:
Meowth, dat's right.
But Councilman #1 says, "Not a rocket."
Goodbye," Team Rocket bluntly replies.
But the Councilman #1 says, "No, we don't need a rocket."
"True. We have no desire to fly into space," Councilman #2 adds.
"Well, what, then?" Jessie asks.
"I must not be making myself clear. I know! Yes! Racket!" Councilman #1 confirms.
Councilman #2 says, "Right! A tennis match!"
But Councilman #1 says, "No, not that."
Councilman #2 questions, "A basket?"
Councilman #1 says, "It's too late for a snack right now, and I fear that we're leaving our friends down another confusing path."
Councilman #2 says, "You're right!
Councilman #1 says, "Robot? Roper?"
Councilman #2 says, "This isn't a rodeo!
Jessie gets annoyed and shouts, "That's enough. You all need serious help!"
"You said help. Help. That's it! A helper!"Councilman #1 says.
"Ah! Is that it?" Brock asks.
Councilman #1 happily says, "Yes! Brilliant! We need a helper."
"And you are perfect for the job," Councilman #2 says.
We are?" Mew, Misty, Molly, and Jen reply confused.
Brock and Tomo then ask, "Help with what?"
Just then, someone shouts, "Hold on!"
Everyone looks out and sees a masked man riding on a Dodrio.
The man says, "Don't listen to those old fools! They'll just talk you in circles until you're as confused as they are!"
Everyone rushes outside.
"Who are you?" Mew demands.
"We're a band of Diglett thieves known as the Band of Diglett Thieves!" The man says.
Soon, more of the thieves appear on Dodrio as Team Rocket comes out.
"Now there's an original name," Jessie says.
The masked man says, "We used to be known by a much more creative name, but those old fogies in there just kept getting confused."
"That makes sense," Misty says.
Then the man says, "See those Diglett there are your feet? After they've evolved into Dugtrio, they become the world's greatest earth movers. So we pay those old codgers a little visit once a year to steal them for ourselves!"
"Pika! Pika! Pika!" (You're not getting these Diglett!) Pikachu says.
And Eevee says, "Eevee Eevee Eevee!" (Yeah, that's just Pokemon abduction!)
"This year's crop of Diglett seem plump and healthy. We'll be back for them tomorrow. Farewell!" The head thief says.
The thieves ride off.
"Thieves that book in advance?" Brock questions.
"That's very, considerate," Misty says.
"That's mean," Molly says.
"Diglett," (I agree.) The Dark Brown Diglett says.
Back inside….
Councilman #1 explains, "For many years, we have coexisted happily with the many Diglett in our area as they helped us to cultivate our fields."
Then Councilman #2 says, "We would like to continue to raise our crops and stay in our homes."
Councilman #1 adds, "But it's been hard, now that our children have left our village for the bright lights and excitement of the city."
Councilman #2 then says, "The only young ones we ever see are Sue and Rita, and the Band of Diglett Thieves."
Councilman #1 says, "We dearly love Sue and Rita, but those thieves are a big problem. By stealing all of our strongest and healthiest Diglett every year, we are not able to grow enough food for our village."
"How were you able to make that giant feast for us?" Mew asks.
That one might possibly be our last," Councilman #2 says.
"If you won't help us, we have no other choice but to consider you thankless and insensitive," Councilman #1 says
"I'm sorry, but did he just say thankless and insensitive?! I have never heard anything so insulting in all of my life!" James says, offended.
"Really, James? I hold that one a million times," Meowth says.
"Not true," Jessie says, "We may have our, selfish moments, but I'd like to think that we would never ignore someone in need who had just given us a banquet."
"But sometimes we like to eat and run," Meowth says.
Jessie punches Meowth on the head, "Quiet."
And then James says, "This red rose symbolizes the red blood that runs through all of us! It knows not of good or evil. It is true I am a member of Team Rocket, but I am also a Pokemon trainer with a burning desire to help my fellow man! I will rise to the call of the rose within my heart and do whatever is needed of me! Or at least give it my best shot."
"Do you mean it? You're actually going to help some old people just because they fed you?" Misty asks.
"Exactamundo!" James says.
"Rita and Sue happily say, "Oh, that's great! Thank you!"
Then Brock stands up, "And I vow to protect you all, from those...thieves!"
"I'll help, too!" Mew says.
"So will I!" Misty says.
"Me too," Tomo says.
"We'll help," Jen says.
"I agree, we'll help," Molly says.
The Pokemon agree.
James turns to his teammates, "Are you with me?!"
You know I am!" Jessie says.
Jessie and James chant, "Alright!"
As Jessie and James talk, Meowth sits, baffled, before just rolling with it.
Later, James soon has the whole area mapped out.
James explains, "This is our present location, and here is our enemy. The Band of Diglett Thieves numbers more than fifty, according to the Sky Patrol from their recon flight, while at last count, our ranks consist of twenty senior citizens, three members of Team Rocket and six twerps for a total of twenty nine."
"It seems obvious that we shouldn't try to face them directly. Without those three, we don't stand much of a chance for an even fight," Brock says.
"Check, and that is why tonight, we must put aside our differences and commence Operation: No-No, Dodrio!" James says.
"That sounds dangerous," Misty says, worried.
"It is, but only for that group of brave souls that have been selected for this mission. You lot and the Diglett, and we thank you very much for your courage!" James says to Mew and the others.
"Yes, sir," Brock says.
Then Jessie asks, "When was it that those twerps were chosen for this mission?"
"They have more experience and it was when this mission became scary! Anyway, you'll sneak up and release the enemy's main mode of transport, Dodrio," James says.
"Yes, sir!" Mew, Tomo, and Jen say.
"I may feel bad for those Dodrio, but it looks like we have no other choice, sir," Misty says.
"Correct, we have no other choice if we all wish for those Diglett to live in this village another day," James says.
Everyone salutes, "Good luck!"
Even the Dark Diglett agrees.
Soon, Mew and the others of her group, even the Dark Diglett.
Molly turns to the Diglett, "Thank you coming along with us."
"Diglett," (You're welcome.) The Dark Brown Diglett says.
It's really cute, and it actually has hair," Mew says, and takes out her Pokedex.
Dexter says, "Diglett, the Mole Pokemon. Alolan Form. A Ground and Steel Type. Its three hairs change shape depending on Diglett's mood. They're a useful communication tool among these Pokémon."
"Cool. So you're also a Steel Type," Molly says.
The Alolan Diglett smiles and nods.
Meanwhile, Team Rocket watches from a fair.
": I hate to say it, but I almost feel bad about sending those twerps while we relax," James says.
"No relaxing!" James says, "We'll be busy digging pitfall after pitfall around the town's perimeter. We will enlist every single Diglett in this village and create an impenetrable pitfall defense!"
Soon, all the elderly and Diglet start digging.
"Wow. For a group of old duffers, they've really got lots of energy," Jessie says.
But the old lady says, ""Ah. Those young'uns are in their prime. I'm a hundred and twenty."
Jessie turns to the lady, "No! That's over ten times my age!"
"Now where did you loin dat math?" Meowth asks.
"Get back in the hole!" Jessie says.
"Gee, I wonder how the troops are faring," James replies.
Meanwhile, Mew and the others are sneaking to enemy lines.
Sparkle says, "Pika." (All clear.)
Mew and the others race through the streets, but soon hide when they spot the leader of the Band of Diglett Thieves.
"That guy must be their ring leader," Brock says.
"Yeah, and I betcha he must be standing guard over the Dodrio pen," Mew suspects.
Just then, Pikachu and Eevee spot something and alert the others.
Hey, what is it, guys?" Mew asks.
Mew looks and sees Sue talking to the leader of the thieves.
Mew peeks over and is surprised to see, "Hey, it's Sue!"
"Where?" Tomo asks, surprised.
The gang soon looks to see Sue talking with the leader.
"Wow. What could she be doing with these guys?" Brock asks.
"Beats me," Jen says.
"Weird," Misty says.
Suddenly, someone calls out, "Hey, you guys!"
Everyone looks to see Rita behind them.
"What are you doing?" Rita asks, shocked.
"It's Rita," Misty says.
Soon, the group tries to take their leave.
Who goes there?!" The leader says, stopping the group, "Hold it!"
Just then, Rita walks up from behind, "Oh! Mr. Mayor. These are the helpers, from before."
"Oh, I see. Sorry," The mayor says, and removes his helmet, "It's so hard to see with that darn helmet on my head."
"You're the, mayor?" Mew asks.
Soon, Diglett start popping up as the mayor explains himself.
"Oh, yes. I see. Terribly sorry to have startled you," The mayor says.
Then turns to the townsfolk, "Okay, guys. This time we'll do it without the Dodrio, alright?"
The townsfolk agree.
"This is really weird," Jen says.
"Let me see if I have this straight. All of you are actually the children of those old people?" Brock asks.
"And grandkids!" Rita and Sue reply.
"Then, why would you steal their Diglett?" Misty asks.
"It's simple," The Mayor says.
"Well, tell us," Molly says.
Then the Mayor explains, "There was a time when all of this land was nothing but a wasteland inhabited by a great many Diglett. Because of the difficult lives our parents were forced to lead, they befriended the Diglett in order to get help cultivating their fields. And in time, their labors were rewarded. Their fields overflowed with a bountiful harvest and stories of their success were told all over the Whirl Islands. Once Diglett evolve into Dugtrio, they can even change the desert from brown to green. It's thank to their work that this has become such a beautiful place. Now to show gratitude to our mothers and fathers, we built them a retirement home where they can live in comfort and peace."
Soon, Mew and the others are with the mayor and Rita and Sue standing before the very place.
"It has every possible luxury and amenity they could ever want or need. It compares with any four star hotel in the world," The mayor says.
": Wow. I'd love to stay there," Misty says.
"Oh, well," The mayor says, "Those old men and women wouldn't have any of it."
"Huh? I wonder why," Molly replies.
Then the Mayor explains, "They said they would rather live the rest of their lives, continuing to work together with the Diglett as they plow the land and protect their village."
"Amazing," Brock says.
Then the mayor says, "It seems long ago there were many Diglett thieves who caused them all sorts of problems. They were constantly on guard and working to keep those thieves away. They think that defense is the key to their longevity."
"So, now, you're the thieves?" Tomo asks.
"Yes, the Diglett thieves disappeared quite a long time ago," The mayor says, "So, we just decided to take over invading the village every once in a while to help keep those old folks in tip-top shape. We're very careful, of course, that no one is ever hurt."
"I wish you would've told us about this a little sooner," Brock says.
But then Sue says, "But think about how our grandparents would feel if they knew."
"This has become a way of life for them, protecting their homes and defending their land," Reta says.
Then the Alolan Diglett says, "Diglett Diglett Diglett." (And it makes them happy to live with us. And it makes us happy too."
"I think I get it," Mew says.
The Pokemon agree.
"But it'll only work if they believe it. Your Pikachu should give it everything it's got. We have made very sure that no one will get hurt," The mayor says.
"But, you know. Pikachu's Thunderbolt attack is really strong," Mew says.
"Let's try," The mayor says, and puts on his helmet.
"Are you sure?" Mew asks
"Give me your best shot," The Mayor says.
"Uh," Mew replies, unsure.
"Pika." (I don't...) Pikachu says, unsure.
"Do it," The mayor urges.
"Okay, then," Mew says, and calls out the attack, "Pikachu, Thunderbolt!"
Pikachu launches the attack, it strikes the helmet and veers into different directions before Pikachu lands.
The mayor removes the mask, "You see? Shock proof." Then he pounds on the chest of the armor, "And it's blast proof. So you don't have to worry about a thing."
"Great!" Everyone says.
Then Mew says, "We'll do our best."
"Pikachu!" (We sure will!) Pikachu says.
The next morning, James is seen looking out over the horizon when he spots something in the distance, the thieves…
"They're not riding on Dodrio! Our battle plan worked!" James says.
"Dose guys pulled it off," Meowth says.
Then Jessie turns to the elderly, "Alright! Prepare for battle!"
The thieves charge, but two land in a pit, followed by two more as James watches on.
James cheers, "Yes! The traps are working like a charm!" (Soon, the other side charges in.
"Alright, Arbok, let's go!" Jessie says and about to throw her Pokeball.
But Wobbuffet appears, "Wobbu!" (HOOOOLD IT!)
Thanks to Wobbuffet's interference, the thieves plow right over both it and Jessie before the combat begins.
Up on the perch…
James spots something, "Look!" And spots someone, "It's the twerp troops!"
"Awesome! It's working!" Misty says.
"This is great! Let's get in the act, too," Mew says.
Mew then brings out her Pokeball, "Cyndaquil, I choose you!"
Cyndaquill is released and fires a Flamethrower at a thief, but it gets doused by a water sprayer while Misty's Poliwhirl is called out.
Misty calls out, "Poliwhirl, Water Gun!"
Poliwhirl fires the attack but the targeted thieves bring out shields.
Alolan Diglett turns to Molly, "Dig Diglett Dig Diglett." (Molly, you and I can battle together.)
Understanding the Pokemon, Mew says, "Molly, Diglett wants you to battle with him."
"Really Diglett?" Molly asks.
Alolan Diglett replies with a nod, "Diglett," (Yeah.)
Mew then shows Molly the Pokedex.
Molly nods, "Alright then…" and calls out, "Diglett, use Sucker Punch!"
And with that, Alolan Diglett gives the thieves a Sucker Punch and sends them flying.
"Yay!" Molly cheers.
Soon, the rest of the Diglett take care of most of the thieves, causing the elders to celebrate and chase off the remaining thieves.
Brock then calls out, "Go, Crobat! Super Sonic!"
"Skwovet, Bullet Seed!" Tomo calls out.
"Amaura, Aurora Beam!" Jen calls out.
All the Pokemon fire the attack and drive the thieves away. As for Crobat's Super Sonic, the leader puts on headphones to block the sound. The two councilmen however.
Councilman #1 notices it, "Ah! Hear that?"
"I always love that sound," Councilman #2 says.
Councilman #1 happily says, "I! Feel! Great!"
Councilman #2 cheers, "Yahooey!"
"Now that's a sound we love!" The two happily say.
Some of the other elders and some of the thieves fall over in disbelief as the two start dancing.
"What? Old bats?" Misty says.
Mew giggles, "That's a good one.
Soon, the flag of truce is shown to be flying.
"A white flag?" Mew asks.
The mayor says over the megaphone, "Though it grieves me to say it, we surrender. But make no mistake, we'll be back. And next time, we will capture all of your village's Diglett! Mark my words!"
Soon, a Diglett pops in on a thief in one of the holes.
"Ah," The man replies and pets the Diglett, "Give my loves to gramps and grandma, would ya?"
"Farewell!" The mayor says.
But then, Jessie's voice calls out, "Hold your Horsea!"
Everyone looks up and sees Team Rocket in their balloon.
"You're not going anywhere!" James says.
"We gotta make sure yous creeps never bother dose nice old folks again!" Meowth says.
"Let's go!" Jessie and James call out.
Jessie and James soon toss and drop bombs everywhere.
"Hey, wait a minute! Stop!" Mew calls out.
But Misty says, "Cool it, Mew. Be careful or you'll ruin the whole thing."
"I know you're right, Misty, but, I gotta do something!" Mew says.
However, the Mayor says, "Don't worry, Mew, we can care of ourselves."
"Yeah, but…" Mew says, worried.
Misty asks, "What about the Diglett?"
The Diglett start ducking for cover from the explosion.
"They're in trouble!" Brock says.
"Well, here goes nothing," Mew says.
Then calls out, "Hey! Team Rocket!"
Team Rocket hears a voice.
"Who said that?" Jessie asks.
Team Rocket looks down and sees the origin of the voice
"Da twoip," Meowth says.
"What's he staring at?" James asks.
Mew calls out," Sorry, we have to do this. Pikachu, Eevee, Thunderbolt!"
Pikachu and Eevee launch the attack and fire at Team Rocket as they exclaim, "What?!"
Soon, Pikachu and Eevee's attack cause the rest of the bombs to explode.
"Even when we're good, it turns out bad!" Jessie cries out
"Maybe da bombs were too far after all!" Meowth says.
"Looks like Team Rocket's blasting off again!" Team Rocket cries out.
A little later…
Councilman #1 says, "I feel sorry for those three cream pockets."
"I'm sure they'd appreciate the nickname," Brock says.
"Guess they dug a hole…" Mew says
"They couldn't climb out of," Misty adds.
Soon, Mew and her friends begin laughing.
Councilman #1 then says, "In this world, all sorts of crazy things happened all of the time.
